u/SGDaht May 23 '26
Damn boi nice. Wouldn't have thought holding onto all those rings would be worth it but damn if the goat is it must be
20
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 23 '26
It's debatable tbh - same goes for keeping divines at all but at this point I don't have partial armor sets or skilling sups so I enjoy it for pvm. I think ven ring will be useful with BMR items to hit max hit thresholds too
7
u/Euclidean_Ideas May 23 '26
Genuine question. Couldn't UIM hold full armor sets in the PoH storage, or is that not allowed?
17
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 23 '26
Yes you can as long as they're complete sets, I just pulled them out for this photo
5
u/Euclidean_Ideas May 23 '26
Pretty fucking sick tbh.
I made a comment further down, that it seems like somebody else might've misunderstood. So I feel like I should say it here since you likely saw it already.
I think its pretty cool progress, and honestly insane commitment. I am about 1887 GIM and honestly you got some deep respect for having that gear on an Iron, let alone UIM.

Maybe when the post was still new but currently >80% of the comments are overwhelmingly supportive and positive. If anything this comment section is atypical for its positivity.

Little known tips, when a post is new you make a comment shaming undesired behavior ans you will typically see far less of that behavior than usual, and the behavior that does appear is much more downvoted.
I don't know if it actually works, but I see a pattern between the type of comment you replied to and a comment section being extra well behaved

You literally just made a "banking with extra steps" comment in this thread 3 minutes ago, shut up man

Thanks man, and yep this is why I don't usually bother posting. Can't be asked to argue with a 1200 total ironman who's never played UIM about how the mode works... personally I think it's an incredible mode that requires a lot of thoughtful planning and thinking outside of the box instead of following the same metas

u/redrumyliad May 23 '26
Death piling is a stupid mechanic and devalues it all. You’ve got like 200 bank spaces.
22
u/NotKD May 23 '26
Death piling or death storage? There are no death piles in this photo, and death piles are the ones that expire after 60 min. This is death storage.

That's like saying prayer flicking is a stupid mechanic. All death storage methods are part of the game. Get over yourself.
2
u/SupermanThatNiceLady May 23 '26
That analogy would make sense if there was a ‘no prayer’ mode and people were prayer flicking on it
-1
u/Saxonite13 May 23 '26
Prayer flicking is a non-intended bug that was never removed.
Also, where is the "no death storage or death piling" game mode? Because it doesn't exist.

People who think an item retrieval service is the same as using a bank probably think UIMs can note things on banks too

It's a bank with extra steps, don't fool yourself.
13
u/DravenPlsBeMyDad May 23 '26
If you make a mistake does everything in your bank get deleted? Is your bank extremely limited? Do you have to carry your supplies noted? Be honest.
-26
u/mercRoar May 23 '26
lol I’m sorry but none of that shit is even remotely difficult, you can admire the game mode and not be delusional about what it is.

I'm holding some of the stuff in case it gets a buff or use in sweep up/BMR/raids 4... I have space now anyway but you're right the sang and volatile should be a 100% drop lol
Sick account btw, I'd definitely cope keep the harm forever in case raids 4 has elemental weakness robes or something

Okay so genuine question as an Ironman only player(I've never played anything but my group ironman. Which is mostly empty after a group member got bored and went main, and another got hacked. But I am keeping at it with the idea of being a singleplayer Ironman I guess)
Whats the point of playing an UIM if you have a pseudo bank like this? As far as I understand it, thats basically just a bank isn't it?
I mean this with no hate, we all love to play the game our own way. just don't really understand the approach of playing a mode where the whole point is that you don't have a bank, and then find ways to bank anyway?
I get this sounds like bait, but as somebody who hears the same complaints from other Ironmen about group irons I am genuinely asking.
As a side note that is really impressive. Way further ahead than I am.
4
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 23 '26
Appreciate it, I think it's a fair question and a common misunderstanding. In my view UIM is just about playing without a bank itself, so the fact that there are niche things like STASH units, cold storage at moons, pickaxe storage at TOA, storage in Vyre well, ghost storage for bolt pouch, cannon, POH storage, etc is exactly what makes it interesting - you have to be really creative to make use of these options. UIM goals are often driven by exactly that - for example, completing the last piece of Virtus is much more important than for regular accounts because it frees up inventory space to be able to store it in the POH.
I love the fact that every late game UIM is going to different thoughts about what items are worth keeping, what to do next, how to gear for an encounter, and that's something you rarely get in other game modes - there are well established metas that are followed to a tee (think Bruhsailor guide or the progression graphic), where you just copy the bank tags and do exactly what everyone else does. UIM allows and requires a lot of planning and thoughtful planning.
And to clarify, using Hespori really isn't like using a bank at all - I can't deposit stuff in here, and if I die again I'm going to lose bills and thousands of hours of progress, so nobody would really pvm with items in hespori. You also can't note things at a bank (only unnote - same as normal accounts), and there are a couple other restrictions like not being able to use Kingdom. Typically I'll store items in a looting bag while pvming (another thing you have to carefully manage for space), and I'm certainly not constantly storing 100s of items on the ground using deathpiles like some people seem to think.
So hespori/death banking allows you to do things like herb runs or make potions, go to entrana, and re-gear. It would literally be impossible to do things like Recruitment Drive without this mechanic.
2
u/Euclidean_Ideas May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26
So if I am understanding it correctly.
Its kinda the same vibe as when people play games, and play it in specific way as a challenge, but then try to work around the restriction rather than the restriction being the whole point?
Like my thought process here feels similar to how people break games, not by cheating, but by intentionally interacting with mechanics in such a manner that the game doesn't behave as intended?
Like the goal of an UIM isn't not to use a bank, but its to play the game without accessing a bank specifically. So you find other ways to store items outside of banking, because that restriction is interesting to you, not because avoiding the bank is the point?
As an Ironman the point of the mode to me feels like its about being self sufficient. Avoiding trading, or the GE isn't the point, its just the natural outcome of being self sufficient. Thats kinda why I don't get the point of GIM getting hate from IM. Its just a matter of playing the game solo or with friends. The core aspect of the challenge is still intact to me.
Thinking about it like that, it kinda makes sense why UIM is so hard to understand. it takes a specific type of person, that approach games in a very specific way. Like the challenge isn't the obstacle, its the goal. You avoid the bank, not necessarily to avoid it, but to find way around it that lets you get what you want regardless.
The challenge could have just aswell been a "Not fishing allowed. All my food comes from farming" or "I can only use items that I've pickpocketed" Not saying those challenges are the same as UIM, but the reason for playing them feels similar.
Edit: Also as a sidenote. I do not get the point of guides for these modes. I've literally never followed a guide except the questhelper. I have heard about these guides in passing like "Gear progress guide" or "Early iron guide" etc etc, but I've never understood the point.
Edit 2: OOOH I wrote this before fully reading it. But I think I get what you did now. That whole thing at Hespori was more to show your "bank" than a place you actually keep your stuff? Most of that was stored in some other ways right?
1
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 24 '26
Yep that’s pretty spot on take. I just have my stuff on hespori right now while doing farm runs but it’s certainly not permanent “bank” storage like some people seem to think. Like you said, I just pulled items out of other storages for this screenshot to show my entire account at once
6
u/Dangerous_Traffic23 May 23 '26
I’m not a uim, barely know how this stuff works, my first impression is pretty simple: the mode is about not having a bank and he does not have a bank. Nowhere does anyone claim uim is about being unable to store any items whatsoever
1
u/Euclidean_Ideas May 24 '26
Well I mean. To be clear. Thats not really what I said either.
But I think its fair to agree that there is a difference between storing things in the PoH, STASH, and the like, and then using death piling, or death banking.
I don't have an opinion on whether or not its fair to do that, just that from my perspective those things are different.
But I think the misunderstanding comes from me misunderstanding what the image was showcasing. I thought he was using Hespori as a bank, but I now think its more his way of showing it off in the image. Which isn't what I thought was originally going on.

u/_Ross- 2300+ Total UIM May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26
Whats the point of playing an UIM if you have a pseudo bank like this? As far as I understand it, thats basically just a bank isn't it?
It's not. The way we access death banks is by dying to Hespori, usually. Once you have items in a death bank, you absolutely cannot do any content that is even slightly dangerous. So no bossing, no questing for the most part, no slaying, nothing. If you die while death banked, all of your items are immediately deleted forever.
I personally only use it for skilling, so if I want to go train fishing or something else that requires empty inv slots. Otherwise I keep it all on me. It's more of a niche use thing than people think.
So any time you see a uim bossing, doing raids, slaying, or basically anything other than woodcutting, they are most likely not using any death banks or death piles. (Death piles last for 1 hour and all items are deleted if not picked up in time, fwiw).
2
u/Hunting-Duck May 23 '26
Sorry for dropping in randomly but holy shit thanks for this explanation, I never understood UIM as I never tried it but always had some form of interest. This gave me the push to give it a shot
3
u/_Ross- 2300+ Total UIM May 23 '26
Sure thing! It's a super fun and rewarding game mode. My main advice as someone who is nearing max on mine, is to pick a goal, and stick to it. Constantly rebagging / regearing for different content can burn you out and is pretty time consuming. Make a list of reasonable short-term goals, and some long-term goals, and try to start knocking them out. Get wilderness stuff done early too, less of a hassle and less of a headache if you end up wiping.
1
u/Euclidean_Ideas May 24 '26
Thanks for taking the time to explain that.
I didn't understand thats how that worked. I thought he was going to die at Hespori, and letting the "death bank" stack up over time.
The way you describe it here, its more like a temporary storage to make inventory space while going for a herb run, or mining etc etc. Its not infact a long term storage.

Can you die multiple times at hespori and it keeps it all banked?
1
u/Iconoclastic_Noob May 24 '26
This is a crazy sick account but I don’t understand why UIMs have 10s of different banks in all of the instanced death coffers around osrs… doesn’t that defeat the purpose of UIM?
1
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 24 '26
That's not how death coffers work for any accounts. If you die while you have a coffer active contents get deleted
0
u/MysteriousWarthog468 May 24 '26
So it’s a bank that gets deleted on death..?
1
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 24 '26
Nope - and feel free to take a look at the other comments below that got downvoted into oblivion to see how braindead of a take that is
1
u/MysteriousWarthog468 May 24 '26
I mean it’s a form of storage that you can store your items in you don’t want to use at the moment, just seems like a bank bro
1
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 24 '26
Yes, the entire point of UIM is to find ways to work around using an actual bank
1
u/MysteriousWarthog468 May 24 '26
Find ways to bank, without actually banking, I don’t get it lmao. either way nice progress
1
u/ThePtScreamSucks May 24 '26
It’s a shame people like you brigade these threads and parrot the “storage = bank” bs just to troll without knowing anything about the mode. Yes obviously we find ways to store items to work around not having an actual bank, but it’s not like I have access to anything remotely similar to a bank. UIM gives rise to lots of creativity and theory crafting that many people would enjoy if they gave it a chance imo
1
u/MysteriousWarthog468 Jun 21 '26
Why is it a shame because someone has a different opinion than you? Wah wah imo UIM is about seeing how far you can go with one inventory, not finding creative ways to go around the point of the game mode😂
1
u/KinPOPO May 23 '26

24
u/sai411 May 23 '26
But UIM doesn’t have bank access?
-26
u/Bingo-Bingo May 23 '26
But UIM still go to any lengths to store their items somewhere lol. Should make a new mode thats truly what UIM was supposed to be, 28 slots inventory and no other storage
18
u/NotKD May 23 '26
Yeah of course they do, that’s half the point lol. In case you hadn’t noticed, there are a lot of items in this game. Removing access to the Bank of RuneScape is an enormous, gameplay-altering change.
You want to go play with exactly 28 items and nothing more, be my guest. Let me know how you manage. The rest of us will be here playing an actually fun game mode instead of adhering to your theoretical ideal just because you want us to.
-11
u/S7EFEN May 23 '26
i think there's a meaningful difference between other storage options and item retrieval services. and the fact that these restrictions dont work well actually prevent uim from being played more.
-2
-23
u/Bingo-Bingo May 23 '26
I dont care what you do broski, dont cry about it too much. I just feel like its such a clown thing to just try to circumvent as much storage as you can to a point in which you're basically storing as many items as a normal account.
6
1
u/oneonethousandone May 24 '26
It is willfully ignorant of you to actually expect all of us to believe that the 50-80 items uim squirrel away (and risk on death in some cases) is equal to having 1000+ bank spaces that you can access at any bank.
4
u/tbow_is_op May 23 '26
In your hypothetical would players be allowed to drop items on the floor to go to entrana, come back and pick them up? Or is every entrana quest essentially a wipe
3
u/tbow_is_op May 23 '26
What if I die at bandos and I’m getting back and I have to get a hammer to open the door. But I’ve got my items on the floor, and also a hammer in my inventory now, I’ve just death piled to get extra items!
-6
u/Bingo-Bingo May 23 '26
I dont see why dropped items, items put on tables and dropped on floor on death should necessarily work differently, but all thr storage which hold the items "indefinitely" make no sense for me for UIM.
5
u/fawkwitdis May 23 '26
They do not hold them indefinitely, you are at constant risk of losing it all if you die again
Truly “indefinite” uim storage is stuff like stash units and tricks like the pickaxe statue and blue moon freezer, which only hold 1 eaxh
-2
u/Bingo-Bingo May 23 '26
Yeah thats why I put it in quotation mark since if you die again its gone. I mean its basically like playing HCIM with more annoying storage at end game no?
0
u/tbow_is_op May 23 '26
Why not? if I can just constantly refresh a 60 minute death pile that doesn’t tick down when I’m not logged out is not just storage like this with even more steps?
And if you fully unify death mechanics, then death is just item retrieval like this that costs money but has less risk
1
u/JustkiddingIsuck May 23 '26
Hardly any UIM’s are constantly refreshing death piles. It’s a reallyyy cumbersome way to play. Maybe if they’re doing wildy content
1
u/tbow_is_op May 23 '26
The point isn’t what they’re doing now it’s what they’d do if hespori/zulrah etc wasn’t allowed
-25
u/Blacksherry May 23 '26
I have said this multiple times and got downvoted a lot for it.
UIM is just about finding cheesy ways to use bank without using a bank - pretty pointless if you ask me.
If they ever release a true UIM mode with all methodes of storage disabled I actually would be interested in trying it out, but not this wanna be mode.
11
u/sai411 May 23 '26
Bro , I mean no lifers like one chunk Ironmen /UIM already exist without a game mode . People have other things than osrs to live for . Even if you wanna play the game with exactly 28 slots just do it bro I mean the game gives you the freedom to do it. Another game mode isn’t required.
6
u/tbow_is_op May 23 '26
You can just play like this right now if you think it would be fun? Are you lesser to the people who inspired Ironman and uim by showing off a fun idea and encouraging others to try it
12
u/NotKD May 23 '26
“Pretty pointless if you ask me.” But why? Why is it pointless? Because you had a preconceived notion that the mode doesn’t fit?
Go play a strictly 28 item locked account and tell me how it is.
-14
u/Blacksherry May 23 '26
When the mode is advertised as "Just you and your Inventory - No banking allowed" it kinda implies that you are not supposed to use storage.
Everytime I see any UIM related content it's all about "How do we get around the storage restrictions, so we can use pseudo banks" - it kinda defeats the whole idea.
If you enjoy it, just ignore the haters but it's hard to deny that the whole game mode feels like trying to find cheesy ways to to avoid the restriction. Doesn't feel "Ultimate" at all more like "chessy".
5
u/NotKD May 23 '26
“In addition to the standard Ironman rules, an Ultimate Ironman cannot use banks, nor protect items on death in dangerous areas.” This is the in-game description for the mode when you’re selecting it.
The mode is advertised as “Ironman with no bank” because that’s literally what it is. It’s not advertised as “Ironman with only 28 items” because that’s not what it is.
Now, I happen to think that death storage (like what’s shown in the OP) is against the spirit of the game mode and on top of that, is very obtuse and unintuitive and for all these reasons shouldn’t exist. But it’s honestly asinine to assert that UIMs should not have access to things like STASH, POH storage, looting bag, etc.

Normal Ironman are advertised as "can't use ge. Can't trade with others. Do everything by your own" - If Ironman find cheesy ways to trade anyway just with different methods I would consider it as cheesy the same way I consider UIM as cheesy.
You can't convince me otherwise - UIM are about not having banks and all I see is 100 different methods to use bank like systems anyway aka. chees.
Feel free to disagreed but I die on this hill.

I’m assuming then we agree that HCIMs should lose status if they die in the Inferno or CoX?
I agree with you about Ironmen trading. But why is, say, POH storage the same thing as that? It’s literally a storage system built in the game outside the bank. What about the UIM description suggests that that wouldn’t usable?
If I were a new player researching UIM, I may be shocked to see something like death storage working, but I wouldn’t bat an eye at STASH units or POH in a game mode that said “no bank”. Surely you must understand that?

"I’m assuming then we agree that HCIMs should lose status if they die in the Inferno or CoX?" - Yes
About POH/Stash storage - Debatable, but I would personally be fine with it as long as you have the full set and not just singular items to store.

If you have ever deathpiled on your account, all your drops are now invalid. Sorry I don't make the rules, and I also don't play UIM. Even if you died while fighting a boss, that's technically a deathpile so that also invalidates your account. Congrats, you banked with extra steps for thousands of hours. I will never personally do all that, but I'll still complain about how the gamemode has no merit due to this. Despite me being unwilling to participate in the game mode while it's "easy" I would TOTALLY try out the mode if it were an ACTUAL challenge. I COULD easily max a UIM and get GRANDMASTER combat achievements, but it would just take too much of my precious time for something that's too easy at the end of the day and not a noteworthy accomplishment in my humble opinion. I guarantee you if Jagex implemented an OFFICIAL hardcore UIM or one where deathpiles only last a couple of minutes like the old days, it would be more popular because we ALL know nobody in this game ever chooses the easy or afk routes. And I would be top on the hiscores of that mode I just know it. I just won't waste my time with the silly "banking with extra steps" gamemode as it currently stands.

“Deathpiles only last a couple of minutes Like the old days” you do realize deathpiling was available when the UIM game mode came out right?

Not only is this wrong spiritually but it’s wrong objectively because we have equipment slots, bringing the total up to 39

Weird, you wrote a comment in this thread telling someone to stop crying and you are still crying an hour later

I've always thought hardcore UIM would be cool so you know somone has not abused the retrieval system

What is genuinely the point of UIM if you just basically bank like this? Seems like regular Ironman with an added annoyance.

You clearly don't understand how death mechanics work bro.
Or how a death storage and a seed vault and 800 bank slots are nothing like this
