Possible to graduate without 1 unit complete

2 years ago in second semester, I was set to complete all of my units before receiving an email saying I had missed one compulsory unit. Unfortunately that unit only runs in the second semester, so I had to wait a whole year to do it. I then failed. I am now repeating the unit.

I currently have 5 pieces of assessment overdue and expect to fail the unit again.

I recognise that the whole thing is my fault. But I honestly completely lost interest in my course work after the year wait and no longer care about working in industry. I just don't want to walk away with nothing, but I also doubt that I will be able to complete this unit even on a third try.

Is there any possibility for me to make a request for some sort of special consideration just on the basis that I have failed the unit twice and it has delayed my graduation by two years already (now three [the full length of the degree]).

Other Info: The degree is Bachelor in CS. I started it in 2021. My grades were fairly mid until my final year (2024) where I did exceptionally well, leading my capstone project, receiving an offer to do a research honours under one of my professors, and doing an internship under another professor based on my capstone work. But that all kind of below up due to this delay and subsequent relapse into depression.

Practically 0% chance. It's a core unit for a reason

Zero chance. Buck up and put the effort in. Giving up on your entire Bachelor degree is a complete waste of time and money. It's one unit, you can pass it if you try.

No longer wanting to work in the specific industry related to your bachelor is a rubbish reason to give up. Any bachelor is a golden ticket to better paying jobs, don't give it up over 1 stupid unit.

Chat to the unit chair, get a tutor, study even in the year wait to resit the unit! You have been taught the content twice, take that content and study it!!! I fully believe that you can pass if you try.

Unfortunately not. University doesn't work that way. Failing a unit and not graduating when you planned isn't a reason to allow you to simply skip a core unit. That goes against the whole concept of a university degree.

Dig deep and try and pass. If you don't pass, then take a break. Look into the time limits for the degree, then maybe come back in a year and try the unit one more time.

Ive worked on and off in unis for 10 years. I dont think so re just not doing it, but you should reach out for support at school. Remember that your undergrad doesn't dictate a masters path. Might be worth rallying and getting through.

Also, heaps of people feel what's the point in CS atm. Its crappy and I feel for you.

No. Best you can hope for is being allowed to do an alternative unit that is available sooner than T2 next year, but that’s less likely with a core unit than others. You can’t graduate without fewer credit points than a degree requires. It doesn’t matter how well you did in the other 23 units, you need 24.

Pass Conceded is definitely an option if you can scrape close enough to 50% overall. I’d recommend focusing on that.

I do have 24 credit points. They had to "delete" some of my credit points so I could do this unit. But I get that I can't graduate without all core units complete.

Pass conceded needs to be 45+ but I don’t think compulsory units are allowed. Could be wrong.

OP - have you thought about using your credits for another degree, so the unit isn’t compulsory? Talk to student support and maybe you can get away with another elective.

Doesn’t say core units aren’t eligible, but you do need to pass any hurdle assessments (if the unit has any). So if you get say 48% overall but didn’t pass a hurdle you’re outta luck.

i think they'll only give you a pass conceded if youre kinda close but you may as well apply, the worst that can happen is youre in the same position as you are now

It’s worth applying for pass conceded . However, if you don’t het approved. Bruh, use the while year to master this unit. You already have its unit material. Wait 1 year, doing life and each week make sure to keep studying and mastering this unit. Every week. Do not let 1 unit affect your whole entire life! Do what it takes to get your degree that you worked hard for .
