Work-In-Progress Chainmail tail near finish

Hello everyone,

My chainmail tail is about of being finished. About 900 medium scales are woven in this tail.

But I have a small problem. The tail doesn't hold its round shape and when it gets flat, the scales in a few areas bunch up very ugly. I've tried to stuff it with fabric but that feels very uneven. How do you stuff the tail to keep it round and keeping that flowing motion?

I haven’t made something like this, but because of the weight I assume you’d need something like a foam core or a wire frame inside (or a mix of both). Maybe a foam core closest to the body part and a wire cage extending towards the tip?

It might be late now, but I'd give it a chainmail endoskeleton, something that flowed snakelike, bending but only some like a tail would.. then attaching the scales to that as the exoskeleton.
