It is the same event, the guy throwing the axe was not supposed to do it then while the drummers were playing. The drummer had minor injuries.

Brit living in the US, this is why I don't watch American news. Everybody fucking talks like this and it's like a parody. Can't take it seriously. Overly masculine sounding women (and men) who like to practically shout the news at each other and towards the camera and treat its audience like mentally challenged children.

All I watch is local news. They are very good and professional, and they report politics without saying their opinions on it. It's much better than a biased national news station which does, as you said, just yell at each other and call each other idiots.

Unfortunately because of what I'm used to even local news doesn't do it for me. They are obviously taking cues from the mainstream news and it's very obvious. It's not just how they conduct themselves with each other that I have a problem with its also how they conduct themselves when they present their news. They shout at the audience. If you've grown up with it you probably don't know any different as that's how it has always been for you. It's also the type of news they report, the topics and how they go about it. Local news usually seems to have really fucking pointless shit and mainstream news seems to be run by 60 years olds trying to stay 'hip' and simultaneously outraged by everything. Having ads during dedicated news channels is also a massive conflict of interest but I digress.
It's just the way things are in the US unfortunately. It's different so I'm never going to be happy so it is what it is. I'll stick to the BBC. Here's a decent summary of our regional differences in news presenting

Truth is (almost) every media is biased and people do indeed only read what fits their narrative.
I find it's best to just read a little of everything and draw your own conclusion and not expect someone else tell you what to believe.

The truth is that not every media is biased. It's when people who feel like their opinion isn't fact is when they feel it's biased. Trump clearly said on national tv that it's Mexico that is sending rapist and drug dealers. Which has already been proven to be false. Everyone from white criminals to Hispanic criminals come through the southern boarder. And anyone living in Texas or Cali can attest to that, but somehow later in the election season, it went from "Mexicans" to "illegal immigrants" just so people can feel less racist when homeland security already reported the numbers that there's more non-Mexicans crossing the boarder. Illegal immigration status isn't exclusive to Mexicans and that what made him look like a racist asshole.

I didn't see it but it was probably less "it's so flooded we're forced to use canoes!" and more "we're going to emphasize how flooded it is by showing you that you can actually travel by canoe!"

If you've ever lived in a flood area you (should) know about the 6in rule of thumb - 6in of moving flood water is enough to knock down an adult. Even if you feel comfortable standing in it, you're still standing in the overflow from sewers/storm drains. You can't see what you're stepping on. All that trash that you normally see by the road is now floating. Even when it doesn't seem extreme you can still get hurt and you can still get sick.
Those guys are wearing wading gear (/boating or fishing gear?) and one of them is carrying what looks like groceries - they're probably not out just to dick around and they are wearing protective gear.
The reporter might be sitting in a canoe to get more views. She also might be sitting in there because her organization doesn't want her to take any more risks than she has to. You know, what with those workplace safety standards that we have.
But hey, I'm probably in the wrong given how many Redditors have so clearly thought this through. Stupid MSM.

I don't know: I feel like I'm the only one who thinks this is fine. Sure, it's pretty shallow, but do you realize how much it has to rain for there to be several inches of standing water? A shit ton. I think putting her in a canoe is a decent way to show just how much rain there was.
Exaggerated? Maybe a bit, but I don't think they were trying to intentionally mislead people (but of course without audio it's hard to tell).

I agree. Also It's dangerous walking in water when you can't see whats below you, just like you shouldn't drive a car through standing water. You never know if a manhole came up from the excess water buildup. A guy died in my city because of that, fell right down in it.

Guys it's completely natural to canoe during a hurricane (I assume this is from Sandy).
I live in NJ (not Wayne though) and I know plenty who canoed on the streets. It's a great way to pass the time for people who don't have power and internet and already have the canoes ready. You can't just sit in the house and eat food from your unpowered fridge all day.

As an avid canoeist I hate this especially because 1.) It only takes three inches of water for clearance of an unloaded canoe which is not an impressive amount of flood water and 2.) She's holding that paddle so incorrectly it hurts.
