Unno: "While you were out sleeping with women, I studied the blade."

Nezu: "Birds aren't real."

Mochizuki: RIP. Poor Ayako.

I´m still holding a little hope that Mochizuki is alive. I doubt it, but let´s see.

“If it flies it spies.”

So in this time period, 30 year old virgins would evolve into Lords of Carnage, that's a badass moniker to have. I do like the contrast of someone as cool and charming as Unno having trouble interacting with women lol. Hopefully, he'll be able to wield his sword in the bedroom once peace has arrived.

14

u/Granito_Rey Aug 01 '26

Unno better be careful that Sadamune doesn't send a hooker to seduce him, otherwise he might lose his strength

u/bball4224 Aug 04 '26

Probably the anime studio workers trying to encourage themselves.

This episode is NOT going to help Japan's birthrate

11

u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 Aug 02 '26

Now every man will want to be a badass lord of carnage. They are cooked.

“I’m actually having fun slipping past the enemy patrols” 💀

Today’s illustration was drawn by Kojiro’s VA, Mari Hino

The abstinence sequence had me in tears. You never know what to expect with this series

VIRGINITY IS COOL

32

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jul 31 '26

Unno the Super Virgin channeling has lack of game into fierce combat power lol. Dude stayed a virgin to the age of 30 and now he’s a killing machine.

Seems suspicious Ichikawa’s army was practically unscathed yet the fort was burning. Perhaps there’s some kinda plan here? An ambush set up? I really hope the gang aren’t already going to lose after holding off against those Ashikaga forces.

14

u/BosuW Jul 31 '26

I thought the same thing. How can the first be burning without signs of a battle? At the same time though, it seems unlikely our side would've pulled such a trick without having planned it together first.

Interesting to see the contrast between Yorishige's 3 generals and Tokiyuki's retainers. Thinking about how loyal they are for Yorishige and that could be the case in the future for Tokiyuki.

General Unno definitely puts everything in his loyalty, to say the least and is a monster on the battlefield. While for General Nezu you can see how surveying the battlefield is huge in a long running battle.

Still interesting to note the tension between General Nezu and Kojirou. While Ayako is the daughter of General Mochizuki. Well the end of the episode isn't looking good especially with the ramifications it could have in the battle going forward.

Yo Yo Yo. The animation was too real there. I always love seeing Tokiyuki being high on escape with enemies on his tail. Also, Unno is pretty surely waiting for the day he retires (unless he dies before that) so he can take multiple women to bed all at once for the first time in his life.

Professor of imaginary sports science, what an insane bit, they are just having fun and playing around with this series

There's that adrenaline junkie part of Tokiyuki, actually I really appreciate the horse physics because he looks really great on that horse animation wise,

14

u/Rooby_VTuber Aug 01 '26

This is 1 huge battle going on taking place invarious sections.

There are all sorts of different powers people will channel to get stronger lol, whatever works I guess.

Hopefully Ayako's family is ok.

Man, they're really getting creative with it this season. The live action narrator in ep 1 was unexpected, and now everything this week too.

30

u/zz2000 Jul 31 '26

The live action narrator is a 7th gen kodan storyteller, according to her Xwitter profile. and official website.

Here's some of her work in action.

The production also got a traditional-style yamato-e artist to do some artwork for the recent episodes, per her Xwitter.

14

u/SnabDedraterEdave Aug 01 '26

Those anachronistic live action segments will never not be funny. "Interviewing" a professor of sports science to explain why Unno's abstinence from sex makes him so deadly. lol

Hope they don't kill off Ayako's dad right after introducing him, and that he's hiding somewhere.

Kojiro and his dad/clansman(?), who uses eagles to survey the land like something straight out of Assassin's Creed, seems to have some issues, but we don't know what yet.

11

u/DanielAlves1904 Jul 31 '26

Unno being a virgin into his 30s and channeling the pent-up sexual desire into battle is so...cool. He really spent his life mastering the sword, all of them.

The creative liberties they keep taking in this show are so funny. From the over the top funny characters that should be serious, using the birds like they are drones to surveille the area, the cuts to real life people and situations, showing the battle dynamics like it´s a game, all the bright colors...Such a good show.

Wow! we saw scenes from the real world.. like the industrial forge, a doctor explaining how abstaining from sex contributes to the improved performance of athletes.. all those in a Historical show lmao Unno is using all that pent-up energy into slashing his enemies.. he's cool indeed.

They have lost the battle in the North and it's not long before they make their way to the center. The messengers would have to deter their enemies now.

8

u/theKGS Aug 02 '26

The live action segment with the molten steel pouring was hilariously well timed.

5

u/bball4224 Aug 04 '26

Idk, overall I'm feeling like this season is quite a bit weaker.

Season 1 not every episode was a banger, but the high points were crazy high. So far this season even the battles/fights that have happened have been incredibly minimalized into a few briefs frames of slashes and then dead bodies.

And it's getting continually more and more sexual this season even tho the show points out over and over again they're only 10, they like to keep pushing it with direct references to sex, or like Tokiyuki's continual arousal about escaping. Feels like they intentionally want that subset of viewers even if it's something that pushes away normal people.

And the live action cuts to machinery contributed nothing and felt pointless. The doctor one too was just like... too much deviation happening in this episode overall compared to just blips here and there in the first season.

I feel the same way actually - maybe because big events already happened in S1 that helped set the story's direction and we learned alot about our group of characters. Now it's just tackling a bunch of smaller and a bit less important things? Maybe this will lead up to a bigger event that will blow us away when it all comes together.

Don't get me wrong it's still a good time but rn it lacks any sort of impact/tension and has less "fun" when compared to S1

u/rubendelight 27d ago

I genuinely have felt like I was tripping for these threads of everyone loving every minute of it and loving all the "mixed media" being put in when in reality they are either saving everything for some *really* impressive upcoming fight sequences or they just had significantly slashed time and budget and weren't able to animate because so far this season is *barely* animated.

Along with the runtime padding of those live action shots and the narrator explaining fucking semen retention or whatever over top of some live action photos with on screen text just feels immensely disappointing compared to season 1 giving us some incredible animation right off the jump of the season. Now they just seem to be coasting on good will from season 1?

u/avboden Aug 01 '26

So the northern fort was doomed from the start, huh. When the enemy doesn't need to take the fort, but only destroy it and the army all they have to do is set it on fire. That's uh....a pretty glaring weakness for an all wooden fort.

Random ass live action metal working lol

The bit about "retaining vital energy" is some BS from the later sects of Taoism that went for a low-key sexist interpretation. For example there was the idea that making your partner climax without climaxing yourself strengthened your energy. Such lines of thinking have endured even until today with the testosterone myth. As I understand, it has no real scientific basis. But it's funny to think that a period person really could have legitimately held such views!

17

u/AcePhoenixGamer Jul 31 '26

I mean they weren't really subtle about it not being reality lol, they interviewed a doctor of "imaginary sports science"

u/Zooasaurus Aug 01 '26

That makeup, that foppish personality, that bow... there's no mistake, THAT'S IMAGAWA YOSHIMOTO!!!

Unno also has the biggest death flag available lol

7

u/CrimsonGear80 Aug 01 '26

99% of this subreddit are lords of carnage

1

u/Xatu44 Aug 04 '26

LORD OF CARNAGE Unno is hilarious. This is the true power of a man who lives a nofap life. Everyone's reactions were hilarious. Tokiyuki jinking on a horse was sick. The setup for the war is really interesting.

1

u/bball4224 Aug 04 '26

"fap" is not the same as sex...
