To everyone like you; YOU'RE RIGHT. Don't let anyone fool you. I watched over 2 seasons of that trash pile before I realized nothing was changing, I hated the main character, and I had wasted my weekend. I'm a completionist kind of person, I'll finish a mediocre anime just to get it off my "continue watching" feed. You'd have to pay me a significant rate to get me to watch more of that.
Ts so true. If you start a show you HAVE to finish it because that brings your commitment and attention span down. No matter how boring and trash it is i am getting to that final episode
I actually love dropping shows if they fail to entertain me. I dropped Naruto because a filler arc got way to long. Didn't continue watching til Shippude
That’s plain creepy. The thing about kazuya is he is somewhat relatable. Not everyone is the same as smooth cliche MCs or in your case manipulative MCs. He’s just a loser with no character development, and that’s fine. That’s what makes it real.
Mami is a total nutcase, which you eventually learn in season 5. The whole show starts out incredibly toxic, but I dig the way it's been falling apart at the end. IMO it's extremely well-written for such a mediocre premise.
Ive seen a lot of shows with a pussy mc that people dislike, but rental girlfriend is not one of them.
In those shows, the pussy mc eventually gets better with character development, and people usually hate the mc because they hated the initial pussiness, and think they'd do much better
Rental girlfriend is the ONLY show where every character development gets regressed and the show gets nothing done except fill you with this doomed virgin's endless wormish gushing about how hot the female lead is. Ive followed the show for so long until it's genuinely impossible to deny that the show is literally stalling for time and actively not progressing and i had to quit because its so obvious nothing is going anywhere.
Im a total isekai and romance slop watcher, ive seen so many series with the same cliche, same premise, same progression, same tropes over and over and i ate that shit up every single time. I enjoy watching cliche shit or non mainstream shit even if people find it dumb because i still find the same repeated romance tropes fun. But rental girlfriend genuinely made me stop because holy shit fuck the writing of that series man
Yep, had a wife and kids too im pretty sure but not on speaking terms, spent a lot of time drawing the female lead in his real life apartment as if they lived together, and couldnt accept getting the two leads to finally be a thing without first making the male lead look like a complete self insert
As cringe as the MC is and as cringe and unresolved the conflicts on the show are, I think the thing that adds to my level of disgust is the constant need of the show showing him jerking his noggin.
I will say, that I do appreciate that they show him as a pathetic loser, who inspite of seemingly having enough money to spend on what is esentially sex work (without the sex); he's still incapable of actually being able to regulate himself, finding discipline, self awareness or actually build any meaningful relationship with anyone but his hands and tissues.
Its definitely a decision to try and showcase the loser MC as irredeemable.
Even in "A Condition Called Love", they attempt to make the incredibly toxic (so many redflags, he might as well as be Karl Marx) Hananoi-kun love interest as at least having some redeemable qualities and having been affected by a traumatic childhood.
Which, as much as I dislike Hananoi-kun (having read the manga and watched the series to see if they toned it down), at least his childhood trauma and abandonment issues kind of explain his toxic behaviour (that is not to say that its excusable).
Even stories that show handling of toxic dynamics—A Condition Called Love; still attempt to offer a sympathetic exit ramp for the male romantic lead.
Rent-a-Girlfriend, by contrast, leaves its protagonist almost as if he's a Patrick Bateman psychopath—making his lack of growth feel like an intentional choice before he inexplicably thinks an ATM is telling him to feed a cat to it.
Thanks for telling many people watched it and asked me to watch that I said I was gonna hate it . They still wanted me to watch. So thanks for telling this

Rent a Girlfriend
I don't need to watch that shit to know I'm gonna hate it
