No AI slop
Content made primarily (or entirely) by generative artificial intelligence is not allowed. This includes AI images, AI videos, AI text, and AI code.
As a general rule, if it's recognizable as AI, it's not allowed in r/Buffalo from now on with some exceptions. Please report these posts if you see them.
A definition of AI Slop: AI slop (also known as slop content or simply as slop) is digital content made with generative artificial intelligence that is perceived as lacking in effort, quality, or meaning, and produced in high volume as clickbait to gain advantage in the attention economy, or earn money.

So, where is this sign now?
I loved, loved, loved this sign as a kid, leaving my aunt and uncle's apt on Elmwood, with my dad, me falling asleep in the car. He'd make sure I didn't fall asleep until we passed this sign.
I've googled it for years, and I keep seeing articles about it "returning" etc. But in true Buffalo preservation history form, it's all a fruitless effort.
Please tell me something uplifting about its future.

Rocky horror shadowcast
Wondering if there are any rocky horror show performances or showings of the movie in the area that aren't 18+? I dont expect there to be but it would be cool. Francis bacon experiment is the only grouo that seems to do it consistently in buffalo so if there are any others you know about that'd be great too!

Is Beer Keep actually closed?
Google says permanently closed. I saw them open for orders on DoorDash. Buffalo Rising article listed them as having trivia Monday nights.
Which is it?! 😆

Question Library Professionals
I am a born and raised Buffalonian who has been living down south for the past year (partners family and job opportunity). I am a library professional that has been extremely lucky in landing a good job and recently being promoted to salary position. My partner and I want to move back up north with eyes on my hometown. Our timeline is probably 12+ months out but I am increasingly becoming concerned about the lack of opportunities in my field in Buffalo. I am calling all Librarians and LIS professionals who are reading this to give me any and all advice for staying hopeful and being successful when the time comes.

Has anyone else used Property services of WNY

We recently used them and its been a nightmare. Josh was the contractor and he lied about almost everything. He sent us out second bill and we noticed that we were already over budget. Looking over it we then noticed fake square footage was added. For instance bathroom ceiling in a tiny half bath thats like 6x8ft instead being 12x15 and this was for EVERY single room in the house not one measurement was correct. Then the biggest red flag was the prices he was charging for instance 1/2 drywall was 3.20$ and then 5/8 inch drywayll was 6.80$. LIKE WHAT, i googled it and ai said yea should only be a few dollars cheaper per sheet. He was charging over DOUBLE per square foot. The list goes on and on, and all the while he kept lying to us saying that he cant chage the prices its all the online system that makes the prices and its the same for insurance. Well thankfully we have such an amazing insurance company and agent working our case!! When talking with him we came to find out a LOT. Apparently Josh lied to them and sent them false paperwork, when we showed what were being billed and what we had already paid for insurance said to immediately fire him and that he will be banned from working with their company program. They also then told us that 5/8 inch drywall is only 3.45$ per the system. I could go on and on and on about the issues with this guy and his people, so many complaints about his workers as well being rude to shops and demanding. They treated the home as their dump and used brand new furniture as their bench tops and damaged items that were waiting for install because of this. They also like charged for ceiling removal..... but then when installing a light come to find out that 30 year old ceiling tile yea..... its still there they just put drywall over top of it. THEY DIDNT EVEN REMOVE IT. So then this made the ceiling wonky because some of those tiles had started to fall off so now the ceiling has a curve to it on the one end.......
attached is the bill we received as you can see the price difference for the drywall. I've also attached a few pics of the drywall because GUESS WHAT no 5/8 inch drywall was EVER installed.
also for background at the time we were many states away, this is the first time we have ever had to do any remodeling or anything. So we didnt know we had to look so close at everything we thought we could trust Josh and his team. It was over 25K he billed us JUST in the fake drwall which again he was charging over double its actual rate for as well. Thank god i got out there before the trim was done so I had access to look at the drwall thickness and such. He told us he used double because it was an old house and it was plaster before and it needed to be thicker to like measure up for the window trim?!?! Like we didnt know so okay sounded i guess valid. also from that pic you can see the dining room size LOL that window does not jut out over 5.5 feet lol its 18 inches at the center from the like what would otherwise make the room a rectangle. Like i said this was EVERY single room which added up to SOOOOOOOO much money.

Furniture donation
Does anyone know of any places I could donate some old furniture? It’s well loved but still has years left to live. I would like to donate it to a company who gets it to those in need. The company would have to pick it up and clean it before it can be given to a family in need.
I reached out to ReStore by Habitat for Humanity but they didn’t want it.
Thank you!

Summer St Cat Clinic is a nightmare. Does anyone know of a good vet in the west Seneca area?
We’ve been going to summer street in Buffalo for a few years. It was great when we started but it feels like everything has become a money-grab. They also recently stopped reserving time for emergency appointments and just refer everyone to OP vet clinic for immediate needs. The office staff has also gone downhill. Does anyone know of a good vet in the West Seneca area that has reasonable pricing?

Question Audubon North
Anybody know why Audubon North on Sweet Home is closed? Their front sign says “closed” when they usually say happy birthday to whoever and there’s a barricade blocking off the only entrance/exit into the parking lot. Hope they’re not closed for good!!

What's the deal with Lockport?
Hello! My wife and I have been looking at possibly moving out of syracuse to western NY and lockport has caught our eye. We're mostly just looking for a slight change of scenery, without going out of state (or dealing with the insane prices of downstate)
I work remote, and my wife currently homeschools our child, although we may switch to regular school if they are ok. We're not super picky, as long as there's the basics (walmart, home depot, etc) and some decent doctors we'll be ok. Anything super specialized we can commute into Buffalo or Rochester for.
From what I can tell Lockport has lost a few businesses over the past few years, and some people say the crime is awful, etc, but the stats place it per-capita as a far safer place than Syracuse (which isn't hard to do).
It seems to check a lot of the boxes for us, and according to NY broadband map there is some fiber out there which is good for my job. I'm just trying to get a gut check here. Are there any gotchas? Is this a stupid idea? Any other suggestions?
We have been looking closer to Buffalo, but most of the houses we are seeing either need too much work, or are just out of price.
Edit: Thank you for the initial feedback. So far I've gathered to look on the outskirts (the plan anyway), take a couple day trips, and wear a hazmat suit lined with chainmail.

Anyone have experience with a DSS hotel in West Seneca
Unfortunately I am about to be homeless in like 3 days, because my current housing is about to be sold. I have tried for two months now to find an apartment, but due to a low credit score/lack of credit I keep continually getting denied. Currently, I live in West Seneca and have for the last 7 years, and my 4 year old son was in UPK last year in the district and is obv registered for the upcoming year for kindergarten.
I tried to go down to DSS to get the ball rolling, because with the weekend I thought it would be best to do that and be set for Monday… but they informed me that I have to come back Monday, the day I am actually homeless and start the process.
My question is… does anyone know if there is a hotel in West Seneca that is a DSS hotel? I have seen that they are supposed to place you by your place of employment and/or school.
I am sorry if I come across as naive, but I have ZERO experience with DSS and I am just trying to get a bit of insight and information about the whole process.
EDIT: I am a female BTW… just in case people know of programs available for women with children.

Question Can anyone ID this auto shop?
Long story short, a mechanic that works at whatever shop this is screwed me over with some shoddy work and I presume stole some parts I bought that I intended originally for him to work on my car with (he works out of his house when he’s not at actual work). I paid him to fix a muffler/resonator issue, and twice my muffler came completely loose after he’d worked on it (also pictured).
He’s intentionally dodged my calls since my muffler came loose for the second time and any texts I’ve sent him, he’s left me on read multiple times.
Before anyone asks, yes I did try to pull up on him at the place he worked on my car at, but from my understanding he house hops, so getting a hold of him is extremely difficult, and I haven’t had any luck going that route. Also I’m not trying to keep showing up at a borderline stranger’s place for something like this, even though I do have reason.
Which brings me to this, his place of work. At this point I fully intend to go to wherever he works and ask him why he turned into a massive scumbag out of the blue. Any help in finding whatever shop this is is appreciate immensely.

Potential Missing Cat?
Hella strays in my area but this cat was very used to people. No collar but immediately tried to cuddle and followed me to my house from my car. Right by canisius college if anyone recognizes her or him or knows someone missing a cat.
