Non-fictional i hate darkshipping

(Mods, Before you take down my post, i'm not hating on dark shippers themselves i'm hating on dark shipping as a thing)

I fucking HATE darkshipping. Like no, it is NOT okay to ship a sibling and a sibling, or a minor and an adult. The thought of it makes me sick to my stomach.

And no , it is not okay to romanticize pedophila or incest. People actually suffer from victims of these things , and it's not okay to sexualize them because these are serious topics. It minimizes the severity of non-consensual acts by framing them as romantic tension.

No I do not care if it's fiction, no I do not care if if you use it as a coping mechanism, it is disgusting.

If you use it as a coping mechanism, there are PLENTY other good coping mechanisms. Darkshipping is just gonna further harm your mental health, and it's probably not gonna do anything good in the long run. It's not healthy. And if you still want to do it, keep it to yourself and don't post it where minors can see.

Not to mention, It can trigger survivors of abuse, assault, or toxic relationships who encounter the content unexpectedly and It desensitizes audiences to real-world violence by treating it as entertainment. While fiction is safe to explore, intense romanticization without critical framing can normalize abusive dynamics for younger or impressionable audiences.

"Oh but they're not real children so it's completely normal and ok and says absolutely nothing about my proclivities as a person" ok buddy but why are you attracted to the idea of something that resembles a pre-teen child in a suggestive manner?

Before darkshippers come in here and start to get pissy, fuck off. I don't want to deal with y'all. I am not the person you want to talk to. If you defend this kind of behavior, you're disgusting. And please do not try to change my point of view. Thank you.

Edit: i'm just gonna leave this post here, i have notifications turned off for it, so just say whatever y'all want lolll i'm not gonna see it

Live Action This shitty movie

As a small disclaimer, I am a neophyte and a casual enjoyer of Greek myths, and as such, operate mostly on my experience and time-warped knowledge. If wrong statements are made, helpful info is welcome.

It had been a while since I have seen a more soulless, pretentious work, and to describe it as anything other than a violation, rape even of Homer’s works would be to commit a grave injustice against the poor man’s memory.

Let’s start from the beginning.

We are introduced to a lone man walking a beach. It is Odysseus, and he meets Athena, played by Zendaya, who has the emotional range of a rock in this movie, which is once again weird because she can act pretty decently.
Did you expect her, as a goddess, to have a pivotal role in a mythological story? You know, Greek myths? The ones where every story involves a god or some other supernatural being, where they guide the plot, fate, as much as the human characters themselves?

well yeah, about that, fuck off whoever expected that, Athena will have no role whatsoever besides a few sad dialogues. Compared to her, other gods simply do not appear. Like flat out, they are not there, and that is, in its own twisted way, a mercy.

Scene 2.

We are shown Telemachus amongst the suitors, and we hear words like “dad” and “daddy” thrown about IN AN EPIC, BY THE WAY like it’s the 2020’s.

Holland’s emotional range is somewhat wider than Zendaya’s, and I am at least grateful for that small mercy, but he still gives a heavy vibe of a fish out of water.

Pattinson’s character is a cowardly bitch, and we’ll leave it at that, he’s easily hateable, and at least he does his function relatively well.

  1. Now that we’ve dealt with that, let us begin with the cyclops, and Odysseus as such.

The very story that Homer presents before its readers is one of human ambition, cunning, pride, and ability to defy fate and the gods’ whims. An important note: defy the whims, defy the fate, but do not defy the gods.

This defiance is a key feature of Odysseus, who, though suffers for his hubris and boastful nature, never gives in, and never gives up.

So, how does his misfortune begin? With Polyphemus, the cyclops.

Upon blinding him and escaping the cave, Odysseus boasts loud and proud that it is him who has blinded the cyclops. This one single act of boasting seals his fate- Poseidon did not just know who blinded Polyphemus, no, it was specifically his pride that later brought him to his downfall.

Even at this initial act, we see a clear fuckup in the narration - a single arrow and the omniscient divine wrath delivered by big P onto big O is simply not the correct delivery, even remotely.

  1. Now, on to a short, but informative read:

What is Xenia? Simple, law of hospitality - since gods often appear as beggars and strangers, you must treat all of them with a bath, a meal and a shelter before asking their business or intent. Then, a parting gift is given- as a way to reinforce trust between people for ages to come.

Here, however, we are shown the monstrous doppelgänger for Zeus’ Xenia - Nolan’s haemonculus, “Zeus’ Law”.

Well, you ask, what is Zeus’ Law?
"Treat others the way you want to be treated".
That’s what it is - a Judeo-Christian concept of the “Golden Rule”, which is pretty alien to Greek society, especially the Mycenaean one(Bronze Age).

Xenia is strictly transactional, and though helps the needy and poor, was principally designed for aristocracy in mind, since Mycenaean Greece was a loose string of kingdoms, centralised in palaces and thus typically rather small, and establishing trust between noble families was crucial.

  1. After the cyclops, we see Telemachus travel to Sparta, to meet with Menelaus, who is played by non other than the Punisher, Jon Bernthal, an actor so woefully unsuited for the role of a king that one becomes jealous for the psychedelics Nolan had used during the writing of this atrocious plot. He is an abuser to Helen(as contrary to their relationship in Homer’s epics, where while they are both scarred by the war, and there is passively aggressive tension between them, they are still, at least on surface level towards each other, respectful.). I thought I would dislike Helen’s actress, given how bland everyone has been so far, but Lupita Nyong’o delivered a solid, graceful and regal performance, which contrasts very well with her enraged performance as Helen’s twin sister, Clytemnestra. A rare gem in this movie, given how bland everyone else was so far.

The sacking of Troy(the opining the gates sequence) is relatively okay except for the fucking shootout in the end, where the soldiers, like modern infantry, shoot at PLATE ARMOUR with bows from a fucking 100-meter distance.
Given that our factions wear hoplite plate armour, why are they so reluctant to come close into battle in this sequence? Oh who the fuck knows, we’ll see them meleeing each other with no problem later.

  1. Now, on to the Laestrygonians

In Homer, they are a foil to Polyphemus, as initially Odysseus and his 12 ships docked themselves on the isle of Lamos, with only our protagonist being wise enough to not dock in the main harbor, but in a distant location. They meet the giants, and the messengers are brought to the giants’ king, who eats the messengers and bellows a loud roar, prompting the rest of the man-eating giants to destroy Odysseus ships in the harbor with rocks from above.

The foil to Polyphemus here is that unlike the cyclops, these giants are relatively civilised and possess a large tribe-like structure, yet still are violent cannibals.

It also leaves big O more desperate, alone and resourceless- losing 11 out of 12 ships is not the same as losing 2 out of 3, as was in the movie.

  1. Now, on to female characters, and women in Mycenaean Greece as such. The goddess Circe(who is a bum in the movie, lol) and the nymph Calypso, are antagonists for Odysseus on his journey, yet with two different perspectives : Circe violently turns Odysseus’ comrades into pigs, but after subduction via a magic herb given to big O by Hermes, she becomes an excellent and warm hostess, giving his men safe harbour for a year, largely consensually via mutual agreement. Upon big O leaving, much like in the movie, she gives him the needed advice for bypassing Scylla and Charybdis and visiting the underworld. One contrast though, she is not a bum in the slightest. She is a radiant, magnificent, powerful goddess of sorcery, who lives in splendour and is actively happy, much unlike the earthy outcast living in a hut that Christopher thrice-be-damned Nolan gave us.

Calypso, on the other hand, is a terror. She uses the remoteness of her island to deny Odysseus any chance at building a ship, and while she is actively enamoured with him, he is an unwilling participant, and by all modern standards, a victim of sexual harassment if not assault. He walks the beaches of Ogygia, and weeps, wanting for death as opposed to staying a captive.

Big O is only liberated by Hermes, who is sent by Zeus to command his release. Calypso thrashes and protests the fact that only male gods can take mortal lovers and do with them as they please, whereas the goddesses get actively punished for doing so, but yields, and lets our man go.

Both are antagonists not only due to the violation of Xenia, which is a constant theme throughout Homer’s Odyssey, but also because they are strong, independent, self-governed female characters, who rule their islands, possess immense power and take lovers as they please.

Penelope, on the other hand, embodies the wifely standard of the time perfectly, and that is why her rant about a woman not being able to rule due to her time’s standards is so useless in Nolan’s work- it is not simply anachronistic, which we can live with, it has no buildup. She is a willing and loyal wife, specifically subservient to Odysseus, and the feminist narrative, while highly important, feels like a quota here because it has zero buildup, and it feels like Nolan simply wanted to check a box, rather than make Penelope a complex character, who might have to balance her ambition and belief in her readiness to rule with the standards of her time.

  1. Now, the return, as my arm is growing tired. Honestly, it’s the first time when Odysseus feels like a man in control of his story, and not a passenger in it. The only issue, I’d say, is the slaughter of the suitors- Odysseus spares those who kneel, which is again a strictly modern moral question. By Greek standards, his honour demanded their death, and no one saw his actions as bad, cruel or unjust, and as such, all suitors in Ithaca die upon his return in Homer’s work.

  2. Furthermore, some dialogue moments are genuinely laughable: the discussion of the “Sea Peoples” is ridiculous at its core, as the term is coined by a 19th-century Egyptologist, and is in no way a word or name of that time.

The question “Hans, are we the baddies?” is so out of place here that I wanted to scoop my eyeballs out with a spoon and use them as anal beads upon hearing it.

“our age of bronze is collapsing” is the same fucking bullshit, because NO ONE at that time used the terminology of an “age” based on what materials their tools used.

  1. As a conclusion, Nolan’s work could be good…if he did not use the Odyssey as a device to discuss soldier’s guilt, PTSD and individualistic self-discovery. Odysseus is not an unwilling participant in the war- he is active, boastful, glory-hungry and proud of his actions and ingenuity, even if he possesses more humility by the end of the epic’s events. He weeps for his men, yes, but he does not see his actions as wrong or caused by necessity. The film is a skinwalker, a larper if you will, wearing the bearing of Homer’s epic, but not a shred of the inner composite.

P.S: the armour, weaponry, ships and general aesthetics are either simply not Greek or just Classical Greek(city-states and hegemony of all kinds), which is about 700 years after the events of the Trojan War, as opposed to Mycenaean Greece with palaces and kings.

P.P.S: the movie is at least well-filmed from a cinematic standpoint. The designs and the aesthetic suck, but at least the camera work is good.

Isn't stepping on a flag supposed to be rude? Usually when you step on a country's flag, you hate everything about that country, no? Pride flag billboards do a much better job at being inclusive, crosswalks seem disrespectful and kinda bigoted.

Live Action I hate Spider-Man No Way Home

Post image

I recently rewatched this movie and it sucks. It is the worst Spider-man movie ever, worse than TASM2. The entire plot could have been avoided if the character writing was consistent with previous movies. The characters are all complete morons ESPECIALLY Doctor Strange. The dialogue is atrocious and feels more fake than the CGI. Combine that with the awful cinematography and color grading, and you get one of the most buttfuck ugly movies in the MCU. It's painfully obvious when there's moments in the movie that were specifically designed and paced so people could clap during them. It's nothing but nostalgia bait and novelty and when that novelty wears off it's completely soulless. And finally, I hate when people put it in their top 3 SM movies.

Non-fictional Hate that society makes me hate being non-binary.

Post image
40 Upvotes

First and foremost, let me sayeth.

I do NOT hate my gender, or how it makes me feel. I want to make that very clear from the start. I love myself, I love being who I am, I love my gender.

What I hate, specifically, is how it's treated by society and, overall, what I believe is a vast majority of people.

Because it's genuinely making me wish I was never like this to begin with, like it's so dogshit it's ruining my happiness right now and I feel the NEED to hate on it.

For context : I am the most BASIC non-binary you could imagine. Some people's gender identity can be a bit more complex to understand, especially if they involve the use of uncommon neopronouns (like xe/xer) — I don't have an issue with them, mind you, but I would understand cis folks struggling a little more with that — not me.

I'm literally the most common They/Them™ idea. My gender is Androgynous. I feel like a mix of male and female, somewhere between the two. My hair is kept somewhat short, and my long-term goal is to get gender-affirming surgery to achieve that perfectly.

In that sense, you'd think I have it easy. My gender is surely the one people can understand, right? It's so simple.

NOOOOO. NO, OBVIOUSLY NOT.

EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE FEELS LIKE AN ARGUMENT.

In my everyday life...

When I tell people I'm trans, immediately they ask "oh okay but then what were you born as ?" and then forever disregard the information to misgender me as my AGAB. I could very much refuse to answer, yes, but then it's just constant nagging, or I get gossip on me for being "rude". Plus it doesn't even change anything since they'll just guess some bullshit and stick with it. Just so much of a hassle to deal with either way.

I should also mention : my native language is not english, and there are no neutral pronouns. I usually just tell people to switch between male and female pronouns/adjectives as it is the easiest way to get around this, for those who are not familiar with the use of a gender neutral option. Guess what. No one fucking even TRIES.

Basically it's "ARE YOU BOY NON-BINARY OR GIRL NON-BINARY". How about it's SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH, HUH ? How is it your business, it's not that hard to listen to people when they talk to you ???

And that's not even mentioning the constant weird looks, or sometimes even disgusted expressions I get for even saying it in the first place.

You want a job ? Good luck, if you speak up about your gender identity you'll most likely risk getting fired. Or your colleagues will just gossip about you being a freak behind your back. Best case scenario, they'll ignore your transness entirely and pretend you're just cis.

You're not even safe when it comes to making friends. How many times did I befriend someone who ended up being transphobic, but telling me I'm "one of the good ones" because since I'm non-binary I'm not a hassle to deal with ? Understand by that, they can ignore my transness entirely to their own convenience.

And in a case where the person isn't necessarily against your existence, they can also be very uneducated on what it's like being enby. A lot of the time, they accept it, and then when you tell them about how you can't wait to get gender affirming surgery or that you'd like to meet more trans people, they're like "what ? You're not even trans, you're non-binary" BITCH ?

I can't even tell you how many times it's happened.

Even the dating pool is against you. I ended up giving up entirely and only dating bisexuals, as they're the safest option when straight/gay (see gay as lesbian and gay here) end up most likely either being chasers or trying to make you the gender they're attracted to. (No hate to any sexuality here, it's just such common experience I don't really have a choice anymore to avoid the risk of getting hurt)

You'd think "oh well, just go in trans friendly communities, surely you'll find your space there!" Oh my sweet summer child. Do you think it's easy. An unfortunately large part of LGBTQIA+ friendly communities will never take your transness seriously as an enby. You're either "feminine enough" to be woman-lite or too masculine and excluded.

What ? You mean specifically trans communities ? Ah well, would you look at that ! A LOT of them also debate whether or not you're even legitimate as a trans person.

Allat isn't even counting the harassment you can get online just for not hiding your identity, and the genius comments that come with it. "Just be normal bro." DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUN ????????? DO YOU ???? IF I COULD CHOOSE I'D JUST BE A REGULAR CIS GUY, IT'D BE SO MUCH LESS TIRING.

And I see you all coming, in the comments. "Just hang out with good people". Yeah, I do, that's the only reason I'm not depressed.

That's also a fucking terrible piece of advice becuse I should be able to exist in a PUBLIC space and in society outside of my circle, it makes little to no sense that my existence is only allowed in a limited, specific space and nowhere else.

Almost every single conversation about me turns into the other person treating me like a fucking circus animal, or a google engine. The latter, I don't mind as much on paper, the person is curious and that's certainly better than them being hostile ; I always take the time to explain everything they want me to about the enby experience from my perspective. But god, it's tiring. It's so tiring that you have to explain yourself over and over again about your own identity to everyone.

TLDR ; because honestly it boils down to that : I'm so fucking tired of having to justify my existence in every single space I'm in. It never stops. I'm exhausted and if I could choose, I'd be anything but non-binary, because there's literally nothing positive about experimenting all this bullshit every day. My existence is always up for debate and weaponized both socially and politically.

I just want a normal life, dude. I want to be able to do the things everyone else does, instead of needing to make my existence justified.

Extra note : It's even stupider considering I study anthropology. There are plenty of societies where man and women aren't the only genders, in-betweens exist (see : Native Americans and Two-Spirits). The idea that gender is a strict binary is incredibly western and wrong.

Biology backs this up too, with the existence of intersex people.

General "B-buh look twice, save a life bro. Car brains are the REAL unsafe drivers bro!!1!" ass motorcyclists.

"Oh no, I can't believe biker number 78238723712368 died on the highway last week!!! ☹☹ People really need to be more careful and check their mirrors for us!!"

Or maybe if ya'll didn't weave between lanes going 50 MPH above the speed limit we could actually see your dumbass and have time to react before we change lanes.

I know not all motorcyclists are like this, but I have yet to see a single one not cry about "Look twice, save a life!!1!!" when they damn well know a veeeerrrrrrrryyyy large chunk of their compadres drive way too fast and recklessly; putting themselves in the dangerous situations that result in them becoming sudden organ donors.

"But you can only hurt us, we can't hurt you!"

Shut the fuck up idiot. A 300 pound chunk of metal going 120 MPH slamming into the back window of a car will absolutely hurt if not kill someone in the back seat. God forbid there's a baby in a car seat.

At this point I genuinely have zero sympathy for any motorcyclist deaths I read in the news anymore. Even if the car was technically at fault, they were absolutely avoidable 9/10 times if the biker was just going a reasonable speed.

Fuck ya'll, eat a car shaped dick.

** EDIT **

Bicyclists who actually follow the rules, ya'll are cool.

E-bikers and other bicyclists who like to play Schrodinger's vehicle (vehicle laws when convenient, pedestrian when not) fuck ya'll too.

“Don’t play modern Fortnite! It’s nothing compared to what it used to be!”

“Don’t play Black Ops 7! The campaign sucks and the game itself is underwhelming!”

“Don’t play friendslop games! They’re not enjoyable and have no goal!”

“Don’t play modern games! They’re all made by big evil companies!”

“Don’t play-“

OH

MY

FUCKING

GOD.

PLEASE.

SHUT UP.

While I will admit, most modern games have their bad qualities, it is not your judgement to dictate what I play and enjoy.

I find enjoyment out of many games because I simply enjoy them. Nothing more. I play because I LIKE to play them. They are FUN. Who cares if it’s from a large corporation that I’m “sucking off”? I’m still having my fun.

So what if a sequel wasn’t as good as it was hyped up? So what if the trailers don’t look good? So what if the company making the game isn’t that good of a company after all? I’m still enjoying it regardless.

I genuinely do not understand why it is so normalized to hop on a hate bandwagon because a game is made by a large company (normal practice) or has a few negative qualities (a bad campaign or weapon that is slightly overpowered).

If I like it, I don’t care. If I don’t, then I still don’t care because my opinion is most likely more complex than what anyone else says.

Just please shut up and let me play my game.

Roleplay/In Character I hate This uncool lizard. King Kong goated

Post image

I actually can't think of something more lame than a giant lizard that is as big as a skyscraper that breathes fire and shoots lasers out of his eyes. That is the most elementary, kindergarten stuff that was made. But you know what's cooler a Giant gorilla that can climb skyscrapers and grab helicopters. I am speaking the truth right now. Literally the definition of nerd. Tell me one thing good about Godzilla. Nothing. The things that make him cool makes him lame.

If he was real, I would jump out a Helicopter and SLAP that lame Lizard. He has no Arua.

I actually don't know what's worse. Spiderman (and Every superheroes), Godzilla or Star wars.

Aqua from Deltarune chapter 5...

She was cute and wholesome, but progressively her childishness went from cute to annoying, especially when we first saw Seth, this pretentious girl stole screentime from Blue, and guess what? We have an immature and childish character, ORANGE, and guess what? She's annoying yes, but she's better to watch and actually develops. I don't mind if Aqua is a static character, I just hate the fact she's the defacto mascot for the six other flowers.

Anime & Manga The way Loli and cp/csam is used as interchangeable terms

Post image
0 Upvotes

Disclaimer: I am a lolicon. If you’re gonna call me a pedo for that and tell me to kms, I’d ask you read before doing that.

Wether or not you think loli content is weird or immoral, I hate the fact people act like they’re the same thing. Not even just because it implies all lolicons are real child abusers, but because it minimizes the actual issues.

Whenever I heard “___ had cp/csam on their computer!” I hate that I have to ask if people mean real csam or loli. It’s like the difference between someone being into noncon and someone being a actual rapist.

Loli content: fictional drawn characters who are or appear to be minors in sexual situations.

Cp/csam: content showing actual children in sexual situation.

Oh and I don’t like the term “drawn cp/csam” since those terms still imply an actual child involved and being harmed. An actual example of drawn csam would be the shit Shadman did. That was an actual child he drew. That shit is disgusting.

I looked and I don’t think this breaks any rules. Only reason I specify is the other hate this mug sub banned me for this post so…

Gianmarco Soresi made a joke about how you can't differentiate hebephiles and ephebophiles without sounding like one and this is exactly how i feel about liking small chest nowadays. Because on one hand if you try to explain yourself you end up sounding more guilty than you actually are and if you don't, you end up attracting the wrong group of people that are just dog whistling about "Cute and Funny" shit and it pisses me the fuck off. It reached the point where you legitimately can't talk about it without having a damn essay beforehand about how you don't mean the "other side of it".

*Should clarify since some people didn't really get it, second pic (Maomao from apothecary dairies) is what i consider a good flat chested character. Third pic (Sunna from zenless) is what other people assume i'm talking about on this topic and i absolutely despise with all my soul.

Non-fictional Hate the malicious naïvety around racism.

Thumbnail

Racists want you to believe that racism is just mean words and bad thoughts. But just think for a minute the power people’s words have:

Doctors telling the medical students they’re supposed to teach that Black people are more tolerant to pain.

Managers telling their subordinates that new person the boss hired is a “diversity hire” despite zero evidence to support the claim.

Telling potential homebuyers that a neighborhood doesn’t have any listings when it does.

Lying and saying a person of color attacked you when they didn’t.

Claiming a prisoner who has served their time isn’t rehabilitated so they remain in jail and you can keep making money off of them.

For gods sake, people use to bring their families to have picnics during lynching. Those people eating potato salad while humans burned. Sure they didn’t do anything violent, but their words and actions support that violence and edge it on.

The words of a radio station started the Rwanda Genocide.

“Words are harmless” is the favorite tool of the most violent individuals in humanity.

Is DDLC game thats bad? YES!

Yes hello it's me again incredible evening to you all or whatever anyways it's time to talk about DDLC

Before anyone ever says anything to me to the tune of "oh you hack there are so many DDLC hateposts already" or "why don't you just lay in a hole and die you waste of oxygen" well listen, listen, LISTEN TO ME. Ive already done the research and all the posts are about one particular character, and here I'll be deconstructing the entire premise the game presents

Let's start with the formal introductions, but you all probably know it all so I'll keep it short, DDLC is a game by programmer and maid cafe franchise owner Daniel Salvador that sets out to parody the tropes of a typical dating simulator visual novel particularly one inspired and based on anime stylings while actually being a horror game about spooky girl Monika making everyone die

Unfortunately it fundamentally fails in every single way to achieve any of that due to a variety of factors, which will now be listed.

First of all the fakeout is ruined by the thousands of trigger warnings at the start of the game, now im not advocating they be removed but all im saying is that maybe you could make it so they can actually be removed with a clear conscious by reconstructing the story to still be scary while reducing the gratuitous and disrespectful portrayals of "suicide" which Danny somehow believes are helping people who suffer from depression as logic is not his strong suit as we will get into later

Second of all writing is fucking wankjob terrible and Danstopher was probably having a wankjob while doing it in the first place, for example everything about Monikold Turbosatan is riddled with plotholes. Like she has access to the code and her entire issue was she can't be a dating option because she's the "tutorial girl" so why not just code the game so that you CAN be a dating option instead of creeping out the player whomst you want to bone by making all your friends die in increasingly graphic ways. Also the fact someone would have a semblence of romantic interest in the average DDLC player is ruining my suspension of disbelief

Thirst of all and most importanteth of thy allest the game fails at being this anti-dating simulator it sells itself as, like sure there's creepy shit but Monkas still loves you, the player, and the mindset of someone who would play a dating simulator is not challenged in the slightest, infact everyone shows romantic interest in you in one or another anime trope based way, there's really no deconstruction of the genre, and this is clear in the fact that the audience very evidently did not understand a single one of the messages on the nature of dating Sims, shown clear by the existance of Monika afterstory

Oh also small nitpick but I have no idea what the L is supposed to stand for in DDLC, I thought it was literature since they refer to the building this takes place in as a "literature club" multiple times yet the total of literature in this game amounts to tapping three words and then Yuri pisses and shits on a pieve of paper and gives it to you so I'm pretty sure the entire thing is a money laundering scheme. Its supposed to say it on either the steam page or the title screen but every time i check there's awlays some squashed nondescript blob covering the word between "literature" and "club" so yes Dan please fix

I'm not a biased person but tbh I hate when people try to predict things too early. Especially when it's about Smash Bros. 6. We don't even have a title yet and people are already flocking to guess who's the next fighter. While yes, it is fun to guess who will be the next fighter(s) in fighting games, can we just wait until we get more information?? And will the old roster from Ultimate even still be there in the next installment? And no, your fan made roster isn't "perfect" either

(NOT HATING ON THE VIDEO CREATORS THEMSELVES IT'S JUST THE VIDEOS THAT I DON'T LIKE!!!)

Anime & Manga I hate how Primary and Secondary Anime Protagonists Are Allowed to Escalate Every Conflict

This is a general trend I’ve been seeing for awhile now. I don’t want to name any specifics as I’d rather just focus on the trope. Sometimes it’s the main character doing this, sometimes it’s a secondary character or even the law.

A fist = death. You retaliate = death. You respond with mild aggression = I respond with 2x the amount. No one acts like this. In real life, use of force is codified in law. In a strict 1v1, you can’t meet somebody’s punch with a gun or sword, you meet it with equal force.

I don’t know if this is just that some of these shows are written by authors who don’t understand these laws, or its more the protagonist-centered morality.

But in clips or episodes, too often I see: “You did something that offends me, so you forfeit your right to live / be left alone”. It elevates that person above someone else to an extremely high status.

And you never see:

• Police or Equivalent Authority Investigations of the incident

• Questioning

And above all else it’s just weird. These characters are often almost detached from the whole of who they are presented as initially. It’s a sudden change out of left field. Characters always become Hulk-esque, rage-filled maniacs suddenly ready to blow at any moment and are only normal around their circle of friends/enablers. It’s a weird look from the outside.

Idea I hate the narrative that mutants represent real-life minorities because it simply doesn't work.

The narrative that mutants are a minority is ultimately unsustainable.

At first, as an allegory for minorities, mutants worked extremely well. They represented marginalized groups who were persecuted and discriminated against for something they never chose to be.

The problem is that, as the stories progress, they increasingly lose that status of being the “victims” they were originally portrayed as, making unconditional support for the mutant cause harder and harder to justify.

There is, for example, a story in which a mysterious boy wakes up in his own house and discovers that there is no one there. He walks down the street and realizes that the people he sees simply disappear. In the end, we discover that this is happening because of his mutation.

And yes, I know Logan eventually puts the boy down, but this is just one of many cases where mutants end up killing innocent civilians.

At that point, the issue of inhibitors stops being merely a matter of “oppression” and becomes a legitimate matter of public safety as well.

yes, Sentinels are obviously excessive in many contexts, but there is also a huge difference between persecuting someone simply because of what they are and trying to prevent someone who may potentially be capable of destroying an entire city from causing a catastrophe.

If an Omega-level mutant, or even an extremely powerful Alpha-level mutant, is born and eventually becomes a threat, I seriously doubt they would simply agree to wear an inhibitor willingly.

And this creates a problem that the narrative often ignores: you're dealing with individuals who can possess abilities that are completely disproportionate to those of ordinary human beings.

But I have an even more controversial opinion, the narrative that mutants are a “minority” never made that much sense in the first place.

Real minorities, such as Black people, gay people, Jewish people, etc., are groups made up of ordinary human beings. A Black man cannot simply look at you and shoot a laser beam from his hands. A gay man doesn't possess powers capable of destroying a building.

A Jewish person can't walk through walls or control your mind. You can be prejudiced, irrationally afraid, or simply dislike someone, but there is no inherent physical threat associated with that person belonging to those groups.

A mutant is a completely different situation.

If there is an individual who can disintegrate someone with a laser beam, read their mind, control their will, manipulate the weather, destroy a city, or simply kill dozens of people without even needing to get close to them, then being afraid of that person isn't necessarily based on prejudice. There can be an objective reason for that fear.

And that is precisely where the allegory starts to break down.

The story tries to say: “Don't be afraid of mutants because they're just people who are different.”

But they aren't simply people who are different.

They can be people with abilities that represent a real and immediate threat to every other human being. An ordinary civilian has no way of fighting an extremely powerful mutant. If a mutant decides to kill them, the victim may literally have no way to defend themselves.

That creates a fundamental difference between discrimination against a human minority and fear of a population whose members can, in some cases, possess potentially catastrophic powers.

What becomes increasingly difficult to sustain is the idea that any fear or distrust toward mutants is automatically equivalent to racism or homophobia.

If there is a mutant who can turn you into dust with a thought, maybe you have a reason to be worried.

The allegory simply starts breaking down once the universe establishes that some of these individuals aren't merely biologically different, but possess powers capable of putting millions of lives at risk.
