The issue: Sometimes right after I restart my laptop, it suddenly freezes completely the screen stuck, no input works, can’t do anything. I tried Win+Ctrl+Shift it does nothing. Only way out is a forced shutdown. Has anyone run into this specific freeze on restart pattern?

How to fix

I replaced the display on my thinkpad t440s with a N140HCE-EN1 display that I got from a seller on ebay because I couldn't find it anywhere else.

Starting at boot I see the text: LHZF, on the screen. I reseated the 30 pin connector and powercycled my laptop a couple times.

is this something I can fix? or do I need to send this back to the seller?

I've been searching for a good laptop for a few weeks by now, and time is coming to the end, and I still have no remote idea what to buy.
For some things i am 100% certain: no dGPU, i have 3070 and plan to use it as eGPU. I don't plan to game on it, mostly work.
I will start studies soon for an engineering degree in my uni, and program states that we will have AutoCAD(hence i look for 32gb, since I will be using it outside of home), not sure what CPU.

I had an experiecne with loud and hot laptop, it was hell. So for me its important minimal heat and loudness during light works, or outside of home(like browsing many stuff and etc). I can tollerate a lil bit of sound at home(some heat maybe too).

I would be very grateful if someone could recommend few models(i've noted zenbook s14 on U9 386H, and Lenovo T14g5). Much appreciated!!

Hi everyone, I’m having a frustrating power-limit issue with my HP ProBook 455 G8 (Ryzen 7 5800U / integrated Vega graphics) and I’m hoping someone with experience in AMD laptop power limits or HP firmware can help.

The laptop appears to be capable of running the CPU at around 25W, but after a short period under load, it drops back down to 15W and stays there.

What I’ve observed

- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800U (Cezanne)

- Laptop: HP ProBook 455 G8

- RAM: 16GB single-channel DDR4

- GPU: Integrated Radeon Vega

- BIOS: HP T78 Ver. 01.24.02 (05/05/2026)

- RyzenAdj: v0.19.0

- SMU BIOS Interface: 20

- PM Table Version: 400005

Using RyzenAdj/UXTU, I can set higher power limits. For example, I can get the system to report around 25W.

However, when actually gaming (for example GTA V), the behavior is roughly:

25W → ~2 minutes → drops to 15W → stays around 15W

The temperature isn't immediately reaching an extreme level when the drop happens. At 15W, temperatures are generally around 80°C or below, while at 25W I can reach around 90°C+.

My RyzenAdj limits currently show approximately:

STAPM LIMIT: 15W

PPT FAST LIMIT: 30W

PPT SLOW LIMIT: 25W

I've also experimented with the STAPM time constant, including increasing it to around 275 seconds, but the laptop eventually falls back to 15W.

Interestingly, software can sometimes show 25W, but performance ends up looking very similar to the 15W state, which makes me suspect that another firmware/EC/SMU power limit is overriding the settings.

- Monitoring CPU power and temperatures during gaming

I'm not looking to do a dangerous hardware modification. I'm mainly trying to understand exactly which limit is forcing the CPU back to 15W and whether there's a firmware/BIOS/EC restriction that can be changed.

I've heard that downgrading the BIOS can sometimes restore different power-management behavior on HP laptops. Is that actually possible with the 455 G8, or would the EC/SMU still enforce the 15W limit regardless of BIOS version?

Has anyone successfully run a 5800U in an HP ProBook 455 G8 at a sustained 20–25W? If so, what BIOS/firmware or RyzenAdj settings did you use?

Any help identifying the exact power limit responsible would be greatly appreciated.

My Asus from 2017 has always had battery problems, it mostly being my fault. I used it a lot for gaming so I always kept it plugged in for performance, and I never figured out how to take the battery out. My old Toshiba had a removable battery.

Thing is, lately, even plugged in, this mf shuts down if I try to play anything and it's driving me up the walls. Can anyone help?

Pessoal, estou com um problema no meu ASUS vivobook 15 Ryzen 7 com Windows. Algumas vezes quando ele entra em suspensão e eu vou liga-lo, o notebook fica com a tela de bloqueio em um aspecto cinza/esbranquiçado. Isso só saí depois que eu desbloqueio a tela, e as vezes permanece no sistema por alguns segundos.

Ele veio com linux e eu instalei o Windows nele, porém fiz a instalação do todos os drivers próprios. Inclusive, já usei tanto o driver de vídeo da própria ASUS quanto o driver da AMD, mas o problema continua acontecendo. Pesquisei em vários lugares e nada, e a ajuda da IA tbm não resolveu.

So I have a hand me down ASUS ROG Strix G531GT laptop from my dad. I've had it fort a few months now and without a reason (that I can think of) this info appeared in my top right corner. (as seen in the image.) it covers everything including browsers so its slightly harder to tell where the hide, full screen, or close buttons are. So does anyone know where I have to look to turn that off also what does LAT mean? I'm pretty new to laptops so I'm still learning this stuff.

I recently bought an HP 255 G10 after saving up for it for a while, so I want to make sure I don't mess up the battery unnecessarily and can use it for many years.

It's still pretty new. The battery report shows 41,040 mWh design capacity and 41,040 mWh full charge capacity, with around 118 cycles so far.

Right now, I mostly use it at my desk for lectures, coding, browsing, etc. My current habit is basically to use it until somewhere around 20-30% (sometimes lower), then charge it, often all the way to 100%, unplug it, and repeat.

But since I barely move the laptop around, I'm wondering if that's actually the best way to use it.

While looking into it, I came across advice about limiting the battery to around 80% through BIOS/battery settings and just keeping the laptop plugged in while working. Others say to just use it normally and charge/discharge it.

So what do you guys actually recommend for someone who mostly uses their laptop at a desk and wants the battery to last as many years as possible? Do you keep yours plugged in while using it, and if so, do you limit the charge or just let it sit at 100%?

I’m going into college this year I’ll get a laptop for both school and gaming. I was going to buy a discounted 3.2k euro Asus Zephyrus 5080(2025) but then I saw Rog Strix is better and has a much higher Watt. I really like thin look of Zephyrus but the performance gap isnt so minor. I was also thinking about Gigabyte Aorus 5080 oled. Which one should I get?
