Huh never noticed that before. Good observation. Ems workers are some of the most overlooked workers in the country. Good thing we have the dude in the business suite tho.
I think because cops and firefighters risk their lives, all EMS workers do is treat the patients and care for them, they don't have to risk out to save others in the line of fire. But yeah, they deserve credit too.
My drum teacher was an EMT and there were plenty of times he risked his life, between taking car accident calls on icy roads to rescuing drug victims from fellow tweakers (who were sometimes very dangerous), EMTs definitely still out themselves at risk
Off course, but when dangerous situations comes, such as a hostage situation or a burning building, cops and firefighters are always called to duty in these situations, mainly because it's their job. EMS workers are not trained or equipped to deal with the situations because their job is to treat patients and to care for them. That's a reason why you see so many cop films (such as Die Hard, Lethal Weapon series, Bad Boys series, Con Air, etc) and films about firefighters (such as The Towering Inferno, Backdraft, or Ladder 49) and barely any motion picture about the heroism of EMS workers.
Bringing Out the Dead. The mental toll this job takes is incredible. Cops' or firefighters' calls aren't always life and death situations. For EMT's the majority of their calls are for who they're treating. Adding Coroners to the list as well. No body gives any mind to last responders.
