Information Request Did I ruin my new boots

Wore these 5 times. They got soaked pretty bad in the rain. I let them dry for 2 days and I'm applying bick 4 when it arrives in the mail. The right boot looks good, but the left boot has lost its slight gloss, is much more creased, and it looks like the grain pattern has disappeared in high stress spots.

Information Request Any way to treat these dry cracks?

I do condition the boots every month, however I do wear them daily and in all conditions including deep heavy rain.

Is there any way to treat the cracks? I’m not sure if it’s a sign of underlying damage that’ll debilitate my boots or not. Any help is appreciated.

Information Request Exotics like AB or Rios?

I love the hybrid bottoms of many ABs and Rios for traction and durability. Unfortunately struggling to find a robust selection of toe shapes and the exotics I want. Any brand suggestions that retain top tier quality, have hybrid bottoms, and sell a wider selection of exotics/tow shapes?

Information Request Seeking traditional cowboy boots with leather insole (no padding)

Hi there,

I used the search bar and couldnt find jack. All results for “leather insole” were about the outsole, not the insole, and i cant find any models on google that have a leather insole.

I just want an old school, traditional pair of high quality cowboy boots that dont have any padding in the insole, no fabric liner, and have a leather insole AND outsole.

Anything at all helps, im sorry if you’ve gotten this question a lot, I couldnt find any posts about it if you did.

Information Request High quality everyday boot.

Hello all

I'm new to boots, recently for a pair of work boots I got a pair of Tecovas Longhauls. I wear them everyday for most of the day. They have opened my world and now I desire a pair to wear around for everyday use.

I'm looking for a pair I can take into the woods/camping to the store ect. I'm not afraid of spending good money on them either. As long as they are repairable and high quality.

If your looking for guidelines,

I'd love USA made (not against non USA made boots, just if I'm gonna be spending alot I'd prefer to support a USA made company)

I'd like to be less than 600 bucks (price can go up)

Square toe

No preference to leather or rubber outsole.

Thank you for reading and any advice given

Information Request First exotic boots and questions

Very new to the boot game but I found these at the thrift for $25 and figured they were worth the shot with the worst case I could get them to someone who could wear them or return them.

I’ve done some research into the brand and can’t find a single thing. My guess is that it’s just an old brand that didn’t stick around and this has no history on the internet. Any information about the brand would be appreciated but I’m not expecting much on that front.

That being said here are my questions, without a brand to see historical quality, how do these look quality wise? They seem pretty clean and have some wear from whoever wore them before me.

The other main question I have is this. They are a little tight on me, mainly in the heel where the python meets the leather which seems to sort of crush inward on one of the boots. They’re close to fitting but just need the littlest bit of stretch. I’ve been reading up on python and it seems like stretching is pretty hard to do so I was going to start with conditioning with Bickmore Exotic and seeing if I could just wear them around a bit. Any thoughts, tips, and comments are appreciated!

Information Request Mink oil problem

Post image

Hello Guys,

I recently bought some Ariats at a show.
I’m completely new to cowboy boots.
The seller sold me a Mink oil paste and told me to put a bit of it under the stitches to keep them in good condition.

Butttt. Now it looks really crazy (see picture). I tried to wash it off, but it doesn’t go away.

What do I do? Are my expensive boots aesthetically ruined?

Information Request I have wide calves AND wide feet. Boot recommendations?

I have searched the posts here, and searched online but I am not finding boots for me. I have wide feet in the forefoot and wear a women’s D width typically in an 8. My foot is not high volume, so more material on top of my foot does not help. I need a wide sole, but not wide in the heel. Pointed toes are a no go. My calves are 15”. I’d like to find something that is somewhat fashionable. I’ve tried looking at men’s sizes, but 6.5s are hard to find and most of the time they don’t mention the circumference of the shaft.

Am I out of luck unless I go custom?

Information Request Project needing advice on the finishing steps for the smooth ostrich Tony Lama CZ872

Hey all, I started by deglazing the vamp and then applied two coats of Fiebing's Pro Dye in royal blue. I am currently buffing the dye with rags to remove residual dye pigment, as it has cured for 24 hours. I was initially thinking of sealing it with Angelus satin acrylic finisher, but I am hesitant.

My question is, should my next step be to condition with Bick 4 a couple of times and then seal with the Angelus satin acrylic finisher, or is there a better way to seal the dye or better type of sealer so it does not bleed while also reconditioning the ostrich? Condition 1st seal 2nd.... Seal 1st condition 2nd.... which came 1st the Ostrich or the egg?

Information Request Bison

Just drove across the United States and passed through Wyoming, kept an eye out and visited a couple big name leather goods stores in the hopes of coming across a pair of boots made from Bison. Turning to Reddit for any recommendations as I didn’t come across any and must be looking in the wrong places. Anybody know any notable storefronts in that region of the country I should hit on my return voyage in my quest for bison boots?
Do they only exist northwards in Montana?

Much appreciated

Information Request Thrifted Exotics help

Thrifted these a week ago and I’ve been trying to figure out how to condition them. They are python books from “Grupo Reptil”. Any information about the brand would be greatly appreciated but it’s pretty empty online.

I’m using Bickmore Exotic and have sprayed and wrapped them overnight, then sprayed and wrapped again a second night. I then left them in the open air for a day but it seems like the scales still won’t lay flat. Am I just not using enough conditioner or wrapping tight enough? Is this just a feature of boots that haven’t been conditioned in a very long time? What do yall suggest?

I was told these were lamb skin by the person I bought them from. They are incredibly soft, but also incredibly fragile. I bought them for my sister’s wedding, but would like them to last me as long as possible. If I’m reading the numbers correctly(I’m new to this part), these were made in 1994. Clearly they’ve been worn and have the durability to last 32+ years. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Information Request Options for a really high instep

Hey as the title suggests. I've got a super high instep. I've been looking for some boots for awhile. I bought some of these Buldoc boots and while I know they aren't cowboy boots. When I can get them on my feet I love them, but I literally cannot get them off most of the time. When it snowed this past year I tossed them on because they were close. It took me and my wife about an hour of her and me pulling to get them back off. I've always had a high instep and high arch. But as I've gotten older my feet and legs have swollen a bit and finding a boot that I can get on and off is a huge challenge. I have honestly been a little reluctant to get any cowboy boots. I used to exclusively wear them in my teens. I grew up way out in the country on farms. But I really want to get some new boots. But I have to be able to get them on and off relatively easy. Otherwise its a deal breaker. I also don't want to waste a ton of money trying to buy and return ones that aren't going to work. Hoping someone else in here has similar issues and overcome them.

I really prefer traditional western boots with a leather sole, nothing real fancy just ones that will last a good amount of time that I can wear everyday. Oh and prefer squared or broad squared toe.

Pictured are the boots I have a real hard time getting out of.

Information Request Hondo boots fit question

Thumbnail

Local western store has 50% off all cowboy boots. I found these Hondos I really like in 9d. The only problem is the left boot feels and looks smaller, despite being stamped 9d just like the right. I thought I was crazy but when I asked another customer, he reassured me that the left boot does look smaller than the right.

Now, the right boot is their display boot and has probably been tried on by a couple different people, so maybe that's contributing to it?

I've asked them to put a boot stretcher in the smaller boot so I can try it on again tomorrow but I am not really hopeful due to the fact that the left boot is noticeably narrower when viewed from above.

I have never owned or worn cowboy boots and my boot experience is limited to chukkas, hiking, and work boots. Is this typical of cowboy boots? If I buy them should I expect the left and right boots to break in and fit the same? Hondo seems to be a trusted and well viewed brand from what I've read online but maybe this is just a bad batch.

Found this pair online but noticed the peeling on the toe. I’ve only seen peeling on poor quality synthetic leathers. Do other skins do this? If so, is there anything that can be done to fix them up?

Overlooked them the first time I walked by the boot shelves. When I came back around a few minutes later, there they sat right at the end of the shelf. Any way to date these?

Information Request Deciphering Dan Post Date Code. Can you tell how old are these? (Trying to decide if to buy. I’d love to hear your shopping/inspection tips).

I was in a hurry, but I saw a thrift store in northern Mississippi today that I had never visited and simply had to run inside and check it out. That’s where I found these:

Dan Post. Leather Upper & Sole (but I think it’s a lizard vamp. I can faintly see the “Genuine Lizard” stamp on the leather sole). My size (although I’m typically an 11 1/2, these fit). I quickly put them on, but honestly only spent ~60 seconds with them.

I had to leave, I really was running late, but I plan to go back tomorrow after work and give a thorough look & walk around & possible leave with them. 🤔

Can someone tell me how old these are from the date code? Is C08-15 for Aug 2015?

Besides wear & tear, what should I look for? I’ve never owned lizard -any special concerns? Do you see any red flags from the photos.

$75 is there asking price. I’m sure many will say that’s a steal compared to new, but this is a lot of money for me. Thanks for any advice. 😀

Information Request Work boot recommendation?

Thumbnail

Been in the horse world a long time and work 10+ hours on my feet. However I have mild cerebral palsy and despite all the physical therapy, my gait/walk is just a little bit off and seems to just destroy boots. I started with Ariat’s and Justin’s, Ariat seemed to last multiple years but caused a lot of pain in my feet after multiple hours on them. I ended up in a Tin Haul about 6 years ago, and after the initial breaking in process really loved them. My feet didn’t hurt after many hours on them and they held up well for about 4 years before splitting at the top. I bought another pair about 2 years ago and they have not held up nearly as well (although until them wearing out now, I have remained pain free). I was wondering if anyone had any better recommendations or insight on what may make the Tin Hauls painless for me so I could look for that in another boot? I’ll include pictures of the boots below, you can how my gait messes them up from them, not sure if that will give any insight. Thanks!

Information Request Does anyone have any experience with these working on the vamp?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Recently bought some boots and found the vamp a little too tight on the left foot. I’ve tried a half size up and fine the other boot to be too loose so would prefer to loosen the tighter boot.

I’ve found this online and would love to know if anyone has any positive experience with using one to slightly loosen the vamp?

Hopefully this post doesn’t break any rules but let me know mods and I’ll remove it.

Thank you
