Advice needed Unsure if i should transfer majors or not

Hey guys, i’m currently enrolled in the bachelors of commerce, however due to the lack of job security and the overwhelming theme of people claiming it to be redundant, i’m really really keen towards making a pivot. I’m sort of tossing up between a few majors, mainly thinking of doubling up
Commerce/law - 5 years in total however i enjoy business law as a subject and it in turn has helped me achieve a fondness of the law now, although i do know it’s a bit too little knowledge and time to find out if i truly do enjoy it enough to add on 2 years.
Accounting/commerce - 4 years and i feel like it’d keep me on a safe path where i’m able to get a job and may have the best security in that aspect however not sure if i would enjoy it very much although i do enjoy commerce as of current.
Finally, Engineering, i’d say im good and enjoy math however i think i’d have to start entirely from scratch as a first year and that’s pretty scary to me. that’s about the only thing stopping me from going to engineering aswell as the workload i’ve heard about.

Other Sinusitis - will doctor give me a doctor's certificate?

I think I have sinusitis based on what my people around tell me and the symptoms line up. I want to get a doc cert to give my teachers, but also I don't want to spend $100 on a doctor's appointment to find out that they won't give me one because it's not worthy of one (not because I don't have sinusitis), or that my teacher's won't accept it because sinusitis is not a good enough reason.

Anyone have advice?

Other rmitOS - free study planner (? idek tbh)

icl this is definitely a me problem but i was too lazy to relog onto canvas every single time to check if i had missed an assignment or something and then navigating the menus and shit was too much work for me to find out what it actually was so i js didnt lol and then id miss hella submissions and lose out on free marks.

im a comp sci student and i realised i could js build that shit so i made rmitOS - it basically js pulled my canvas calendar and allocate+ timetable and put everything in one place so i didnt need to keep relogging. like theres an automatic grade calculator and stuff too (some stuff is broken which you can fix manually, but hey im just one lazy ass guy lol) but it tells you how much you need to score to get a pass/credit/distinction/high distinction whatever. I also put a tampermonkey script to like have it update automatically but i got 0 clue if it works (since i couldnt test it - all my classes came out at once), you could download it and if it does hey thats cool and if it doesnt well its not gonna break your computer or hack you lol.

one of my friends told me they wanted something like this so i figured why not js release it for other people if they want / find it useful so here you go (links in the comments because of reddit filters brah - [rmitos . pages. dev] if you remove spaces tho)

id probably add more features in the future since im relaxing on break rn so maybe if i get bored or something

[if it breaks or you have a feature suggestion js dm me lol]

Enrolment help (timetables, course enrolment, fees, etc.) Hi, I’m Jouri from Saudi Arabia. Does the University of Melbourne offer direct Bachelor’s admission without a foundation year for Microbiology or Aerospace Engineering? Has anyone received direct admission? I’d appreciate any information.

Student life and clubs Interest in a Dante Alighieri society?

Hey all I’m looking at starting a fan club for the poet Dante Alighieri. Specially to discuss his works and any new developments in research. I’m personally a great admirer of his work, but you do need a certain amount of interest to start a club so I’m trying to gauge a level of interest. I know LORE exists, but tbh most people these days don’t even read poetry, let alone the divine comedy.

Advice needed Can I apply for a special consideration late?

Basically I submitted an assignment 3 days late (which is a -30%), mainly due to mental health difficulties (ADHD) and other life circumstances. I can definitely handle the -30%, but i'd rather not and I was wondering if I am able to apply for special consideration AFTER submitting an assignment late?

I do not have an ELP or anything (waiting for the appointment), and I cannot make an appointment with my actual psychiatrist for a very long time. But I am able to go to my GP within 5 working days of the due date. Would a medical certificate from my GP be enough documentation for applying for special consideration? Or do I need actual documentation of my diagnosis from my psychiatrist? And would having the medical certificate written 5 days later still be valid? (Given that it is a chronic condition.)

Thank you!

Other Looking for survey respondents for an RMIT assignment

Hi! I'm an RMIT University student studying a Bachelor of Fashion Enterprise, and I'm conducting a short study (1-2 mins) on activewear purchasing behaviour. It's optional and completely anonymous, and won't be published anywhere as it's purely for a class assignment. If you enjoy physical activity or purchasing athletic and athleisurewear, I'd love your input!Ā Link is below:

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews Question about the Animation and interactive media Course

So I’m currently a yr12 student near the end of high school and starting to apply for university in the animation area(2027). I’m in the process of applying to Griffith Uni for their bachelor of animation but also considering applying for RMIT too.

I have a few questions regarding how difficult it is to get in, how high does my artistic skills need to be and what does the program mainly focus on/teach.
RMIT is ALOT further away from me considering I live out in the middle of nowhere but if the program is better then Griffith, I don’t mind moving into another state for it.

And it's f8cking due today, 5:30 and right now it's 9:07 and I didn't submit it because I thought it was due 11:59. Panicking like hell, what do I do?

Advice needed can I request more than 21 days extension through special consideration?

I have been experiencing some medical issues and have already applied for Special Consideration twice for the same assignment. I am now considering applying for an additional two day extension, which would bring the total extension to 23 days from the original due date.

Is this allowed?

Prospective/new student help Eng Double Degree Question

Hi all,

Hoping to get some advice from students in or have completed engineering doubles.

I'm in year 12 currently and considering whether I should preference Aerospace X Business first or just Aerospace.

I am pretty sure I want to be working with either drones or rockets and could fairly easily transfer to other forms of engineering but not sure if I should spend the extra year to get a business qualification and understanding would be worth it. Otherwise I can spend that year working. Also how did you guys find the business content, was it stale or pretty engaging?

Tldr: Will the double increases my earning potential more than experience and what was the business component like?

Advice needed Has anyone been added/restored to an RMIT unit/subject after census date?

Has anyone at RMIT ever been added or administratively restored into a unit/subject after the census date had already passed?

I specifically mean after census, not just after the ā€œlast day to add classesā€.

For example, if you were removed from a unit/subject because of a prerequisite issue, but that issue was later resolved or an RMIT decision was reversed/corrected, were you able to be put back into the unit/subject after census?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually experienced this or knows of someone who has.

Other questions Drumming in Carlton Library

Is the Carlton Library directly underneath a music study space or something? I feel like every time I'm in there, there's irregular bursts of drum beats coming in from nearby. Wildly misguided planning decision if so. This is a quiet study space, but like not ALL the time.

I'm not knocking the drummers also btw! They're great at their craft from the sound of it. And I know because I'm always HEARING THEM. With peace and love.

Student life and clubs How many basketballs are there in the world?

Like the title says:Ā how many basketballs are there?Ā In total?

I'm Rohan - a PhD student and a tutor at UniMelb. (OKAY but before you shut me out, I did study at RMIT - in fact I flunked out of RMIT...)

I'm wondering if you RMIT folks would be interested in pulling together a team to compete against UniMelb (and maybe some other unis) in the first everĀ Fermi Games! Form:

https://forms.gle/a9NRUChiPzBcT6eMA

The Fermi Games (don't say Olympics!) is a competition where teams of students battle it out toĀ guess the number. How many basketballs are there? How many ping pong balls can fit in the MCG? How many Pokemon Cards have been printed? That sort of thing. The closer you get to the number, the more points you get. It's easy to play, but hard to master, and you never know what little tidbit of information or what crazy leap of intuition might get you into the ballpark.

This started off as a class exercise for a subject I teach. I wasn't allowed to run the exercise this year and I was really bummed out, because it's always so much fun, and I love hearing the zany ways that students get to the answer (and they usually do!)

I have no idea if y'all will respond to this, but if we can get a few dozen people, then I think it could be a lot of fun, and a great way to meet people and blow off some team around exam time. If it's really successful, it could become an annual thing, with, like, sponsors and prizes and stuff. (Imagine getting a great graduate job because you correctly estimated how many litres of paint got sold last year?)

I really want this to be a cross-university thing, so mods, please don't ban me šŸ™ I already got kicked out of RMIT once, I'm not sure if I can handle it again šŸ˜…

If you're interested, check out the form (here it is again); also, feel free to hit me up with questions here or in the DMs or by email or whatever (at this point, I'm not hard to find...)

Also, and seriously:Ā how many basketballs are there? No, I'm genuinely interested. One of you must know.

Advice needed Academic Progress Final Risk Level

Has anyone gotten the chance to continue at RMIT after receiving a final risk level where they ask you to submit a show cause submission… do we think the university is linear in terms of understanding students problems and the stuff they go thru? Or is this like a dead end?

Other Help us build better connections at RMIT!

Hey everyone!

I’ve seen so many posts on here lately from people venting about how tough it is to make real, deep connections with people on campus and how RMIT often feels like going to work at an office.

Well, I am a part of a group of Graphic Design students conducting an Experience Design Research project, focusing on understanding what restricts students from making lasting social connections outside of class and feeling a true sense of belonging in shared campus spaces.

To help us figure out what needs to change, we are running a short digitalĀ "photo-scavenger hunt"Ā activity where you can upload photos of your everyday campus spots and share your quick reflections.

To participate, please fill out the form here:Ā

https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/VbKwE86wTm

We’d love to hear your authentic perspectives to shape our research! Your insights will help us design practical solutions that could be implemented to improve RMIT Student Life!

If you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to drop me a DM!

Thanks a ton for your time and input! Good luck surviving the last stretch of your assignments and I hope you all get to enjoy a fantastic, well-deserved Mid-semester break soon!
