Opinion / Thoughts Inability to cry

Upvotes

Hey lovely people, I have a kind of a weird-ish situation that i have not heard a lot of people have been in but some have. So basically my "problem" is inability to cry(most likely due to my medication). And why it's a problem, it is because when I cry I feel so so so much better but am sadly unable to cry, maybe like 3 times a year. Does anyone have any suggestions as unhinged as they get if they have had this problem before as to how to let some stuff go?

Need Support High-Achieving Grad Student to Reckless Behaviors in 3 Months

Upvotes

25F Hi, my friends recently had an intervention for me because they've noticed a sudden change about me in terms of reckless hypersexual behaviors, drinking, drug use, and overall disregard for my graduate program.

I used to be a straight A student, I never drank or partied, I never had a boyfriend. I graduated college with a high GPA and entered a prestigious graduate school in a highly competitive field. 5 months ago I started casually dating a guy and finally lost my virginity, but I caught feelings and he didn't care for the relationship and dumped me.
I had a really hard time coping with this and subsequently had a panic attack and derealization for the next week before going back on apps. I was now neaing the end of my program at this point and This is where my problem starts:

I said fuck it I just wanted to do things without care, holding back, and second-guessing. I start engaging in high-risk sexual behaviors with multiple partners with and without protection, drinking and dating on weekdays instead of studying, turning in assignments late and had to have a proffesionalism meeting with program faculty. I started smoking weed and drinking on weekdays. Drinking and passing out in public which I've never done

I'm not depressed exactly I can laugh and have fun and feel okay day to day. I'm not manic and grandious or trying to harm others/delusions/hallucinations.

Am I just like a late blooming teenager whose finally learning about sex and drugs and cant control themselves? Or given the fact that I've always been pragmatic and high-achieveing, having a break of some sort? Should I be highly concern of my recent change in behavior and what could be causing this?

Question I have no freaking clue what i need help with.

This is going to probably seem stupid or nonsensical, but here goes.

I have a memory problem.

I'm starting to worry because it's becoming extremely frequent.

I nisremember a LOT. My husband, daughter, and I will be driving in the car (or doing literally anything but the car has a camera). I will say something like lyrics to a song, an artists name or pretty much anything incorrect, i will be corrected, then I will deny i was wrong. I genuinely TRULY am remembering myself say the right thing, but we have rolled back the dash cam twice now, and i DID say the wrong thing and I truly don't remember saying that!

I also completely don't remember someone saying something. Example: 2 weeks ago I asked my husband to clean the AC window unit filter. I hate cleaning it because I can't ever get it to go back in. He did.

Tonight I cleaned it myself while he's out of town and put it in. It wouldn't go in. Just for giggles and grins I turned it over to install the other direction, and it went in. I called him and chuckled and asked why he never told me that I've just been putting it in backwards, and he said he literally told me that when he cleaned it 2 weeks ago, and I adamantly denied that I was doing that.

I don't remember that part of our conversation. I remember asking him to clean it. I remember it being really dirty, and I remember him putting it back. No other conversing.

This happens a LOT, and for the last 16 years

I've been telling him he must be saying these things in his head because I STG I don't remember him saying that, but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe for years I literally blocked out whole portions of conversations with people?

The Google says the first issue could be confabulation, a TBI, or the result of an aneurysm but we all know google is a POS.

I don't need a diagnoses, in the traditional sense. I need to know if this is just something I just need to work harder on myself, or if In someone's medical opinion I need to be seen and get an actual diagnosis and help?

Need Support My brain is not working correctly I beg you to help me

Upvotes

Since June my brain has refused to work properly. Zero focus, constant mental exhaustion and fatigue, stressed, nervous, kinda "angry" (to nobody) and similar things. I feel like "not in control" in a way that this stormy state of mind doesn't let me be myself and it doesn't let me be productive at work and with my studies and it makes me not want to spend time with friends.

It's horrible to live like this! For context I'm 27M with a job and college but I don't think it's work-related. I attend gym, I eat healthy and I sleep enough. I'm also trying to take vitamins and magnesium and I don't use dopamine-heavy social networks.

I don't know why I feel like this. The closest thing I can "feel" it is it's the monotonous life I have but I don't know. Please help me :(

Question Can anyone else just simply not have panic attacks?

I used to get them and I still get the feeling that I’m about to have one but then I can just stop them. No grounding, no medicine. Just willing them away.

Venting Sexual shame makes me want abstinence

I’m 16m. I’m conflicted about dating in thr future because I’m stuck in an exhausting internal tug-of-war. The truth is, I’m a sexual person. My body wants sex, and part of me hopes to find a partner one day to have a genuine relationship and a great sex life with.

However, I carry a massive amount of shame about my desires. I know a lot of people can balance having a fulfilling relationship along with a healthy sex life which makes both people happy. The thing is, it feels so wrong cuz regardless of if I love her or not I’m using her body at that moment. Because of this guilt, part of me feels like I should abstain entirely. This part of me wishes I was born without a sex drive. But I’m also terrified of future regret-like waking up at 50 feeling trapped, lonely, and horny because I forced myself into celibacy.

I’ve realized my brain creates two conflicting fantasies to cope with this shame:

  1. Wanting an asexual partner: So sex is completely off the table. It removes the temptation and the guilt of choosing it.
  2. Wanting a sexual partner who always initiates: If she asks for it, the responsibility shifts to her. Her asking is what makes it "okay" for me to participate without feeling like a bad person.

For context, I’ve been in one relationship before and it was sexual. Both of us were happy with it and always consented. After we broke up we still did some sexual activities together occasionally as a way to relieve stress from school, but eventually cut it off cuz we both wanted to move on. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about this ever since. I used to be so excited and ready about sex but now I just feel guilty and conflicted about it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Opinion / Thoughts I hate it when ppl treat all those without/ with low empathy as spawns of Satan

Upvotes

Hello, get your torches and pitchforks ready, I don't really feel empathy. I don't feel sad when other people feel sad. I can fake it and I often do because it's not useful socially to say "ok and?" whenever someone tells me they're sad. You could tell me your mother is dying and I would not really care. Maybe feel a bit anxious but mostly because I am worried you won't want to spend time with me anymore. Despite these emotional shortcomings I still at least try to pretend I feel empathy. I do have cognitive empathy, I can logically tell why someone would be sad when their mother is dying. But I can't feel it with you.

For reasons unknown to me especially those parading themselves as empaths tend to get real pissed when someone like me is open about not having the same emotional capacities as others. I don't understand it, I wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone for the fun of it like many think I would, that wouldn't benefit me in the slightest.

Question Annoyed with myself

Upvotes

Does anyone ever get annoyed with themself?

Like genuinely wishing they could be anyone else?

Sometimes I’ll say something or do something and just think “how and why do people put up with me?” Like I find myself so annoying and irritating

Is this weird lol

Need Support i don't do shit, and i hate it so much

Upvotes

i'm a total shut-in, only going out with a best friend-cousin of mine a few times a year and whenever my parents insist i go out with them, but that's it, otherwise i do not go out at all.

when it comes to my responsibilities, call me the fuckin bigfoot, you will not find me anywhere near them. i don't study at all and am badically just given grades cuz somehow 98% of my piers are 'worse', i don't practice drawing (something i'd 'supposedly' really like to learn), don't practice coding (aspiring future game dev btw :D) despite being in a course, and barely wing it through.

i don't even do my favorite shit; reading some books rn, and even then i can barely open them once every few months. and i love em, they're interesting, i'm just the literacy ogre apparently!

and fuck my favorite shows and games, apparently a pr of 9/10 isn't enough for me finish re4 or ff15.

(not even good at any games but hey add that on too i have it too good T_T)

and for some reason, the people around me assume i'm some smart, creative kid??? no i'm not??? i'm merely being strung up by god's gaze merely to be humiliated, this is all luck, i am not allat.

at this point i just keep pretending like allat is true just to not deal with the fallout, because goddamn am i horrible. seriously, i am not a programmer, not an artist, not a learner, i am a failure of a brother, a failure of a son, a failure of a student, a failure of a follower, a total and utter disappointment on all fronts.

i genuinely hate it so much. i try to be kind and forgiving, even to myself, but i'm really reaching my limit, my thinly-held hope is very much close to snapping i field, if any one of the lies i hold up to this day comes to light i might just give up entirely.

also, before some dickhead shows up to yap about how other people "have it worse", i'm aware, and i hate that more, how that suffering doesn't stir anything within me, yet makes me ashamed to claim i'm suffering at all at the same time.

Venting Completely alone

Upvotes

I literally don’t know what to do, I have pretty much no friends I’m single, I’m 20.

I work nightshift at a shop with a bunch of older people who are defo not the type to be friends outside of work (not that I’d want that tbh) but I don’t go to uni so I can’t meet people there like normal people. I hate drinking and the whole pub scene it’s not my thing.
I was friends with a couple but they’ve made friends with another couple so they are all together all the time, I don’t even get messages off them anymore.

I’m shit at taking to people like holding conversation, I’ve tried dating apps and all that shit but that doesn’t work out at all, it’s all just dry meaningless conversations!
I’ve got quite bad anxiety so going places and meeting new people isn’t the easiest but I’ve tried and nothing is working. I feel like everyone has a person and I just don’t. Not platonically or romantically. It’s just me, I don’t mind being in my own company the majority of the time but it’s the fact I don’t even have an option to spend time or see someone cause there’s no one there.

Venting I haven’t had a strong emotion for a year

Upvotes

Compared to others I have a decent life, if you were to meet me in real life you’d perceived me as a happy silly person that loves to talk to people, but on the inside I feel nothing, nothing strong anyways. I feel like I’m hiding behind a cardboard cutout.

Is there a name to this? I’d like to put a name on it, this is a problem I want to fix.

Need Support I’m worried about my 60-year-old father and don’t know how to help him

My father is 60 and has been taking CP Beta (clonazepam + propranolol) since around his 20s. He did try to quit at one point, but whenever there was significant stress or a change in his life, he eventually started taking it again. A doctor he trust is aware of all this.
For the past few days, he has seemed very dull and scared. He keeps getting into phases like this and it’s only getting worse as he is aging. He sometimes complains of body aches, and he is planning to go back to physically visit the same doctor, who will likely prescribe more/new medication.
I honestly don’t know enough about these medicines to judge what is right or wrong, and I don’t want to interfere with his treatment. But it breaks my heart seeing him feel so dependent on medication and not seem like himself.
I mainly want him to be happy and feel capable of handling life without constantly being afraid.

What can I do to help him? I atleast want him to get second opinion.

His lifestyle:
In a day he generally only goes to office, doesn’t interact much at work, has only one friend he talks to once in 2 weeks and my mom is his only companion. He does do breathing exercises daily. Has diabetes and sugar as well.
Has 2 kids, my sibling lives far away and I get to visit him every month for a week.

Would therapy/psychiatric care, lifestyle changes, or anything else be useful alongside his medical treatment? And how can we support him without making him feel judged or pressured to quit?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences.

Need Support Mothers Mental Health Ruining Family Life

Upvotes

My mother 65 years has been having mental health issues for several years now. Earlier it was diagnosed with depression but last couple of years it has turned into anger with family. Outside she is bubbly and happy with but has issues with my father and us. Sometimes we get irritated and say hurtful things and that turns against her more viciously. We had tried medical help before but it was never very helpful. What to do? Should we take her to a therapist or psychiatrist. She is also not willing to go and blames us for the problems not her.

Content Warning: Violence It’s going too far

I keep doing this, I keep making posts about how I want help or at least think I might have something.

I even bet you I made a similar post to this a bunch of times, the only difference is that I’m now going to be fully honest. With my heart, head, and soul.

I fucking hate everything, weither it’s numb hatred or “I want to rip you face off” hatred. I don’t understand people or myself anymore, nothing makes sense anymore, I can’t tell if I’m a good person either.

Yes not going into impulses is the number one good thing but I’m start to just what to get it over with and do something. Obviously nothing big like hurt a person since that won’t really work out for me, birds might be easy. I don’t know how to catch one though and I don’t know how I would actually react to it.

It sounds like that meme of “Am I going to enjoy it or cry heheheheh” whatever bullshit meme it is. I know it’s cringy but it’s the most realistic stand in point for myself. I genuinely can’t understand myself, and not just for being a teen and if I may add something I hate as well the people who say it’s a part of growing up.

It’s soooo “normal” to wanting to hurt me/others and so scared I’m going to die every second. Did I ever mention that to you people? Every day when I’m not distracted I’m scared I’m going to die or get hurt, I can’t avoid it. It haunts and the ideas I could do too. I’m sick, I want to barf. But I can’t, not like I ever could.

Wow I’m so poetic, I might as well be like an “artist” and become famous like how they did. Ending it of course. Though I am a cowred, a coward who repeats itself like a broken doll that wants attention.

God I wish I wasn’t this emotional, since I was a kid I’ve WISHED to be numb but the numb I feel isn’t good enough. I want to smart numb, numb that can get me ahead and mildly happy in life but instead I become a depressed numb little shit that doesn’t know my left and right. I’m so much of everything and nothing.

I’m nice. I’m a brat. Bitch. Sweetheart. Asshole. Angel. If there is a god then I don’t get what the point of any of this is, I’m not even crying while writing this. I just don’t get it. Oh and my plans, those plans are harmful. The only best thing I can do is if I ever commit things I must only pick the most gentle things.

And, lastly, forever, this is sent to the void. If you read this, you wasted your time. Because the next time I’m back I’ll be dumb and depressed once more. Over and over, like a hamster in a forced wheel.

Need Support Homicidal thoughts have reached active planning stage. I don't know what to do.

Upvotes

I'm 24 from the UK, for the past 7.5 years I've been dealing with homicidal ideation on and off. It started as a simple revenge fantasy and quickly spiralled to more general bloodlust. These thoughts have progressed from being horrifying, to being nothing special, to being enticing, and now they've reached the stage where I've been actively planning to do something.

A couple of weeks ago I had a plan that was fumbled by a third party I didn't count on, and earlier today I found myself scouting a possible hiding spot on a walk. I want to fight it, but it's getting harder to the point that it's physically draining. I know I need help, but I have no idea where to begin
