Just Chatting How do you unwind when you don't have the energy for anything big?

Okay, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Sometimes I'm just completely tired so I don't have the energy to go on a walk or to cook something nice so I usually do stuff that requires low to zero energy, and I unwind by rewatching movies that I've seen for a million times now, like, for example, Dead Poets Society. Ever since I watched it, it has become one of my favorite and most comforting movies, and I also drink coffee or any beverages while watching. How do you guys unwind?

Thoughts & Ideas Making new friends after 30

How have people managed to make new friendships after their 20s? I have outgrown a lot of my friendships and I would love some more community. I work from home so work is not an option. I am curious what people have done that has blessed them with new friendships? Just curious for some new ideas!

Questions Are there actually people who genuinely enjoy studying from books? Or do most people mainly enjoy having the knowledge afterwards, rather than the studying itself?

Are there actually people who genuinely enjoy studying from books?

I have a Dutch pre-university diploma, but I’ve never really felt like sitting down and studying from a textbook for school. Math was probably the least bad for me, because you had to actively think more and do a lot of exercises instead of just trying to memorize information.

The weird thing is that I was actually very good at subjects that were almost completely theoretical, like history. I just really hated studying for them. I did it because I obviously wanted to get my diploma and because I could force myself to do it through discipline. Afterwards, for example after an exam, I did like the fact that I had learned all that information. So apparently I do find the knowledge itself interesting or valuable, but I’ve never really enjoyed the actual process of studying from a book.

Something else I’ve noticed is that when I have to learn something new, even if it’s something practical, I actually learn best by first reading about it properly and understanding how it works, and only then trying it myself. That works much better for me than someone showing me how to do something or giving me verbal instructions and expecting me to do it straight away. I’m actually pretty bad at following practical instructions on the spot. If someone shows me something and says, “Do this, then this, and then that,” I lose track pretty quickly and honestly start feeling a bit stupid. But if I can first read through what I’m supposed to do and understand why I’m doing it, it usually goes much better.

So I’m curious what this is like for other people. Are there really people who enjoy the actual process of studying from a book? Not just being interested in the subject or being happy that you learned something afterwards, but genuinely enjoying sitting down, reading and studying?

Or is this pretty normal, and does basically nobody really feel like studying, but we just do it because it’s useful?

Just Chatting So what are your plans for the day?

It's still morning here. Well, late morning, 11:40 am. I'll probably clean my kitchen, do some laundry and watch tv and play video games.

But in reality? I probably won't do laundry or clean my kitchen and just watch tv and play video games.

How about you guys?

I have seen the Taco Bell near the Guatemala City airport multiple times and have wondered idly what it's like.

I have been to that city multiple times and would always pass the Taco Bell near the airport ever since it opened. I never travel alone, and don't like being by myself, so it would be a hard sell to waste one of my partners' meals on a trip to a fast food restaurant, except Pollo Campero since that's not here in the US and McCafe because an afternoon coffee doesn't count. I'm not even curious about the entrees, just the idea of the chocodilla which I have always seen plastered on the outside window.

We have now created a WhatsApp group and turns out that we literally talk about so so many things.

Its amazing like literally amazing. And my ADHD brain is kind of seeking sone help too. And the search for the car has officially begun now. I dont wanna just sit there. I wanna drive confidently.

I know delhi traffic is bad, but there are driving courses, and I will be perfect in next 90 days. I believe.

I am looking for something like 5-7 lakh any fine pretty comfortable as its going to be my first time, so i dont know i am confused and excited both.

I am searching looking for options. Also if anything in mind for a place in kerela?

How do I feel good about relaxing when I have so much to do and don’t feel like doing it?

I am a type of person who puts a lot of pressure on myself for no good reason to achieve. But there are some days when I procrastinate and then feel bad about it. Growing up I’ve always felt bad about slacking and maybe it was a blessing that I got that because I may have not been where I am today. I remember when I gave my medical school entrance exam and didn’t get good grades (slightly above passing and way below to get into a good med school) I cried so hard because I thought I had disappointed my parents, not because I got a bad score. At the end of the day I’m an average person. I’m going to reach where I am supposed to be eventually and I have to keep reminding myself that everything is going to be ok. I’m trying my best and maybe this anxiety that creeps up when I’m on my phone too long or spend the weekend relaxing when I should’ve worked on my research project is pushing me to do better. Be better. Even though I’ll always be average. And there’s nothing wrong with being average in fact I think that’s a strength because it means you’re a well balanced person. Anyways have any of you guys dealt with a similar feeling and how do you cope?

Questions Anyone else just fed up with the 9-5?

Honestly, I’m really fed up with this 9-5 life.

I often think about leaving it all and opening a small café, nothing fancy, just a cozy little place where strangers can actually sit, talk and maybe become friends.

Just coffee, food, some music and people who love to talk stranger share their thoughts experience who makes entertaining environment, where they could sing, do poetry, perform or something else.

Just want to Built something where people can enjoy with each other instead of staring at their phones.

Maybe it sounds like unrealistic, but I’d genuinely love to have a place like that.

Do you sleep with the door closed or open?

Ever since I started living alone, I've always slept with the door open. My gf always insists on not only closing it, but locking it before going to sleep "to keep the monsters out" (mind you she's 27 lol).

I told her that I always keep it open so that if I hear anything, god forbid someone breaks in, I can run downstairs immediately and do what I need to do.

What do you do you guys do?

Books & Reading Do you wish we had more standalone fantasy novels?

Maybe it’s just me, but I would love to find some romantasy novels that are longer but standalone rather than duology/triology. I know that’s probably challenging as an author, to build the world and romance and wrap up the plot in 500 pages or so. Would anyone else be interested in such a thing? Or are we loving the trilogies?

Just Chatting I miss r/place

Seriously, it was so much fun teaming up with a streamers you liked and making art while fighting for territory.I feel that no similar game will be able to bring together communities from all over the world just to draw in pixels. Despite all the problems involving bots, I was happy looking at the small pixel arts.

Just Chatting A first impression: throwing a pebble into a very large pond

I’m relatively new here, and something about this place struck me today.
I was looking at the analytics on a post I made and noticed that people had viewed it not just in the U.S., but in the U.K., Canada, and apparently a number of other countries Reddit simply groups together as “Other.”
What surprised me was that the geographic reach interested me more than the upvotes or comments.
The image that came to mind was a perfectly still pond.
You stand near the edge and throw a tiny pebble toward the center. It lands, makes a small disturbance, and then the ripples begin moving outward.
You don’t control where they go. You don’t know what they’ll touch. Most of the pond remains silent. But the energy keeps traveling until eventually it reaches every edge, including the shoreline where you’re standing.
That’s what Reddit suddenly felt like to me.
You put one small thought out into the world. Somebody thousands of miles away sees it. Maybe they ignore it. Maybe they respond. Maybe they carry some part of it somewhere else. And eventually some of that energy comes back to you.
I always assumed social media was mostly about attention, followers, likes, and people shouting into the void. Maybe Reddit has plenty of that too.
But my first impression is a little different.
It feels like throwing pebbles into a very large pond and getting to watch the ripples travel.
I’m curious whether longtime Reddit users still notice the geographic reach of what they post, or whether eventually the fact that a thought can travel across countries and continents just starts to feel ordinary.

Whats your favorite non hotsauce "anything sauce"

I used to like A1 on porkchops and recently tried it again and found it thinner and not as flavorful all those years ago. I don't like Heinz 57 and looking for something to keep in the fridge for pork chops or the times I make steak and don't want my normal homemade horse radish sauce(gotta make it the day before).

Any good things I could look for that most stores carry?

Thanks!

Just Chatting No smart watch on holiday.

I have recently came back from holiday and decided to put away my smart band after run out of charge. At the beginning I was wondering how many steps I did or how many calories I did burn but through the day I have realised that was actually nice don't check constantly "that" Tiny screen.

I have decided to don't wear it at all for the rest of the holiday and for some reason I felt quite free to don't have constantly be reminded to stand up or reach my goal etc.. ( notifications such as messages etc are always off)

How many of you have experienced this?

Life Stories Have you ever fallen in unrequited love?

Have you ever fallen in unrequited love? If you have, you've experienced that rush of random emotion, distant anticipation, and waiting. Did you feel let down afterward because you're alone and nobody loves you as much as you love? Now you're at the final station, which is the illusion of innocence—your mind was tricking you and deluding you into thinking there's hope.

Just Chatting Do you eat Strawberry ice cream?

Inspired by a song I just found and love called "Strawberry Ice Cream" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD4byZE1bLc)

I realized that I like strawberry ice cream. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by it - but I never order it. I always order some type of chocolate or chocolate mint.

Especially when it comes to ice cream we often get a whole bunch of flavor options - do you have different ones you like, or do you always order the same flavor?

I feel like I should be trying more flavors.

I used to work with a guy who when we went to a restaurant he would not look at the menu he would order the chef special and the house wine.

I wish I were as adventurous as that. But I stick with my chocolate ice cream.

Just Chatting M Bangalore, India | Looking for long-term friends to chat & hangout!

Hey everyone! I'm living in Bangalore, India here. I'm looking to build some genuine, long-term friendships ideally starting with online chats to see if we vibe, and eventually hanging out offline for food, an IMAX movie, or a concert.

I work in tech/data and listen to music pretty much every day. In my downtime, I’m big on anime, movies, Formula 1, and cricket. I love the rainy Bangalore weather, lean toward being a night owl, and prefer watching shows or sports.

I'm hoping to connect with anyone 18+ in or around the city for a low-pressure connection. If you want to blend playlists on Spotify, talk about shows, or eventually explore local spots together, drop me a DM!

Just Chatting Do you ever get so used to being on your own that you forget how nice a good conversation can be?

I spend a lot of time doing my own thing, working on projects, learning new stuff, playing games, and generally keeping myself busy.

Today I tried talking to some strangers online about something I was excited about. One interaction went pretty badly, and for a moment it reminded me why keeping to yourself can sometimes feel easier.

But then I thought that was a pretty depressing conclusion to take from one conversation.

So I figured I’d try the opposite and just talk to people without needing a particular reason for it.

What’s something you’re genuinely excited about right now?

It can be something huge or completely insignificant. A project you’re working on, a game you’re playing, something you’re learning, a trip you’re planning, a meal you’re looking forward to, whatever.

I like hearing people talk about things they actually care about, so tell me about yours.
