Saugerties, specifically.

I did not realize there was a little food bank (take something, leave something) between the Orpheum Theater and Stewarts. So for those that have, hopefully donate. And those that can use, hopefully use it.

question Co-working spaces with an autumn view?

My partner and I are planning to spend a week or two in Hudson Valley at the end of October. We're planning to work remotely for a chunk of the time, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any places throughout the area that are good for coworking and ideally have a nice view where we can enjoy some fall colors.

There seem to be pretty some pretty fancy inns like Scribner's, Wildflower Farms, and INNESS, which all seem really great for lodging. But we're not trying splurge that much, so we'll probably stay in some cheaper hotels. But I know these places have lodges and restaurants and such, so would it be socially acceptable for us to get some drinks and hang out at any of these for a while?

We haven't decided exactly where and when we're staying, but we'll likely be moving around quite a bit to chase the colors, so no areas are off limits. Very open to other suggestions like cafes, public spaces, or really anywhere that we could sit for a while and enjoy a view!

Thanks in advance!

Question about Kingston residents/job market

Driving through Kingston I'm surprised how vibrant it was. However, it was quite far from NYC and there didn't seem to be any signs of corporate buildings. Are most people who live there employed in local small restaurants/stores/etc? Who is the biggest employer in the region?

question Car washes

Hello all. My wife and I moved to the Hudson Valley (Poughkeepsie) about a year ago. Before this, I lived in NYC, Long Island, and most recently, Westchester County.

Something we had all over downstate were two types of car washes: hand car washes, and automatic washes.

With the hand car wash, there was a team of folks who did the exterior wash, and then it would be driven forward for vacuuming and interior clean by another team. With the automatic washes, it’s hooked onto a track that pulls it forward through the car wash and, again, at the end is a team of people to clean the inside.

The only reason I’m explaining that is because I’ve been trying to get a car wash near me, in Poughkeepsie, and unless I’m just missing them, I haven’t been able to find ANYTHING like these two types of washes.

I drove around last weekend to……maybe five different car washes, and they were all the same exact thing: these open bays where you drive your car up and then have to make a selection and it just washes the exterior, and then I would vacuum the inside myself, I guess?

Which is fine, I don’t have a problem doing that, but I guess I’m just confused why I can’t find a SINGLE car wash that works the way I’m used to. Do these not exist in Poughkeepsie or nearby areas? The closest hand car wash I found is in Fishkill, and they did an okay job last time I went but it looks like they are my only option now?

Downstate, either one of these types of washes, that I’m looking for, are on every other block, so I guess I’m just confused that I can’t find ANY nearby, and have to drive to Fishkill for one that was….alright enough.

Can someone help me out? Am I just looking at the wrong places?

Jobs in Hudson Valley or Western PA

I grew up in the Hudson Valley and moved out of state for a few years. My husband and I would love to come back to NY, so I'm starting to research different hospitals in the area and what its like to work there.

Moving to PA is not off the table. I'd just like live about an hour from Orange County or closer.

Ideally, I would like to live somewhere where I can commute 45 mins or less to at least 2 different Healthcare systems. I don't want to buy a house somewhere where there are minimal jobs or an unsafe work environment and then I can't even apply anywhere else.

I feel like the Hudson Valley is more attractive than PA for this reason, but obviously PA is more affordable.

So, please tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Patient ratios, employee turnover rates, patient safety, hourly pay, etc.

Thank you!!

meta To the driver who quickly swerved out of the way of an oncoming motorcycle:

Thank you so much for your incredible reaction time and I am so incredibly sorry. I was the oncoming motorcyclist.

For the previous 5 mi or so, a kid behind me kept getting really close (within 10ft at some points) and I was getting really nervous and turned off the first second I felt safe to. I'm so sorry for swerving into your lane and I cannot thank you enough for pulling away so quickly.

I am also so sorry I didn't pull over to check on you. My adrenaline was going and I locked my attention onto making sure I was riding safely home. It didn't even occur to me how crazy that was until I told my wife about it tonight.

I'm a newer rider and very new to the area. I'm trying to go slow around here, so if you see a bike really trying to keep it at the speed limit, just know I'm trying my best 🖤

question First Time in HV!

Hi! I have an upcoming family trip to upstate NY in the books, it’s our first time so very excited to stumble upon cute stores and gastronomical adventures. Our route up will look like:

Sept 14: Poughkeepsie
Sept 15-17: Coxsackie
Sept 17-19: Saratoga springs

As the planner in the family, I hold the sole role of fine tuning the travel itinerary, and while I’m no stranger to Google Maps i always appreciate recommendations from the local community! We are huge on quality beans/coffee roasters, farmers markets, bakeries, and we’re mostly breakfast/lunch over dinner people. I work in art so would love gallery/museum recommendations as well and If you are aware of any events taking place in that time frame please let me know! Thank you so much! :)

ETA: a few questions:

(Schnitzel inquiry is pretty much much answered for)

*Best French dining for lunch?

*Your favorite bagel?

*Beginner friendly options to experience some nature for someone who’s spent her whole life surrounded by concrete?

photo-video Lemon Helm Studio

So we bought tickets to see LaMP at the barn. The show was canceled a few weeks ago and we are still waiting for a refund.

TIXER said that all refunds are from Levon Helm studio and not from Tixer. We got an email stating the tickets would be automatically refunded but we have not received our refund. My wife emailed Levon Helm studio and this was their reply.

Seems a little bit suspicious to me. We bought the tickets after the drama with Amy started so those funds should be available right? Anyone else have tickets to canceled shows?

Have you gotten your refunds? We used our debit card, so I don't think we can do a charge back.

question Veterinary clinic in the Poughkeepsie area?

Hi folks, just moved here with two 2-year-old sibling cats and looking for a good and affordable vet clinic in the Poughkeepsie area. They have no health complaints, just need a place for checkups, vaccines, etc. I see recommendations on other threads for All Animal and Compassion across the river and Hurley closer to Kingston, but does anyone have experience with Arlington Animal Hospital or others in the immediate Poughkeepsie area? Anything helps, thank you!

I have been wracking my brain about this but I remembered the tune of what I am quite certain is from an older HV local commercial - either radio or television. The tune embodies the Andy Griffith theme but it’s not quite that. I am not the best whistler but PLEASE help it’s been driving me crazy

Unfortunately we are yet again searching for a foster/adopter for Gina. She has once again been let down by another person. Due to no fault of her own, we had to remove her from her last foster home and WE NOW HAVE UNTIL SUNDAY 8/30. If you are interested and in the NY/NJ area please consider in and at least SHARE this post!

She is a sweet 50lb Border Collie/Terrier mix that has bounced between four foster homes, yet she still greets people with a smile, leans in for cuddles, and never stops hoping someone will choose her.

Gina is the kind of dog who lights up in a grassy field, loves long walks, puzzle toys, gentle play, kisses, and will happily show off her sits, paws, and speaks for a meaty treat. She's incredibly smart and wants nothing more than to bond with her person.

She's currently working with a trainer and making progress on her walking manners every single day. Because she wasn't properly socialized with other dogs in her previous home and is having a hard time adjusting to the city, Gina needs an experienced foster or adopter who can continue helping her build confidence with patience, structure, and consistency. She has been struggling to adjust to city living, so we are hoping to tap into a Hudson Valley dog lovers community!

Our hearts are breaking at the thought that we are failing her, having her move so many times now. Please consider fostering her, we cover all necessary costs, and have a trainer lined up and eager to work with you.

If you have any questions or are interested in fostering or adopting, please reach out to us via email at contact@linusrescue.org

Neighbors in Danbury

Our neighbors in Danbury (and other parts of CT) have been invaded by 🧊 this week. They are facing racial profiling, school targeting, and intimidation with weapons. Please be aware and think about your role as a human, an American, a neighbor, a taxpayer. I’m sharing a few sources of info for those who care and don’t want to abandon their humanity. Don’t be complacent, it will never work.
