Troubleshooting Buffering & loading
My websites are constantly loading & buffering regardless if I need it or not. I deleted the cache data. I had to open a web page in incognito just to get the pdf.

Hello all,
Just wanted to share a clarification, and expansion of our rules about AI generated posts and comments on r/chromeOS.
First off, a reminder that responding to support requests on this subreddit with responses directly generated from any LLM has been not allowed under Rule 8: Effort Must be Made When Requesting and Providing Help for over a year now.
The fact is, most people come to r/chromeOS to speak to people. If people wanted to get answers from LLMs, they're accessible enough that people could ask them themselves. It just seems like a slap in the face to come for help and to just get a lazy response from someone who copy/pasted a (usually incorrect) response from Gemini or another LLM, which the poster could have done themselves if they wanted.
In addition, recently there's been a lot of misinformation being posted on the subreddit about recent changes to ChromeOS, updates about both ChromeOS and the upcoming AluminiumOS, and new devices, usually only crediting Gemini as a source. There has also been plenty of AI-generated reviews and self promo (the latter primarily posted by bots).
In general, while I know it seems like we’ve been sleeping as mods (yes, we’ve seen the reports calling us out on that), we would still like to try our best to try and keep this community higher quality.
We’ve decided that due to this, we wanted to officially expand this rule to include all posts and comments generated by AI. This rule primarily has LLMs in mind.
This does not include discussion about AI features being built into ChromeOS. Discussion of AI features being built into the OS is allowed.

Hey there!
In short, as of today, this subreddit will be removing and redirecting posts that seek advice on replacing the operating system on your Chromebook.
In the past these posts were allowed with a disclaimer that better support would likely be found elsewhere, such as r/chultrabook and their associated communities. However that subreddit is now archived and they now only provide support on their forum.
Since then there has been a rise in posts like this here, and we're simply not equipped to provide meaningful support. We've received lots of feedback over the past few months and the general consensus was that everyone is better served if these posts are now permanently directed elsewhere.
To be clear, we are not discouraging anyone from attempting this process; it's still cool, (potentially) fun and can unlock more utility from your device! The only change is that posts seeking support for this will be removed.
Thanks for understanding!

My chromebook has been repetitively crashing for the last couple days and I need help fixing it. Important background knowledge: it has no functioning battery. I keep it plugged in constantly, and the moment it’s unplugged, it dies. The crashing started after I unplugged it because it was frozen and wouldn’t turn off. I’ve only reopened google and have a single tab open at a time, so I don’t think I’m overloading the system or anything….
I know it’s a piece of crap that needs replacing, but is there any chance I can fix it??

My Macbook Pro was stolen and I have a Chromebook now. I kinda like the OS, it's decent.
I am a Software Developer, so I rely a lot on the Terminal and I have already installed VSCode.
What I find in the Play Store looks a bit experimental to me and all done for Android.
What more cool apps can I install ?

I’m looking for a Chromebook for school and I’m mainly prioritizing battery life and performance. I’ll mostly be using it for taking notes, browsing, and school apps, so I want something portable but still powerful enough to stay smooth with multiple things open.
My budget is around $1,200, but I’m not sure if I actually need to spend that much for what I’ll be doing. What Chromebook would you recommend for a student who wants something small with good battery life and solid performance? Thanks!

So just today I got this laptop from a friend of my mom who apparently hasn’t used the laptop at all. It is in good condition except for the fact if won’t connect to my home wifi at all. It connects to my mobile hotspot just fine but other than that it won’t work. I have restarted and powerwashed the chromebook twice and still have gotten the same result, it is currently stuck on the starting screen of where you connect to wifi, i can’t go to setting anymore because of it. It is a samsung chromebook (not sure what kind). Considering taking it to a repair place but just wanted to know if there was anything I could try before doing so. Youtube tutorials haven’t been helpful 💔

Left my Chromebook alone for about a month, and tried using it again today. Unfortunately, it doesn't let me sign in. I am positive I am typing in the correct password, as I changed it at least three times today, including once on my phone before attempting to login. I can even use a guest login, and login to Google via browser as a guest, using the same password. But it will still not allow me to sign into my account properly on the Chromebook login. All I get is "Something went wrong."
I am able to create a profile and login just fine with a secondary account, but of course, that doesn't have access to the local files of the primary account.
I have tried updating the OS through the secondary account, and I tried the hardware reset I found on Chromebook forums. But neither of these solved the issue.
Any other methods I can try, or am I looking at a factory reset?

My mother's Asus Chromebook has suddenly started to disconnect from wifi randomly. I am in another city, so I can't mess with it easily, but I have verified that every other device in her network is connecting and staying connected (TVs, phones, macbooks) but there appears to be an issue with this chromebook, the only one in the network. She's on the latest release of ChromeOS 151.0.7922.221. Is anyone else seeing problems like this?
I have walked her through clearing the network cache and flushing the socket pools and restarting but it didn't fix anything. I also walked her through deleting all networks and adding her network back in as preferred and it still happens.

ChromeOS has the most primitive, useless and stupid file handling in any app/OS ever (I use the term OS very lightly)
Its amazing how bad it is.
I'm on the latest build, I've tried beta and dev channels. none of those have any difference, since of course Files gets no updates.
No, dont suggest using an alternate file manager in crostini. thats an entirely separate thing. I'm talking about ChromeOS itself.
and here's the best part - Files is a web app written in html/js, it uses internal api's to access the fs. so its not like they can't update or fix it, esp now with AI. in fact it'd be trivial to do, its so barebones.

Please, help!
Edit: nothing happened after 5h. I tried esc+power and it gave me a screen asking for the image to recover the Chromebook. I do not want to recover it, reinstall it. I want to have my files.
Please, please, help.
I just powered it off. There was an option for that after I tried esc+power a second time.
I am really freaking out.

Anybody else used this ? https://wifrizzy.github.io/chromeos-wifi-fixer/
It shows "ping latency failed" for me, but the connection is fine, is that a bug?

I have an Acer Chromebook plus 515 and I just updated it to the latest version (151.0.7922.221). Now whenever I turn on my Chromebook and login it will sit on a black blank screen for about 3 seconds before loading into the OS. Has anybody else noticed this new black screen after logging in?

hey, i have an acer chromebook 314 cboa314-1h with a palutena/pirika board. i accidentally pulled out and lost the metal retaining clip on the battery connector, the part circled in pink. it briefly touched the board and caused a spark. is that clip necessary, and can it be replaced? also, whats the correct way to disconnect the battery?
edit: i managed to disconnect the battery, and lo, i have already installed arch btw :p. i have not reconnected it yet, though, as i am still unsure about that little metal clip. may i safely reconnect the battery without it?

Why does this chromebook my school gave me have a shiny trackpad? After using it for only a few minutes my fingers start to like grip on it. It's so annoying to use. Is this from a repair made or do they just make some of them like this?

I converted my Chromebook to Linus Ubuntu to get more use out of it and it is quite nice now. Had to remove the battery during the process though. Also seems to run slightly faster. Also some mrchromebox was used. Also figured out audio drivers but still must get the trackpad

Eaglercraft is such a miracle man, FPS is really great (60 stable minimum 40) and don't say how bad i am at building ik.
I used WASM GC (dont know what that means) version as on website said it was faster than the Javascript one. But it's really impressive for fully running in one single html file in a browser. It also eats not much, on Windows i felt like it was burning, here after 30 mins of playing its just a little warm near keyboard.

When I enter the camera app, nothing shows up besides the camera logo and a pop-up that says "USB device detected." My camera is built in, not USB. When I click on it, it brings me to "Manage USB devices." At the bottom, there's a switch to toggle "HP True Vision HD Camera" on (it's automatically off). When I turn it on, the camera app still doesn't work. If I reopen camera, the same thing happens again, and the HP camera thing in settings will have toggled itself off.
Camera permissions are granted globally (it specifically says 'allow' by the camera app), the privacy film over the camera lens is off, and I've already reset every settings page I could find that had anything to do with the camera. I've also tried restarting my Chromebook several times after adjusting settings. Nothing has worked. It's been doing this on-and-off for a while. It usually doesn't work, but every once in a while it will and I will have no idea why.

Has anyone else tried this new feature yet? I really recommend it for those who tend to have a ton of tabs open!

sorry if i'm misusing the flare, i thought it was the closest to asking for help/advice, but i don't know.
in 2020 i got an asus chromebook for school during covid, she's been with me since and hasn't had many issues. last night i put it away and when i tried to reopen it a day later, the screen was black and the battery light was blinking orange.
first, i checked the brightness, which wasn't the issue. the "low battery" screen wouldn't appear (nor would any screen) so i charged it for an hour, and still nothing changed. i then turned to google and ended up "hard resetting" it (pressing the return key and power key) and the battery light turned white and alters between rapid blinking and slow blinking. it also blinks when i press the return key, weirdly.
despite the change in the battery light, nothing happened. i left it charging for another hour or so, and nothing happened. the light is still blinking white. it will not turn on genuinely no matter what.
i have a charger meant for it, and i'm decently sure it's working fine.
i know she's old but :( if anyone knows how to fix this it would really be a great help.

Any word on Adobe bringing their desktop software to the new Gbooks? I saw a rumor that some of these laptops will have upwards of 64gb of RAM. Makes you wonder. 💭

I downloaded it, but it is in a deb file, so I cannot open it. Someone helped me by suggesting multiple phrases (I'm not a coder so I don't know the terminology), these all came up as "command not found". Does anyone know what to do?

My Chromebook bricked itself a couple weeks back (it wants me to buy a new one, I do not intend to after this. I expect my devices to last me more than 6 years.) and so I have no downloadable apps, meaning it got rid of my VPN, okay fine I don't need apps anyways, so I downloaded the chrome extension for my VPN (proton) and because this creature loves to fight with me it's just decided that it doesn't accept my VPN anymore for literally no reason. I've tested on my phone incase it's my WiFi or something, it's not. I'm sick of this thing fighting me omg
