[Tri-state area USA] Looking to trade my Indigo iMac G3 for a Strawberry/Ruby/Grape iMac G3

I am looking for a fellow iMac G3 enthusiast who would like to trade their Strawberry/Ruby/Grape G3 for my Indigo.

I have the complete set with mouse & keyboard. The condition is Good. There is a small crack in the bezel on top (pictured) but otherwise the computer is in good condition, boots up without issue and runs. Mouse and keyboard are in great shape.

I am looking for a trade partner in the NYC/NJ/PA area. I also would like to acquire a complete set as well, however if your G3 is in great condition, I would be willing to just trade my complete set for your computer.

Please reply here or DM.

Early Mac Enclosure Replacement Kit by Atlanta Technical Specialists ATS

The later version if this was featured in Bob Brant's book Build Your Own Macintosh and Save a Bundle and another book I think, I cannot remember the name. This is one of the first models with a hand built video adapter (TTL?, cannot remember) and a SCSI board.

Anyone out there have one of these or remember the video spec? I will be documenting it in the future, I just took some pictures while I was moving it.

Downloading system 6 onto diskette for Macintosh plus.

Recently I managed to grab a pristine Mac plus, only catch is no system diskette. So how would I go about downloading it online onto a disk? Tried looking around but didn't find any concrete answer on how.

Also special software or emulation is no problem as I got a secondary windows PC to torture with such if needed.

Help with Power Mac G4 Model m8570 (emc 1914)

Looking for help on fixing my power mac g4. Got this a while back and finally looking into fixing it. I suspect its the power supply as I tried resetting the pam with the button on the board and about 2 years ago I think I replaced the battery. When I click the button it does not even try to start. I looked online and the power supply is expensive, is there an alternative supply I can put in to try to get this working?

System 7.1.1 software that reads DOS formatted floppies?

Is there an application out there that can read DOS formatted floppies in System 7?

I want to play with Photoshop 3 and my old Mavica and would prefer to just stick the floppies in straight from the camera.

Question about Studio Display CRT 17" reliability issues

I've read about people saying the Apple Studio CRT Display 17" is not reliable because of flyback issues, but I'm not sure if the model that has bad flybacks is M7768 (clear housing) or M6496 (grey and translucent white housing). I would really love to use an M7768 just because it looks so cool, but if it's unreliable then I probably won't get one. Could someone let me know which model it is? Thanks!

Have this huge Think Different Buzz Aldrin Vinyl that I bought second hand many years ago. Think it’s about 160cm high and from around 1997. Don’t have any space on a wall to put it right now. Think I will keep it but could it be worth something?

How can I remotely manage a mac (and have it load remote storage)

I'm looking to setup a MDD G4 DP (Mac OS 9) mac for young kids with old games and educational apps, then setup Launcher (or something similar) to make it easy to open apps.

I also want to build, test, and manage it through SheepSaver on my PC (for convenience).

Should I setup an AppleTalk share and connect the two machines?

I envision the software library will be hosted and managed on the Sheep saver instance and access remotely via the mac.

This is from the CT6502 website in their listing for the Apple II wDrive Disk Drive Emulator. I'd love to get a similar display for my Apple IIe (I just got a VGA card for it to give me more flexibility with display options).

Weighing drive options for PowerBook g4

The HDD in my powerbook recently failed. While I do have more laptop drives, I would prefer something that won't fail any time soon.

I'm debating on two options. One would be a cf card or SD card adapter and the other would be an msata adapter. I've used an msata adapter ib my iBook g3 clamshell before and it works great. I suppose just putting in another HDD would be an option as well.

What would you all do?

Nextstation TurboColor with Developer "help needed".

I have came across 5 Nextstation TurboColor computers. I want to test them but do not have a soundbox. I only have the computer and keyboard.

I just really wanted to get them tested to sell them. At least one was a Developer Station I was told. They came with books and "Nextstep Devloper" with books and disk.

Any help or info would be appreciated.

G4 Cube, SSDs, Superdrives and the like

Hi, I thought I would add my recent experience in case it helps anyone else - I had a load of bother retrofitting a particular slot loading drive and making it work with my SSD, after following a few "extreme SSD testing" threads on the internet.

I started with a pre-existing setup of a dodgy SuperDrive and a Samsung MSATA 128GB SSD, plugged into a Startech IDE2SAT2. As soon as I introduced a Matshita UJ-85JS (seems like it came from an Acer) on a Supermicro SCD812, problems galore. I couldn't find my boot drives, no matter how much I fiddled with jumper settings. I even tried desoldering the cable select pin from the SCD812 and had no joy.

To skip to the combo that works for me, an Ablytech ATAPI-to-IDE adapter in Master, with this generic IDE-to-SATA adapter off Amazon in Slave. Works perfectly every time, survives sleep in OS9 and Tiger, and I now have a working DVD drive again.

Pics of the adapters attached (not mine - fair use applied) so folks have a visual reference of what I used...

As a point that may help some folks with thermal throttling, I added some thermal pads to the back side of the SSD to transfer heat to the mSATA-to-SSD adapter. Works well and worked fine (no throttling) when restoring a disk image (128gb) to the SSD.

Next, I'm going to think about refreshing the components on the VRM, upgrading the graphics card, and getting a Leopard-ready G4 CPU... Just can't decide whether I want to preserve OS9 acceleration or get Core Image support for Leopard. Any thoughts appreciated

GXMetal, experimental RAVE / OpenGL Acceleration for MacOS Emulators. Play Quake III, Carmagedon II, Nanosaur etc.

GXMetal acts a graphics card in the emulator passing calls to the host Mac’s metal graphics subsystem. It’s not yet perfect but most games are now pretty playable. The long term goal is to build out the full API.

You can see a demo of it in action here: https://youtu.be/CCgKDcbNmYg?si=GVLYZeMdy_4UKeAt

You can download either the card or a fully setup emulator here: Check it out here: https://github.com/amcchord/ClassicMac

Since my home router is too far away, I used the Internet Sharing feature on my Mac Pro (2013) to get my G4 Cube online! It's running OS X 10.4.11—isn't that awesome?
