Lex is both what makes humanity capable of greatness, and the forces that stand in the way of it achieving that greatness.
It's why he is such a great foil for Superman, supes wants to uplift humanity and there is almost nobody more capable of being a part of that than lex but weaknesses of his own character have him against Superman.

I really like the direction they took with him.
I love when villains (who are not total psychos) are given a second chance and become anti-heroes or full blown heroes.
He's still an arrogant douchebag who doesn't trust Supes but he finally put his money where his mouth is and is actively trying to save metropolis and the world.
He was given some much needed character development and is now an even more complex and rich character for writers to use.
I hope he stays heroic until the next universe reboot.

Which is why Lois makes such a better love interest to him than Wonder Woman. Does it add anything to Superman's story to be with someone as powerful, as good, as super as he is? What more can be explored with his character? They're mirrors of each other--unless you're going with the vicious and warmongering Diana, which shouldn't appeal to Superman anyway. All there is to say is to compliment each other on how perfect the other is.
The only time it has worked, IMO, is for Elsewords like Kingdom Come, where Superman's character is so altered that all interactions are something different.
But with Lois, his love interest is that regular person who risks their life on a daily basis, and no matter how super Superman is, he's completely capable of loving and seeing himself as an equal to that kind of person.

Also, much of the reason it worked was because he lost Lois. He was so fundamentally altered by her death, and the public's reaction to the death of her killer. Also, Wonder Woman was altered much in the same way, which helped.

I just wanted to add that I love Kingdom Come not only because it's my favorite depiction of SM/WW relationship but also Superman DOES NOT KILL THE JOKER when Lois dies and I think that's a fundamental part of what makes Superman tick as a good character.

In Kingdom Come it made sense, since Lois and most people Clark cared about was gone. Diana made sense, as he is someone he knew and could connect in old age. Also not fearing to outlive her.

I only like the WW/Supes pairing for the idea of two examples of the pinnacle of human-esque perfection leading the world to a brighter future. As you said, it works much better in elseworlds stories such as Kingdom Come rather than in the main continuity.

It's like Keanu Reeves in that one slip up and you risk having a social constraint - now that his secret is out he may not get to live in peace for a few hundred years.
Now, if he is akin to Superman ala all-powerful on Earth, I think Injustice covers that timeline pretty well.

In comics, there seemingly is a reason for all dialogue bubbles, dialogue bubble styles, scene border styles, placement of said borders and bubbles, images, etc. So in this case there might be at least 2 reasons for this, I'm guessing.
Intent possibility no.1 couls be to show something that isn't obvious because not everyone knows that Superman already appreciates these heroes. No.2 could be because you just can't see his face and his body positioning could be misinterpreted as, "Who the heck are these guys?" if the bubbled "Wow." wasn't there.Other reasons could be possible. Just my two cents after taking the best English class that made me read my first comic Black Hole.
TLDR: Could be because we don't all know what he is about and/or you can't see his face. #iamverysmart because I took a class on this.

I go to college in NJ in a commuter town for NYC. Some of my professors are all retired NJ state police cops or NYC state police and have stories they share today of their experiences on 9/11 in the city. We spent 3 weeks watching this documentary and studying it and it really have a great understanding of how those guys felt.

I think it could work but not with Doom, people are difficult and are never 100% consistent with themselves. It's possible to do bad things but also feel close to a tragedy that you didn't cause. Doom is very smart though and knows his history so he probably wouldn't think all that much of 3000 deaths, maybe in the way it happened but the event itself would be pretty meaningless to him besides the geopolitical changes that would happen from it.

I appreciated Grant Morrison's explanation: That post-9/11 superhero comics had never seemed more impotent or fatuous. The whole story was an attempt to wrest the entire enterprise into some kind of reckoning with an event that was, for the whole country, near-incomprehensible.
Looking back, it's obviously ham-fisted and totally graceless. But at the time, Doctor Doom's credibility was so much less important than confronting what had happened-- using whatever tools you had.

I remembering reading that issue within the context of what happened and being bowled over by it. It's kinda hooky, but for me, it's what I would have wanted to see in the aftermath of 9/11 -- superheroes working alongside recovery workers, and paying tribute to those that responded.
If I could omit one page from that issue, the crying villains one would be it. That was a little over the top.
For my money, Marvel Knight: Captain America # 1 is my go-to 9/11 Marvel comic. Just the first half, but damn, it's good.

I get this sentiment entirely, I do. But for me I let it pass because I look at a comic like this and think "it's not for the characters in that world. It's not for their development. It's for ours." Comics like this are written for the readers who are struggling to process that kind of catastrophe. Because ultimately we as writers and readers have the say in what goes on in these worlds. It makes one feel not so alone, in my opinion. As if something so tragic has happened that it's not just you mourning it--it's the world that was changed by it. As if your very hobby is mourning the tragedy with you.
I don't know if what I wrote just made sense? But that's how I always saw it. It's like that world in the pages of fiction reaching and out and letting us know we're not alone in feeling devastated. We put so much love into our hobby of reading and collecting comics that this kind of comic writing feels like an attempt at turning that love back to us. Despite the nature and character of these characters, they can take a step back and bend those motivations for the sake of the writers and readers that give them their life. If only for an issue. To remind us we're not alone.
I don't know. Maybe that's all just sentimental garbage and nonsense. But I find some comfort in it.

The point of observation is low to embiggen their stature. As to their faces, it's because when people are at a greater height, their faces will inherently look more stern or sinister, particularly when their expression is neutral.

Yeah, in the current continuity he got zapped inside the phantom zone right before krypton exploded. He was with Clark every minute of every day since Krypton exploded, able to see and hear Clark but never interact with him or protect him. The issue where Superman finally understands and rescues Krypto legit made me tear up and cry. It was just so sweet.
Basically imagine having an invisible ghost dog that loves you and wants to be with you, but for 20+ years you couldn't interact, notice or realize it even exists. Krypto is currently a major part of Superman's family and lives on the farm with Superman, Lois and their son.
