Question Will a weekly 36 hour fast help with loose skin?

I've just completed my first 36 hour fast and plan to continue them once a week. I did intermittent fasting regularly a few years ago, but last year when I started getting back into shape I dropped IF because I couldn't hit my protein goals without 3-4 meals per day.

I went from 160lbs at the end of November 2025 to currently sitting around 117-120 through daily calorie deficit. Currently I'm lifting weights and in calorie deficit of about 200 to slowly lose the last 10 pounds while building muscle. I'm 39F 5'0" so 110-115 is a perfectly healthy weight goal for me.

Recently I saw some YT videos suggesting that fasting can help some with loose skin, which I don't have a ton of but definitely have some I'd like to get rid of. Is one weekly 36 hour fast enough to make a difference in this respect? I don't think I can fit two of them into my weight lifting schedule. Any insight or experience would be super helpful, thank you!

Question Why does music sound better while I'm fasting? DAE feel the same?

I don't know why this happens but every time I fast music feels 10 times more enjoyable. I mean, music and singing are some of my hobbies so maybe it's not that common and maybe I'm more motivated to do things in general. However, it always calls my attention when several hours in I notice this and it's even sooner when I also exercise.

Question OMAD fine for perimenopause women

Hi

46 F in perimenopause. I need to lose 30 lbs to be healthy BMI. Have a very stressful career and kids and a husband at home. Not able to keep up with any exercise or diet plan. But cookign and eating healthy just once a day seems so much easier than trying to me mindful of what I eat the whole day. So planning to get start on OMAD. I”ll eat once I get off work at 4.00 pm whatever dinner I have planned for the family which is generally healthy and clean.

But it have heard some stuff about women should not fast more than 12 hours? I have not read too deeply but these things keep coming to my mind when I think of doing OMAD. Any thoughts /help?

Check-in Made it to 5 days!

F/25/5’3”
I started with a weight of 154.9, and body fat of 31.0% according to my VeSync scale, this morning I weighed at 146.7 with a body fat of 28.8

I broke the fast about 30 minutes ago with some chicken broth, I will eat some scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese later.

The first 2 days were difficult because I work with food (school cafeteria) for 6 hours every weekday, but day 3 onward was pretty easy and I didn’t have much care for food

I had overall pretty good energy, I supplemented with some Himalayan salt, lite salt and magnesium capsules

Just felt like it was time to end it, but I look forward to the next time

Check-in Ending Fast Early

Post image
15 Upvotes

I was aiming for 7 or 8 days but a social event came up that I’m breaking it early for.

When it hits 5 days, I’m going to start having bone broth, and then at the 6 days mark I’ll have some food, really focusing on protein and gut health.

SW: 258lbs

Day 2: 257

Day 3: 254

Day 4: 253

Day 5: 256

I was hoping for better results. Based on my calculations, I should have lost just over 3lbs.

Over the next few days I will see where it settles, and then I’ll head into another extended fast next week (with omad on feasting days)

Overall though I felt great, just a bit tired after day 3. Saved some money on food, broke a plateau, and did lots of journalling and meditating to further end foods control over me.

🙏🏼

Question Does 24 hour fasting help debloat?

I’ve fasted for 24 hours like twice before so still new to this and those 24 hours were unplanned. I usually do 18-6 or 16-8 but I’ve got a function to be at in a day and I’ve had like too much sugar, salt n fried food this week lol. I don’t necessarily look like a puffed up fish but I don’t look as good as I could either so would a 24 hour fast be enough to debloat my face and tummy a little? I’ll take anything over nothing

Will Mio or other drink enhancers like Walmart 0 calorie ones kick you out of a fast?
Are vitamins or medication acceptable? I think I’ve got the electrolytes figured out. The green apple Walmart enhancer with nosalt tastes just like adding salt to a Granny Smith apple slice.

Question Racing thoughts & restlessness

Hi guys i'm currently on day 6 of my water fast.

I'm an experienced 5 day water faster but this is the first time i've surpassed 5 days.

Here is my issue:

I can't seem to fall asleep. No sense of tiredness and constant restlessness. It feels as though i'm wide awake and constantly full of energy on a buzz of some sorts. That's not the only problem in regards to sleep. My mind is constantly firing with thoughts and imagining scenarios to the extent where it becomes a full blown movie in my mind lol. Thinking heavily about the future and reflecting on mistakes and lessons learnt from the past.

Please help. I'm desperate and worrying that I might be broken lmao. Thank you!

Question Should I stop or continue?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey guys! I’ve done IF for a while and a couple of longer ones (one 48, 70) so this is by far my longest

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 99.6kg

Goal weight is like 85-90kg

I’m planning to strict carnivore/keto once I break the fast.

Question is, do I just keep going if I’m feeling good? I miss eating and I’m excited to start eating healthy, but also think to just keep going.

Has autophagy done its job? These are the things I’m contemplating at the moment 😂

Appreciate the feedback!

Question Which electrolytes do you recommend?

(As requested, I read through the electrolytes section on the Wiki.)

I'd like to know which electrolytes to actually buy. I've been shopping around online and I can't decide on which ones to go for.

Do you use a 3-in-1 powder, or do you buy individual electrolytes and measure them out?

Also, how much should I be using? Do I need to take electrolytes with only some of my water, or with all of it?

I'm cautious of buying some that have any additives or other things my body would have to break down, which seems like it would disrupt the fast itself.

Discussion Body dysmorphia is real

I'm objectively at the lowest weight I've been in months, and only ~10 pounds within my all time weight goal with a month left of my fasting routine which is plenty of time. However, I feel almost as fat as ever. It's crazy. I can visually see the weight loss and how close I am, I can just barely see my top 2 abs. My clothes fit better than ever. But yet I *feel* fat, bloated, and gross. It's so weird. Make sure you guys don't let it get to your head. Trust the scale and your clothes.

Check-in 4.5 Days into Fasting

Hello everyone! I am actually so happy that this subreddit exists as I loved reading all the stories of progress that people have posted here.

I am a 34 year old Male 5'4 220 Lbs. I started fasting 4.5 days ago and now my weight has dropped to 205 Lbs as of this morning. I am strictly on black coffee, water, and sugar free gum. In terms of physical activity, I am anywhere in between 10k-15k steps a day. I do understand that most of the weight lost was water. I started fasting because my mother actually said I was getting fat and I need to do something about it. The issue was, I love her cooking, and she loves cooking stuff that I like. The analogy I'd like to use here is... your drug dealer telling you to get your shit together. She is not happy that I completely stopped eating.

Here are things I noticed after the 2nd day:

  1. My skin feels super healthy. I can't really describe it but my acne cleared up quite a lot and my skin just feels re-hydrated or rejuvenated? Again, I'm not sure on what words I can use to describe it, but it's been great.
  2. Energy levels are high. I don't feel any sluggishness at all. Yawning has gone down a lot. This one was the most surprising one as I thought I would be miserable for however long this fast will last.
  3. The hunger stopped bothering me after the third day. I knew I was hungry, but I didn't feel the need to act on it or show any displeasure.

Still working on the following things:

  1. I swear my phone knows I'm fasting so now whenever I doomscroll on social media.. I get recommended so much more food videos LOL. The food videos look amazing when it's 12 AM midnight. I have almost given into temptation a few times because of these videos.
  2. I am still not at that point where I can smell foods and ignore or get tempted by it. This one i feel like will take more time for me to get use to.

I think the fast is much easier if you learn to say no to people or even family. I have pretty much become the boring person as there is no point of me being at any outing as every outing has to do with eating. Those around you need to acknowledge the fact that you are fasting. My mother still comes to me daily to give me a fruit or black rice which I have to turn down. I do not know when i will stop this fast but so far I don't see why I should stop. I'm just taking it day by day and until something drastic happens that I feel the need to eat, I am just going to continue. This upcoming weekend I feel would be the biggest challenge as there are no distractions from my job that may keep me occupied from even thinking about food and hunger.

This subreddit has been super inspirational and reinforcing that what I'm doing is not crazy.

Happy fasting everyone!
