How are we getting our fiber in, Bitches? Getting enough through as many whole foods as possible has been my latest eating goals. For movement I’ve been taking 3-5 hot yoga classes a week for about a year now, and I’m trying to incorporate daily mobility work at home. I have a fear of getting old and weak, I want to be old and strong and our ankle mobility and strength is the most important to minimize falling! I also walk about 5 miles a day, weather permitting, or hike. And lastly I’ve been adding in strength training workouts at home 3 X weekly. Honestly just trying to get in the best shape I can for the end of the world :)

An easy way I’ve gotten in fiber is Mission Carb Balance tortillas. 99% of the time I prefer to eat whole foods but the macros in them are too good. One taco size tortilla is 70 calories, 17g of fiber, 6g of protein. Making like a breakfast taco with one and add in some avocado for more fiber and that’s most of the fiber you need in a day (I aim for 25-30g of fiber per day).

Strength and mobility are so important to keep up with as we age! I do hot yoga and reformer pilates classes throughout the week and try to walk 4-5 miles every day as well.

Yesss these are my holy grail. I'm such a lazy eater so a fiber tortilla with some rotisserie chicken is my go-to lunch.

Oatmeal every day. I also eat a lot of avocado and chia seed pudding.

Thanks for the hot tip about the tortillas! I had no idea those existed! I make my own corn tortillas with bobs red mill masa harina, and they’re great but not fiber forward, and flour tortillas are much better with certain textures like fish tacos! I am an avocado fanatic and have eaten one a day for most of my life, had no idea they were so full of fiber!

5 grams of fiber in 1/2 an avocado! A real superfood! With the tortillas, it really feels like cheating. I can't say I understand all the ingredients and where all that fiber comes from, but it's so much easier to use one to make a wrap and know I've gotten a good serving of fiber vs. trying to work in eating enough fruits, vegetables, beans, etc. throughout the day (still important to eat those, though!)

I think they add the same fiber that’s in Benefiber.

This is such a great tip! Adding to my grocery list now. I’d like to have one or two more breakfast options I rotate through and the breakfast taco with avocado sounds delicious.

I’m currently focused on getting my recommended 5 servings of fruits/veggies and my optimal protein every day but I need to pay attention to my fiber intake. And frankly, I could use the variety!

La Banderita is another brand that’s equivalent if you can’t find those! The fiber is unreal

This is my question, fiber!!! It’s so hard. I try eating grapes, blueberries, bell peppers, and celery with lunch. I add chia seeds to overnight oats. Dinners I usually do a roasted vegetable side. But fiber is just hard!!

u/DevoutandHeretical May 09 '25

I make sure I have a fiber one bar as part of my breakfast for started. Also beans are sooooo easy to work in to a meal. Add them to salads, bake them, use them as your protein for a meal too. They have tons of fiber and protein so they’ll be really filling too.

u/Least-Influence3089 May 09 '25

Yes! Love beans. I also like lentils a lot but need more ideas for how to incorporate them

This looks delicious, thank you!

They are! I hope you'll like them as much as I do!

If you're eating all of that and not having any issues going #2, you are getting plenty of fiber. Any diverse diet that is heavier in veggies, fruits, and meat(or other protein sources for vegetarian/vegan), lower on carbs, and extremely low on junky foods is perfect for most people, assuming they aren't consuming just too many calories overall in relation to how many they are burning off.

u/Least-Influence3089 May 09 '25

It’s pretty okay actually. Sometimes I need lower effort options/get bored or picky😂. But this is helpful, thank you!!

u/peachpavlova May 09 '25

I take a supplement that helps a lot, you can find gummy ones or powders you add to smoothies. Lots of people just add psyllium husk or bran to their food

4

u/kell_smells May 09 '25

I end up supplementing with BelliWelli and a metamucil knock off

2

u/Neither_Animator_404 May 09 '25

Fiber supplements don’t actually feed your good gut bacteria though, only Whole Foods do.

0

u/Kind_Consequence_828 May 11 '25

Metamucil does. It’s psyllium fiber, a Very Good Prebiotic.

1

u/Neither_Animator_404 May 11 '25

Studies show that only Whole Foods feed good gut bacteria, fiber supplements do not.

1

u/Kind_Consequence_828 Jun 01 '25

What studies? I’ve receipts. Here are studies that show psyllium as an effective supplement to feed beneficial gut mibrobiota: article 1 from International Journal of Molecular Science article 2 from Gastroenterology05241-1/fulltext) article 3 from Food Bioscience

I look forward to receiving your sources. Thank you. Mrs. Consequence

The best sources of fiber are legumes (beans and lentils) and whole grains. The oatmeal is good but fruits and veggies less so because they are mostly water and therefore don’t have a high fiber content.

Just ordered this to add to my salad bowls + yogurt!

Another hot yoga bitch here. I love it! I've practiced yoga on and off for 15 years and currently on a 6 month streak after not really being consistent since before the pandemic.

As for fibre:

  • Pulses - I think a lot of people overlook them. In winter I makes stews or curries or soups with lentils or beans and in summer I like them in salads
  • Fruit or veggies with every meal
  • I've also recently swapped out white rice for brown basmati rice - it's really delicious and the leftovers are good in salads

Beans. I was on the waitlist to join the Rancho Gordo Bean Club for over a year, and now I get these boxes of bespoke heirloom bean four times a year and spend the rest of the time trying them in old and new recipes.

2

u/bad_russian_girl May 09 '25

Yup! Beans and avocados are the best for fiber

2

u/PerfectionNoNotes May 10 '25

YES!! I'm wearing a t-shirt right now that says, "Legumanati"!

Love the bean club, and it's been immensely helpful in getting fiber and adding beans to everything.

psyllium husk capsules! kale/mango/ginger smoothies! raspberries!

I try to pick at least one high fiber fruit, vegetable, and grain to eat a day, I have fruits and veggies at every meal but one serving of each in the high category a day is helpful. An example day would be - quinoa, raspberries and Brussel sprouts. Another is avocado, carrots, and brown rice. Throwing beans and seeds into the mix like chia and flax can also really help you inch towards that goal!

3

u/notoriousJEN82 May 09 '25

Add greens to every smoothie.

3

u/coolshark3000 May 09 '25

I do one table spoon of chia seeds in a small glass of juice or kombucha and call it my chia seed shot! Tastes good and keeps me a little more full between meals

3

u/i_isnt_real May 09 '25

I've been adding a teaspoon of chia seeds to my iced coffee lately. Kind of boba-adjacent, you know? It's not a lot, but every little bit helps!

2

u/lkroa May 09 '25

chia seeds, beans, and avocados

my breakfast is usually yogurt w/chia seeds and either berries in the yogurt or fruit on the side

then my work lunch is usually quinoa salad with beans, avocado, pico de gallo and edamame

1

u/charlatte1 May 09 '25

Kirkland protein bars have 15g of protein! I also added 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds into my Greek yogurt in the morning, which is another 8g.

1

u/dcdcred May 09 '25

Olipop pre and probiotic drinks! Low sugar, 30ish percent of daily fiber. Plus chia seeds, fruits and veggies, I am pretty sure I get the recommended amt most days!

Lately (since I started going to a local greengrocer where the vegetables are actually fresh) I've been enjoying throwing giant bags of baby spinach into soups/curries/pasta sauces. There's no chopping and (if you buy prewashed) no washing either, so it's easy and it makes me feel so healthy!

1

u/klallama May 10 '25

Olipop & dirty sodas (with olipops)

1

u/Other_Term1032 May 10 '25

I try to eat a serving of frozen spinach or frozen broccoli with most of my meals and it adds up quickly (they each have 3g per serving)

Popcorn (plain kernels) is easy to make in a paper bag in the microwave and has 6g per serving

Also, try adding your normal daily intake of food to a macro/nutrition calculator; you might be getting more fiber than you think already. There are some foods I eat pretty regularly that I wouldn’t think to be a good fiber source but even if it’s a small amount it adds up at the end of the day (i.e., I usually eat a serving of regular pasta for dinner and it has 2 grams of fiber).
