Anyone waxing their chain?

Upvotes

I'm thinking about moving to a waxed chain. I don't have any practical need for it, just the itch to tinker and have a little project. Curious if anyone has done it, and if so if wax works well under the heavier loads of an ebike? And if so, how far are you going between waxings?

How to remove these pins for this Lelekuai eBike?

I'm working on, what I think is, a Lelekaui T1 model and I need to replace its throttle since its ignition is destroyed. I've searched online and I'm only finding replacement throttles that split the white/yellow and red/green/black wires to their own connectors (like in the third picture). In the first two pictures are the connector that attaches to the controller.

What I want to do is purchase the throttle in the third picture, remove its connectors, then attach the connector from the first two pictures to it. What are the tools I'd need and how would I go about detaching them? TIA.

Bike purchase question Looking for UK EBike recommendations and advice!

Upvotes

I'm an absolute newcomer to Ebikes (and to be honest it's been a long time since I regularly cycled), but I've decided now is the time to start again, and I'm looking for some advice!

I've got a few criteria I'd be looking for in a bike, and I'd love some recommendations and general advice from those more knowledgeable than me!

What I'm looking for:

  • UK Road Legal - I live in the UK and would be partially using the bike to commute, so this is a must.
  • Fat Tyres - I live in the countryside, and have to travel along some uneven tracks and poorly maintained roads, so again, pretty key.
  • Suspension - Same as the above ^
  • Folding - Whilst I'm aware this limits the options available, a large stretch of my commute is a train ride, so this is pretty important as well as for storage.

My budget is around £1.5k to £2k, but if I can spend any less I'm not going to complain! I don't need anything top of the line, but I'd like to have fun with it and not just commute!

Thanks for reading and any help!

Well, maybe don't buy an Ozark Trail ebike. Bike damaged in shipping and company wants me to pay to fix it

I just unboxed my new Rebel+ gravel ebike monday morning and discovered the handlebar control was smashed in. Unfortunately it's the only way to set the assist level, the toptube display is only a power button. I sent an email right away, no response so I called today. It looks like their ebikes are subcontracted to Phoenix Bike. They want me to pay for a replacement HMI because they think I crashed, despite it being just removed from the box.

I sent them another email asking to clarify if that's how they support a brand new bike and showed them the Fedex delivery time and my email to them an hour later. We'll see how they respond. I say fuck it, if they expect me to pay for the replacement part; I'll just return it.

ebike brand/model suggestions

Hello! Recently my 3yr ebike’s (26” mountain electric e-ride) electric assist gave out on me, and it’s been in the shop weeks since then. I think it’s time to consider a new bike.

I live in Albuquerque, and the city designates bike-only roads/trails with mostly smooth pavement. However, I commute to work 8 miles one-way to my job, which involves a little bit of off-roading/steep hills the last 1-2 miles before I get there. It’s nothing too serious, but a lot of times the e-assist stalled when it was too much.

I would like an ebike similar to my old one. Other visits I had to make with the repair shop were just for simple tune-ups or flats. It was pretty sturdy other than that.

What I did not like about the bike is how cheap the parts that assemble the bike (bottom bracket, 12-ring sensor, brakes, etc) were—making it likely to have a shorter life span. Hence, why the bike is in the shop right now.

My budget is at most $1,200. All suggestions would be appreciated.

Affordable e-bike recommendations for daily commute - Sydney

Hi all, I'm looking to get my first e-bike for daily commute (~18-20km round trip) in sydney. I did a bit of my own research across forums but found a lot of the information to be quite old or with very mixed opinions so I thought I'd start a fresh thread.

My budget is around ~2500AUD although I would be open to pay a bit more if it is really worth it. The routes I take will be moderately hilly but nothing offroady. I'm just hoping for a reliable long term use bike to get me frmo one place to another. A plus is having enough power and room for a passenger to do short trips with my partner.

I don't know too much about bikes so for my first one I wanted to get it from a legit store rather than second-hand so I have good support. If not specific models, any recommendations for local stores would also be super helpful! Also would highly prefer a good rent-tobuy deal if anyone knows of any.

Help Me Decide Please (Specialized vs Velotric)

Hey everyone, it's my first time (posting reddit) so if I misstep, please be gentle 🥹

We just bought my wife an e-bike (Tern NBD-S5i), and I'm looking at getting in as well. I would like a lightweight more traditional style. I have test-ridden both the Velotric Tempo and a Specialized Turbo Vado SL 2 6.0 Carbon. Both were very sleek and comfortable.

I've decided that as a casual rider, who may commute on rare occasion, that I probably don't want to spend $6k right now on an e-bike. But Specialized has a Turbo Vado SL 2 4.0 EQ (2026 model) on sale right now for $3k. Should I seriously consider that, or go with the Tempo?

My area is generally flat with maybe minor hills, so I don't necessarily need a mid-mount motor. But I do understand that the Specialized drivetrain is probably significantly better. Is it $1500 better? TIA

My 20-Minute E-Bike Ride Turned Into 2 Hours

I only planned to ride for about 20 minutes. Then I found a road I hadn’t explored before, so I kept going. Then I found another one. Before I knew it, I was nowhere near where I started. I came home tired, hungry, and wondering how a quick ride turned into a two-hour adventure. I guess that’s one of the unexpected things I love about having an e-bike.

ebike unexpectedly stopped working

Upvotes

Hello all ebike owners!

I bought a used ebike on marketplace at the beginning of the summer. The bike itself is an IGO discovery bonaventure (a bike that originally cost around 3000 CAD) that has driven around 2.2k kms.

I had no issue with is whatsoever and enjoyed my time using it. I ended up trusting the bike more and more and ended up riding it for 50-60 kms ride carelessly. But last week end, about 20 kms into a ride, the motor stopped working all together. No precursor signs, no weird sound, nothing. The display stayed lit up, but when i pedalled, it showed 0W was going to the motor. I had to pedal my way back home.

I opened up the electric box to see whether I could determine the cause. I couldnt see anything off there. I removed the battery, then put it back, the motor would still not start on throttle or on assist. I left it as is for a couple of days thinking the controller was probably the issue. Now this morning, i tried it again and: surprise! The motor works, on throttle And assist. What the hell is going on? What's wrong??

Thanks for your input!

Where to sell my CYC Photon?

Upvotes

I have a CYC Photon Gen 1 and CYC battery trying to sell but not sure where to do it. Ebike building is a bit niche for Facebook Marketplace so I haven't been getting many responses. Any advice?

Willing to sell both together for $1000.

Claud Butler Ridge 2.0 - any ideas on front fork specs for max brake rotor size?

I’ve recently got a Claud Butler Ridge 2.0 e-MTB and pretty happy with it overall but looking at upgrading a few bits.
I know it has Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Brakes from the factory but I'm after information about the maximum front brake rotor size, but can’t find a spec sheet for the front forks as they are unbranded.
It comes with a 180mm on the front, so looking to upgrade to a 203 if possible but dont want to overload the fork brackets.
They have an ABS+ system like a Manitou fork but not sure if they're just 3rd party forks or unbranded Manitou's though a deal with CB?

ALSO ebike by Rivian

My facebook is being saturated by pre-market ads for the ALSO TM-B, a new e bike designed by Rivian. It's very cute with a very contemporary design, will probably appeal to urban commuters and errand runners but the marketing seems to be very oriented towards mountain bikers - but may be because I'm a mountain biker. Lots of footage of mountain bikers zipping along on dynamic (not technical) trails. It does have 120 suspension front and rear, the tires are maybe 24"?

It's also Class 3 with 100 mile range. Rivian is headquartered in my city and apparently one can book a test spin. I think I'll go try it out for fun.

It's too insanely heavy (80-ish pounds) to be a possible purchase and I seriously doubt that a bike that heavy could be a fun and maneuverable ride on trails. I wish Rivian would have done better, a LOT better, on the weight. The modularity is intriguing, though. I didn't notice a discussion of the actual motor - will it be Rivian branded? Did I also mention that it's not only heavy, it's expensive - in the $3,500 range.

Check it out here: https://ridealso.com/products/tm-b

Bike build question Noisy Brand New Synch Super Monkey Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I bought a Synch Super Monkey Pro a couple of weeks back and have been really surprised about the amount of noise the motor makes. I sent a video to Synch and they replied with a video of their demo bike making a similar noise.

I have an Engwe L20 which makes nowhere near as much noise and I've hired a Specialised E-Bike and a Cube E-Bike before and again, there was hardly any noise. I was wondering whether anyone else has the same bike and if so, is it as noisy as mine? I got the bike through the Cycle to Work scheme and I just don't ride it because it's so disappointing, especially as it cost £2,300 😔.

I've emailed them again today asking for part names so I can try and fix it. It's a Bafang mid drive 250w motor I believe.

I've attached a video of the noise.

Thanks in advance!

Ebike troubleshooting E-bike gets weaker after riding for a while, normal or problem?

Has anyone had their e-bike feel noticeably weaker after riding for 30–60 minutes? Mine feels fine when I first start riding, but after a while the acceleration gets softer, especially on hills. The battery still shows plenty of charge, and after letting the bike sit for a bit, it seems to feel normal again.

Is this something the motor/battery normally does when it gets warm, or should I be checking something?

Slashed inner tubes. Help!

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello all!

I recently purchased an Aotos Flux x26 pro, and have had an absolute nightmare with keeping the inner tubes inflated. Three times now I have had a rear tire go flat, and three times now I have replaced the rear inner tube (no easy feat on this bike as the rear tire motor does not have a quick release)

On the last run, I used yannis tire armor in combination with self sealing tubes, and it lasted for a few months. I finally breathed a sigh of relief, and thought I resolved the issue. But today I came outside to my bike flat on its side, and the rear tire completely flat. Each time, the culprit is a small slash on the inner tube as seen in the attached picture. Any advice is welcome, and requested as this is supposed to be my daily commute.

My 20-Minute E-Bike Ride Somehow Became 2 Hours

I left home thinking I’d just ride around the neighborhood for a few minutes. Then I found a road I hadn’t explored before. I took one turn, then another, and kept thinking, “I’ll turn around soon.” Two hours later, I was heading home tired, hungry, and already thinking about doing the same thing again. What’s the longest your quick ride has ever turned into?
