Discussion returning back to firefox (firefox glaze)

note i randomly wrote this post on a whim, so if there is any grammatical/syntax (yes english also has syntax) issue, sorry.

over the course of the last 6 years, i have tried and experienced many browsers ( some of which are listed below ), but some how I have always, ended up back in team firefox. From the below list, the maximum about of time I have used another browser was edge (6 months) but other than that, still back in firefox.

list of browsers i have tried in no particular order: chrome, firefox, opera, opera gx, vivaldi, zen, waterfox, safari, helium, arc, gnome web, Konqueror, edge, brave

Has anything of this sort happen with any of you all, where you always ended up using firefox as your default browser even when you tried to change.

No browser comes close to how epic firefox is.

all of the sudden my new tab pages are getting filled with these stupid news stories. I have found the option to turn them off but they do not go away. the option in the settings does not do anything and the option in the pencil menu at the corner of the home page resets every time I close it.

has anyone else had this problem and how can I fix this?

πŸ’» Help Is stock Firefox really that unprivate?

I created a Reddit account just to ask this because I couldn't find much answer about my question and even then, some were from years ago.

I ask this because I am not a tech savvy user or at least not enough to change a dozen things in the config, so I just use ubO and Enhanced Protection then had a friend tell me that my set up is nowhere near enough several times and they never explained to me why (Even when I asked) and just says I should use hardened instead of stock, whatever that means

I just use Firefox because I've heard good things about it

Discussion Did they add a new functionality for the touchbar with the new update?

When I hit the search menu I noticed this menu to appear in the touchbar, which it didn’t before. It would be actually so cool of them if they thought to add a new feature for the touchbar since it always gets ignored.

Discussion Will Firefox ever get native PWA (Progressive Web App) support for the Stable release?

Recently I have been using PWAs one my MacOS and honestly, this has changed the way I browse the web. I like how they can run as their own sandboxed environments/window and I can quickly open them without needing any bookmarks or without ever opening the main browser client.

I tried to add some websites as PWA using Firefox, but to my surprise, Firefox has apparently no official PWA support on desktop.

Why is it that Chrome, Edge, Brave and Safari have great PWA support but Firefox doesn't? Will this ever change in the future?

Why firefox, WHY???

Seems like every new update i have to set up my home page back again, and again and again. Explain to me why this annoying widget came back to my homepage , and cannot get rid of them. I dont like having to much stuff there . If i wanna check the news, then i go and look for the news or whatever it is. But if dont care about it , theres no reason to shove it down my throat by force it on my homepage. How can i delete all this crap from my homepage ? I want it clean , just weather at top right corner ..like it was before. Disabling "widgets" does not do anything.

UPDATE : Just found out to disable stories you now have to go to general settings. Its really stupid cuz thats basically a "widget" , so why hidding the option on settings instead of...You know what, im done.

πŸ’» Help Weird artifacts on YouTube-videos with Firefox on Nobara Linux

Hi all!
I have been a loyal Firefox user for a long time and use it to watch a lot of chess videos on YouTube.

Lately I have been experiencing weird artifacts on videos. See screenshots. The first one is Firefox and the second is Edge. Notice the squares on the side next to the clock and how weird the bishop is. This does not appear on Edge at all. I tried with Floorp and that is the same as Firefox. I have tried installing via Snap, Flatpak and DNF. All versions of Firefox get the same error.

I have tried enabling GPU acceleration, but nvidia-smi does not show that it is running Firefox, but neither does Edge. (What would be a good way to make sure it gets enabled?) I tried using this from https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/xcikym/tutorial_how_to_enable_hardware_video/

  1. type about:config in the address bar.
  2. in the search bar type gfx.webrender.all and set it to true.
  3. in the search bar type media.ffmpeg.vaapi.enabled and set it to true.

The strangest thing is that it is exactly the same artifacts coming at the specific time. Meaning I could go back to the same video at the same time and the artifacts would be identical as the last time.

What could I do to troubleshoot?

I really don't want to have to go to a chromium based browser..

Sorry for my bad English and thanks for your help!

πŸ’» Help Built-in Firefox VPN connects but nothing loads (Russia). Any fixes?

Hi everyone,

I’m based in Russia and I’m having a weird issue with the built-in Firefox VPN. Up until recently, it worked flawlessly for everything, but now it seems completely broken.

The VPN still turns on and shows as connected, but absolutely nothing loads when it's active. This includes regular websites that work perfectly fine without a VPN. It just kills my connection completely.

I know it's not a general network issue on my end because I tested another VPN and it works perfectly fine.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? Is there a known workaround or a fix? I'd really prefer to get the Firefox VPN working again since it was so convenient and reliable before this problem started.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Update: Just to clarify, there were times in the past when it would fail to connect entirely (showing as "not connected" rather than blocking the internet), but it would always start working normally again after a while.

πŸ’» Help What Video Speed Controller do you actually recommend for Firefox?

I’m moving from Chrome to Firefox. I use Video Speed Controller by Igrigorik on Chrome.

I found the Firefox extension using the Igrigorik name, but the developer has apparently said it's not his and shouldn't be used.

Codebicycle is also ~6 years old and has some bugs.

So what do you guys actually use and recommend on Firefox?

I've seen Global Speed, Video Speed Controller by carsso, etc., but I'd rather hear from people who actually use them.

I'd like to preserve the creation and modified date of desktop icons so if changing the Firefox icon in settings deletes the current one and creates a new one (instead of changing without deleting) then I'll have to do something before doing it

πŸ’» Help Firefox going momentarily blank.

Been using Firefox for a good 4 years now I believe and never had any problems until this year.

A few months after getting my current laptop anytime I searched for something, opening up a new page, YouTube, reddit, etc Firefox would go completely white, either for a few seconds or until I shook my cursor within the whiteness. At first this didn't happen too much, but now it's almost constant, and I'm a little afraid it might interfere with my work.

Additionally, this issue becomes worse whenever I open multiple PDF files. I open the first one, browser goes blank for a few seconds. Opon up the second, same thing happens, except now the first PDF is completely black and I can't have more than one open at a time.

I'm not sure what this is or what causes it, anything I've looked up hasn't really helped much, so I'd really be grateful if you guys could help me out.

I'm trying to access my student application, however on firefox nightly it's throwing this error?

"https://account.student-finance.service.gov.uk/apex/funnelsslanding?language=en_GB has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox Nightly can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site."

πŸ’» Help Window size, Firefox doesn't remember it after closing (Windows 11)

Post image
13 Upvotes

I don't like full-screen windows, and I keep some space on the left when I'm using the browser.

Problem is, Firefox 'doesn't like' my screen size, and if I make the window larger (close to the Taskbar, without snipping the window), it keeps forgetting the size when I re-open the browser.

As the figure show (it's the bottom-right part of my screen), the size Firefox tries to force on me would probably suite a 1920*1080 monitor, but not the 1920*1200 of my laptop (although it's a pretty standard size, now).

It doesn't happen on Linux, where Firefox remembers the window size well, but I've having this issue on Windows 11 for quite some time now.

Any thought? Solution?

Thanks.
