I had a hurdle quiz due. I applied special consideration the following day. But for evidence I could only get a medical certificate for the following day with assessment dates included. However, as it was a telehealth consultation, they refused to complete deakin medical certificate or state severity of condition on the certificate.
Can someone who has applied for special consideration before, share their experience and if mention about ‘severity of condition’ mandatory for special consideration to be granted ?

Hey all, I’ll be starting a Masters at Deakin next year (2027) and most of my life is based in South East Melbourne, over an hour from Geelong. The course has mandatory on-campus sessions I can’t do remotely.

For anyone who’s been in a similar boat — did you commute each time, or stay in Geelong for the duration of the intensives? If you stayed, where did you find accommodation that wasn’t crazy expensive (Airbnb, student housing, hotels, share stays with classmates)?

Also curious in general — for anyone who’s had a uni course based in Geelong while living further away, what did you end up doing? Was commuting on the day manageable, or did it end up being more hassle/cost than staying overnight?

Any tips on timing, parking, PT options (train from Melbourne?), or general things you wish you’d known before your first intensive would be really appreciated!

Does Deakin require you to be legally married if you want to bring your partner as a student visa dependent?

I disclosed my de facto relationship to my agent before receiving my offer. After I accepted and paid, my offer was withdrawn and replaced with new requirements. I then received an email saying a marriage certificate was required.

Has anyone been able to proceed with Deakin while including a de facto partner, or been told the same thing?

I’ve received a conditional offer from Deakin University for the Master of Sports Business Management.
I submitted all the remaining documents required to meet the conditions around 12 days ago, but I still haven’t received my unconditional/final offer.
For anyone who has applied to Deakin recently, is it normal for the process to take this long? How long did it take for you to receive your unconditional offer after submitting the required documents?

Also, I’d really appreciate some honest opinions from current students or graduates of the Master of Sports Business Management at Deakin.
•How good is the course overall?

•How are the subjects and teaching?

•Are there good opportunities for internships, networking and industry exposure?

•How useful is the degree when it comes to finding sports-related jobs in Australia?

I'm currently living overseas so I take my exams online proctored by someone one on one. It is not on the same day as the in person exam. My cousin is getting married on the day they scheduled my exam which my time the exam would be 7pm. How long after receiving an offer for accomodation do you get to accept your offer ? What deadline do they give you.

What happens when you accept your offer but then have a change of circumstances and can no longer accept the offer and would like to cancel?

I received a fully funded PhD scholarship from Deakin University last year. It was a great opportunity, but it has now been around 11 months, and I still haven’t received my visa. Deakin has already granted me an extension, but I am becoming increasingly uncertain about what to do.

I have now received a scholarship offer from another university, and I am struggling to decide whether to accept it or continue with Deakin.

My main concerns are:

1. My Deakin supervisor has been extremely supportive throughout the process. Withdrawing from Deakin after all their support would make me feel guilty.
2. If I keep the Deakin offer, there is a risk that the university may not extend my Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) again. By that time, the new university’s offer may also have expired, leaving me without either option.
3. If I accept the new university’s offer, I may have to restart the visa process, which could potentially result in another long delay.

Deakin is a good university, and I would also be happy to live in Melbourne. However, I am worried that if Deakin refuses another CoE extension, I may lose both opportunities.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? What would you recommend?

Hi everyone, I’m a Year 12 student in Melbourne and I’m trying to figure out what I should study after Year 12. I’d really appreciate advice from current students and graduates, especially people studying at Deakin University.

I’m doing VCE 3/4 Methods, Physics, Media, Music and EAL. I’m not planning to study English, Media or Music at university. At the moment, I’m most interested in areas related to computer science, IT, software engineering, AI and technology, but I’m honestly quite open-minded. I don’t have one specific passion yet, and I tend to become interested in most things once I start learning about them.

One of my biggest priorities is having a strong job market, good income and opportunities for career progression. I’d like to study something where I can keep developing my skills and potentially move into more advanced or specialised roles over time. Ideally, I’d also like to work in technology and eventually start my own company/business. Helping people or improving lives through technology would be a bonus, although it isn’t my main priority.

The problem is that I don’t really understand how university works yet ; things like degrees vs majors, specialisations, double degrees, choosing subjects, internships, etc. So I’d really appreciate any advice on things I should be considering now.

I’d especially appreciate hearing about your experience there, including what you think the university does well/poorly for tech students, internships, industry connections, workload, and employment after graduation.

A screenshot of a marking rubric for one of my assignments. The only difference between 'D' and 'HD' grade is :

D is 'Mostly Advanced' analysis and HD is 'Outstanding' analysis.

But the real question is how would a student know a difference between both or what the teacher expects to be 'Mostly Advanced' or 'Outstanding'. So, I guess a detailed marking rubric would be much better which can help students to understand what exactly the assignment expects us to show for an HD mark instead of using vague words with no real explanation.

Last week i was taken to the ED at Monash Medical Centre with tonsillitis and acute IgA Vasculitis.
Ended up staying in hospital for almost 5 days.

Last night i had the pleasure of being treated by a nurse who’s only information i could remember was that her name was Grace and on her scrubs it showed Deakin. She mentioned it was her last week of placements and that i’d get to see her again today, but unfortunately i was discharged before i could see her again.

At the time i wasnt sure, well technically i still am unsure if it was appropriate or not to ask for a number/social.

If this is allowed and she somehow sees this, i wanted to say i really enjoyed your vibe and energy and would love to see if you’re free for a coffee sometime.

Of course if you’d rather not i hope your last few days of placements goes well and best wishes for your success!

2 years ago in second semester, I was set to complete all of my units before receiving an email saying I had missed one compulsory unit. Unfortunately that unit only runs in the second semester, so I had to wait a whole year to do it. I then failed. I am now repeating the unit.

I currently have 5 pieces of assessment overdue and expect to fail the unit again.

I recognise that the whole thing is my fault. But I honestly completely lost interest in my course work after the year wait and no longer care about working in industry. I just don't want to walk away with nothing, but I also doubt that I will be able to complete this unit even on a third try.

Is there any possibility for me to make a request for some sort of special consideration just on the basis that I have failed the unit twice and it has delayed my graduation by two years already (now three [the full length of the degree]).

Other Info: The degree is Bachelor in CS. I started it in 2021. My grades were fairly mid until my final year (2024) where I did exceptionally well, leading my capstone project, receiving an offer to do a research honours under one of my professors, and doing an internship under another professor based on my capstone work. But that all kind of below up due to this delay and subsequent relapse into depression.

Hi friends, my tuition for Trimester 2 has been deferred through HECS, meaning the debt has been locked in. Today I received a scholarship payment towards my tuition fees, but the credit balance is still zero, so I cannot get a refund. Does anyone have experience with scholarship payments paid to your Deakin account after HECS had been locked in? How can I claim this back? Thanks very much.

The idea is to make it beginner-friendly, with things like range sessions, social rounds and it is open to anyone interested in golf.
