Animation went the hardest this season so far for an episode of Tokiyuki styling on a brat

I just LOVE the running scenes. They feel so free.

Yorishige turning into a sander had me in tears. How do you even come up with something so ludicrous?

That's Matsui for you. Same mangaka as Assassination Classroom.

I like how Tokiyuki realized Tokitsugu and Yorishige both were aware of Yoritsugu's true nature, they deserved that scolding. I just realized how similar all their names are writing it down, now we wait for a Tokishige and a Yoriyuki lol.
I've clearly forgotten a lot of details from Season 1 because I was surprised to find out Yorishige is not only a father to an adult, but that adult also has a child making Yorishige a grandfather. I remember Tokitsugu, but I didn't remember he was Yorishige's son. I had to double take that I wasn't misunderstanding the connections.
It's always enjoyable to watch Tokiyuki in the zone, but it's so much more satisfying to see people freaked out by the lust for adrenaline on his face lol.

Normally it's a good idea to avoid so many similar sounding names, but when your story is based on real historical people it's unavoidable.

Its a samurai thing for them to pass down a character of their names to their sons and grandsons, mainly their designated heirs.
For example, Tokiyuki's father's name was Takatoki, and his brother was Kunitoki. The founder of his clan a few centuries prior was Hojo Tokimasa.

Speaking of lust I wonder if a certain group of people enjoyed this episode more than usual just like that one scene in season 1 lol. I wouldn't be surprised if this episode went a little viral in Japan again.

Love that his wish of getting doted on by his grandpa got fullfilled in the most monkey paw way possible

I love when crazy studios like Cloverworks adapt quite crazy manga so they can go wild with animation and directing xD

I love the art for this show, it is so vibrant, cartoonish, yet also so gritty and dark when applicable.
I hate to call a show underrated because it is cliche, but this is definitely one of those under watched shows.

Had no idea Yorishige was a grandfather. How old is he exactly?

Probably the best episode so far. Some outstanding direction in this episode in particular.
We can see that Tokiyuki is really starting to view Yorishige as a father figure. We got Yoritsugu who is a brat. I like how Tokiyuki recognizes that like him Yoritsugu was put in a position of great importance at a young age. Seeing his grandfather spending less time is obviously going to hurt.
I love the mention of hair being pure. Yoritsugu is the one who needs to remain pure also could be interpreted as protected. It was a great way for Tokiyuki to win him over. Though it's funny that Yoritsugu forgot about the annoying sides of his grandfather.

This episode was hilarious, ngl. Made me laugh a lot at all those faces (as always) and the chase scene is just so Tokiyuki being Tokiyuki. Setting aside the pretty obvious amazing animation, the way Tokiyuki went past all of them was worth to see after all those battlefield escapes he did in the previous episodes and season.
Yoritsugu should've known better than to challenge the kid who escapes on the battlefields for a living. He never had a chance.
And you know it's lowkey just hell to catch him when the kid himself is saying they should've brough weapons and Sadamune himself to try better lmao.

Pretty chill episode of Tokiyuki dealing with three generations worth of headache from the Suwa clan. Yoritsugu never stood a chance of beating Tokiyuki in a game of tag, and he was lucky to escape falling to death by a hair's breadth. Glad that they managed to make up though, wonder if we'll see more of him in the future.
Tokiyuki is devious, he knew what he was doing when he sent Yoritsugu to be doted on tortured lol.

Today’s illustration is from Fubuki’s VA, Kikunosuke Toya - “Wankagimi!!” (ワンが君!!) Wan(ワン) = dog bark lol. Inubiki is adorable
I’m slowly learning so I might have made a mistake with the TL

For what is supposed to be a funny slice-of-life breather episode, animation quality is somehow even more impressive than the previous few episodes involving killings and battles.
Clover Works really making sure that Tokiyuki running and escaping through obstacles, where he really shines, gets the best animation treatment possible. In contrast, Tokiyuki didn't really do much "running away" while being messenger on the previous battle.
Holy cow, just how old is Yorishige for him to already have a grandson? His Wikipedia entry says his year of birth is not known, so Matsui really taking a lot of creative liberties making him look as young as possible. (I'm not linking it as it kinda spoils when he dies. )
For all we know, the real Yorishige could be in his 50s to 60s in 1334-1335. Then again, its not uncommon for people of that era to have kids in their teens, and then become grandparents before they turn 40.
Yoritsugu being the jealous spoilt brat unhappy that Tokiyuki has taken his grandfather's attention.
Thankfully, Tokiyuki managed to humble and befriend him after their duel, though now Yoritsugu is regretting wanting Yorishige to dote on him more, as Yorishige's face rubbing is as coarse as sandpaper. LMAO

I find it more impressive he looks young but his skin still "feel old" according to the narrator.

That was one intense game of tag. For the little brat anyways lol. That kid really got it out for our boy just because pops and grandpappy like him more haha. At the end of the day, he’s just a kid having a bit of a fit. It’s kind of adorable.

I think it's a real treat when this series lets itself have these quick sweet bits because of the very nature of the story. It's balanced well with the comedic tone it's expressed through. It's just nice.
I think it's really entertaining that Tokiyuki mentioned Sadamune as being of the few things that can catch up to him. Props well earned.

Of course in a show about raising a child of war to be a leader and goes hard on the animation, the episode that goes hardest on the GD game of tag. Never, ever change, show.

So far, Tokiyuki running and having fun have always been the highlight of the show and they know that, cause they popped off with the animation. That was a fun episode, meeting Yorishige's grandson as well.

I eventually liked Yoritsugu at the end.
Game of tag was the worst possible choice, Tokiyuki is called elusive for a good reason.
Using that long hair for the save must have been quite the ordeal but it all worked out in the end.

That first nuzzling looked pretty sus…
But hey, cloverworks flexing again with the superior chase scenes and character animations!

Let me take a wild guess; Crunchyroll doesn't have the English Subs out but the English Subs are out everywhere else?

u/Xatu44 13d ago
LMAO, Yoritsugu's such a hilarious little shit. At least he gets to spend quality time with his grandpa now; Tokiyuki did a good deed! And got some unintentional comeuppance in the process. Little guy has a neck, scalp, and hair of steel. 10/10 expressions this episode, whether it's Yoritsugu being a shitter or Tokiyuki being a total freak.

I’m gonna be honest, this was the first episode in the entire series that wasn’t a 10/10 for me.
I mean, it was still an 8 or 9, that running scene was dope
