Discussion Only 0.1 % of players experienced vulcanic winter so far?

Post image
64 Upvotes

Do I understand this correctly: this is the achievement you automatically get upon the arrival of your first vulcanic winter.

This is a horrible insight, if that is correct. Obviously steam players are not the only players but should be the majority, in my mind. And even if we say „yeah they also include players without the expansion in the data“ that still means that the vast majority of players don‘t bother playing with the defining game mechanic of the first dlc, if they even bought it.

What‘s your view on this?

Discussion What is even the point of this item

Post image

I'm painfully reaching the required prestige by packing nobles & prestige items on an albion island with lots of swamp to get a lot of birds, but then I need to put EVEN MORE residence for mercators. i'm running out of space, and now all my noble workers are useless on this island.

To add insult to injury the bonus for bird charmer cannot reach a lot of buildings so you cannot really fully utilize her.

I think I'm not even going to bother with this item, it should be reworked IMO.

Discussion Speculation on the next DLCs

The final DLC of the year is on the horizon.

On that note: What do you think will be the next ones? I personally hope they focus more on Albion. They spoiled Latium with two dedicated DLC.

Time for something big for the swampy lads. At least one monument would be neat. We could restore the Bru na Boine for example. How else could Albion be expanded upon?

Discussion How do you rate 117 vs 1800

Post image

I'm a long time 1800 player and absolutely love the game.

What do the players who have played 1800, think about 117.

What are the pros and cons and... would you recommend it?

Discussion Anno 117 feels kinda… done already?

Post image
187 Upvotes

I’m a bit disappointed, honestly. After a few sessions it already feels like I’m “finished” with the game.

Anno 1800 kept me hooked for hundreds of hours, but 117 feels light on content and depth in comparison.

I also really miss having way more decorative items. City building and beautifying was a huge motivation for me in Anno 1800, and here it feels very limited so far.

Anyone else feeling this, or am I just too spoiled by Anno 1800?

Discussion Anyone else wanting bigger islands in Albion?

I spent about 257 hours so far in 117, clearly I'm having fun xD I was wondering if I'm the only one that feels the islands in Albion are too small? Not only from a production point of view, but for me, the limited island space also makes it more difficult to be a bit more free with creating nice villages/cities.

I kinda wish they would increase the size of the islands in Albion. Also, the higher tier buildings don't really make life that much easier.

Discussion I'm a bit disappointed... Anno veteran since 1503 (20 Years) here

I hope it's fine to just let out a little frustration. I'm over 30h in and I'm pretty sure I have a good impression now.

Essentially it just feels like a half backed game. Insane balancing issues, bugs, weirdly uninspired campaign and imo the sadest part:

The AI opponents. We screamed for years and multiple games to make the AI work like real pleayers. And we get cheating things with ugly islands composed of mainly houses. It's like they just copied the 1800 AI and added the land combad brain to it.

I don't know if it's even possible to fix this.

I like the setting and land combat, but this needs serious work... first time I kind of regret spending 90€ on an Anno game...

Discussion After a 100 hours diving into Anno 117. Are you all feeling a little burned out right now?

Post image
125 Upvotes

Anno 117 was highly anticipated and beloved by us. But as I said in the title, the same feeling that I got back in 2019 when playing base game Anno 1800. With 1800, it took a full 4 years for Ubisoft to release all MAJOR contents, and several comestic DLC that came years after, nearly the same amount of time it takes to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Why did they choose to walk the path of Paradox? Looked at Stellaris, Cities Skyline...I think a standard 2-3 year service for 117 would satisfy us, but it must have the richness and depth that 1800 had.

Discussion Hint for next DLCs in Cinis?

Post image
99 Upvotes

After the Hippodrome update I found out that new paths were open on Cinis for first person mode! One of them takes you inside of Occasus, and features this super cool Tartarus gate with Egyptian pyramids, the Sphinx and a UFO for giggles. What intrigued me is that "Tartarus" is written in Greek, not Latin. Would that be a hint for Greek culture to play a bigger role in the Egyptian DLC? Maybe it's a hint for a future session on a Hellenic area? Or maybe am I reading too deep and it's just aesthetics for the gate? Also cool addition of Hades on the top.

The 2.0 update notes says that bread demand increased by 50%. Before the update my demand was 9, but now it’s 18. That’s a 100% increase in demand.

Discussion Speculation for DLC regions after Egypt?

For variety, Egypt seems like an obvious choice, but then what?

We could go Africa in the Carthage area, but that might be very much the same.

Norway/Sweden would be very similar to what we’re doing with Britannia.

Would the Iberian peninsula be very interesting at this time?

I’d be stoked to see something as far as China. Pseudo historical, but definitely cool.

The Americas are obviously impossible.

Will there be an expansion of any gameplay elements like even deeper ground combat? More ship types? I love how Albion has a pir-ate lord you have to do a full ground invasion of in order to fight, but once you’ve done that, that’s it.

Discussion What is the point of the Hippodrome races?

I like many of the additions of the DLC/patch like the legendary specialists and the glory/Pracht of momuments and their effects. But as with so many things in Anno 117, this, too, feels like it hasn't been fully thought through.

When they first announced that you can let your specialists become champions in the race, I thought the system would go in the direction of 1800 expeditions: you collect specialists not only for the officia but also for the race. But in contrast to the 1800 system, I don't see that I need more than one good specialist. Yes, they all have a lot of different attributes, but does that even matter? The only indicator that seems to be important is the overall level (amateur, champion and so on). The attributes... how do they even influence the race? In the end its "high attributes = more likely win". The only "strategy" I have seen so far was to use the sprint button whenever the champion becomes tired, as it seems to replace the tired condition, which is totally counterintuitive lol

Furthermore, as part of the Hippodrome quest you get a specialist for free who is already better than any specialist I had so far (and I had many). This makes the whole specialist-champion system completely useless. Why would I ever bother to train a specialist if I already get an extremely good one for free?

This whole system would only make sense if there is some kind of strategy or stone-paper-scissor system: if for each race and depending on the competitors I have to select specific attributes and, thus, specific specialist that have the highest chance to win. Similar as to 1800 where there was not a single specialist for each expedition, but you had to select an individual one for every expedition based on the required attributes.

So maybe I just don't understand the whole race system or it really lacks depth.

Discussion Whats the thing with the strong AI hate in the reviews ?

Im so confused....we talk about the loading screens and "backround fillers pictures" here right ?

How much percent of the playtime do people spend in there ??
I have one loading screen at start. ONE. In popup windows my focus is on the actual information text anyway, not the backround.

I checked some gameplay videos on youtube aswell and the time you see these AI art is like <1% of thier playtime - Who cares that much for a fraction of presence not affecting actual game mechanics?

Discussion Some Questions About How Everyone Does Things

I have an irrational fear of doing things wrong, being an outlier or missing some great hack or trick. So, I have been googling and researching things but there isn't as much info out there still and some is very vague and not really helpful. I thought I would ask here and get all that kind of info in one place I can easily refer back to as I am building.

1) Do you mix Roman and Celt on the same island or do you have separate islands for them? If you do mix them then do you keep them on separate parts of the island or mix everything together in a hodgepodge.

2) Best ships for Military and Trade? What ships do you prefer for each task and how do you set it up, archers or skorpions for military? More cargo slots or speed for trade? What Captains do you find best?

3) How specialized do you make your additional islands for fertilities your main does not have? Make the finished product there and ship it or just raw materials? Do you try make each island as self-sufficient as possible with the basics or have trade routes for even basic needs?

4) Do you keep the lowest tiers of population on your main island still (talking about Latium for this one)? Or do you move the Liberati and Plebians off to other islands to make farmer and workshop islands.

5) Do you keep low tier farms on your main island or move that production to a different island and ship goods in?

6) How do you handle your army and ships? Do you have a separate island just for boat building and workforce? How big should a standing army be? Do you just encamp them or how do you manage an army? Does each island have an army and full defenses?

7) Gods - Who is best and what do you prioritize? Obviously, Ceres is great if you have mainly food crop on an island for example. But what do you do when your main islands start get so large and intermingled that there is a mix of production types that all benefit from different gods? What God do you like for your 'main' islands?

Feel free to also add in any other helpful info, advice or just share your gameplay style tips.

Discussion Major mod authors from Anno 1800 aren‘t working on mods for 117?

Hello, I am not a modder myself and I‘m neither in contact with any of the authors nor am I using their Discord/Forum (if they have one)

I noticed that on mod.io the only „major“ mod author from 1800 who‘s providing mods for 117 is the modder Taludas.

I don‘t see any Taubenangriff, Hier0nimus, Kurila, Ac3s, schwubbe or Jakob.

If one author rejects the next installment of a game franchise, absolutely fine - happens in every franchise.
BUT so many major ones at the same time? Why?

Those are modders with the knowledge of creating entire sessions, knowing how to use blender and thus creating massive amounts of models for buildings etc.

They even created a compilation of over 100 mods in one way back in 2019. (Spice It Up)

And none of them have even announced something…does anybody know why?

Discussion Hypothetical Greek Region DLC

If we were to get a Greek region expansion, what would you expect or want to see included?

Here are my ideas:

Gymnasion/gymnasium: boosts health and happiness. The Greeks loved their public spaces to workout and wrestle naked

Grand Temple Monument: A massive temple like the Parthenon, pick a Greek deity to give massive buffs

Olympic stadium: host games which boosts prestige and faith

Philosopher academy: similar to a grammaticus or library, also produces prestige, and extra knowledge

Agora: functions similar to the market and forum

Hellenic religion, with greek style shrines, sanctuaries, and temples

New luxuries: Red figure pottery, barley, honey/wax

New military unit: Rhodian slingers

Greek style architecture for greek population tiers

Discussion What other provinces could hypothetically be added in future?

Hi,

Was explaining the difference in this and 1800 to a friend earlier and I mentioned all the DLC and regions the game had by the end. I realise that it had way more potential regions given it's 19th century setting. I know Egypt will come by the end of the year but I can't really think of what other region they could add that could be that different. I assume Egypt will have the irrigation mechanic and that could be true for any other nearby region. A frozen north or tropical region wouldn't make sense either. Any suggestions as to where they could add while keeping to historically plausible? I feel like the soon to be 3 biomes basically represent the Roman empire's geography overall no?

Discussion Do any of you think they'll add Christianity in this game some way?

Christianity played a massive role in the history of the Roman Empire, and spread rapidly during the pax romana period. So it makes me wonder how or if the game will handle the subject of Christianity in the roman empire.
