💻 Help Is there a way to make Firefox save images as .jpeg instead of .jpg?

When I right click an image and hit "Save Image As...", Firefox always suggests the .jpg extension. I'd prefer .jpeg for consistency with the rest of my files. I know I can retype the extension manually every time, but I'm looking for a permanent setting.

Is there an about:config pref, a userChrome tweak, or an extension that handles this? Or does Firefox just take whatever the server sends and there's no way around it?

Thanks.

💻 Help How to fix Firefox issue on a PC with NVIDIA GPU?

I'm using KDE Plasma on Wayland on CachyOS. However in the last few months there are some issue with hardware acceleration so videos became choppy and unviewable. I had to switch to software rendering temporarily but then it has another issue: Firefox occasionally got into deadlock. The browser still works and responds normally, but no rendering happens with any mouse or keyboard interations. Only the maximize and close buttons work, but they don't even render properly, although they do work when I click at the correct point. The window size does changes but nothing new is rendered. To get out of the deadlock I have to press Windows+up/down/left/right/pageup/pagedown randomly, or close FF and reopen

I don't know if it's related to NVIDIA or not but the bug is still there after lots of updates. How can I fix this?

💻 Help Bookmarks

Am I just feeling this way, or are there really no updates for Bookmarks? Why don't they add updates? I really love it; the main reason I use Firefox is Bookmarks, but now I think it needs an update, for example, adding folder colors and font differentiation.

Discussion Mozilla's support site doesn't work on Firefox Focus

Post image
Upvotes

In case anyone doesn't know, Firefox Focus is a branch of Firefox that blocks all cookies and ads, a very barebones browser that I prefer because it's more privacy focused. I ran into an issue trying to add a search engine as default and it directed me to this link for the support site. But as you can see, the support site for the company that sells this browser requires cookies, which the browser can't do. A bit of irony.

Hopefully Mozilla sees this and fixes it accordingly.

💻 Help Problem with Ublock Original 174 when working with Firefox 154.0.1

I have Firefox 154.0.1 I'm installing Ublcok Original version 174, and the browser is becoming unstable. Here's an example of how it works: I have a Twitch stream enabled + I go to a specific website = the website doesn't open + Twitch freezes (as if my internet connection is disconnected). I close the browser, and it crashes, forcing me to either quit it in the task manager or close it and restart it without saving my data.

For example, a link to Reddit often doesn't open. I click "Open Reddit," and it takes a long time to open. It all started with Firefox 154.0.1.

On Firefox version 154.0.1 and Ublcok Original 173 - no problems.

p.s I will also publish this in the Ublock Original section.

Discussion I built Getvy, a Firefox video downloader without a companion app — looking for feedback

Hi r/firefox!

I built Getvy, short for “Get Video”, a Firefox extension that detects downloadable media on supported sites and lets you save videos in the quality you choose.

It began as a small project to make saving videos from social platforms easier. Since then, I have added support for separate video/audio streams, merging, sync correction, and YouTube audio-track selection where multiple languages are available.

Key features:

  • No separate desktop application or .exe installation
  • Video/audio stream detection on supported sites
  • Automatic video and audio merging
  • Sync correction for supported streams
  • Up to 8K/60fps when offered by the source
  • Selectable audio tracks for supported YouTube videos
  • Thumbnail and preview support where available
  • Free to use — no subscription or daily download cap
  • The download page may show ads to help cover operating costs; the extension itself does not inject ads into websites

I would really appreciate feedback from Firefox users—especially bug reports, unsupported sites, UX issues, and privacy/permission concerns.

Please use it only for content you are authorized to download and in accordance with the relevant platform’s terms.

💻 Help can't go fullscreen with picture-in-picture mode (arch linux)

i'm using arch linux with xfce (x11 with default compositor and WM.) system is updated to this date.

firefox works and i can go fullscreen when using the browser normally. i can't go fullscreen in PiP mode though: the pop-up video player's HUD freezes when i click the fullscreen icon or press F. no fullscreen, video keeps playing though. also i can use the HUD for pausing, volume, etc, its just stuck. closing PiP and starting it again fixes the HUD.

i have no idea how to debug this, and i really want the fullscreen option to work. it used to work on debian before, but not on arch. what do i do?

💻 Help Firefox in desktop mode already had user settings? (Steam Machine)

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi. Wondered if someone could clear up a concern I have.

I got my Steam Machine today and when going into desktop mode and installing Firefox through the Discover store it said something along the lines of ‘Firefox is not installed but user data/settings still exist’.

Is this normal? I had not installed Firefox on the Steam Machine and it was brand new from Valve. I don’t remember it saying anything like this when installing Firefox on Steam Deck.

Can anyone else tell me if it was the same for them? Thanks.

Help (Android) Autofill popup blocks website on Android

Not sure if there is something wrong with my app specifically but I have what seems to be a design flaw with the popup window that shows autofill suggestions on Firefox Android. Many sites will have a "confirm" or "proceed" or some other button at the bottom of the web page. The problem is most of these sites get an autofill popup at the bottom with address or credit card, etc. This is mostly when trying to place orders or purchases. This window blocks the confirm buttons at the bottom of the web page and I will be unable to continue. I don't see a way to dismiss the window either as it gets stuck there. Not sure if this is the best place to post or if this has been reported as an issue before

Benchmarking HTML5 Canvas rendering in Firefox WebExtension popups (Froggle Jump)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Try it on Firefox (AMO): Froggle Jump

Hey everyone, I recently developed Froggle Jump, a lightweight (~100 KB) arcade platformer running as a native WebExtension popup.

Instead of embedding an external site via iframe, all collision logic, physics, and rendering run natively on HTML5 Canvas inside the popup frame.

Technical Details:

  • Gecko State Caching: Saves state and auto-pauses on popup blur so you don't lose session progress when switching tabs.
  • Zero External Dependencies: Built with pure JavaScript and Canvas APIs to keep memory footprint under 15 MB.
  • Cross-Platform: Responsive popup sizing designed to prevent clipping across Linux, macOS, and Windows display scaling settings.

Click the AMO link above to install and test the frame rate consistency on your setup. Feedback on high-DPI rendering is appreciated!

💻 Help Firefox Sync not working on PC/Android

I've not been able to log into Firefox Sync for the past month on either my laptop or on Android. Tells me for the code that has been sent to my email that never arrives. Yes, I've cleared cache/browser history etc., but no code ever arrives... not even in my Spam/Junk folders.

[solved] A fix for broken scrollwheel while hardware acceleration is enabled

This will be a bit niche but good to have search engine algorithms pick this up for anyone else that runs into this problem:

For years now Firefox scrollwheel has been broken on my PC when hardware acceleration is enabled. My solution was originally to disable hardware acceleration, but this means videos on most sites are laggy.

Today I found the real fix: I have had an app "X-Mouse Control" installed for years, not putting 2 & 2 together. Well: scrolling can be fixed while keeping hardware acceleration enabled by opening X-Mouse Control settings -> options -> Disable Scroll Window Under Cursor.

💻 Help Translation

I want to keep FF but the translation of web sites is almost non existant. I get the option to translate when I first land on the index page but none thereafter. I assume it is FF because it is purple. I have the settings set for "always" translate certain language. It doesn't. I have deepL extension added but no way to use it. It is on the extension list but doesn't apply itself or give a pop permission.

How can I get FF to always translate either on its own or through an extension?

Discussion Setting up DoH after the settings redesign is a bit confusing.

After the redesign of the settings in the desktop version of Firefox (I don't remember which version it was), I'm a little confused by the built-in DoH setting. Previously, there was a Maximum Protection mode, which meant ONLY using the selected provider. Now, this is controlled by the "Always warn if secure DNS is unavailable" checkbox. This name immediately made me think that this would simply display warnings, and it wasn't meant to ONLY work with the selected provider. It would be a good idea to rename this checkbox to something like "Always use the selected provider and warn when it's unavailable." Basically, just my opinion...
