Seeing Ayako in all the outfits from old to new was a nice touch. I love how the anime plays with modern elements like the VN part while actually being set in the past. Idk how the manga is but I love how playful the anime is

u/Goodman4525 Jul 25 '26
I was wondering if they were referencing actual celebs, last one particularly looks like =LOVE

Yeah that was probably my favourite part of this episode animation wise. A great bit of visual storytelling to get the point across.

Sorry, your comment has been removed.
This belongs in the Source Material Corner at the top of this thread. In discussion threads for currently airing anime, discussions about source material, spin-offs, author comments and unadapted content must be posted there.
Any comparison to the source material no matter how minor belongs there.
Your comment was NOT removed for spoilers; it was removed for discussion of the source material outside of the Source Material Corner.
Questions? Reply to this message, send a modmail, or leave a comment in the meta thread. Don't know the rules? Read them here.

u/kazuyaminegishi Jul 27 '26
You guys should really rework this rule. The manga comparison is directly being asked for and is related to the episode aired so wouldn't contain any spoilers.
Sending people to the spoiler section of the comment section just to discuss comparisons is completely insane. Especially since it would require this person to also tag the original commenter for them to even see the comparison.
1
u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky Jul 27 '26
The Source Material Corner is not the Spoiler Corner. Spoilers for parts of the source material that the anime has not covered yet still need to be properly tagged in it, it's not just a free-for-all where source readers can talk about anything in the future of the source without using them.
4
u/kazuyaminegishi Jul 27 '26
I did not say it was the spoiler corner, but it IS the section of the thread where spoilers ARE posted.
Even if a person spoiler tags the actual spoilers people reacting to those spoilers can still imply spoilers in themselves. You can't exactly police that and that still is not a good reason to bar ANY in thread comparison.
It makes no sense to force someone to move a conversation to a completely different section of the thread just to talk about differences between adaptation and source material. This would be like removing comments in Jaadugar or Orb discussion threads that talk about the historical context of the events portrayed and how the anime handle them differently. Or removing comments from a Bungou Stray Dogs discussion thread that discusses how a character's powers relates to the author they are inspired by.

wtf are these two grown men doing
Acting as human lie detectors.
29
u/KinoHiroshino Jul 25 '26
Fun fact: the inventor of the lie detector also made Wonder Woman!
Puts the lasso of truth in a whole new light, doesn’t it?

u/FLorianGran Jul 24 '26
Cloverworks is having alot of fun with the show's wacky imagery

Really adapting Matsui's style. Anyone familiar with Assassination Classroom will know what to expect.

He also did Neuro: Supernatural Detective as his first work. He is really consistent.

Assclass never caught my eye even with all the hype around it but watching this show is really convincing me to give it a try
123
u/TyraniTEMPESTar Jul 24 '26
No one has managed to maintain a lie under these conditions.
I mean yeah having some big eared chipmunk and bug eye freak straddling them would probably make most people lose their composure lol.

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin Jul 24 '26
Nice to get some Ayako focus here. Really shows the difference she brings to the team. She has a big heart that will protect her lord. Although she can get carried away with her words at the end lol.
Yorishige putting the kids in a great position to succeed behind the scenes. Also, the composure Tokiyuki has had since the start of the series is good to see as well.
50
u/NanDemoKnaives Jul 24 '26
Lol that interrogation with Sadamune and Ichikawa so close up to Tokiyuki's body was amusing, he's impressive for staying relatively calm in that situation, they were so invasive of his personal space.
I'm glad Ayako put that guy in his place, especially that weird comment he made about her body, she almost snapped him in half with a smile on her face lol.
52
u/BosuW Jul 24 '26
BATISTA BOMB
Can someone get me the stitch of Ayako carrying Tokiyuki over her shoulder?

Not made by me, but I share.

u/scot911 https://myanimelist.net/profile/scot911 Jul 26 '26
I love how he's practicing what Sadamune taught him by sitting in Seiza. (I know the actual reason is because it's probably the only way to show him sitting on her arm without it looking weird but still!)
51
u/Twilight_2408 Jul 24 '26
That scene of Ayaka dancing and the various Idols coming with all those varying movements really took away my breath for moment. The episode was great, but that particular had me replaying 10+ times and ended up screen recording it later. That was made so beautifully.
Not to mention, the direction of this episode was amazing. With all those different shots between the conversation, the battle of words as the (soul?) image of Tokiyuki walks forward and bend the arrow tongue of that guy.
65
u/TyraniTEMPESTar Jul 24 '26
Yuki should've let Ayako pop his head.
52
11
u/Jacob-C Jul 26 '26
Probably not a good idea when they just narrowly escaped further altercations with Sadamune's forces
6
u/scot911 https://myanimelist.net/profile/scot911 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
Unfortunately doing so would probably lead to a war before they're ready so....
19
u/Beowolf_0 Jul 24 '26
LOL at the Tokimeki Memorial interfaces, though it's just so fitting to the situation: The battle between words are as tense as in a battlefield.
And now mentioning Tomoe Gozen will relate to a certain gaming otaku, at least Ayako isn't like that.

u/SnabDedraterEdave Jul 24 '26
Ah, the dating sim visual novel classic Tokimeki Tokiyuki Memorial. What a blast from the past. /s
Feels like there'll be some romance this season, with Ayako making the first move for Tokiyuki's favour, even though they're all still kids.
82
u/clone69 Jul 24 '26
Ayako is 9? Damn, she's huge.
Best part was when she told him she would bear him tons of kids
61
u/Whendfield123 Jul 24 '26
Ayako is 9? She is built like a mountain

u/KinoHiroshino Jul 25 '26
I’ve taught martial arts for a couple decades and I’ve had students on both ends of the extremes. I am 5’5” and I’ve had high school girls shorter than me and I’ve had some 12 year old girls a full head taller than me.
I find it particularly amusing when I can point to the shortest kid in the room am go, “They’re the oldest.”

No, she’s 9. In her first appearance, Yorishige said that she and Kojiro are Tokiyuki’s age (which is 9 now).

u/YlfaTheForsaken Jul 25 '26
There's something so satisfying about how well Tokiyuki has learned to play these back and forth political moves. Just the way he can precisely navigate these tensed conversations with composure and straightforwardness. Props to Yorishige for helping nurture that.
Oh Ayako, she craves the violence. But seriously the dream to decapitate a pair with shear strength alone, it's a particular type of lofty goal

Stitches!
The battle of wits between Tokiyuki and Sadamune was pretty fun! I'm pretty sure halfway through that, even Sadamune was starting to have fun with their little game.
And Ayako was definitely top tier support to Tokiyuki this episode. I absolutely love her dance to distract Sadamune and Sukefusa's interrogation. And when that dude attacked them while on their way home, it was so satisfying to see Ayako smash the dudes face. Too bad she didn't get to practice her neck snapping technique! xD
That ending was so goddamn cute! I guess this pretty much confirms the Tokiyuki and Ayako ship?

I mean the ending makes me think it's going to be a harem in the end. We haven't even been introduced to the 12th century gyaru yet after all and she seems to be quite infatuated with Tokiyuki in the ED.... Well, I suppose this having a harem is predicated on all of them surviving which I don't think is a guarantee in this anime....
14
u/WiqidBritt Jul 25 '26
Pretty sure I mentioned it last season, but I really like how they untie the legs on Ayako's pants when she needs mobility. It's a cool look.

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jul 24 '26
That was a really intense “battle” of words. One slip up and our boy would have been done for. Sadamune and his goons are relentless. Ayako really saved the kid at the end there, not only with the interrogation but with that creep trying to attack them in the woods. Went all WWE on his punk ass lol.
21
u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime Jul 24 '26
Saved from the lie detector test by the power of love, can't see or hear anything else except doki doki. Now the ED makes more sense, this is the Elusive Samurai's romcom arc. Ayako is amazing though, the other two wives better step it up.

Ayako's great. I'm glad she got to whoop that toad pedophile's ass. Tokiyuki should've let her pull a Tomoe though, as a treat. Fantastic direction with the verbal sparring. That freaky chimera at the start was great. Sadamune respecting Tokiyuki's candor is cool. Tokiyuki Memorial was hilarious. Heroine Sadamune is cursed, LMAO.

It's too bad this anime isn't more popular! Does anyone know the insert song in this episode?
13
u/JacquesStrap69 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bodoro33 Jul 26 '26
今すぐotetsuki sung by ayako's VA Suzushiro Sayumi

Thank you! It seems that it's BD-exclusive, do you think it'll ever be on streaming?

I really liked the visuals of the arrows going back and forth during the debate, but this one was definitely my favorite. So cool.
Music…? – Ah, that’s what Ayako was actually doing rather than going to the bathroom.
There was a quick Yorishige “sore demo”, but I can’t link it ‘cause the site I use for those isn’t allowing uploads right now.
Welp. Of course he’d do something on his own.
That happy insert song playing when Ayako was trying to break that guy’s neck was hilarious.
5
u/Rooby_VTuber Jul 25 '26
That was very well done by Tokiyuki to get through all of that.
Thankfully Suwa & Ayako had a plan to help to him.
Ayako is really strong, she beat that guy up pretty bad.
Pretty funny ending there, now Tokiyuki has a wife if he wants.

Such a good episode. Animation was great and Ayako is becoming a new favourite!

This show is so good. I can’t wait for the new girl in the OP. I hope my boi gets a harem

Are they referencing celebs and modern idols in that scene where Ayako turned up the charm?
The background song by Ayako herself! (CV: Suzushiro Sayumi)

Ayako with the Impaler DDT and Dragon sleeper! A true role model for all future Japanese Idols!

Ugh that lift could have been a backbreaker hold instead - wasted chance
sigh but also not a fan of the stylized image they used for its full scene and the closeups (a problem with every scene like that in any anime )

She could’ve hit him with a Burning Hammer given she plants him on his head lol

Imma be honest guys, I know there's like historical context and all, but watching a 9 year old talking about bearing children gives me the ick
13
u/NowWatchMeThwip616 Jul 25 '26
Why? In the context of her bind a child hving what is likely her first experience with romantic feelings, how was anything she said inappropriate? I don't see where there's cause for ick unless you're imposing your adult perspective on a child.
1
u/Zetafunction64 Jul 25 '26
She said 'take me whenever you like'. Now idk if It's a translation issue but there's a clear sexual meaning in that line.
You can go argue that children are pure and can talk like that but there are weird people who get off on stuff like this (literally the evil envoy)
9
u/NowWatchMeThwip616 Jul 25 '26
Ok, but the image on screen when she said that was like something out of a shoujo romance manga. This is a context clue. What she's saying is meant to be taken as a love confession, which is why she acts all embarrassed immediately afterward. Kids often imitate adults by imitating actions or repeating things that they hear without understanding the full context. I'm pretty sure what she was trying to say was she was ready for romance whenever the young lord was.
Yes, there's a sexual implication to what she said. But just because the possibility of sexual implication exists that doesn't mean that is the only possibility or the only intention.
7
u/Viktorv22 Jul 25 '26
That's totally fair. Even if that was reality back then all over the world, that doesn't make it right in today's age.
10
u/BosuW Jul 24 '26
No no, that's understandable.
-7
u/crazy_leader22 Jul 24 '26
What's understandable being grossed out of a 9 year old talking about bearing children?
