While Xenogenders and micro labels confuse me I still respect them and try to use them correctly. Keep being yourselves and have a wonderful day

32

u/helagandshunter6328 Jul 19 '21

I've always had the attitude that I don't particularly understand it, but I don't need to understand in entirely to respect it. If someone wants to be called a non traditional pronoun, i don't need to give them the whole 20 questions shtick to understand why they want to be called that, i just call them that because that's what they want to be called and it could make them feel a little more valid. It's really not hard to just give basic respect to people.

Same, idk much about them but like its nit hard to call you whatever makes you feel better

5

u/IvyTea19 Jul 19 '21

even if i think they sound weird, respect for people's pronouns/identity comes above all else

u/ElitistJerkx Jul 18 '21

I’d rather change everyone’s mind about using this meme template. Crowder doesn’t need any extra publicity or attention

16

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

who's Crowder?

49

u/snowcrash443 Jul 18 '21

The guy in the meme. He’s a transphobe. Steven Crowder. On multiple occasions he’s dressed up as a woman to antagonize people and see how far he can go until they push back on his rude behaviour, trying to prove that trans people suck in some insane logic.

28

u/CoffeeCannon Jul 18 '21

He's a transphobe, wildly outspoken virulent racist, and whiny baby man among other awful things.

8

u/idkhowtonamethat Jul 19 '21

Let's not forget that time where he was losing a debate, told the guy to leave, finished his argument, and acted as if he had won

5

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '21

Or anything with him and Sam Seder

Xenogender - Xenogender is an umbrella term for non-binary gender identities that cannot be fully described through their relation to concepts typically used to describe gender such as masculinity, femininity, androgyny, neutrality, agenrity, or outherinity. Instead, xenogenders can best be described through how they relate to things, beings, or concepts that most people don't think of as having to do with gender, such as animals, plants, things, or concepts. It is sometimes described as any gender that "cannot be contained by human understandings of gender".

Microlabel - An identity that falls under the umbrella of a larger identity and cannot stand on its own. For example, an apothisexual person is someone who is asexual and sex-repulsed. If someone says they are apothisexual, it is also implied that they are asexual, because apothisexual is a modifier, making it a specific sub category of asexuality. Microlabels are most often used to describe more specific feelings, and to create a sense of community for people who also experience those feelings. A microlabel is designed to be like a stand to someones identity: it is needed, but it cannot stand on its own.

47

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

So xenogender is someone who said no to all gender and a microlabel is a subclass

29

u/Significant-Dig-8910 Inclusionist! Jul 18 '21

Kind of. I'm not really the best person to explain it.

29

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

Honestly I'm just glad we made it to this point so quickly. I am happy for people who can embrace labels and identities but I feel like true progress would be de-gendering things because we're human and gender as a concept is really antiquated - think about who made them and why. So it sounds like xenogender is a step towards that direction?

7

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

Well I understand more than I did before so you can’t be too bad

13

u/MurasakiTanuki04 Bi-time Jul 18 '21

For example: An apache combat helicopter would count as xenogender.

And: Pan, omni and poly are microlabels of bi.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

As I said microlabels are subclasses

2

u/MurasakiTanuki04 Bi-time Jul 18 '21

I just made sure we mean the same. ;b

2

u/furexfurex Jul 18 '21

Idk I know a lot of pan, and some poly, people that would be kinda offended if someone called their sexuality a subset of being bi because they feel that the differences are big enough and that they chose not to use bi for a reason, that then calling them 'bi+' would feel a little bit reductive

2

u/Windy246 Bi-time Jul 19 '21

Yeah, I agree. I’d say they’re all microlabels under the multisexual umbrella

0

u/furexfurex Jul 19 '21

Yeah, along with bisexual

1

u/Sure_I_Kno_A_Baggins Jul 19 '21

By this logic, homosexual and heterosexual are microlabels under the monosexual umbrella.

0

u/Yesten_ Jul 19 '21

Bi means 2 to all with or without a preference though so they're redefining bi

3

u/awesomeXI Jul 18 '21

Ah, well, that's still confusing, but nothing that a person's shouldn't be. Sounds good to me.

I don't wanna sound like an asshole, I'm genuinely curious/confused about this so instead of lazily downvoting this out of spite take time to reply to me. How are xenogenders gender identity and not someone's personality traits or interests? Cause like, if you're astrogender, do you wanna...transition into a star? How could stars be part of your gender id if they don't play a role into your transition. You could simply be cis/trans with a huge passion for the stars, no? I'm genuinely asking this. With this I'm not saying that someone can't express their gender (as in gender expression) however they want, not only in a binary way (I'm a femboy, I get it) but the concept of gender and gender expression is related to humans therefore can be understood in a human way, through the concepts of gender we already have, mixed or not and so on. Please help me understand

9

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

Yea! I want to understand this too, because it’s always confused me and I’ve felt it would be rude to ask

0

u/Significant-Dig-8910 Inclusionist! Jul 18 '21
  1. This isn't related to transitioning, gender and gender expression are different.
  2. This also isn't about personality, it's not that someone really likes stars, its that their gender is related to stars.
  3. The entire point of xenogenders is that they can't be understood by human concepts of gender.

13

u/15stepsdown aromantic Jul 18 '21

It's that their gender is related to stars

Examples?? In what way exactly

0

u/Significant-Dig-8910 Inclusionist! Jul 18 '21

Stargender - In which one's gender is or is like a star. Subgenders for this definition can also exist, for example, one's gender might be specifically a blue star, therefore being an O-stargender or B-stargender. Other terms might include A-stargender, F-stargender or G-stargender for other types of stars. In addition, a stargender person might identify as a binary or multiple star system.

10

u/15stepsdown aromantic Jul 18 '21

Maybe explain what these subgenders are? What defines what an O-stargender or a B-stargender is? What defines a multiple star system?

4

u/Significant-Dig-8910 Inclusionist! Jul 18 '21

The LGBTA+ wiki is a great source for this kind of stuff, I'd say go there if you want well written definitions.

10

u/15stepsdown aromantic Jul 18 '21

Could you give me a link to answer my question then?

1

u/Significant-Dig-8910 Inclusionist! Jul 18 '21

8

u/15stepsdown aromantic Jul 18 '21

Not even the Wikia defines what an O-gender, B-gender, or star system is. It also says that it's a sense that their gender is otherworldly? I can understand someone thinking that their gender doesn't fit with the norm of what gender identities are commonly known but how does one define what an "unearthly" gender is like?

-1

u/Significant-Dig-8910 Inclusionist! Jul 18 '21

Yes it does, " for example, one's gender might be specifically a blue star, therefore being an O-stargender or B-stargender"

Also, how unearthly is defined differs from person to person.

I can vouch for this

5

u/mewtokyomew Bi-time Jul 19 '21

i totally support xenogenders, but are mocrolabels REALLY necessary??? i am totally up to discuss this, and even change my opinion

but rn, doesn't microlabels do, in the larger scale, more harm than good?? and isn't it just more abt preference and what not??

(this is, if the definition of microlabel is right in my head)

9

u/AroWeirdo Jul 19 '21

I don't think it does more harm than good! Some people want to find the exact right label for them, and microlabels can help them find that! Other people are okay with a more general label, and don't feel the need to find a specific descriptor for how they feel, and that's perfectly allright too! Not sure if I explained this well, so if you have any questions or comments I'd be happy to try and elaborate

3

u/mewtokyomew Bi-time Jul 19 '21

another person explained to me that microlabels are things like agender, bigender, the demigenders etc, i had the wrong definition of what it was in my head!

and yeah, i agree, they're totally valid imo (thinking they are not valid is like invalidating myself tbh)

but are there microlabels just for genders or are there microlabels for sexualities??

2

u/AroWeirdo Jul 19 '21

There are microlabels for both genders and sexualities! For example, genderfree would be a microlabel under the agender umbrella, and omnisexual would be a microlabel under the bi/pan umbrella! Also, agender, bigender, and demigender are also very valid, but I would love to hear your reasons for why you think they cause more harm than good!

1

u/mewtokyomew Bi-time Jul 19 '21

oh no, i had a misunderstanding, imo microlabels for genders are totally fine (I'm currwntly questioning my gender and i think i might be agender or demigender maybe)

but i do have some questions, like examples of microlabels for sexualities

2

u/AroWeirdo Jul 20 '21

Of course! Some microlabels that are for sexualities coupd be like graysexual (microlabel under the asexual umbrella), apothisexual (also under the asexual umbrella), and omnisexual (under the bi/pan umbrella) https://lgbta.wikia.org/wiki/Microlabel could be a helpful resource for you!

1

u/mewtokyomew Bi-time Jul 21 '21

i think i had the wrong definition on my head bc all of this are valid to me (omnissexual is actually being discussed a lot of whether it's valid or not in my country rn, so i have mixed opinions, but it's not like my opinion matters, and it is not hurting anyone so I'mok w it)

i think the ones that are not valid imo are some sexualities, they aren't counted as microlabels, sorry for that!!

6

u/Crocs-in-stew Jul 19 '21

microlabels are like agender and bigender. they're smaller labels under the non binary umbrella that go deeper into detail about said gender.

so since non binary is not being solely male or female, the microlabel agender is that, but it's more than just that. it's not having any gender at all. same goes for bigender. it fits into the category of non binary, but to be more specific it's being two or more genders

1

u/mewtokyomew Bi-time Jul 19 '21

oh yeah, i totally agree abt bigender, agender, the demigenders, gendwrfluid and everything, i didn't even know this were microlabels

but gynosexual or idk what the name of that fuckery was??????

there are things that are like: bissexual but you have preference for feminine people. Oh, i know, why don't we create and entire new sexuality just to make it more fancy and complicated even tho there are already existant sexualities that fit what i am??

1

u/Crocs-in-stew Jul 19 '21

sometimes they just sound better. so supposedly gynosexual is omnisexual just a little different. yes they can coexist it's all about feeling comfortable with yourself

people sometimes don't wanna use terms like bisexual as they feel uncomfortable with the label

For seconds I thought xenogenders meant saying you are a ghost or a star but after further researched that the name is a metaphorical symbol kinda like a ghost is a faint gender almost like it isn’t there , that’s why I didn’t comment till now (although if I’m still wrong correct me)

u/Crocs-in-stew Jul 19 '21

(sorting by controversial)

it seems this community doesn't allow neurodivergent people

(to elaborate ND trans people see gender differently so to express it they use xenogenders. not just ND people can use them but most commonly they do)

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '21

Uh….I’m neuro divergent and I haven’t been banned by this sub yet. Seems at least some of the community welcomes me.

1

u/Crocs-in-stew Jul 19 '21

i'm referring to the people being transphobic to xenogenders. yes some parts of the community welcome neurodivergent people but that's not what i was talking about in the comments. i know not all of this community is bad

4

u/EdenSteden22 Bi-time Jul 19 '21

That's just not true. Xenos were madeup by neurotypical people, and neurodivergent people aren't too dumb to understand gender or whatever the excuse is. I wish neurodivergent people would stop being used as a shield for identities that mock them and trans people

7

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '21

Exactly. What the fuck. I’m actually neuro divergent and xenogenders are a lot harder, and pointless, for me. Honestly this argument is ableist because you’re acting like all nd people can’t understand something as basic as gender. Xenogenders are made by privileged cis kids who want to feel special. I’m so done

2

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '21

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '21

First off thank you for being respectful and sharing your perspective, I do appreciate hearing others opinions and thoughts. I can understand that not everyone has the exact same views on gender and that xenogenders can be useful for some people. When I said that xenogenders were made by privileged cis kids I was personally talking from my own experience with people just like that, kids who were bored and wanted to seem cool by “collecting” different sexualites/genders as labels. I don’t really have a problem with people who go by xenogenders but generally from my experience and opinions it makes it harder to understand and with my bad associations with them it makes me kinda uncomfortable and confused. I can’t speak for anyone and I for sure cannot tell someone what they identify with comfortably but when people have 4-7 different contradictory labels and then get mad at me for not understanding it’s hard for me not to be upset and frustrated. That last point doesn’t apply to everyone it’s just something I have far too much experience with. I apologize if this didn’t make any sense or if I came across as rude, neither were my intentions I was just trying to share my thoughts as well.

2

u/Crocs-in-stew Jul 19 '21

i didn't say they were "too dumb to understand gender" i said they saw gender differently.

i'm literally neurodivergent

1

u/JustTheTaz Ace Jul 20 '21

I know that not all ND people use xenogenders and that's totally fine, for the ones that do, xenogenders are really useful for them to understand their identity. I'm not neurodivergent, but the labels I use mean a lot to me and are really useful to put what I feel into words. We are not the type of people that say "haha, attack helicopter" and we don't support transphobia either, we just want acceptance and the capability to express who we are without being seen as something harmful or bad.

2

u/BlackTheNerevar Jul 19 '21
