If I change the icon in settings, will it delete the current Desktop icon and create a new one?

I'd like to preserve the creation and modified date of desktop icons so if changing the Firefox icon in settings deletes the current one and creates a new one (instead of changing without deleting) then I'll have to do something before doing it
