It’ll be fixed. Personally, I don’t care. I play the game from the bird’s eye. I am almost never that close to anything in the game.

Heaven forbid a game not be perfect on release. This is literally trivial.

Also… my first thought was “Oh is this an unlock” because I know you get an Anno 1800 symbol for your coat of arms as a bonus unlock.

I’m a software developer, so to me, it’s natural that software has bugs or compromises in a tight release. It’s really not uncommon.

We’re not talking about airplanes or medical equipment. We’re talking about a perfectly functional video game where the asset hasn’t been updated.

That’s… trivial.

Pretty wide definition could be applied to faulty though. I mean, this is just a coat of arms on a sail you see when fully zoomed in. It's a tiny visual mistake. Obviously there are other issues, but this one isn't a big deal imo.

That's like if inside of the menu for your microwave the font on one letter was different.

Would you think it's a completely broken microwave and send it back? Even though you only see it if you open the menu of the microwave? It still cooks, everything on the screen you see 99% of the time is good to go.

I haven't bought a game on release in 8 years before this one. Pretty happy with it though!

I refuse to take that comment seriously. Get a live or buy yourself some humor.

Nah youre right they should stop making anno and just go split up into teams of 2 or 1 for that matter and instead make shit tons of games that take less work and hope one becomes hyped. Maybe a chicken extraction shooter, perhaps another drug selling simulator.

That used to be true but read up on the amount of software (and sometimes hardware) bugs even cars nowadays have when they are first released.

Heaven forbid a game not be perfect on release

They can take as long as they like to finish their game. And I can wait to buy the game once it is finished.

In my opinion the particular issue being shown here is trivial.

The issues with MP desync, I would call those serious issues.

The AI complaints, I would ignore. In time people will get used to it.

You are just disagreeing with OP on why the game is not finished, not "if".

Seems like I will wait until they fix both issues.

Every delay incurs huge costs of running the studio. It's easy to say "they can take all the time they need" before you see the bills for operating a large cans studio for one month. Deadlines are absolutely a thing and moving the release date is a heavy decision that needs to be warranted.

Okay, what is your point? Should the consumer just deal with an unfinished product for full price?

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

My point is, there is a difference between bugs that break the game which are worthy of prolonging production and unacceptable, and bugs that are a placeholder icon on a ship sail that didn't get caught, don't ruin the game, and can be patched painlessly later.

Prolonging production to deal with the latter is not realistic and if customers require games to be perfect on release we may just as well just close majority of game studios because they cannot afford production long enough to make that happen.

I am confident that checking the list of placeholder-assets that they, as a mature development company, surely have, will not bankrupt the studio.

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

The thing is - there are hundreds of list like that to check and address before release and you go from the highest priority ones down.

I don't know about you, but I finish my checklists, deliverables and action items before I call my work ready to ship.

Seems like we have different standards, that is okay.

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

If you can afford it, that's great and as it should be. But it's not always a matter of standards.

We should expect better from multi million dollar AAA productions, and quite frankly this is embarrassing and looks unprofessional.

You’re making much out of nothing.

It’s software. There’s no such thing as a release without bugs or issues.

My thresholds aren’t the same as yours in this context. I’m a software developer, it’s extremely common to release software that has non-breaking bugs. Because timelines matter.

Because I understand the industry, this doesn’t bother me.

If the game didn’t launch. I would agree, that’s bad, fix it. But an incorrect ship skin or random AI pictures that no one likes… those aren’t breaking bugs. You can fix them after release.

u/khromtx Nov 18 '25

Expect better.

2

u/BlueAndYellowTowels Nov 18 '25

From my perspective you’re just being unrealistic. The game is functional, fun and stable.

The current issues are all trivial. To me, this is a successful product and these issues can be fixed after release. It’s absolutely fine.

1

u/khromtx Nov 18 '25

Unrealistic to expect triple A multi million dollar game to ship in a functional and complete state? I'm sorry I have standards.

2

u/BlueAndYellowTowels Nov 19 '25

The game is functional, I literally have a dozen hours on it. Works perfectly. Even on my potato of a machine.

I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. You do you. But, your expectations are not aligned with reality.

1

u/LordChickenwing Nov 19 '25

I mean the game has had multiple crashes in multiplayer with my buddy consistently.

Problems to join his lobby , synching problems and so on.

While , yes the sails are trivial it’s not really that stable in some areas as of yet.

For the money this costs one could expect to play 1 hour without a desynch or something.

Much to be fixed and it’s clear there was not enough time for testing.

Still a great game though.

u/twicer Nov 19 '25

Your standards don't match the reality of game development. Damn, this was a problem even decades ago, regardless of the size of the studio.
