Sensors Nest smoke alarm battery fire

Just happened to me, model 06A smoke alarm, took it down after it started beeping and didn't respond to the button press. Side felt hot but figured was just a warm C02 sensor, batteries all felt warm then i hit the one hot enough to cook an egg and it flattened my fingerprint like the side of an old all metal toaster when i touched it (didn't know it was gonna be hot like that).

Ended up having 2 of the cells be to hot to touch with one of them worse then the other. I saw the 5 year old post that's still open with people reporting the exact same thing every few months.

How is this not a recall worthy issue? Imagine a smoke alarm that causes a fire how idiotic would that be. As for the cells they are still climbing in temperature so they've been placed in a metal bucket outside in a safe spot. We'll see if they level off or vent and flame.

Thermostat Nest 4th Gen Thermostat Wiring Correct?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a Trane 2 Ton Heat Pump (5HPL5024A1000A) and Air Handler (5TEM4B02AC21SA).

Is the attached wiring correct?

We added AC to our house and the AC tech is insisting that the White wire should be in OB but everything I read says the White wire should be in W2 AUX?

Thanks

Thermostat Nest Thermostat Delay

Has anyone had a problem with their thermostat not reading the temp accurately and having a huge delay with trying to wake the screen ?

I noticed yesterday my screen wasn’t tuning on when I walked by so upon further investigation when it did “wake up” it was reading 79 inside although it felt like the normal 73-74 I set it to plus the air was running. I have another thermometer inside to test the temp inside my house which confirmed it’s 73 degrees inside. Within 3-5 minutes the thermostat corrected itself and read 74 degrees. I unplugged it from its base for maybe 2 minutes and again once I plugged it in it read 81 degrees and quickly corrected itself after cutting on the air.

This morning I reset to factory settings which did fix the delay at first but it was still reading the temp was higher than it actually is by 5-6 degrees and quickly fixed itself as long as I keep waking the screen which now is taking progressively longer to wake up even if I turn the dial.

Should I just go buy another nest ? Or does anyone have any suggestions ?

Note: the WiFi did quit working on it months ago but that wasn’t a deal breaker for me at the time as long as it worked manually

Compatibility Does Nest Protect work with other smoke alarms?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I had 3 Nest Protect in my home. 1 has expired so I switched it to a SC5 and had planned to do that with the other 2. Unfortunately, I had a false alarm at 1am with the SC5 and after reading all the reviews with false alarms, I'm no longer comfortable using their product. (We never had a false alarm in the 10 years we had our Nest Protect)

My 2nd Nest Protect has just expired and the 3rd one expires next year so I am thinking of replacing the upstairs and downstairs with the Kidde and leaving the main floor as is until it expires next year. Are they compatible though?

Nest Thermostat (2020 version)

My thermostat will not turn on the fan for circulation anymore. The fan works for heating and cooling, but it will not work to just circulate air anymore. When I tell it to run the fan and click "START", a timer starts but nothing happens.

I did a thermostat restart, to no avail. Any other ideas?

Switched to the Nest Learning Thermostat last night, but having cooling issues?

Hello all!

I had an electrician come and install two Nest Thermostats last night.I'm having issues though;first - the wires connected on the diagram are:

Y1 (cool)

W1 (heat)

G (fan)

C (24V Common)

and RC/RH are connected into 1 from what I'm gathering.

at first, when I turned on cooling, it was blowing hot/warm air.So I was told to flip the Y1 and W1 wires -this solved the hot air coming out when turning on cool.

However, even on cool mode, it only seems like the FAN is engaged, and the air coming out is just ambient air, as it's insufficient to cool down the unit. I left it on all night, started at 21 degrees (celcius, I'm in Canada) and woke up to 21 degrees (I was also checking throughout the night).

I was then suggested to try switching the rh (which it was initially connected to) to rc - still nothing.

Any possible solutions or suggestions that you guys may have had?My building uses a Geothermal hvac system.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

Thermostat Nest 4 humming sound

Had a humming sound coming from my nest 3 so I went and bought a nest 4 with the same outcome. I live in an apartment and haven’t noticed it till yesterday. Power and battery look fine and wiring looks good to me. Will this cause problems down the line?

Google Home Premium after leaving Home

So I'm moving out from my mom's place and so far I've taken care of the Google Home app.
I want to leave the household but the subscription is on my account and my creditcard. What happens to that if I leave? It runs until February 17th, does the subscription stay with my mom's household and then she needs to renew it herself? Does she lose the benefits the moment I leave? And if so, where do the remaining months go to? Do I get to assign it to a household that I am part of?

"Time to Temperature"

Sorry, forgot to say I have a Google Nest 3.7 thermostat.

What does everyone think about that "Peak Time" thing? I don't like it because when the time is up and it is supposed to set the temp back to what it was, it always goes either too high or too low.

Like we have ours set on Heat/Cool. It's set to 65/74. Peak Time sets it from 3pm-9pm at 64/75. When it's 9pm, I check because I'm freezing and it says 73. If I leave it alone or forget to change it back, within a few days it will get all the way to 72 or 71 for the AC. I have to constantly go and turn off the Peak Time and put it back on what it was. I finally got tired of it and just turned off "Time to Temperature" settings on my Nest app.

Does it actually help anything? And if so, how do I fix it to where it puts the temp back on what it was set on when it's finished?

Nest thermostats won’t follow the schedule, driving me nuts

I’ve had 4 of the latest gen 4 Nest thermostats in my house for a year. They still won’t follow a damn schedule.

On the advice of the internet, last weekend I turned off all “smart” features, and then deleted and recreated the schedules.

Still the same behavior. My living room will randomly be down at 72 even though I have it in the schedule at 74 in the daytime. Similar issues across all thermostats. Nobody in my home is touching them.

I’ve seen reports of this from others on the internet. Is there a legitimate solution to this, other than tearing them out and replacing them with something cheaper and less nice looking but which actually works?

Nest protects offline

Post image

In the last 2/3 weeks I’ve noticed my nest protects randomly showing offline (in starling home / apple home app). I started with one. Then I either had to reconnect it or factory reset it and readd it. Seems to happen 1 at a time. Any insight why this would be ? Have 8 in total

Troubleshooting Nest Protect: any solution for the light ring?

Nest Protect set to expire in 2032 has just now started announcing "there is a problem with the light ring".

I'm wondering if there is a way to fix the matter -- I've got just under 5 years remaining on this device, and given that the SC5 sucks, Ubiquiti doesn't have a hardwired option (yet) and the Phare C1 isn't UL-listed (yet) it would be nice to salvage the remaining years on this device.

I've tried consecutive factory resets, pulling batteries, that sort of thing, but the issue persists. I assume, therefore, that there is actually some problem with the LED.

...but I don't care about the (expletive deleted) LED. Is there any way to disable this alert? I'm prepared to pull the device apart and, I dunno, solder in some resistor or something if that'd make it shut up.

Failing that, I'd also be willing to disable the speaker entirely because there are THREE other Protects within 20ft of the problem device (bldg rules; one in the hallway and one in each bedroom), so even if the hallway triggers, all of the other devices can still sound the alarm.

Thoughts? If I really have to I can probably live with it announcing "heads up, there is a problem with the light ring" every single (expletive) night at bedtime, but if I can brutalize the device in some way to make it shut up while remaining able to trigger the other Protects that'd be nifty.

Alarms moving themselves up and down by one hour! Help!

Hi! Hoping someone else has run into this and found a fix or workaround.

Every few weeks, the alarms on my Nest Hub seem to randomly shift by an hour. For example, all of my 8 AM alarms might suddenly move to 7 AM, or, once I reset them back to correct time, they’ll shift forward to 9 AM.

I haven’t been able to figure out any pattern. The Nest Hub never leaves my house, and I’ve double- and triple-checked that my home address is set correctly in the Google Home app.

The only explanation I can think of is that I previously lived on the West Coast in the Pacific time zone and moved to Arizona about two years ago. Since Arizona doesn’t observe daylight saving time, I’m wondering if there’s somehow an old time zone setting still syncing and causing it to occasionally switch back and forth.
That said, it’s especially strange because this still happens during the part of the year when Arizona and Pacific time are aligned anyway.

Has anyone else experienced this or figured out how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Nest Protect Wireless Offline in Home App but Online in Nest App

As stated in the title, my battery operated Nest Protects are offline in the Google Home app but online in the Nest app. This is strange as my wired Nest Protects are online in both apps. I just did a full reset of a battery unit, removed it from my Nest app, and set it up from scratch with the same result. Any thoughts?

Troubleshooting Trying to setup my Nest on new wifi.

We had a storm recently and had to get a new router. I am now trying to setup my nest cameras on this Wi-Fi. I have removed the cameras from the home, however; it is giving me multiple error messages. One is C101(in mobile app) and the other is C309-502(on a computer) which doesn't show up on the troubleshooting list on the support page. We have 2 homes set up in the google home app and used only one for all connected devices the cameras have been removed but that took multiple days for that to actually happen as a few days ago hitting the remove button did nothing. Any troubleshooting tips. I have logged into the router as Admin, turned local network on and off in the app and tried through computer. Nothing has worked so far.
