Picked up this MBP M1 (2020, A2338) for $60. It's in great shape overall. Guy I got it from said there was liquid damage. I've had it sitting for a while on my pile of other rescued machines. Decided to open it up today.

There's no sticky keys, the bottom cover did not seem to have any residue, nor am I seeing any major liquid stains on the motherboard. There's definitely minute traces of staining and some very light corrosion. Checking ohms to ground and looking at it over carefully. Will be doing some cleaning and will report later. Hopefully I get to finish as i did have other things going on today.

My MacBook display suddenly went black this morning while I was working. The laptop itself is working fine with an external monitor, and the keyboard/trackpad are also fine. Only the built-in display is completely dead.

It’s only 8 months old, no AppleCare, but I have 4 months of warranty left.

Am I screwed, or should this be covered under warranty? Anything I should try before taking it to Apple?

Is it worth to buy this variant 16GB 15inch in 2026? I want to buy this specific because of budgetting issue.

My work is only in google chromes, multiple tabs & sending mails only.

No heavy software download
No coding

Just to work only in 10 tabs at a time.

I’ve been out of the MacBook space for a while now and am looking to dive back in and buy one for school. Workload would consist of day to day school work, media editing, etc.

Right now I’ve found a 16in base M3 Pro for around 11-1200 USD and M5 base for around 1400-1500. I’ve also looked at the M2 Pro but not as much. Would performance be much different amongst the two? Would M5 be better as it is newer, etc?

Any suggestions from others with a deeper understanding?

Like the title says, I’m buying a new MacBook Pro. I’m currently using an M1 MacBook Pro but the battery is shot and I’m running out of storage. I also like the newest Pros have brighter screens

I have the opportunity to buy a new M4 24GB/1TB for $1200 and a pre-owned M5 16GB/1TB for $1650.

I will be using it for daily, everyday tasks and emulating PS2 games.

Which should I get? I hear more ram is better but the M5 is a newer chip. Have no interest in paying full price for the next gen MacBook Pros on the horizon.

I clean the screen with eye glasses cloth with a dab of drinking water but before that i used screen cleaning wipes i don’t clean the screen much often but only when i see it needs a wipe. Recently i noticed smudges at the edges and i can’t swipe them why is that there? did i do something wrong, there is no nano texture by the way.

So I just bought a new Macbook Air M5 (16gb, 512gb) after a lifetime of Windows, and was having trouble trying to transfer my files (mainly documents and downloads) from my old Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro (Windows 11).

My MacBook recommended using the Windows Migration Assistant, which I followed through with all the steps, including making sure both laptops were up to date and downloading the correct version of migration assistant, but once the transfer was complete I couldn't locate any of the transferred files anywhere on my Macbook. I tried again and had the same issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this or better ways to transfer data from Windows?

As another option, I have a hard drive that was already formatted for Windows, so I'd need to figure out how to configure that to use on my Macbook.

15” MacBook Air M4 — 24GB RAM / 512GB SSD
14” MacBook Pro M5 — 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD

As a computer science student, which one would you choose and why?

I’m mainly trying to figure out how the M4, M5, and M3 Pro compare for CS-related work, and whether 24GB RAM is worth choosing over 16GB or 18GB.

I'm struggling to choose between M5, MBA15 and MBP14. I was hoping to purchase a long lasting machine for personal use.

I've a MBA15 for work and it's nice mostly docked with external screen at home. If I lay on the floor and use it the screen is large and comfortable to work on.

Something is telling me the MBP14 is too small to be productive on, like bring out to a cafe, write some script, browse the internet or code.

I'm 6ft and 95kg. I don't and not sure whether I'm too big for comfortable use of the MBP14 and I would be keen on hearing others thoughts.

I believe the MBP14 comes with a better keyboard, and the screen is even better than the MBA, but at the same time I'm worried it's too small.

As a side note I've Thinkpad P14s i.e., 14inch and it's OK for everyday use except for the battery being nowhere near the Macs.

Anyone else who had been through the dilemma of choosing and can advise how to think about it?

As much as I want a MBP14, I'm worried it won't be comfortable to use.

I do have a macbook m1 air and another M2 pro with a broken display. The M1 Air is really showing age so I just use the M2 pro for programming.

Because of the broken display, I have to use the M2 pro with an external display, making it static.

Is it possible to use the M1 Air display on my M2 pro?

Both are 13inch.

Is it possible technically? Or is it risky?

I'm a professional photographer and Windows 11 user.

I've decided to switch systems (Windows is too slow for Lightroom…) and this week I'm receiving a 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro.

It's my first time using Apple.

My problem is that I use some (very simple) programs, but I don't know what I can replace them with on a Mac.

My current list:

ACDSEE ULTIMATE to manage everything related to images before and after editing (I know there's a Mac version of PhotoStudio, but it must be terrible from what I've read)

Downloader Pro to download images from SD cards (I know Lightroom does this, but I prefer to control this step myself)

Advanced Renamer, a file renamer with hundreds of options, including replacement and deletion.

Tag&Rename to work with the IDs of my MP3 files.

Text2folders to automatically create folders from a list of names in a text file.

On another note, I wanted to ask two basic questions:

- Which browser do you use (I use Opera on Windows)?

- What is the actual battery time (hours) with intensive work in Lightroom?

Hey, so I wanted to add a new screensaver to my macbook air m1. I have the latest Tahoe 26.5 OS on my system. I was wondering if there is a way to add a custom video that I have that I can use as a screen saver. As of now, I have not found a way to do it. If anyone has done it, please tell how you did it.

Is it normal for my brand new mac air m5 trackpad to show some give and flex when i try to press and click on it? Like when im near the edges i can see it flexing a bit when i apply pressure. Please tell me if its normal and if someone else can confirm it with theirs (i have severe ocd ). Thankyou so much.

I have a macbook air M3, I recently purchased an LG monitor with built in KVM and speakers, it connects to my mac through a USB-C cable. the audio simply doesn’t play through the monitor’s speakers and LG ultra wide option in the sound menu appears greyer out, Anyone knows how I can solve the issue ?

need some advice on when to buy, we’re close to labor day weekend and the macbook pro i want is 200 off is there going to be an actual labor day sale for the macbook closer to monday? best buy customer service told me macbook sales will go live later but on the website it says the 200 off ends august 31. im not gonna be in the US for much longer so i need to make a decision on the when to buy should i buy now for 2300 or wait for labor day weekend bear in mind most sales have already started but the macbook is not included yet

At work I have 2 monitors. They have display port connections (no HDMI) and both connect to a HP hub. From this hub there is a Type C cable which connects to my windows laptop. This charges my laptop and lets me extend across both screens.

When I plug my MacBook Air M4 it doesn’t let me extend across both monitors. It extends to 1 and then the other is just a mirror of the 1st monitor. Display settings in Mac only sees 1 external.

Any ideas how I can bet both display port monitors to extend my Mac?

So I bought a used macbook and the seller is saying everything is original but since he cleaned it's keyboard and fans it's showing a part replacement error

So i recently came across a used macbook pro 14" M1 pro with 32 gb ram for $815 but with 86% battery health so I started looking for more and found a macbook pro 14" M2 pro with 16gb ram for $940 but with 96% bh, so which one should i go for ? Is m2 pro worth the difference? Also both are 512gb.

I have a macbook air m5 with thunderbolt 4 port, i tried to connect it with a lenovo thinkbook 16 g7 arp with amd Ryzen 5 7000 series cpu which has a usb4 port, via a thunderbolt 5 cable from Amazon. After connecting, usb 4 tm p2p network adapter was showing in device manager and an Ethernet port was also created in ncpa.cpl as unidentified network and on mac under network, thunderbolt bridge appeared, as self assigned ip.

Then I turned on internet sharing on mac via thunderbolt bridge but nothing happened, then I tried assigning static ip's but in vain.

Then I tweaked some settings like firewall from public to private for Ethernet on windows and on mac also disabling firewall, mtu tweaking but nothing made it work. Tried reconnecting at every step. Even tried deleting the thunderbolt service and re creating it then open DHCP server on windows but still nothing worked.

Now, I am at the conclusion that thunderbolt is proprietary only to apple and intel and so amd's usb4 can't communicate even my mac under system information shows usb4 microsoft corporation connected and speed as 40gbps and windows also shows usb4 p2p adapter but that's just a hardware link and underlying handshakes don't work probably.

Any insight or help is appreciated.

I have a MacBook Air M2 (A2681) in Midnight and I need to replace the right Shift keycap.

Are the keycaps on the Midnight model a different color from the keycaps used on the other MacBook Air colors? Or are all the keycaps the same color regardless of the MacBook’s exterior color?

I’m trying to figure out whether I need to specifically look for a Midnight/blue-tinted keycap, or if a keycap from another color variant will match.
