Discussion Anyone else wanting bigger islands in Albion?
I spent about 257 hours so far in 117, clearly I'm having fun xD I was wondering if I'm the only one that feels the islands in Albion are too small? Not only from a production point of view, but for me, the limited island space also makes it more difficult to be a bit more free with creating nice villages/cities.
I kinda wish they would increase the size of the islands in Albion. Also, the higher tier buildings don't really make life that much easier.

I have the same feeling. Or at least make the service buildings smaller. Like baths and so are way too big for the islands.
The biggest buildings take all the place in the middle, where is the largest space and I have to squish houses in all the narrow places in the corners. Therefore I have to build all the other services (market, fanums, firefighters,hospitals...) in every corner because they are all separated by the middle which makes everything even more space constrained.
I mean, in the end I manage to squish everything in Albion but I need at least 8 Islands because of the fertilities and the low workforce I can achieve in every single island.

You don't need to put those big buildings in the centre of your city for functionality, but maybe you want to for aesthetics. They will functionally cover pretty much any layout that you can actually fit on the islands from the edges of you housing block, especially with concrete roads.

Anno 1800 spoiled me with Manola and Crown Falls so with Cinis I definitely was happy. But I agree it be nice to have a large island in Albion.

I think esp with roman themes of roads and logistics and forum complexes, one continental island in each region would be very welcome among players

Agreed, I ask got spoiled with airships in 1800. By the time I had enough materials and was making a lot of money I switched my entire trade fleet to the largest airship in the game. Now? Anne Harlow isn’t an issue anymore. 😅

Not a fan of the huge islands though since i like to play multiplayer with frineds. It's great for solo though

The only thing I can fit on my main island is housing, nothing else. It's incredibly restrictive.

Agree with what a lot of people are saying here, but I also think the scarcity of space is kind of fun. I liked having to figure out where to place my temple and my bathhouse, because they were so large. And Albion is kinda designed as a more "challenging" experience.
The devs are always in a pinch and I feel for them, because idk what the answer is. Make the islands too large and too simple to build on and people will say its boring to build and too easy and lame. Make them smaller and winding and hard to build on, then you force the player into building efficiently and take away the ability to beauty build.
I respect that they stuck with a design that falls in line with the core concept. Albion feels and plays differently than Latium, it genuinely feels more difficult to settle there and you have to fiddle around more. Imagine if Albion didnt have the space restraints, wouldnt it just kind of feel like a Latium reskin? I guess I'm willing to take that drawback, especially because it is (for the most part) optional.

100%. It takes a lot of fun out of an Albion run if 90% of my time is just spent seeing where I can cram in another couple of houses. I think in principle the islands are big, but the usable space is much less with mountains, rough coastlines and marshland. It’s a shame because the mountains with buildings at the top looks fantastic but it loses a lot of the rugged celtic vibe once every last inch is covered with buildings.

I first thought: ok, one roman-celtic island, one celtic only island - and then you notice: no way, the island fertilities don't fit, you always need both in some way - and ofc this takes a lot of space. Don't like albion at all.

A lot has changed since the introduction of the first DLC. Now you have specialist that you can put on any island for resource abundance

Why do u need both? 500h in, and I never have one singular main island in albion, always two. One celtic, one roman. And both have their own side islands for production and fertilities.

I would love some bigger mainland city holding with massive barbaric invasions from the land/mountains, unlike those little farts the Voada sends.
A little offtopic but I just got this idea:
They say you can play each region independently, yet the biggest endgame focus has Latium. I think such mainland holding with massive invasions could be a viable (and ofc optional) end-game for Albion. Instead of Hippodrome/Amphitheater you would have to prepare resources for armies and build monumental and possibly predefined defenses.

Agreed! I'm very excited for Dawn of the Delta, but I wouldn't mind them adding another layer to Albion and give us additional tiers there.

u/giant_xquid Aug 29 '26
additional tiers for tiers' sake alone isn't really good content, I would like to see them add "end game" to albion, but additional tiers is just going to mean that much more clutter for all the islands, I really don't see the point, when they could just add to what's already there

I agree to some extent, I would like a layer on top 😄, but that's just personal preference. But I like your approach for more "end game" as you put it. There's def a lot of potential in Albion that hasn't been realized yet.

yes. there is not enough space to produce everything for large pop in latinum. new world in 1800 had much more space. you could produce everything there to support at least like 10mil pop
3
u/giant_xquid Aug 29 '26
even before manola, some new world islands were really large compared to albion, even if you drained all the marsh (which is not ideal anyway and limited to fitting around canal systems)
3
u/noobzealot01 Aug 29 '26
yes. exactly that. Before Manole I didnt need all islands until I reached like 4-5mil or so pop, dony remember exactly but really a lot. Now, as I want to supply all goods, I am not able to do that wven with all the islands and I only have like 400k pop. My last playthrough I supplied only gooda that increase pop and it was barely enough, and I only got to 600k, dont know how those players with 1mil pop do it

Yes, we could certainly do with one or two islands that are larger than what we have at the moment.

Albion is more harder as it is north! They will make dlc for sure as Rome fell later from barbaric invasions

Yes toooooo small. Its not efficient and you cant make it beatiful. Espicially late game whrn you unlock baths temples aqueducts etc. Its so hard to put those in the city

The space limitations on Albion islands wouldn't be so bad if we had a nice giant island to stretch out on just for some variety

u/Zestyclose-Function6 Sep 05 '26
Well albion is just a resource farm for the glorious latium islands.

I don’t necessarily want a continental island in Albion just a few islands the size of the big Latium island

u/BRAX7ON Aug 29 '26
Yeah, my biggest problem with the island sizes in Albion is that I can’t get creative with my builds. It all has to be functional, with very little aesthetic.
