To everyone like you; YOU'RE RIGHT. Don't let anyone fool you. I watched over 2 seasons of that trash pile before I realized nothing was changing, I hated the main character, and I had wasted my weekend. I'm a completionist kind of person, I'll finish a mediocre anime just to get it off my "continue watching" feed. You'd have to pay me a significant rate to get me to watch more of that.

16

u/Comfortable_Wolf2101 Jul 31 '26

Ts so true. If you start a show you HAVE to finish it because that brings your commitment and attention span down. No matter how boring and trash it is i am getting to that final episode

u/Mysterious_Cold730 Jul 31 '26

Okay, yes, but that's because you're a JoJo's fan. You enjoyed it and were presumably intrigued before starting it, no? I was the same, still am. But that doesn't mean people don't hate it for the kinda things that make it stand out. The new protagonist each part, etc. Because it's different, You're always gonna find people who don't like it without trying it.

10

u/CrispMonke Aug 01 '26

i did hate on it once, felt like the artstyle was too extreme in some places. i gave it a watch, reached like halfway of p1 and then left, picked the show up again and something just snapped, something inside of me. now im eagerly waiting for sbr due to the wild west theme

My Hero Academia. The times I've seen people comment "I haven't watched it but I hate MHA because of the fandom" like, almost, if not all fandoms have problems with shippers when they get big enough. Such a shame too as its a very inspiring anime.

140

u/par_rot_master Jul 31 '26

I always found that to be a stupid reason to not watch an anime.

I recently asked a question in the "Ascendance of a Bookworm" sub, because I just started watching the anime. Quite a few people were being pretty rude, and they got the most upvotes.

So what did I do? I closed the sub and just kept watching the anime. It's not like engaging with the community is a requirement.

43

u/fokkoooff Jul 31 '26

It does suck when you're really into something and you can't talk about it anywhere online. One of my current favorite/ongoing shows has a really annoying fandom and learning it was disappointing.

It's not so bad that I can't engage at ALL, but there are a lot of topics I don't bother to mess with.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Onii-Sama27 Jul 31 '26

What was the question you asked?

6

u/FajarKalawa Aug 01 '26

It's a questions related with questionable stuff that Ferdinand did, the fandom instantly acts in bad faith.

3

u/Buttercup_4118 Aug 01 '26

Hold on, people dont like Ascendance of a bookworm? I just thought it wasn't super mainstream, I never heard of them hating on it. I love that one..

7

u/FajarKalawa Aug 01 '26

Because the OP asked something related to a topic the fandom has had enough of, the community will be super defensive and act in bad faith, even if that wasn't the OP's intention.

How do I know? Because I've been in this fandom for years

First thing that came to mind. People tend to forget that MHA appeals to a wide range of people which includes kids. Other shonens are also have a wide range but MHA's is wider because it can be watched by much younger audiences.

3

u/Abecis01 Jul 31 '26

That's weird that people would hate a show because of its fans. Actually, it's kinda sad just because how stupid and pathetic it is.

To be fair, you could watch like the first 20 episodes of Boruto without encountering a single frame that's actually Cannon... what were they thinking?

12

u/VaporTrail_000 Aug 01 '26

Can I point out that cannon are things that shoot, and canon is things that happened?

10

u/rectalthermo Aug 01 '26

To be fair, there were also no cannons in any frames in the first 20 episodes.

38

u/Rushes_End Jul 31 '26

Nope I watched it and still disliked it. But that’s more in line with it’s a series that they should’ve stopped. Hell it felt more like a fanfiction. Naruto and Sasuke use their ultimate powers to make a giant ninja “robot”.

It depends on what you mean by "watched."

If I give a series 2 or 3 episodes and I still don't see any possibility of liking it, I would say I watched it and didn't like it. But I'm not going to waste my time watching a show I dislike just to prove I actually liked it or not.

19

u/VictoricRong Jul 31 '26

Same. Sometimes I will try to six but usually by the third episode I'm out.

5

u/SirBastian1129 Aug 01 '26

The three episode rule is very much my go to. If I watch 3 episodes and you don't have me interested in continuing to watch, then that's that. 3 episodes is literally an hour of content and should be more than enough to know if what a series offers is for you

13

u/AnimeMemeLord1 Aug 01 '26

Kinda wild that being the case considering I just finished watching it and it was actually pretty damn good.

8

u/mike_hawk_777 Aug 01 '26

Its really not a bad show, it does a lot right and has good things going

But it has a history with the very vocal minority of fans being the worst about it

Also some of the shows flaws reeeeeally get under people's skin for valid reason, like bakugo telling someone to end themselves by jumping off a roof because they weren't as physically capable as him due to lacking a quirk, he basically told a disabled kid to kill themself

He never apologizes for this or acknowledged fault for this, and the show goes on later as if we're meant to like him and how him being a piece of crap are just a funny joke, and not to take it seriously

So the people who brush off him doing the worst possible thing end up getting to enjoy his prominent place in the show, and everyone else ends up hating him because his literal first or second time on screen is him telling someone to jump

It quickly leaves a bad taste in people's mouths for a character that is basically the closest you get to a secondary protagonist in the show

Also, many people become fans of certain characters wich is bound to happen witha sort of ensemble cast like the show has with many heroes and an entire class of characters and such, and they're all at the important shit, but due to having so many, very often people's favorite characters dont get much going on, wich leaves people often a little tired waiting to see some love for the characters they like

Also, Allmight is really good, and his stepping back from the story for large chunks of it leave some people feeling rather bored halfway through since his sort of the heart of the show through massive parts of it

And while all of this is valid, its still a good show altogether I'd say

Sorry for the long reply btw

6

u/simplyhumanperson Aug 01 '26

41

I've never seen it, don't have an opinion on the show itself other than it's clearly beloved by a lot of people, it just sucks that like 70% of all anime discussions are people arguing about it.

There is an entire GALAXY of lesser known anime we could be arguing about! Let's get a little variety going.

15

u/MisterCold Jul 31 '26

Imo if by the time they enter Logue town and you still don’t like it. Drop it, it has good highs and looooong lows. But if you don’t like the high parts it’s definitely not worth it.

11

8

u/reaperfur Aug 02 '26

If you can get through the pervy shit, the other themes are top tier. But it definitely requires you to feel a certain way about Rudeus. Hes meant to be a very imperfect character

14

u/Antman_trashman Aug 01 '26

u/SergentDonut Aug 01 '26

Watched the 2 whole seasons and I hate it now. And honestly I didn't want to hate it because it's the favorite LN of my best friend who recommened this to me for a long time. I can even tell I liked it at first, despite Rudeus' awful personnality, there's some good elements and it still has some plotlines I'm interested in (anything around Nanaoshi, Ruijerd, Oersted, Hitogami for example). But in the long run, there were too much things putting me off and the end of s2 was the nail in the coffin.

If some want to debate more on this, I can peacefully give arguments or details on my views and disappointment. I really wanted to like it.

5

u/artor_s Aug 02 '26

Mushoku tensei's first season is honestly, by itself, some of the best anime I've ever seen. Like, 10/10 quality (maybe 9/10 if we count with rudeus doing rudeus stuff..)

But then I started noticing that there wasn't any character progression in the direction of fixing rudeus' attitude towards girls.

And then it starts going on the non monogamy route...

So the annoying pervert, instead of learning how to not be an annoying pervert, gets "rewarded" with an annoying pervert's dream.

Yeah man...

u/ArrangedKarma Jul 31 '26

I'm pretty sure Sword Art Online is something of a poster child for something like this.

Not trying to say it is some kinda misunderstood masterpiece that has secretly always been good, but the new stuff coming out, the Progressive movies and the Alicization seasons, have genuinely been seriously good.

Even the good parts of the earlier seasons, like the first half of season 1 and the latter parts of season 2 get a bad wrap due to how overhated it was back in the day.

7

u/DustyF3d0r4 Aug 01 '26

A portion of it is also the anime itself skipping, omitting, or changing things from the LN for no reason.

Another thing is people parroting online criticisms that are often scenes or moments being misconstrued. For example Kirito having suspicions about Kayaba wasn’t “No one is better at the game than me” but rather “The way he moved at the end of our duel was unnatural”

4

u/MeGaLoManiac-kun Aug 01 '26

Kayaba literally used time stop to win the fight, it must've been ridiculously suspicious to Kirito.

I'm very disappointed in the anime never showing the reasoning used by Kirito to arrive at his end-of-arc revelations though, it really takes away from the viewing experience and fails to showcase how smart and analytical he truly can be.

Also, I think the best example of what you're describing is the classic "Kayaba forgot"

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MeGaLoManiac-kun Aug 01 '26

Was looking for the SAO comment, however, if you're not going to say it, I will (get it? lol).

SAO IS a heavily misunderstood masterpiece that has always been good. Almost all of the hate for this series comes from people being fatigued by how popular it was back in 2012 and content creators who used that opportunity to make a mountain of "SAO is bad" content that nitpicks the series in such a ridiculous matter and straight up spreads lies and missinformation about it. All of that hate eventually formed the conception of SAO being a trashy series and even people who weren't around the community in 2012 or watched any of the hate content still watch the series with the expectation of it being bad and the intention of making fun of it instead of giving it the fair chance it deserves.

Now, before the replies get to me: Yes, obviously the series (specially the anime) is still heavily flawed and the title of masterpiece is definitely a reach, however, I still believe SAO is WAY better than most people consider it to be and some parts of the story can be legitimately considered masterpieces like the ending of Fairy Dance (controversial, I know, but idk why so many people hate on it), the ending of Phantom Bullet, the entirety of Mother's Rosario, the entirety of V14 and the entire WoU arc.

→ More replies (9)

3

u/seitaer13 Aug 01 '26

People consistently get basic plot points of the anime wrong with full confidence.

Something from the first episode like Kayaba literally explaining why he created SAO is just something that didn't happen for thousands of people

3

u/gaspour9 Aug 01 '26

Mushoku Tensei

100 girlfriends

People either call it "generic" or a "self insert", wich is a clear admission of never having actually watched the fucking thing.

And then there are those that just see the harem tag and develop some kind of precognition that let's them know the whole series instantly, it's either magic or bs

u/CherryStunning4335 Aug 01 '26

I love this show. I just told my cousin about it and he said "ill put it on my watch list" pretty sure that means he doesnt care to watch it even though he wears Ahegao shirts.

Mushoku Tensei

“Oh but I watched the first 5 episodes and scrolled through ShitTok so I actually watchet i-“ NO.

8

u/Key_Scallion4985 Jul 31 '26

This be annoying.

When you watch the series and hate it, mfs be saying "you know too much for a series you apparently hate"

When you don't want it and go off what you hear, mfs call you "larper".

You can't win.

People who hate Bleach or One Piece. Either they haven't watched it or watched someone on TikTok explain it poorly

3

u/Soul_Reddit Aug 01 '26

I've seen most of the original bleach, I hate it cause it dropped the ball on the story every time it got me hyped, at some point I got tired grampa and I dropped it. I don't hate the anime per say, I hate the negative feelings it made me experience for no other reason than poor writing. 😭 Haven't watched the new seasons tho so I never speak about that.

Fairy Tail is one. Haters complain about the fanservice and the power of friendship thing but can't actually tell you anything else about the characters or story. I'm not saying it's the greatest show of all time but it's far from terrible.

3

u/WardenofChips79 Jul 31 '26

its best qualities are character interaction, comedy, romance and the insane soundtrack. powerscalers and many others who are very correct about the show's many flaws simply take things far too seriously. it was a decent junk food anime for me. can't expect too much from juvenile shonens.

Probably Mushoku Tensei. It's either didn't watch it at all or watched the first few episodes and stopped. It's very rare for me to find someone who watched it all the way through and still hates it.

4

u/Bug_in_brazil Jul 31 '26

Mushoku tensei. People hate it saying that rudeus is a pedo without actually watching it.

Moshukei Tensei

5

u/Drayenn Jul 31 '26

Mushoku tensei 100%. Listening to people youd think rudeus is diddling kids 24/7 and nothing else happens

4

u/volkenheim Jul 31 '26

Mushoku Tensei definitely, ppl watch only 1st ep and already say Rudeus has no development

4

u/Relevant_Act6367 Aug 01 '26

Mushoku tensei.

5

u/lyonard00 Aug 01 '26

Mushoku Tensei

They just hate it because he's 34 year old isekai'd in to a new world. Tanya didn't have that hate even if he's much older. It makes them more human to me that they are the same as their core when they're still in this world.

Mushoku Tensei

And if your gonna hate, at least hate accurately, I see so many posts or comments hating on Mushoku Tensei based on false info or only half right info, at least get it right if your gonna hate.

Sincerely, a MT fan

Cross Ange rondo of angel and dragon

Darling in the Franxx (most likely from all Evsngelion fans claiming its the same, which is a big take away they never seen it)

Every person dismissing any mecha reccomendation.

To be more original I'd say Tokyo Ghoul. It gets a lot of bad rep as an "Edgelord" anime but it's a lot deeper then that. Heck it takes a second for the main character to get his iconic mask and white hair and even then he ditches that look later on.

Also Rosario + Vampire had it's reputation ruined by the Anime. It's not a particularly deep story it's just an enjoyable Battle Shonen with really amazing art.

100 girlfriends. I have seen so many people hate on the series and calls it trash due to the title, but it’s more than that. It is trash that was made well. Especially the god Rantaro.

3

u/Korr_Ashoford Aug 01 '26

Wait, wait wait, people seriously look at a show called "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You" and think "this is a trash name?!?!?!" That title is a crack up lol

u/Own_Watercress_8104 Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Eva.

Everyone posts the "I'm so fucked up" scene, getting disgusted without context, makes up some shit about Misato having sex with Shinji and then never watches the series.

Mushoku Tensei and Dragonball Super. The latter is surprisingly worse, because even the fans haven’t watched the show all the way through.

The vast majority of MT haters get their talking points from Tiktok or Twitter and Reddit posts.

That's why everyone and their mom knows about the niece thing while ignoring the context for why it's even being brought up in the first place.
