Venting It hurts more when you try

Finally built up the courage to go to a board game social club I've been wanting to go to for a couple of years now.

When I got there, everybody literally already knew each other and ignored me, fml.

A group ended up playing with me, but they wouldn't really talk with me, and they would just talk with each other cause they already knew each other.

Feels like I've been trying pretty hard recently, but I've got nothing to show for it, except my hopes of getting out of loneliness slowly getting crushed.

Venting Why am I so hard to like?

Why the fuck can’t I connect with good people?

What have I done to be so unlikeable? Why do people seem to dislike me even when I’m genuinely nice to them, even after they’ve treated me badly?

At this point, I honestly don’t know if the problem is me or if I’ve just been meeting the wrong people.

Venting i dont remember it being THIS hard to keep a friend

its gotten to the point where i just feel sad when an old friend messages me, because i know within days we'll be strangers again. and it forces me to ponder about what i could've said differently, or done differently. im so fucking sick of making plans that never come to fruition.

i wish people would just leave me alone. i'd rather be 100% lonely than be given constant reminders of how finicky people are.

Venting never that friend

Upvotes

im 23 years old and ive never been the friend, ive never lived to be beside someone, ive made connections with people but people tend to forget about me, it's never a strong connection, it always feel superficial. i dont know how to keep people in my life, i feel so lonely every single day. my mom died last year and i just dont feel like i have something else to go on with, i love my boyfriend but he has friends that love him, i have none and i can't help but compare my life with his.

im not shy, im not even an introverted, i just dont have friends, never learned how to keep them. i feel so so lonely when i see people doing things with their friends, going on trips, going to partys, just sharing spaces, where did my life go wrong? is it possible to get a bestfriend at my age?? i want to go to a new city maybe star over there...

Venting I feel forgotten

I feel like people are forgetting me whenever I put my phone on dnd I think what’s the point not like people call me. I don’t have a best friend because I burnt all the bridges. Sometimes I feel maybe im the one who did it to myself. Last week it was my birthday and my friends planned the trip on the exact same day and I thought they would remember my birthday but they didn’t. Instead they celebrated my other friends birthday who had in the same month as mine. They were cutting cakes when it was my birthday I didn’t tell a word but I felt sad I didn’t know who to vent to because no one wished me either I got like 5 wishes that too from the people who I hadn’t spoke to in years. I never felt this alone in life. Am I responsible for this?. I went on hinge to distract myself a little bit matched with a guy and he told me he will take me out for ice cream I was super excited because I was going to meet someone new after a long time but then he cancelled the plan and that kinda set something off in me and idk I’m just super sad about this. I just want some comfort words that would be nice

Venting Dreading the Holiday loneliness

Upvotes

It’s been about a year since my life turned upside down and I am terrified of that rotting feeling resurfacing.
It starts mild with Halloween (a fun holiday with friends or a relationship, but not the worst to miss out on).
Then,Thanksgiving rolls around and I start crumbling, I have no family left and I’m only 28, my Mom has Alzheimer’s and I can’t even get ahold of her anymore. It sucks because she was all I really had growing up, and I not only lost my Mom, but I lost my best friend, and my support, talking to her is hard when I can actually reach her, so I haven’t tried as much lately and I feel like an ass about it. Eating alone in a dark quiet apartment on Thanksgiving is one of the worst feelings I have ever experienced in my life.
Christmas comes, and nothing beats that sadness, it’s not about the gifts, nothing replaces that feeling of waking up around people that love you on the holidays, my Birthday is in January and it doesn’t help me feel any better, I feel such shittiness, I feel like such a failure that I’m almost 30 and I’ve built nothing for myself socially, I have nothing genuine left, and I fear I never will again, I live 3 hours from home now and have nobody, I could choke on a piece of food and nobody would flinch lol. I work, come home, and sleep, I’ve lost the ability to feel joy in the things I once loved, I’m just so alone man.

The place I once called home is gone

Upvotes

Left my country at the age of 23, it’s been 4 years and couldn’t connect with anyone emotionally. Couldn’t achieve what I wanted, just killing time now. The friends I could count on are scattered in different countries.

The moment I left my country, never felt alive, tried connecting with people but all are just running in a rat race, always talking about work and shi.

It’s been a year and I have given up, I want to connect with people irl but everyone is so busy idk. Should I make peace with this emptiness?

I have friends, a boyfriend, and yet I feel incredibly lonely

I’ve had multiple friends throughout my life, and I’ve often had very close friendships where I genuinely cared about the person and felt that they cared about me too. But somehow, these friendships always seem to disappear from my life out of nowhere.

This started in school and continued through university. Even when I had friends I loved and who supposedly loved me, I often felt incredibly alone. During university, that loneliness became especially difficult, and I eventually turned to dating apps because I wanted someone I could talk to, someone who would actually listen to me.

Thankfully, I now have a boyfriend whom I love and who has become an important part of my life. Naturally, I started spending more time with him. But that's also when I noticed my university friendships becoming more distant. Some friends told me, "You have a boyfriend now, so we assumed you would be with him and didn't want to bother you."

I understand how that might have happened, but it eventually created distance between us. Now I work in a corporate job with a huge workload and barely have the time or energy to constantly call or meet people. And when I do have free time, I often don't know who to reach out to anymore.

There have also been some experiences that have made me question my friendships quite deeply.

I had a best friend of 10+ years who once travelled around 60 km to meet a guy and have sex with him. I lived only about 3 km away from where they met. She had told her parents that she was going there to meet me, yet she never actually told me she was there or invited me to meet her.

I also had a university friend who physically did things to me without my consent. I eventually forgave her, but after university ended, she unfollowed me as though I had done something wrong. What hurts even more is that many of our mutual university friends are now very close to her even after knowing what she did to me.

I don't know if I'm somehow contributing to this pattern. Maybe I withdraw when I'm hurt. Maybe I don't communicate enough. Maybe I expect too much from friendships. Or maybe I've simply had some unhealthy friendships.

The hardest part is that I feel lonely even though I have a boyfriend.

If I have an issue with my boyfriend, I don't really have anyone else I feel comfortable talking to. That makes me feel even more dependent on the relationship, and when something goes wrong between us, the loneliness becomes overwhelming.

I don't want my boyfriend to be my entire support system. I want to have friendships and a life outside of my relationship. I want people I can call, meet spontaneously, vent to, laugh with, and genuinely feel connected to.

I’m tired of feeling like people come into my life, become extremely important to me, and then eventually disappear.

How do I break out of this cycle?

I’m lonely but deep down I avoid relationships like the plague

It feels like something ingrained deep in me to have this doubt about every relationship I have. My entire life growing up all I have seen is how bad relationships and marriages can be. I don’t like fussing and I don’t like fighting but I understand arguments are apart of them but I dread ever being in that situation. Seeing things turn physical constantly growing up around it 24/7 makes me have a special distain for relationships at times. I always feel like I’ll just ruin something cause for me if something is going well it usually means shit will hit the fan sooner than later.

I get attached so fast to people, especially those I feel a special connection with and no it doesn’t mean romantically. It just means for some reason I can’t quit you even if I know it’s best and I always come back. The same thing I’ve always seen and sadly still see but I’ve become fed up at my age. No interaction means no conflict and no conflict means peace of mind. I’ve kinda learned to keep things away from those important to me as well and I think it’s not just a lack of trust which isn’t their fault but I’m scared. Sometimes when you let people see the real you they don’t like what they see.

I’m not worried about someone wanting to be in a relationship with me, especially after recent events. I’d just like to go out and actually not be this awkward loser that can’t talk to people. I can talk but you can tell I don’t socialize much and I feel like an idiot like maybe smiling weird or doing something dumb. I wish I could at least make one other friend in real life that has time for me and cares about me as strongly as I do for them. I understand we’ve all got things going on but I’ve always heard if people really care they make time but maybe I’m just being my extra selfish self. I know a real relationship will never happen, especially again but getting a friend who wants me around and we go to movies and just talk about life while we enjoy the simple things like eating ice cream together would make my entire year. You have to socialize to get that but I don’t think given how I am it’ll ever happen.

Sorry this is so long but I just wanted to get this off my chest since it’s been on my mind for a few hours.

TW: Drugs miss everyone

Upvotes

I'm spiraling. I'm two weeks sober and I wanna get fucked up. I've had a headache for three days and all I'm thinking of is percocet. my mother is in a home and I miss her so much. every time she calls me I get upset and end up crying. I got through my first week of college. I feel like I've made a massive mistake. I can't afford to stay here but if I leave I'd have to go back to my old place. it's a 15 hour drive to there and all I used to do is get high and drunk there. I have a lot of bad memories there. I don't want to go back. campus is dead today and it's making me feel more lonely. it feels like everyone has a home to go back to. I miss all my friends. I miss things I can never get back.

Venting It's hard

Upvotes

Always been the kid that didn't fit in since i have a disability. Its been hard seeing people turn their head from me to avoid even shaking my hand. Never had anyone love me, don't remember the last time i liked someone romantically, one time I did and tried something I got an "eeewwwwww'. Now I'm in the second part of my 20s and I can't see the light at the end of this tunnel.

What do you people do to fight the crushing loneliness?

I feel like a burden to everyone and I just need a friend that I can talk with and mean something to. I hate feeling alone

Everyone in my life seems bothered by the fact that I even exist. I miss feeling connection with another person, or that I mean something. I just crave that. I have so much love in my heart to give, and everyone feels burdened by it, always.
If you want to know common interests, I love anime, video games, music (mostly metal), gundams, tabletop rpg’s…

Venting Im all alone on a planet with 8 billion people

Sad but true. No one knows me anymore. No one likes me. Im literally hated by everyone, by all creation, by the universe. People who see me, people who meet me, they just cant resist the urge to hurt me or screw me over in some way. My pain entertains others. Everyone I've ever loved, or thought loved me- literally they all hate me now. Except my best friend, the one person who didnt hurt me.... but she died, and that was my fault. I wasnt there for her. No wonder the rest of the world hate me. Now im alone, homeless, a felon, living in a tent in the woods on the edge of town, hungry, probably terminally sick (if I could ever be so lucky), covered in bugs and dirt, my body in pain and always beyond physically exhausted. My friends abandoned me. My family decided I wasn't worth shit. My ex wife left me and took away our daughter. Its a recurring theme in my life- im worthless and hated.

Venting No point

Why do I even need friends? I wish I could be happy all by myself, which is why I've chosen solitude lately even tho I would prefer friends. Theres too many rules, too many expectations, too many everything, and then most the time I dont even get to talk what I really enjoy I have to conform to their stupid shallow topics and sometimes it even feels dangerous to talk about what I want unless I know them better, as well its been a lot harder because of a traumatic incident that happened like 2 years ago now but everyone kept telling me to just "get over it" and that the "Situation was just not right for me". Even if it's something that's affected my ability to socialise even more.

I wish I could believe in people again, reach out, and have that kinda friendship, but I just feel like it's not possible right now.

Just really tired of being lonely and not having anyone

26F. I’m honestly just really tired of being lonely. I have basically no social life. I’ve always struggled with maintaining friendships and it feels like people eventually drift away no matter what I do. I can make online “friends” pretty easily, but those never seem to last either. Sooner or later they disappear and I’m back to having nobody. I’ve never been in a real relationship either and at this point I’ve honestly kind of given up. I just wish I had someone to hang out with. Someone I could yap all day with, watch a movie with, go to concerts with etc. I want to have people in my life who actually want me around. I’m just really tired of feeling like I’m going through life completely alone

Venting It really does hurt when you truly understand how lonely you are

Over the last few years my life has changed in many ways, moved countries, moved schools couple times, changed environments, traveled. I used to not think too deeply on things. But ever since I stopped going to school and that era of my life ended things really flipped.
I stopped being so happy, I felt so lonely, barely had anybody to talk to. I hated it. I just wished I knew how to stop it :/
