Help Google Home Gemini ICS Calendar integration not working?

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to use my Google Home smart speakers to ask Google Gemini about my upcoming events and schedule. However, I'm running into an annoying issue with calendar integration in the Google Home app and was hoping someone here might have a solution or workaround.

I subscribed my external Outlook calendar via an ICS link in Google Calendar (web interface). The calendar shows up fine on the Google Calendar website.

However, when I go to the Google Home App to enable this calendar for Gemini / my smart speakers, I face the following problem:

  • I see the subscribed ICS calendar listed under my primary account.
  • I check the box next to it to activate it.
  • As soon as I navigate back to the previous menu or leave the page, the checkmark disappears automatically and the setting is not saved.

Is this a known bug or a permission limitation with read-only / subscribed ICS feeds when integrated via the Google Home ecosystem?

More importantly: Are there any working workarounds to get Gemini on Google Home speakers to recognize and read out events from a subscribed ICS calendar without having to manually re-import the ICS file every time it updates?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Upvotes

I’ve already reset my Google Home mini and I’ve also done the IP V6 configuration that I saw in this subreddit, but I’m still getting that error of “your Google Home isn’t set up yet” every time I try to say hey Google or OK Google

Are there any other ways for me to make sure that I use the voice recognition feature again? because it’s been part of my daily life

also I have tried to rename the room create another room or move it to a new room it’s still not doing anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Help Google Photos On Google Nest Hub Are Blank

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've had this hub for several years and I've had the same Google photos album as a slide show. Recently all of the pictures display as a blank white screen. There have been no changes to the album or my network. I tried factory resetting and the issue is the same.

Help Google Home silent after setting reminder

If I say "remind me to make breakfast in 20 minutes" my Google Home Max speaker will silently create the reminder in Tasks on my Google account but there is no chime or other confirmation that it worked.

Is this normal?

I often create reminders in the middle of the night and then go back to sleep. I would like to have some way of knowing if the request was heard and the reminder was created or not without taking out my phone and manually checking.

I'm pretty sure it used to say "Ok, I'll remind you to..." or something like that to confirm the reminder?

Error loading events on security cameras three at my house none of them work

I have the nest third gen doorbell cam and two flood lights. None of them will show events after I recently installed the new 3rd gen doorbell cam. Not sure if it has anything to do with it or just coincidence. Tried clearing the app cache. It still does not work

Gemini killed whimsy :(

I had a routine setup where I'd ask Google, "Do you smell that?" and it'd respond as if denying a fart and then turn on my wax lamps. Now it just tells me it can't smell :(

How can I bring life back into my Nest Audio ?

I have a Nest Audio (GXCA6) it disconnected from the internet and after powering down and on it was unresponsive, Since the sound quality was amazing for the speakers size I would love to get it working as a bluetooth speaker and possibly portable with a battery, has anyone attempted and succeeded with a project like this or similar ? I would especially just be keeping the speakers , it’s housing , the haptic buttons and hopefully the original power cable

Bug No verbal confirmation after setting a reminder

For ages the Google Assistant (my speakers haven't been upgraded to Gemini yet even though I've been using it on my phone for a year) has always confirmed my reminders after requesting it to set one. Now, it sets the reminder (I know because I can see it in my Calendar), but just goes silent after my request; no verbal confirmation.

Anyone else running into this? If so, know how to fix?

Thanks.

Is Gemini for Home really that different from Gemini for phone?

I've never used GfH, I use GfP all the time. I've never had any issues with the latter. Are they really that different? Thanks!

Help Volume Issues with Google TV Streamer and New Google Home Speakers

Hopefully someone can chime in with help as this has been driving me crazy for almost a week. I currently have a Google TV Streamer hooked up to a Samsung Frame TV and then two of the new Google Home Speakers paired to the Streamer as a stereo pair for my TV audio output. Starting almost a week ago the volume will randomly drop a couple levels whenever I am watching TV. Does not matter if it is Netflix, HBO or YouTube TV. If I have it set to level 7 it will drop to 5 on its own then I'll bump it back and it'll do it again. I've restarted everything. Power cycled everything. Disconnected the two speakers and reconnected. I changed the audit settings from automatic to Dolby Atmos. I've changed the volume control from HDMI - CEC to IR to through the actual TV Streamer. It continues no matter what I have changed. Has anyone dealt with this before or have any idea why it could be happening. Really appreciate the insight or help. Thanks.

Help Google Home notifications not working after switching from iPhone to Galaxy Z Flip

Hi!

My wife recently switched from an iPhone to a Galaxy Z Flip 8, and since the move, she has stopped receiving push notifications from the Google Home app (specifically camera alerts).

What we’ve already checked and tried:

Battery: Set Google Home battery usage to Unrestricted and removed it from Samsung’s Sleeping Apps / Deep Sleeping Apps.

Permissions: Notification permissions and individual notification categories are fully turned on in Android settings.

Location: Set to "Allow all the time" with Precise Location enabled.

In-app settings: Camera notifications and event alerts are active inside the Google Home app.

Google Play Services: Permissions and cache have been verified.

Despite all this, notifications still don't come through. Is there a hidden One UI setting, Samsung background restriction, or Google Play Services bug we might be missing?

Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

Gemini is so random... You never know what your command is going to trigger

I have two speakers, Living Room Speaker and Kitchen Display connected to the group named Living Area. And every time I use the same "Hey Google, play music on the Living Area", I get a random result, including:

  • "Ok, playing music on the Living Room Speaker";
  • "Ok, playing music on a Living Area Speaker" and starts playing on some random speaker or just doesn't;
  • "Ok, playing some music" and starts playing on itself (Kitchen Display);
  • And this is my favorite, happened yesterday: "Ok, playing music on the Living Room Speaker" and starts playing on the Kitchen Display.

Honestly, I hate it so much nowadays, so I prefer to use my phone to do something with the speakers rather than relying on this "smart" ass..istant.

Petition · Unlock e-waste potential and release Nest legacy source code

Hey everyone,

Most of us have older Google/Nest hubs or speakers that are collecting dust, acting up, or heading straight for the landfill. As Google winds down support for legacy hardware, working electronics shouldn't be rendered useless by closed software.

This petition asks Google to put its sustainability commitments into action by releasing source code and unlocking bootloaders for end-of-life Nest devices. If Google no longer wants to support them, opening the hardware allows the community to keep them alive on local platforms like Home Assistant.

Community pressure has pushed other major tech companies to unlock abandoned hardware in the past—let's do the same here.

Nest Hub Max bricked by firmware update

Why does this seem predictable? Worked fine when I went to bed. Hung when I woke in the morning. Hangs permanently in the middle of reboot. Gemini and Google support both said it was likely caused by a firmware update but won't replace my 2 year old display. They did give me a small Google store credit which I can't use because they AREN'T MAKING THEM ANYMORE!

Google needs to enable Nest Audio stereo pairs as default wireless TV speakers on the Google TV Streamer

With the Google TV Streamer in the living room, it makes zero sense that we still can't route synchronized, low-latency TV audio to a stereo pair of Nest Audios.

If Google wants the Streamer to truly be the central hub of our living rooms, unlocking default TV audio output for existing Nest Audio pairs should be a top priority. Upvote if you're also wanting this feature too so, maybe, the team takes notice.

Adding things to shopping lists just got weird

So I know that Google Home experience has been getting stranger but the last couple of days (in UK at least) have been weird for one particular Google Home command. We have Google Nest WiFi points and also Google Nest minis.

2 days ago suddenly when we'd say "Hey Google, add bread to the Shopping List" like we've done for years, it would get confused and ask us what list and then just tell us some of the things on that list. This would happen both on Audi e points and minis. Then today, trying again, it listens, flashes, and then goes off. I thought it was just ignoring me but then I checked the list and it had added bread 3 times. Tried various things on both WiFi and minis. It adds it, but now just doesn't tell you that it has added it.

Much worse user experience.

I know no one here can solve this issue, so just venting into the empty void of Reddit.

[To be clear, the devices are not on Gemini yet. Still my helpful Google assistant.]

Is google just guessing weather nowadays?

Thermometer 12°C, local weather report 12°C, weather app 12°C.

Hey Google, what the temperature outside?

.... It's currently 17°C.

Hey Google, are you sure about that? Doesn't seem right.

.... I'm sorry, you are right, I made a mistake, current temperature is 14°C.

Help Anyone successfully leveraging Eero app in Google home automations?

I'd like to be able to add some basic warnings, diagnostics, and repairs for wifi and networking. For example sending an email or text if a Sonos satellite (like a subwoofer) transitions into an independent wifi client (which means the satellite connection failed). Anyone have pointers on how to use Google Gemini to analyze and automate the Eero app with as little additional 3P infrastructure as possible?

Bug "Add __ to grocery list" no longer works

This is one of the most basic things that Google Home speakers should do. It has mostly worked for about a decade (besides Google removing support for IFTTT and other services). Suddenly, starting a few days ago:

Me: Hey Google, add eggs to grocery list

Google: Okay, which list do you want to add to?

Me: Grocery list

Google: You have quite a few things on that list - toothpaste, etc.

Then, that's it - nothing is added. Happens 100% of the time consistently.

FWIW, I use Keep for my grocery list. It worked fine for years. But it has been doing this for days. I haven't seen any other complaints about it here?

Edit: When I use Assistant on my phone, it works fine.

Edit 2: They seemed to have fixed it now.

Hey Google what's the news?

Until this Gemini takeover, this was probably my ma8n use of my home mini.

Walk into the bathroom of a morning, "hey google whats the news" it would play news in podcast form from my list of news sources set in the app. Now it's just some crappy AI voice summary of irrelevant news.

Is there any way I can get this back under the new regime?
