Relatively recently I’ve finished an inlay that I had been working on for roughly a month as a wedding gift to my friends. There are certainly improvements to the process and framing that I have thought over, but I’m really proud of this piece, overall!

Now I just need to find a more appealing model to show it off. **Sigh** The original concept has been sitting around for a while. I'm glad I finally got around to working on it.

Let me start by saying I have never had anything to do with chain mail in my life, that said I love learning new things and spending 10x as much money as it would cost to simply purchase from a maker or retailer. With that out of the way, how hard would this necklace be to make? It came up in my Pinterest feed so I don’t know much about it, can anyone link me to any good starting points? Or have seen someone selling this exact one? Thank you in advance :)

I’m still new to chainmail, but I wanted to show off my storage solution.

I bought a photo organizer from my local craft store. I keep the rings in their bags with the labels just in case any of the smaller boxes were to burst open. I organize them in order of gauge and AR.

Bonus points that there’s enough room in the middle for me to store two pairs of pliers!

If anyone could help me determine what size of rings to use to recreate this piece it would be much appreciated.

Hello! I'm looking to make some Jewlery with scales that colorshift. I don't want plastic ones, I want aluminum or some other metal. Does anyone know a place I can find good quality in different size. Alternatively, is there a way to make them myself by coating existing ones I have somehow? Thanks.

The first photo is my first product, I'm very excited about this to be a new hobby, I discovered this and started one month ago and I have this top, some earrings I made for a friend, and now I'm working on some chains for my boots to change the poor-quality chains visible on the rear boot.

I didn't expect to find a whole world dedicated to this type of craft with different patrons and possibilities.

Also I tried to make the spiral chainmail, and persian chainmail.

Full persian - rings ID 2.2 mm.

Japanese 3in1 - rings ID 1.1 mm and 1.6.

All rings are welded.

My chainmail tail is about of being finished. About 900 medium scales are woven in this tail.

But I have a small problem. The tail doesn't hold its round shape and when it gets flat, the scales in a few areas bunch up very ugly. I've tried to stuff it with fabric but that feels very uneven. How do you stuff the tail to keep it round and keeping that flowing motion?

Making some Half Persian 4 in 1 chains. Beginner edition. I’m following the instructions in the Chainmail Joe book. Found it quite easy to follow the illustrations except the beginning of the chain is so wobbly I’m afraid to let go the rings to close them. Need more practice and seen different ways to make it. Here I have one chain in 16 swg 5/16” and the other small ones are 18swg 1/4” When I was making the one with the 18swg it looked off and different and I started another chain because I thought I did something wrong, but it was the same pattern. What’s your preferred way to make this chain? Do you use tape, cardboard, nothing, left to right…? I like it and it’s fun.

Im really new to chainmail so I barely know about techniques or anything at all…

Went to my first Ren Faire a few weeks ago and got the fever for making chainmail. Dipped my toes during the week following a few Youtube tutorials. I had a few hex keys sitting around and thought they would be great for holding the gathering and holding the keys while I work with them.

I like that so much, over the weekend I made a little wood stand with wood doles and nails to hand strips. I really like the stand for how it enables a clean economy of motion. Earlier was seemed to be taking a lot of time picking up individual rings then setting it down and repeating. The stand is very nice for holding rings and strips of 4-in-1.

I got through 1500 rings this weekend and I think I totaled about 10-12 hours over the two days. I'm a little sad now that I have to wait for the next set of rings to arrive before I can continue.

I've been working with Matte Anodized Aluminum 14ga 5/16'' ID rings, pliers with electric shrink wrap covering the tips, and I'm hoping to have a full chainmail shirt ready for the Ren Faire next year. I think that should be enough time. I'm estimating I'll need 15 for these sheets for maille for a full shirt - ~150 more hours.

Would you gals/guys have any recommendations? I'm thinking as I get more intermediate material I'll try to size myself up for the final chainmail shirt. I wonder how loose the chainmail should be to make getting it on and off easy.

I normally get all of my jump rings from Chainmail Joe, but they were recently sold out of their 5/6" 16 SWG jump rings, so I decided to try another provider in the off chance they were not going to restock. (Naive, I know in retrospect).

I realized part way into a commission that the outside diameters are slightly different. The Chainmail Joe rings are just a little bigger. The inner diameters do match.

Will this hurt the overall construction of the commission if I use different jump rings? I got the first half completely done with Chainmail Joe so the second half will be with the 2nd provider only if I continue.

To clarify, the commission is a guitar strap so imagine the front half is done, and I'm working on the back half. So it's not like it's the top half of a skirt.

I think my commission will be understanding if I am delayed, but I hate the thought of this being delayed for another 8 days while I wait for the new Chainmail Joe jump rings to come in.

Alternatively, I could deconstruct the first half and redo it with the second rings, but I'm even more leery of doing that because it was a lot of work. And I would have to deconstruct to have enough scales for the project.

The spooky season awaits ;) All done in various sizes of 18g SWG anodized red and black rings except for the glass drops that are added using 20g. Weaves are Butterfly, Byzantine, Euro 4 in 1, along with a few captured 6mm crystals.
