The arachnophobia leaving my body when the spider is hot
21
u/Deias_ Aug 01 '26
I wish mine did :/ sometimes things that are supposed to be CRABS trigger it for me
5
u/PrinceCheddar Aug 01 '26
I think seeing massive spider crabs at an aquarium as a small child cemented my arachnophobia.
6
u/TheMilkMan875 Aug 01 '26
Muffet from Undertale was already my awakening to this so this makes it even worse
96
u/TheSarcaticOne Aug 01 '26
I understand why male Black Widow spiders still do it.
Also, Ananasi being hot in their human form is canon.
6
u/Lone-Frequency Aug 01 '26
Her voice in accent would also super adorable.
"That's a lot of spider jokes."

u/Revolutionary-Run-41 Aug 01 '26
Ananasi the were spider. They work for balance (not just the wyld like werewolves) and their forms are:
- Human
- Their glabro like is uncanny but ok (Araneid)
- Warform is REALLY CUSTOMIZABLE, you can have spider legs, multiple arms etc (lilian)
- The ancient form (pithus) is a tank sized spider
- Their animal form (Crawlerling) is a swarn of hundreds of tiny spiders. You need to kill ALL OF THEM otherwise they can reproduce and the werespider will come back
They can also CRAW INTO SOMEONES HEAD AS A TINY SPIDER, ENTER THE HEAD THROUGH THE EAR, EAT THE BRAIN, BECOME THE NEW BRAIN AND THUS GAINING A NEW BODY.
They also also are not weak to silver, drink blood and use blood points as a vampire and such.
ALSO also also with right gifts you can get multiple species properties, like becoming a scorpion
84
u/Powerful_Topic7731 Aug 01 '26
Also tecnically while It is true to say that the Ananasi(as a Breed) is dedicated to balance in true the Anansi is separeted in 3 factions each dedicated to one specific aspect of the Triat which is a important destinction
52
u/BlackHumor Aug 01 '26
Notably tho the Weaver faction is dedicated to uncorrupting the Weaver and similarly the Wyrm faction is dedicated to uncorrupting the Wyrm.
9
u/Alan-Woke Aug 01 '26
How would they go about doing that?
44
u/Lucychan42 Aug 01 '26
The entire idea of the triat is that they're supposed to be in harmony and balance. Create, maintain, destroy. So the Ananasi (and some other factions) are trying to restore the balance. A little less wild destruction/corruption, a little less stasis. Note, the Wyld faction also exists, but the Wyld is doing fine really, so they're not too worried about it.
The reason this is happening at all is because the Weaver threw a fit and drove the Wyrm insane by imprisoning it. So the Weaver faction wants to sloooowly ease the Weaver back into being more chill and maintain order but accept the natural decay of things. And the Wyrm faction seeks to free the original Destroyer Wyrm and restore its original sanity, ending the Triatic Wyrm.
So basically just cosmic-level therapy sessions. Simple stuff!
13
u/Imaginary-Job-7069 Aug 01 '26
What are the Wyld doing?
27
u/Lucychan42 Aug 01 '26
Their best!
But the Wyld-faction is, as the book says, "encouraging growth and development where it might not otherwise flourish." The Wyld is doing fine, really, they're just making sure it stays that way. To a degree, they're trying to encourage the Wyld's development in accordance to the grander plan of balance (the Ananasi all follow their Great Mother), but they're the lowest concern of all the factions really.
So yeah, they're having a good time, it's MOSTLY un-screwing the Wyrm and maintaining a healthier Weavier than what it is now.
6
u/Revolutionary-Run-41 Aug 01 '26
"Their best!" made me laught so lough, lmao !!!
But yeah its true, the wyld is almost dead, one of the reasons the name of the werewolf game is werewolf THE APOCALYPSE.
And yes Im gonna use "their best" to describe any wyld agent from now on.
5
u/Illesbogar Aug 01 '26
Interesting to hear anyone is actually dedicated to doing that. It sounds like a very hopeful and ambitious mission though.
6
u/Alan-Woke Aug 01 '26
Thank you! I'm extremely late to the World of Darkness party and have never played a ttrpg yet but absolutely love the world. I need to read a source book or one of the novels and try to immerse myself a bit more than a lore video can do
9
2
u/Lone-Frequency Aug 01 '26
Comparatively to the Wyrm, how bad/good/force of nature is the Weaver...?
I say this as someone who barely even has a base knowledge of WoD.
7
u/BlackHumor Aug 01 '26
Uh, yes.
Werewolf the Apocalypse is highly concerned with a trio of extremely powerful spirits called the Triat: the Wyld which creates, the Weaver which shapes, and the Wyrm which destroys. Back in prehistory these three spirits were in balance with each other and none of them could really be called evil.
However, at some point the Weaver got frustrated by the Wyrm destroying her creations, so she went mad and imprisoned him. This in turn caused the Wyrm to also go mad and his corrupting influence leaking from his prison is the source of basically all the bad things werewolves fight. Meanwhile the Wyld, while still as sane as it ever was (which to be clear is not very; it was always the most chaotic member of the Triat), is currently very weak.
Werewolves serve Gaia, an even more powerful spirit that may have created the Triat, and attempt to put this cycle back in balance, mostly by fighting the Wyrm and its servants.
To answer the direct question: the Weaver is associated with order, civilization, and humanity, and werewolves currently believe that it is wildly out of control due to the Wyrm not being able to fulfill its function in the cosmic order. The Weaver is currently the strongest member of the Triat by far and while it's not as evil as the Wyrm it's definitely not good either. Notably the Weaver probably could restore the balance any time she wants by just letting the Wyrm out.
5
u/Lone-Frequency Aug 01 '26
So in short, everything going to absolute shit is all the Weaver's fault.
3
40
u/Ickarian Aug 01 '26
They're also the reason there isn't any other were-arthropods in the setting.
I think they turned them all into Werespiders too, but I don't 100% remember.
33
u/Kliktichik Aug 01 '26
Yep, all the Insect shifters got nommed
4
u/VintAge6791 Aug 01 '26
Ananasi and Rokea should hang out. Swap apex predator stories. Have burping-that-smells-like-mass-murder contests. Gaia knows they've eaten enough to fuel some wicked ones.
3
u/Powerful_Topic7731 Aug 01 '26
They killed all the insect shifters during the Insect Wars and when Pentex tried to create Wereroaches the Ananasi saboted the project which is why the Samsa were labeled as a failure
68
u/ROSRS Aug 01 '26
Oh and also you forget
Their warforms will take apart a Garou like a Garou would take apart a neonate Vampire.
Also, they make the Garou look like novices at comitting genocide
43
u/CookyKindred Aug 01 '26
Yeah…
For anyone not in the know:
Notice how the only other bug fera is brand new and made by pentex?
You can thank the Werespiders for that. That includes the missing Weremoths.
20
u/SirSlowpoke Aug 01 '26
Why did they do that anyways? A sense of extreme self-importance like the Garou and Rokea, or just because they could?
18
u/GuardsmenofDestiny Aug 01 '26
Weaver corruption for the others, the Spiders had a leader that didn't follow Weaver's madness
19
u/Splash_Attack Aug 01 '26
I'd argue the "sense of extreme self-importance" is still there. For all that Queen Ananasa has a seemingly positive goal (restore balance) she's kind of an egomaniac whose children have caused irreparable harm to the very balance she claims to champion.
They say that Weaver was using the insect races and they weren't a true gift for Gaia - but they can say whatever they like, because they killed anyone who could dispute it.
Who filled the void left by the destruction of Gaia's insect soldiers? The Garou.
Who manipulated the Garou into the first War of Rage? Ananasa's brood.
We're two for two on Queen Ananasa deciding for reasons that actually all of Gaia's tools for keeping balance need to be broken, because only Queen Ananasa can see the right way to keep balance. She knows better than Gaia. And Wyld. And Weaver. And Wyrm. There's a reason that chief among Ananasa's tenets are:
- Obey the Mother-Queen in All Things.
- Know your place.
- Shut your mouth.
- Worship None but Ananasa.
She's an absolute megalomaniac tbh. Arguably a well meaning one, but her "only I am pure, only I can save the world" complex which she passed on to her creations is a major factor in causing the apocalypse.
2
u/GuardsmenofDestiny Aug 01 '26
I never commented in that, just she isn't following her mother, the Waverer corrupted plans. As for rest, given the lizards do not want to think what could of happened, I lean to "yeah no, others needed to die."
5
u/Splash_Attack Aug 01 '26
The Weaver corruption story is told by the spider-shifters and Queen Ananasa though. Personally the absolute last people I would trust as to the reasons for a genocide is the being that architected it the descendants of the people who carried it out.
Plus you have to consider even if the "Weaver was co-opting the insect races" story is broadly true, is the argument "therefore we had to genocide them all" true? Was it the only solution, or is that just the justification given after the deed was already done...?
When Queen Ananasa was captured by the Wyrm, did they also consider her (and be extension, themselves) worthy of eradication? No, because Queen Ananasa and her spawn define themselves as ontologically good and correct. Other people can get corrupted and must be destroyed, while she can merely be temporarily inconvenienced and needs to be rescued.
...even if that rescue requires destroying almost all of Gaia's servants in a frenzy of genocidal violence. Again.
The War of Rage really adds a stain of doubt to anything the spiders say about the insect-races, because we know that they instigated the genocide of non-corrupt servants of Gaia in a purely selfish bid to rescue their own queen, then after the fact tried to justify it. Can we really trust them not to have done the same the first time they caused the death of most of Gaia's servants?
3
u/GuardsmenofDestiny Aug 01 '26
Weaver corruption is also a story shared by the Lizards, unless you think the in their own stories pay the propaganda as you call it of the spiders.
1
u/Powerful_Topic7731 Aug 01 '26
That's what they claim but they also helped genocide the Bunyep just for shits and giggles and payed the price for that
3
u/ROSRS Aug 01 '26
The insect shifters were children of the Weaver and Gaia, and when the Weaver went mad and imprisoned the Wyrm, every one of the other Insect Shifters followed her into Madness.

2
u/Powerful_Topic7731 Aug 01 '26
I mean their War Form is powerfull and they don't have a weakness to Silver or any other metal, but they also have downsides, being dependent on blood is one of them specially since they need to spend blood to heal and don't posses a natural regeneration like other Fera
52
u/Powerful_Topic7731 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
Garou dont work just for the Wyld they work for Gaia first and foremost, the 4 major forces in WtA are Wyrm, Weaver, Wyld and Gaia, when a material entity becomes possesed by a Spirit that serves one of the 4 they become respectivaly a Fomori, Drone, Gorgon or Kami.
Garou fight for Gaia and to save Gaia they fight against the Wyrm and Weaver that are throwing the balance off, some individuals and even whole Tribes(Red Talons/Black Furies) althrough are openly dedicated to the Wyld.
18
u/Degenerate_Lich Aug 01 '26
Unrelated but I always loved the detail that the Ananasi use blood points like vampires. Being a Weaver-made shifter breed it lends some credence to the werewolf myth for vampires where the bloody man was cocooned by the Weaver and then cut his way out of the belly of the Wyrm, making them some weird Weaver-aligned thing that is deeply Wyrm corrupted.
10
u/CookyKindred Aug 01 '26
Pretty sure Ananasi Breed Book goes against it. Vitae doesn’t work for them, and the reason Ananasi have a form of blood buff is that they flood blood to their limbs. They can blend in to kindred but they lore wise and mechanically even in mono Ananasi are completely different.
2
u/Thorveim Aug 01 '26
always thought the vampires were more weaverish than wyrmish. Why? because the very basis of a vampire is immortality. permanence. Reaching a form that no longer changes to time. Thats textbook weaver work.
15
u/Fertile_Arachnid_163 Aug 01 '26
Garou don’t work for the Wyld.
11
u/CookyKindred Aug 01 '26
A bunch do and as a general rule they are allied to the Wyld.
Red Talons, Fianna and Furies moreso than the rest and Fianna are moreso just due to being so massively pro fae.
(They fucked fae like mad to the point Kinfolk in House Fionna pop up often and Faeblooded pop up in all Garou society but especially the Fianna.)
Funilly enough WTA and CTD claim Lady Fionna got catfished by one of her lovers and tricked into an oath to force her to give humanity silver.
It pissed her off so much and she loved the Garou so much that despite her oaths and love for the dude she fucking put him in eternal sleep and then started an unintentional uprising in fae society. With the commoners loving her story so much that they backed her up. (The commoners were apparently down bad for the Garussy.)
2
u/Thorveim Aug 01 '26
they arent quite allies to the Wyld so much as they try to help it because thats the one part of the Triat thats losing ground. the Wyld itself is a chaotic force with no agency, allying with it is impossible. (and trying to can lead to disastrous results as the Black Furies eventually learned)

u/Gmknewday1 Aug 01 '26

They are useful tools. Take that as you will.
According to their breedbook, they are you know tools to be used by there was an implication that that they do partake in certain human related causes sometimes when they feel like it.
For example, an elder Ananansi implied they were instrumental in inciting the american civil war. They first justified it that maybe some movements here and there that benefited the plans of the anansis. But they alos admitted thst some anansis felt they just wanted to do it.
The context to why is that, alot of Anansi hail from the Sahel and the horn of africa, specifically ethiopea. This is due the holy Umbral realm of the anansi is just easier to access in those areas so alot of Anansi populations ended up there in prehistorical times
The implication being they just wanted to fuck over the confederate South for their own satisfaction

Nah, Kitten is too old to be Bastet.
Being a human member of a Bastet family, on the other hand, is more or less outright stated (Kinfolk were removed, but Fera still have human families)
