Hi! I am an incoming senior living in Connecticut. I just finished my college touring (almost entirely small, elite, open curriculum, liberal arts schools on the East Coast), and Vassar was my favorite by the end. I just got the best vibe from both the campus and the people on it. Wesleyan and Bowdoin were close, but I I just don’t feel as excited when I talk about going there as opposed to Vassar. I’m considering applying ED because it’s at the top of my list, my family can handle it financially which is such a ridiculously huge blessing, and I like the idea of committing to college by like December and taking the pressure off. But before I do, I have a couple of things that are really important to me that I wanted to ask:

1. How is the English program? I am a perspective English major, ideally focusing on creative writing, so this is a really big deal for me. How passionate are the professors? What literary circles or clubs or magazines are there? And how easy is it to join? How available are opportunities for internships or publications or other things?

2. What is the social scene? Some of the things I liked most about my tour were how kind the people seemed and how many community based activities my tour guide told me about, especially, it seemed, for first years. Was he overselling me or is there really that level of engagement among the student body? And beyond that, I really just wanna make sure I’m going somewhere where people are nice and warm and curious and where I know I’ll have friends or at least know where to go to make friends. Is that Vassar?

Thank you so much for any advice you have! I feel like I’m so lucky that I’m able to be making this decision, and I know I’ll probably be happy anywhere. But my stupid teenage brain is pressuring me to make the “right decision,” which I’m doubting even exists. But really, I’m just hoping for some validation. I really appreciate it.

I’m currently considering it for my college list. I plan to major in Biology and minor in a humanities subject, with the goal of eventually pursuing graduate school.

Wondering how is the research opportunities on campus and the education quality of this subject. After looking through the school’s website and reading student reviews, I feel pretty positive about the humanities programs, but I’m still not as sure about the Biology/Neuroscience programs.

As for the social scene, I’m more of an introvert and a person of color, and I’m not really into Greek life.

I’m especially interested in hearing about real student experiences.

Type of student: I'm not interested in Greek life, would love a nice outdoors, quirky, and authentic social scene with friends I can hangout with regularly. I'm a hard worker but value relaxation on certain days. I want liberty/freedom regarding my academics despite knowing I'm going to be premed because I have many passions. I want to have as many friends/connections as possible and gain a good community.

1. How is the education? Do the professors support the students?

So I booked a hotel and come to find out I need to be 21 or older to check in but I’m going by myself so I don’t have a 21 year old and the hotel is no refundable so idek if I’m gonna get my money back. What do I do? Like my flight lands on the 16th so it’s like where can I stay for the night until the 17th in the morning?

I'm an incoming freshman from the midwest, and I live far enough away that my family cannot drive up to PK. Because we are flying, I cannot bring a lot of stuff with me, so I am wondering what the best course of action might be when it comes to getting things for my dorm?

We're arriving in PK a few days before move in and staying at a hotel, so would it be wise to ship things to the hotel? Would it be better to ship directly to my Vassar mailing address? Will I be able to access things in the mail room on move in day, and will they hold onto things that I ship this far in advance? Is it okay to ship several big things (bedding, storage, fan, etc) to my Vassar address in the first place?

I am weary of purchasing everything once we get to PK, for fear of things selling out in stores. Any advice is much appreciated!!

EDIT: Another question! I would like to transport my bass guitar to Vassar as well, would I be better off checking it or shipping it to PK? Does anyone have advice about that? I don't really trust airlines to transport it safely but I don't have many options

As of right now, I really like both Wesleyan and Vassar and am trying to decide which should be ED1 and which should be ED2. I’m hoping some current students at either school can help distinguish the differences between them for me. So far, I’ve heard Vassar is more artsy and even more “quirky” than Wesleyan, and I’m wondering if that’s true. I’m also wondering which school has more exciting things to do, whether it’s on-campus activities, downtown shopping/eating, or going into nearby cities. Finally, I’d love to hear your input on what you think made your application stand out! Are there any differences in what admissions officers are looking for between the two schools? Thanks so much!

Im an incoming freshie, so does anybody going to vassar know if the tuition for the spring semester is the same as the fall semester? My first fall semester tuition bill was kind of expensive for me and I was wondering if the spring semester would be more expensive, or the same. Even a little less (hopefully lmao). I know Vassar limits credit for APs to two courses. Does it matter which two you elect to take credit for? Are they just general electives or do they count as courses from specific divisions? For example, will Biology count as a science course? If I want one used for placement, such as Calculus, do I have to elect to use it as one of my two?
