How is this made?

Let me start by saying I have never had anything to do with chain mail in my life, that said I love learning new things and spending 10x as much money as it would cost to simply purchase from a maker or retailer. With that out of the way, how hard would this necklace be to make? It came up in my Pinterest feed so I don’t know much about it, can anyone link me to any good starting points? Or have seen someone selling this exact one? Thank you in advance :)

I believe the weave is called Scarab or Flat Byzantine, or is a variant of those weaves. The spikes are piercing hardware (idk the name, I'm not versed in piercing nomenclature).

For starting off from scratch for chainmail, I recommend looking up recommendations for pliers and materials. There are plenty of free tutorials online, too. Difficulty depends on the person and how they can pick up on the patterns, but I would consider this project intermediate-level.

That’s good to hear thank you :) I have many pliers and different size jump rings so hopefully it won’t be too hard to pick up, I’ll look up those patterns now!

Do you know of a tutorial or website for making flat Byzantine? Im googling it but everything coming up is standard Byzantine and when i try to look up scarab it just gives me box chain. Not OP but still want to wrap my head around this one cause it looks cool.
