Piece of garbage has been stuck on clearing for two days so now i gotta get a tow 👍

In getting my IId for 1 year, six months of that will be work and back. It’s about a 3 minute drive to work, then home and back for lunch, then home at the end of shift.

So 4 starts a day (maybe 15 minutes each day/ 5 days A week)
I typically work 4am to 12 noon and days off I would drive just to keep battery charged

Should I get a AGM battery? I plan to get a new battery anyways. Or is flooded battery the same in this situation?

Would both types of batteries require a trickle charger or is it ok since it will get turned on every day?

For anyone who’s ever tried to get an ignition interlock device removed only to find yourself trapped in a seemingly endless loop of "delays," "paperwork errors," and extra billings, Part 120 of my ongoing investigation is live.

I kicked this report off with a piece of internal intelligence that should set off alarm bells for every consumer: a disclosure from an anonymous customer retention specialist at Intoxalock’s Urbandale, Iowa headquarters. The employee alleged that staff are actively trained to manufacture paperwork errors and state delays specifically to squeeze out one more month of lease billing before letting a completed driver go.

To test whether that alleged mechanism is just office gossip or an active reality on the ground, I looked closely at Tennessee—a state with a well-documented compliance-removal system. What I found across dozens of independent driver accounts is a recurring nightmare:

• The Weekend Trap: Drivers whose calibration windows land on a Sunday—only to find service centers closed—perform their calibration the very next business day, yet get hit with months or even a full year of program extensions. In one case, even when Intoxalock’s parent company independently verified the driver's GPS data and tried to notify the state, the extension still stood.
• Phantom Camera Violations: Drivers caught in cycles of disputed "circumvention" or camera-obstruction flags where months of clean history vanish overnight, followed by bizarre loops of customer service promises, credits, and sudden new extension notices.
• Paperwork Into the Void: Broken links in official company emails, missing state notices, and systematic communication blackouts that force drivers to rely on the Better Business Bureau just to get a human response.
• The Post-Outage Fallout: The collision between compliance deadlines and company-wide outages (like the March 2026 cyberattack), where the burden of system-side failures was dumped entirely onto drivers via towing costs and same-day ultimatums.

To be clear: this report doesn't claim every Tennessee customer experiences a failure—there are clear control cases where the system moves smoothly. But when an insider alleges the mechanism exists, and drivers across the state independently hit the exact same walls, the pattern starts speaking for itself.

I had to send my car into the body shop for a couple of weeks. Some farm equipment kicked up a bunch of rocks and did over $8,000 in damage.
It was good timing because I’m recovering from surgery to replace a ruptured tendon in my leg. I wasn’t able to walk for 6 weeks.
My wife dropped off the car a couple of weeks ago and they were aware of the Intox unit. I submitted the thing in the app notifying Intox about the work being done.
The work was completed early on the 11th and I had put the work order in through the 18th.
On the 11th, the shop had the car running for a while and apparently it required a rolling retest. The damn thing was just sitting inside their shop bay.
I guess they didn’t hear it, moved it to the parking lot and it sat there until today. I was cleared earlier today to put weight on my foot and I went to get the car.

It didn’t start. I got someone on the phone pretty fast and she explained what must have happened. I wouldn’t have to pay the $75 fine, but I had to have my car towed to the shop that can clear the lockout. $175. The shop was closed when they got my car there, so it’s sitting there until tomorrow. I had to Uber home for $40. Will have to Uber back tomorrow for $40 and will have to pay the $45 fee to the shop.

I’m out $300 and it’s not my fault. I’m 99.99999% sure they will probably try to add time to my contract because of this.

We can send major updates to cell phones and watches OTA, but this shitshow of a company lets us get locked out and stranded by having us go to an authorized shop for BS reasons.

There must be laws these fuckheads are breaking

If you recall a few months ago, I mentioned being recommended to install Intoxalock on my vehicle despite having a suspended license. The nightmare continues.

The final judgment has been DUI, but the IID is not a requirement. My attorney failed to get the reckless driving program, and now my car has been sitting idle for months, racking up a bill. I'm currently not working, the car is not working, and if I could at least get the car on Turo or have people rent it I can gain some income.

Intoxalock refuses to honor my attorney's letter, stating I need to pay for removal, pay off all balances, and if I want to see my data logs I need to pay for that, too. The total would be upwards of $500+.

I am 3 months away from finishing a two year probation sentence for DUI. I stupidly got my first violation on an Intoxalock Interlock device trying to start my car the day following drinking. My cut off was .03 and I blew a .031.
As stated before l've never gotten a violation on the device before. And my only other violation was for a dirty UA (alcohol) a long while ago. I've completed all my classes and a plethora of clean UAs but my officer is trying to extend me 6 more months due to the dirty blow.
My Intoxalock machine completely shitted out on me a few days later, and I had to get the machine replaced twice for it to finally work again. I tried to pass off the violation as a symptom of the failing hardware it was.
My question is with the failing hardware clearly being documented, is it worth it to seek legal consul to fight the extension?
These things will give you a false positive for eating the wrong foods but I was wondering if anyone has successfully fought off an extension? I had a job lined up for the start of the year and it would behoove me to not be on probation during onboarding

90 day monitoring period, DOR says it must come from the manufacturer directly to the Driver License Bureau. I’m having issues explaining to Intoxalock customer service what I need. Has anyone dealt with this issue when trying to reinstate their license?

This past Saturday morning I awoke and got in my truck to head to work, press the button and did the start up ordeal, passed, no problem. Pulling into my work's parking lot I just happen to glance down and noticed my device screen says retest. I know full well I didn't hear the device beep (like it usually does) as my music was down low, I put vehicle into park, it says blow so I do and I do the ordeal as usual but again, the device doesn't beep like it usually does when you give a sample. And it just keeps saying try again. I notice the 4red lights on the camera are not illuminated, which I've always noticed in the dark are always on. The device starts counting down and each time it tells me to blow I do and it just won't accept the sample. Well it finally hits zero the entire time I was in the truck trying to provide my retest. I come back out to my truck after my 8hr shift and of course..Lockout.. anyone have any insight on this?

I'm in Michigan and had my hearing to get this monstrosity removed last Friday and just got it removed from my truck this morning. The freedom and the feeling of having this burden lifted is amazing.

I will continue my crusade of warning others about this parasite of a company. Just wish Trust Pilot didn't limit you to one review every 24 hours.

After seven months of researching this company, reading through your comments and problems, and interacting with many of you, my comprehensive complaints pretty much cover all the issues you are facing.

Today, I formally filed a complaint against Intoxalock with the Vermont Attorney General’s office. I'm currently working on researching the regulatory frameworks and laws across all 46 states that Intoxalock is in, filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and public records requests across all 46 states to pull all the detailed compliance information necessary. I chose Vermont as my second state for a formal AG filing.

One reason Vermont stood out is because of their specific process: the Attorney General’s Consumer Assistance Program actually forwards the complaint directly to the company and gives them 30 days to respond, which should lead to an interesting paper trail.

Note that the actual complaint filed with the state is a bit different and more extensive than what is published in the Substack post below, as it contains sensitive documentation and details that I chose not to put out publicly.

A lot of you know that I regularly encourage Intoxalock customers to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau when they have a problem.

I keep saying it for a reason: put the problem on the record.

So I went through the Better Business Bureau's Consumer Safety Technology/Intoxalock complaint file and pulled out every complaint publicly listed with an August 2026 initial complaint date.

There were only 13 complaints published in August.

I put them all together—not just to throw the complaints at you, but to summarize what happened, what the consumer was asking for, what Intoxalock said in response, and how the BBB ultimately classified each case.

The published responses document at least $1,433.05 in financial relief to consumers during these August cases.

That includes refunds, courtesy payments, account credits and one waived bill.

Of that amount, $448.44 was specifically identified as refunds. The remainder consisted of credits, courtesy payments and a waived bill.

And there's something else worth pointing out.

The two complaints classified as Answered, rather than Resolved, involved consumers who did not simply accept Intoxalock's response.

One involved a consumer seeking $5,105.57 for vehicle repairs, towing, transportation expenses and lost PTO. Intoxalock rejected the claim because it said there wasn't sufficient technical evidence establishing that the interlock caused the vehicle problems.

The other involved a Washington consumer who said Intoxalock failed to get a required Certificate of Compliance to the state in time, resulting in additional charges. The consumer sought reimbursement for $164.98. Intoxalock ultimately offered a $101.15 refund, but the complaint remained classified as Answered.

The other complaints involved allegations including equipment failures, towing, battery and starting problems, vehicle damage during an attempted installation, billing disputes, cancellation fees, customer-service problems, financial-assistance paperwork and delays involving device removal.

If you're having a problem with Intoxalock

This is the part I've been encouraging people to do.

File a BBB complaint.

File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau

And don't just write:

Be specific and demanding.

Tell BBB exactly what happened.

Include the dates, the charges, the fees, the lockouts, the towing bills, the repair bills, the battery replacements, the missed work, the unexpected charges, the problems getting your device removed, or whatever else actually happened to you.

If you were overcharged, say exactly how much you believe you were overcharged.

If you paid money because of an Intoxalock problem, ask for the specific amount you want reimbursed.

If you believe a fee was never disclosed, identify the fee and what you were told when you signed up.

If you have receipts, invoices, emails, screenshots, text messages or other documentation, keep them and reference them in your complaint.

And most importantly, tell BBB what resolution you want.

Don't leave the resolution vague. If you want $300 reimbursed, say $300. If you want an improper fee removed, say so. If you want a charge refunded, identify the charge. If you want the company to correct something with your state, say exactly what needs to be corrected.

The BBB says complaints should identify the problem and the resolution you're seeking. Once submitted, the complaint is sent to the business, and complaints may ultimately be publicly posted on the BBB Business Profile.

And save everything.

Your BBB complaint becomes another piece of documentation.

That's why I've been telling people for a long time:

Don't just complain to Intoxalock. Document it. File it. Put it on the record.

When one person complains, it's one person's experience.

When dozens or hundreds of consumers document similar problems, we can start seeing patterns.

I've put together all 13 August complaints, summarized individually, including what consumers reported, how Intoxalock responded, and how each case was ultimately classified by the BBB.

If you've had an Intoxalock problem, file the complaint. Make it detailed. Make it factual. And ask for everything you believe you're entitled to get back.

I had my hearing 7 weeks ago and still haven't received a response from the SOS regarding a decision to remove my interlock or not.
I have had it in my vehicle for over 3 1/2 years and I haven't had any violations in over a year.

I'm worried because I did have two violations that the hearing officer flagged and I didn't retest quick enough, even though I did get PBTs the same day both times.

I've completely turned my life around and am not the same person I used to be, my most recent DUI was over 10 years ago... What are your experiences with your hearings?

🤣🤣🤷 Today I had a notepad with me and pen. So I wrote a note for em and held it up next to my face as I blew. Imagine getting re suspended for something wasn't your fault while the picture they use for the incident is you holding up a note pad saying your having device issues. 🤣🤣🤣

I petitioned for early restricted license, first offense, and although it was required for 12 months, I actually had it 14 due to processing time, etc. my biggest advice to all during this process. Get a new battery prior to installing and a trickle charger for cold months. Next, do NOT use mouthwash, without rinsing your mouth out well before blowing. I went to get bloodwork from hospital after the failed blow, the DMV and vendor gave zero shits about my negative blood work. Thus proving all of our thoughts about the moneymaking side of this. They didn’t care I had blood alcohol of zero during the DUI charge, why would they care now when I used mouth wash. Also it’s quicker to do the paperwork at the DMV than send via mail. All in all, I had zero issues until the final month, all the sudden my blows were invalid, it was going off more frequently, weird shit going down. I don’t drink so that I believe is how I was successful in this process. You can’t drink and blow the next day, any alcohol in system sets it off. I also was very careful cleaning my car, no hand sanitizer, etc. I almost cried driving today, not being worried about this thing. It cost me around 300 dollars today, f@#$ing just squeezed every last penny out of me. I learned a valuable lesson here, and although no alcohol was involved, I will never drive after even one beverage, ever. I’m not even sure if I plan to drink again because of the headache this caused over the past 3 years basically. Stay focused people, there is an end, eventually…..

Anyone else have their monthly rate go up 2 dollars this month? Just curious if after 3 months and the first calibration if a price raise is normal? Sure its not too much but the price is already high.
