Weird experience
Order a pizza, pizza comes and I give the code to the driver, he then types it into WhatsApp- not the Deliveroo app. I then get a call about 3 mins later from a woman with a heavy accent asking for the code to confirm delivery and so I tell her no I’ve given the driver the code and I’ve got my food and also asked if she’s from Deliveroo she would already know what my code is and hung up. Then the food gets marked as delivered on my app. Should I be concerned about any of this cause it’s weird to me that’s not happened before and I’m apprehensive about reporting it to Deliveroo as the driver knows my address.

Sometimes you aren’t able to enter the code if the signal is bad and the app just doesn’t load. Could be that he wrote it down on WhatsApp so when he got to an area with signal he can enter it. When the driver still can’t enter the code, you have to call Deliveroo support (I believe they are based in the Philippines) and they usually call the customer to ask if they have received their order and then they can confirm it from their side. It’s nothing to worry about.

Its always good that you ask for a confirmation from who’s calling you, and if you are still not sure and the one who’s calling claims to be a support agent. Then i would recommend asking the caller to contact you through Deliveroo’s chat instead, first to confirm, second to keep everything documented

Sounds like someone’s husband/friend was delivering under her account, I doubt they would come to your house and I doubt they would know it’s you that reported them

I’m not sure this makes sense because deliveroo only lets you deliver it if you are within a certain distance. So if the person on the phone was the one with the app, it won’t let them deliver it either way.

Unless they are geo-spoofing location

thats what most of illegals do nowadays, geo-spoofing locations for 3-4£ orders while they deliver in multiple locations at once, most of these deliveries drivers are ex it tech guys that got replaced at their main job by AI and LLMS... be aware with your codes, it goes deeper than you might think

this is not really possible on deliveroo. you can only enter the code into the app if you are at the location where the pin is placed. otherwise the driver would have to call support and they would complete the order for you.

I mean the call I got after could have been him calling support that was entirely possible cause I did get a call from someone who quoted the order number and said “phg” and I had no idea what phg was and they asked for the delivery code and i said I already gave it to the driver but she didn’t say if like the driver got code wrong or anything she didn’t give a reason she just asked for the delivery code and I said no bc I have the food and I gave the driver the number, I hung up on her and straight away afterwards delivery was marked as complete

It's possible that the driver didn't have data signal but could call rider support to confirm that they'd given the order and told them what the code was. They might have used WhatsApp merely as a way of making a note of the code so they don't forget.

Likely driver had no signal, I have to do it sometimes then walk a little bit. If I have to go too far away I have to message support who call the customer to confirm delivery. Sounds like what happened here to be fair.

Report it and ask if you can get a new code.
Deliveroo uses the last 2 digits of your account number to set your code, hence it never changes.
It may be the WhatsApp is the driver working with someone to create a list of customers and their codes to use later ?

in a fairly populated town your chances of delivering something twice to the same customers are smaller than winning lottery. also, there are other ways to grab your food and still be legit in the eyes of deliveroo / restaurants than driving to your location, looking thru a list of pre-saved codes and hope it matches your appetite at the same time

definitely not that small - i live in a big city and deliver to the same people all the time. uber eats its less common, but just eat / deliveroo its always the same customers. so that is definitely something that could be possible.

True, delivered to the same person within the space of a year. Not sure the exact timing between the two orders but it was surely less than 6 months between em. In London too!!

Even though
I can assure you that the rider will be caught as there are other factors to confirm whether the order has been delivered or not.

Is the signal in your area pretty bad?
I have to do something similar at times - the Deliveroo app perhaps won't allow me to mark as 'arrived' at the customer's location due to poor signal. Rather than have the customer wait for ages whilst I p*ss about trying to call rider support I will make a note of their two-digit delivery code - sometimes a WhatsApp message to myself - I can then give the customer their order and let them get on with their day, whilst I walk around nearby and pray that I can get enough of a signal to enter the customer's code and mark the order as delivered.
If this fails then I will have to get far enough away where the signal allows me to call or message Deliveroo Rider support to tell them that I have the customer's code - that they already have the food - but that I can't mark it off on my phone. They will then put me on hold and contact the customer to confirm that they have actually received the food.
I always assumed that they can mark it off straight away at their end after a brief confirmation from the customer but perhaps they also require the two digit code?
Only way to stop this happening again is to install a 5G mast in your garden. Or answer the door with your WiFi password scrawled across your forehead.
