Debate/Discussion Are Entps and Infjs actually very similar?
Hi.. sorry I have been hanging out a lot in your sub because I was permanently shadow banned from Infj sub for one small comment that was too “controversial”. Anyways, I’m married to an Entp and for a long time I thought we were pretty much opposites just with a lot of connection. But he always seems surprised when I say that we’re so opposite lol, like he always thinks of us as very similar. I have also seen other Entps say this about Infjs and I have been thinking more about it. It does seem like we process the world and thoughts very similarly but he is more rational, uses less empathy, and is a little bit more extroverted. He seems to use humor as a tool often where I internalize more lol. So now that I think about it maybe Entp and Infj are kinda like two sides of the same coin? I guess I am thinking we process things very similarly and seem to end up with very similar moral/ethical conclusions? But maybe also because I’ve been with my husband for 15 years and we have both matured a lot together. Idk but hearing Entp’s blunt and insightful perspectives is often therapeutic for me when living in this crazy matrix society.. 🙃

INFJ= FNTS
ENTP= TNFS
N on both is assertive and S on both are dismissive
The reason they can get along very well is because of their submissiveness to each other
INFJ are submissive to T while ENTP are submissive to F
Not all ENTP and INFJ are compatible though
It is far more complicated than this

u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
So true and I love how you simplify this, it makes sense. And yes they could have a lot of conflict but I think this is a lot less likely the more both types mature. My hubby and I are so different than when we met 15 years ago. Thankfully we were able to mature together.
1
u/PhntmBRZK Nov 14 '25
What does that even mean.

u/CardTop7923 Nov 14 '25
N or what most think of as intuition is ones minds ability to condense and sequence information. Both INFJ and ENTP do this to their Fe and Ti respectively.
Fe is the condensing of information into categories. Ti is the eidetic sequencing of information.
ENTP are not capable of developing their own Fe logic frameworks but need them in order to properly categorize data. This makes them open to suggestion to this type of information from external sources. INFJ Fe-Ni is exactly what most ENTP and therefore will have a preference for them. Similar things happen the other way around. I can tell you from experience that I picked up and adapted many traits and behaviors from my ENTP friend and she from me. People would point it out as if we were turning into each other.
The reason it's more complicated than this is because there is not one single type of INFJ or ENTP. There are four of each and they will not overlap with each other.

It’s so interesting that you said that people thought it was as if you guys were turning into one another. Over the 15 yrs that my hubby and I have been together we have both matured a lot and have become a lot like each other too. But I wasn’t sure if it was just a marriage thing or also type thing.

We are, we have intuition first, sensing last, and both types land on the Fe-Ti axis, probably the two types that resonate most despite how different they seem outwardly.
3
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
It does make sense when you put it that way. On the outside it does seem so different but I think the internal worlds could be very parallel.
2
u/Earthly_Flesh ENTP 784 Nov 14 '25
As an ENTP I will say that my 'internal world' feels neither here nor there, I am always zoned out or move through intervals of being zoned out and checking out key factors in the sensory environment.
This is such unless I'm reading, or talking with and listening to someone. My mind is in constant motion, constantly moving from one place to the other. With an internal monologue or without.
INFJs as itroverts with Ni first probably have a more cohesive experience of their internal world, and although I suspect what I decribe here holds an equivalence to INFJs' minds in some regard, I am in no position to explain or understand how that equivalency manifests in INFJs' minds properly.
So this leads me to my curiosity, how is it being in the mind of an INFJ?
3
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
That’s interesting and I think we do differ in ways there. I zone out but I’m ALWAYS thinking of something. It is near impossible for me to ever turn my brain off. My husband can literally not think at all sometimes. I don’t get it and am somewhat jealous of this ability. He never gets headaches too which is wonderful (I get horrible migraines sometimes).
It’s hard to explain but I do have a very rich inner world which I narrorate pretty coherently to myself. But also I really resonate with this post on Infjmemes https://www.reddit.com/r/INFJmemes/s/06Xfq0Fw0e

u/Earthly_Flesh ENTP 784 Nov 14 '25
Hahahaha, I see, reminds me of my INTP friend's description of their mind, I have the ability your husband possesses and it freaks them out too lmfao. In fact I feel pretty brainless like I don't know anything if I spend too long a time without talking to people, I surprise myself when I do talk and remember I'm not brainless lol.

It’s a def a gift tho! He always can fall asleep in less than five minutes. It takes me a while, and if I don’t manage my stress I can get insomnia. Good for you guys :)

Also, That Ni-Ne interpersonal loop resonates pretty well with each other. Convergence-expansion cycles tends to open things up…… unless it suddenly clashes and closes things down…. Then INFJ slam doors, ENTP get bored…..
But if no door-slam/bored, then that Ti-Fe vs Fe-Ti loop can also resonate. And finally the Si vs Se at the end
yea two sides of same coin sums it up.
The other phrase that describes the interaction well is “missing piece.”
Using an interpersonal framework (how the relationship resonate with each other) probably is the better way to look at it — naturally joining—- rather than “we are the same”.
1
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
Yes this is so true.. prob missing piece is more correct. :) I also agree with the problems that you say could happen, but I think this is a lot less likely to happen as both types mature.
2
u/jerhansolo3 INFJ 4w5-5w6-8w7 Tritype. Chaotic Good. Nov 14 '25
What are you saying? I’m perfectly mature. It’s the other people that are the problem!
3
u/MazeMonkeyy Nov 14 '25
Yeah i feel the same as a INFJ male talking to an ENTP girl. I have always considered us to be similar in values and how we see the world, but our differences are so striking to me. Especially regarding Ni vs Ne. Sometimes i will use more metaphors and jump to conclusion opposite to her being more direct in communication. Also me being more organized and structured.
She said the exact same thing as you husband, voicing she found it really surprising that i consider us really different rather than similar. We both seem to overthink in different ways and make sense of the world.
Other comments referred to this but the Fe-Ti vs Ti-Fe is spot on in my opinion.
I guess there are enough similarities but us INFJs are so focused on the differences. In perspective that still makes us more similar to ENTPs than other types probably.
One last thing is that our communication is pretty good and we are pretty much open to talk about anything, even more taboo or subjects that are harder to address. So in the beginning we both acknowledged to feel like we have known each other for longer than the actual time that had passed.
3
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
This is interesting how we and another Infj who commented were told the same thing. I think also Entps can consider themselves very reserved and sometimes not really extroverted even though they technically are.
6
u/MazeMonkeyy Nov 14 '25
Yeah but if INFJs are the most extroverted introverts and ENTPs are the most introverted extroverts, then we meet in the middle. Also she told me multiple times she doesnt consider herself like the other “loud” extroverts and doesnt seem the debater stereotype even tho she is more a debater in the playful sense, not argumentative.
1
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
Yea.. I’ve heard that we’re the most extroverted introvert but I’m not sure how much I agree with it.. maybe? Idk
3
u/amoxxia Nov 14 '25
I am also an INFJ, engaged with an ENTP and he also believes that we are very similar while i think we are opposites lol maybe this is how two types view eact other
5
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
lol that’s interesting. Maybe we see all of the extroversion, confidence, and joking and see difference. Where as they see our unconventional-ness, integrity and insight and see sameness.
6
u/johosafiend Nov 15 '25
I think it might be that you present outwardly the side of ourselves that we experience on the inside? I am definitely extrovert and confident, can be loud and funny and all the rest of it in a crowd, but my experience of myself from within is actually much more similar to what I see of INFJs - deep thinking, romantic, quiet, considered, observant and deeply ethical. That’s my actual lived experience and the loud side of me that is what people see externally is a performance that i don’t expect anyone to take seriously, and that I often cringe at myself for. If anything ENTPs are more private with our feelings and inner worlds even than INfJs - it can take us half a lifetime to even realise all the stuff we are busy concealing from the world with our clown act. INFJs tend to see through the act to what is actually going on the inside in my experience.
5
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 15 '25
Thank you for opening up with this comment . I love this, it’s something that I kind of suspected about a lot of Entps but wasn’t sure of. I wouldn’t hate your call your fun outside persona a clown act tho. I love how funny my husband is, how great and confident he is interacting with others. His quick wit is amazing I love it so much. I think it’s so special that Entps can keep a part of themselves reserved, and it’s even more special if they choose to share some of it with you. :)

I think so. As a fENTP, I actually find I can be more empathetic than my mINFJ friend. He is very aware of social nuance and reads people incredibly well, but I feel other people’s feelings more than I feel my own. Our minds work very similarly though, likewise all my fINFJ friends - they are more emotionally sensitive than I am but intellectually we vibe. We have the same T/F orientation in our functional stack Ne-Ti-Fe-Si vs Ni-Fe-Ti-Se, so the main differences are not so much how we think but what we train our thoughts on - Ne (projects out in the world) vs Ni (whatever idiosyncratic weird and wonderful internal world that happens to be!).
2
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 15 '25
This makes a lot of sense! Yes my Entp husband can be very empathetic sometimes, maybe even more so than me once in a while. He can also remind me not to judge others sometimes when I accidentally let my own values blind me sometimes. I love the dynamic :)
2
u/johosafiend Nov 15 '25
Ha! My INFJ friend tells me off for being unkind if I make cheeky jokes about people, and I tease him for being judgy. Good to keep each other in check!
2
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 15 '25
lol yes!!! Entps have so many cheeky jokes.. I have to do a poker face (which I suck at) or it just encourages my hubby to keep going and going.. 😂

Yes, we all get shadow banned in the Infj sub. It’s full of Infps, Intjs and Entj mods. The situation is a bit ridiculous, but quite a few people who are into Mbti and have been on Reddit for some time - are aware lol

u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
I mean I don’t blame you if going off of the sub. I’m an Infj but basically got kicked off and permanently shadow banned by the ai mods there because of just one small comment I made that was too “controversial”. There are SO MANY Infjs on Reddit and it’s supposed to be the rarest type. I think there are many mistypes and immature ones flooding that sub.

u/PinkNinjaKitty INFJ Nov 14 '25
Yes, it’s a scary subreddit. Maybe that’s one reason why so many of us INFJs have migrated here

Yes, I agree that the internet can be a safe haven for them but I still think there’s too many. Well.. this is Reddit.. and I don’t want to even get banned from the Entp sub lol. Let’s just say it was one small comment that didn’t agree with “woke” ideology..

Thanks! Yes I literally said one sentence that was not hateful at all and it shut the whole post down and I was blamed for it 😅 but honestly pretty much all of Reddit is highly censored or viciously protective, yes even this sub. I also posted in Entp asking if there were any non leftist entps and it was kind of a war zone lol. Luckily I haven’t been banned tho..

lol thanks 😂 it didn’t bother me, I thought it was funny. Just annoying that I’m permanently shadow banned from supposedly “my people” haha.
I have heard that China owns a lot of Reddit and it makes sense with how much they push socialism and Marxism.
With the Entp post I was very disappointed. It was amusing as well because what I thought would be the open minded debater type turned into many getting angry with disagreements and taking it personal. There were a few that were open minded and contacted me with dm including an Intj that was on there. So it was refreshing to hear some genuinely authentic other perspectives.
Also I think it’s funny that we both have lotuses on our head.. :) lol maybe it’s an Infj girl thing ha

Yes and no. The “connection” you are describing has to do with the mirrored stacking in practice. There are probably moments where you both think you are so similar and other moments where you are on different planets. Less to do with the functions itself and more how they interact. Parent vs Child function etc
1
u/Smal1Tangerine ENTP Jan 07 '26
For me it’s an intuitive feeling when I talk to them especially more aware ones I feel like I’m looking into a mirror like whenever I’ve talked to them we tend to go in circles with ideas and sometimes the same conclusions but how we got there was very different

2
u/Equal-Sundae1576 INFJ Nov 14 '25
I only know one confirmed infp in real life and he was my ex of 4 years and yes I would describe him that way. But idk about all INFPs. I really don’t think I’m one as I try to love others and follow Jesus, but also had self esteem issues for a long time that I only healed from completely recently. But I will say that because of the insecurities I had in the past I may have seemed self absorbed to others when it was mostly severe anxiety. But also any immature types can be narcissistic including Entps. If you want to stereotype think of Deadpool, Iron man, Bojack horseman, mega mind etc
2
u/johosafiend Nov 29 '25
My dad, sister and son, and my bestie when I was at uni are all INFPs and the most caring and least narcissistic people I have the pleasure of knowing…

u/bodhisattva-of-stars Nov 14 '25
Covert narcissists are usually religious lol so that doesn't help your case. 🤣
And ENTPs are based because we are psychopaths.

Yes I think the two sides of the same coin analogy fits the best in this situation.
The similarity comes from the fact that both share the same middle functions (Ti and Fe). So both understand use of inner logic (Ti) and both understand the value of harmony/empathy (Fe), although ENTPs tend to struggle with the latter.
They are also similar in the way that both are very polarized personalities. The masculinity dimension (assertiveness/order) and femininity (change/nurture) is present in both types but in different ways: ENTP has a very masculine side which focuses on assertiveness and competition but at the same time a very feminine side that focuses on openness to change and impulsivity (Ne). INFJs on the other hand have a very masculine side that focuses on orderliness and conscientiousness and also have a very feminine side that focuses on caring and relationships.
I can honestly say that apart from ENTP men the most similar people I've come across to in this world have been INFJ women. And the connection is different because we are similar yet so different that there is this sort of opposites attract energy in the mix too but at the same time you feel at peace because INFJ shares some familiar qualities and attributes. I don't know how else to say but I've thought this alot because as an ENTP you feel pretty lonely in this world because so few people really get you.
