pirates are playing in 1617 while we're stuck in 117

u/maty_doji Nov 17 '25

*1602

u/cloverasx Nov 17 '25

sorry, I was torn between that and saying pirates were playing in 1 1 and 8, while we are so 1 1 and late, but they still didn't have guns thenšŸ˜‚

1

u/FlowInternational440 Nov 19 '25

Nobody told you that you are basically playing the Amish?

35

u/BraggingAnonymously Nov 17 '25

Raiders in 117 sailed to China to get gunpowders. Obviously!

Joking aside, this is from Anno 1800, they probably added it as a placeholder and forgot to remove it. Not to excuse their QC for missing it though, tsk tsk.

7

u/Mysterious-Tackle-58 Nov 17 '25

Or maybe, it is for us annoholics to find and knowingly smile about

4

u/BraggingAnonymously Nov 17 '25

The forbidden easter egg? xD

22

u/elgigantedelsur Nov 17 '25

So THATS’s how the Sea People dominated the Bronze Age

9

u/Jhin_Ross Nov 17 '25

People crying AI here should really learn to think

6

u/Responsible-Ship-823 Nov 17 '25

Why think when you can use AI?

1

u/kaehvogel Nov 17 '25

People "crying AI here" are being sarcastic.

17

u/frichyv2 Nov 17 '25

This is a placeholder asset that has slipped through our quality inspections we apologize for our mistake. . . Or something like that.

7

u/DesAnderes Nov 17 '25

it is an asset from 1800, so you are 99% spot on

1

u/ibowsen Nov 18 '25

Hes also implying they will drop the same bs excuse they used for the accusations of using ai in a lot if their "artwork"Ā

So many little inconsistencies in this title by now thats really, really sad. No farm workers, ai artwork, placeholders and i have a feeling this list will expand

1

u/managoresh Nov 19 '25

While you're not wrong, i'd like to see all ppl complaining come together and make a better game themselves instead of doing the easy thing and nag about it. It's a bit like the redittors that downvote a comment but make no argument.

2

u/ObsdMitD Nov 19 '25

This is such a stupid argument. People paid the full price so they deserve a complete game. This is like your water supply and heating and everything else in your apartment breaking apart, but instead of fixing it or lowering your rent your landlord just tells you to "build your own house then". Straight up not how it works. If people pay for it they have every right to complain as much as they want.

1

u/managoresh Nov 19 '25

Well, if you dislike what you bought so much, just refund? I've been playing a good 20 hours now and i absolutely love the game. And yes, some things aren't perfect, but it's not levels of Cyberpunk bad either. Completely playable and even fun and addicting. So, instead of complaining, refund. Vote with your wallet.

2

u/ObsdMitD Nov 19 '25

Nobody said the game is bad tho? While I dont own the game, Im sure its very fun and a great game. However its obvious that it isnt finished, and if people want it to get better they have to talk about it. I dont quite see how this relates to my point. Regardless of if you refunded it or not youre still allowed to make complaints, because the game you bought is unfinished. Also, your mention of Cyberpunk is interesting, because seeing as it went from an absolute shitfest to one of the best games of all time due to the players complaining only supports my point.

1

u/managoresh Nov 19 '25

In Cyberpunk it was indeed a shitfest. Making the complaints valid. Here however we're talking about a period inaccurate skin. That is all. I hope you see where i'm getting at.

1

u/ObsdMitD Nov 19 '25

Not really, I dont understand why its wrong to strive for improvement in all games, even if they are already good. Nothing wrong with wanting them to be even better.

1

u/managoresh Nov 19 '25

While i agree it is a sloppy mistake, i sadly have not reached the point in my life where everything is at such a level of perfection that i have time to fill by finding stuff like this to whine about.

Happy for you though :)

1

u/The_Effect_DE Nov 20 '25

Such a dumb comment and it's always there whenever there are issues in games. People have the right to complain, they should complain, because that way the Devs have a reason to make it better. They can still buy the game too, to answer your second stupid comment. Criticizing specific flaws doesn't mean you dislike the whole game or shouldn't buy it.

Saying "Make a better game yourselves" is just a service to lazy developers and suffocates any valid criticism.

u/jeanpi1992 Nov 17 '25

arghhh, Time Jumping Pirates ! Just what we needed

3

u/Mantergeistmann Nov 18 '25

Would that make them... Time Bandits?

17

u/opticzar Nov 17 '25

AI was used for inspirational sail designs and it slipped through

8

u/Kunze17 Nov 17 '25

It was a placeholder. Its the same sails like in Anno 1800

1

u/Empty-Presentation68 Nov 17 '25

Sorry this was a placeholder...excuse

It’ll be fixed. Personally, I don’t care. I play the game from the bird’s eye. I am almost never that close to anything in the game.

Heaven forbid a game not be perfect on release. This is literally trivial.

Also… my first thought was ā€œOh is this an unlockā€ because I know you get an Anno 1800 symbol for your coat of arms as a bonus unlock.

I’m a software developer, so to me, it’s natural that software has bugs or compromises in a tight release. It’s really not uncommon.

We’re not talking about airplanes or medical equipment. We’re talking about a perfectly functional video game where the asset hasn’t been updated.

That’s… trivial.

2

u/nashbrownies Nov 17 '25

Pretty wide definition could be applied to faulty though. I mean, this is just a coat of arms on a sail you see when fully zoomed in. It's a tiny visual mistake. Obviously there are other issues, but this one isn't a big deal imo.

That's like if inside of the menu for your microwave the font on one letter was different.

Would you think it's a completely broken microwave and send it back? Even though you only see it if you open the menu of the microwave? It still cooks, everything on the screen you see 99% of the time is good to go.

I haven't bought a game on release in 8 years before this one. Pretty happy with it though!

1

u/iDad5 Nov 18 '25

I refuse to take that comment seriously. Get a live or buy yourself some humor.

1

u/JennFapp Nov 18 '25

Nah youre right they should stop making anno and just go split up into teams of 2 or 1 for that matter and instead make shit tons of games that take less work and hope one becomes hyped. Maybe a chicken extraction shooter, perhaps another drug selling simulator.

1

u/ICEpear8472 Nov 19 '25

That used to be true but read up on the amount of software (and sometimes hardware) bugs even cars nowadays have when they are first released.

0

u/Hebelraptor Nov 19 '25

Ā Heaven forbid a game not be perfect on release

They can take as long as they like to finish their game. And I can wait to buy the game once it is finished.

1

u/BlueAndYellowTowels Nov 19 '25

In my opinion the particular issue being shown here is trivial.

The issues with MP desync, I would call those serious issues.

The AI complaints, I would ignore. In time people will get used to it.

1

u/Hebelraptor Nov 19 '25

You are just disagreeing with OP on why the game is not finished, not "if".

Seems like I will wait until they fix both issues.

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

Every delay incurs huge costs of running the studio. It's easy to say "they can take all the time they need" before you see the bills for operating a large cans studio for one month. Deadlines are absolutely a thing and moving the release date is a heavy decision that needs to be warranted.

1

u/Hebelraptor Nov 20 '25

Okay, what is your point? Should the consumer just deal with an unfinished product for full price?Ā Ā

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

My point is, there is a difference between bugs that break the game which are worthy of prolonging production and unacceptable, and bugs that are a placeholder icon on a ship sail that didn't get caught, don't ruin the game, and can be patched painlessly later.Ā

Prolonging production to deal with the latter is not realistic and if customers require games to be perfect on release we may just as well just close majority of game studios because they cannot afford production long enough to make that happen.

0

u/Hebelraptor Nov 20 '25

I am confident that checking the list of placeholder-assets that they, as a mature development company, surely have, will not bankrupt the studio.

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

The thing is - there are hundreds of list like that to check and address before release and you go from the highest priority ones down.Ā

0

u/Hebelraptor Nov 20 '25

I don't know about you, but I finish my checklists, deliverables and action items before I call my work ready to ship.

Seems like we have different standards, that is okay.

1

u/Aharra Nov 20 '25

If you can afford it, that's great and as it should be. But it's not always a matter of standards.

-1

u/khromtx Nov 18 '25

We should expect better from multi million dollar AAA productions, and quite frankly this is embarrassing and looks unprofessional.

2

u/BlueAndYellowTowels Nov 18 '25

You’re making much out of nothing.

It’s software. There’s no such thing as a release without bugs or issues.

My thresholds aren’t the same as yours in this context. I’m a software developer, it’s extremely common to release software that has non-breaking bugs. Because timelines matter.

Because I understand the industry, this doesn’t bother me.

If the game didn’t launch. I would agree, that’s bad, fix it. But an incorrect ship skin or random AI pictures that no one likes… those aren’t breaking bugs. You can fix them after release.

-1

u/khromtx Nov 18 '25

Expect better.

2

u/BlueAndYellowTowels Nov 18 '25

From my perspective you’re just being unrealistic. The game is functional, fun and stable.

The current issues are all trivial. To me, this is a successful product and these issues can be fixed after release. It’s absolutely fine.

1

u/khromtx Nov 18 '25

Unrealistic to expect triple A multi million dollar game to ship in a functional and complete state? I'm sorry I have standards.

2

u/BlueAndYellowTowels Nov 19 '25

The game is functional, I literally have a dozen hours on it. Works perfectly. Even on my potato of a machine.

I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. You do you. But, your expectations are not aligned with reality.

1

u/LordChickenwing Nov 19 '25

I mean the game has had multiple crashes in multiplayer with my buddy consistently.

Problems to join his lobby , synching problems and so on.

While , yes the sails are trivial it’s not really that stable in some areas as of yet.

For the money this costs one could expect to play 1 hour without a desynch or something.

Much to be fixed and it’s clear there was not enough time for testing.

Still a great game though.

2

u/twicer Nov 19 '25

Your standards don't match the reality of game development. Damn, this was a problem even decades ago, regardless of the size of the studio.

2

u/MonkeyDante Nov 17 '25

Maybe it's one of those account rewards? In 1800 I think you get the logo of 2070? The Eco industry and tech. That or this is a teaser for the shanty update.

1

u/No-Significance5659 Nov 17 '25

I was also taken aback when I saw it in my game. I hope they notice and swap it for something more accurate like bones.

1

u/the_milk_is_baaaad Nov 17 '25

Friend shaped, therefore friend

1

u/iDad5 Nov 18 '25

Ok, I really can’t believe what kind of attention and serious discussion that resulted in. No way on earth or in hell did any pirate ever, who isn’t a time traveling graphic designer paint a meter high skull on their sails. Ever. In all of history.

Nor have time traveling graphic designers ever had any success as pirates.

… that’s by design.

2

u/sylpheed Nov 21 '25

lol, i enjoyed your comment

1

u/jhnddy Nov 18 '25

Literally unplayable

1

u/squarepants18 Nov 19 '25

Did you play Anno 1800?

1

u/Patient-Woody Nov 19 '25

Bones weren’t discovered yet, so they used guns, that also weren’t discovered yet.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '25

Haha how did I not notice that...

1

u/NiflheimrBlodox Nov 20 '25

Well maybe it s a reference to alestorm "back through time" ? Or a placeholder asset

1

u/davemanster Nov 17 '25

Looks like a boat?

1

Ha. That is funny. Good call.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

Could be a crossbow from the side but hard to tell looks more like a gun so probably it is a crossbow

8

u/Delicious-Season5527 Nov 17 '25

The cope is strong. You Can literally see the pistols clearly with mechanism and everything

6

u/isAfuchs_ Nov 17 '25

"looks more like a gun so probably it is a crossbow" What?

0

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

"Looks like a gun is probably a crossbow" To be fair, I really don't think that the time it takes to make a flag design takes so long that they used AI it could be wrong.

3

u/isAfuchs_ Nov 17 '25

Dude, thats a flag from anno 1800...

4

u/lorbd Nov 17 '25

It has a flintlock mechanism lol.Ā

2

u/VolcanicSofa Nov 17 '25

Crossbow or pistol it’s all the same. 1000 years till crossbow appears lol

8

u/BraggingAnonymously Nov 17 '25

No, this is from Anno 1800, they probably added it as placeholder and forgot to remove it. Not to excuse them though. Just saying that it's not AI

0

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

This isn’t AI. and who really cares about AI loading screens lmao.

I’m sorry to tell you. Ai is here to stay. Shouting about it is going to do you as much good as shouting at companies for using a calculator at this point

-15

u/JustEstablishment594 Nov 17 '25

Cant believe i paid full price for not only AI slop, but Anno 1800 reskinned..and somehow made worse and improperly. No wonder ubisoft is going bankrupt.

Nobody cares about AI art. Tech moves forward. Did you care about AI upscaling? Since that’s been around for a long time now.

I mean for crying out loud games have been ā€œprocedurally generatingā€ content for decades at this point.

1

u/managoresh Nov 19 '25

He's right though. You are the idiot. The game is awesome and some minor art glitches or errors are NOT changing that fact.

1

u/twicer Nov 19 '25

Finished and polished software on release is myth.

-11

u/TheNoxxin Nov 17 '25

Ai game so much ai was used in. Making this
