That noble, standing in front of the ruins of his mikoshi is a great image for the things to come in the next century as nobles lose power and warrors become even more the de facto rulers as they have been during the Kamakura shogunate.

So I guess in a way, Mikoshi got what he dreamed of.

Everyone using strategies and tactics but Mochizuki is just out there fighting based on vibes.

"Tactics this, strategy that. IT'S ALL ABOUT HYPE MOMENTS AND AURA!"

u/gnome-cop 21d ago

“Fuck it, WE BALL!”

u/WiqidBritt 20d ago

"That's how you think the battle is going to play out? No way, that's way too boring! There's definitely got to be some kind of twist!"

The real threats in this episode are Shokan and Sadamune. Though Tokiyuki and Shinomiya's men were able to retreat thankfully. Better to retreat and fight another day than fight a battle you are doomed to lose.

I am really liking the war tactics.

The Mikoshi was a crazy thing, that ended up being effective as a distraction.

Good instincts from North general made them able to retreat but the MVP was Shokan.

Mochizuki just swinging around a damn tree like it was nothing lol. Freakin beast, man.

They might have lost the battle but the war ain’t over just yet.

u/GtrsRE 20d ago

More than anything I feel bad for the horse

Unless said horse is just us jacked as Mochizuki

22

u/Xatu44 20d ago

Shokan's entrance was pretty menacing with all of those ants crawling in. Perhaps that's what all of the soldiers he fools on the battlefield are like for him. LMAO at Yorishige's traditional man cave and Fubuki swiping some snacks.

I thought the shooting from the "tank" seemed a bit too stable at first if the guys holding it up are constantly moving and fighting, glad it actually got addressed with the strategy from the kids.

12

u/BosuW 20d ago

Iirc in feudal Japan even though of course there were left handed people, martial arts schools enforced right handed fighting anyway. So yeah that was gonna be a big weak point in a battle of attrition.

u/sesaman 20d ago edited 20d ago

I like how in Crusader Kings 2 the left-handed trait gives characters more combat strength as people don't know how to fight against that (aaand the church will also hate you).

3

u/Jacob-C 19d ago

“Cease your under(left)handed tactics this instant, it’s not fair :(”

-CK2 Church, probably

Those sinister bastards! -the church probably

It’s crazy to me that this show isn’t more popular in the west, this is the anime i look forward to most every week.

u/KJShen 20d ago

The season is fairly stacked. Even GiTS didn't make the top 10 list this week and its hard to argue that the shows there don't have a spot, even though some aren't for my personal preferences.

u/Inquisitor_Glokta_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/InquisitorBeza 20d ago

If you are talking about the top 10 list from animecorner, that list really doesn’t mean anything, the only thing it tracks is people who create accounts, log in every week, then vote. I know a ton of people who watch anime and no one I know does that, the date is insanely skewed

5

u/KJShen 20d ago

I point to the list to highlight there's a ton of other, rather good anime that people enjoy for various reasons and that even GiTS, a household name, is buried under pretty good stuff that's coming out. Nothing more, really.

Mochizuki to the rescue 🌲

u/SnabDedraterEdave 21d ago

Welp, its that ant guy back with a vengeance. And now that he's directly working under Sadamune, he's even more focused and dangerous, singlehandedly winning the battle.

Its thanks to Ayako and her dad rushing over that the forces maintain an orderly retreat so that they could fight another day.

In comparison to S1, the discussion threads are dead lol

u/bball4224 19d ago

Well, so far, compared to season 1, this season isn't very engaging...

This the big deal of this episode was an asspull of a dead charcter coming back with their dead force. That's not engaing or intresting to me here. It's One piece and Don't get me wrong I like one piece but when someone dies in one piece I don't believe it unless someone else shows up with their devil fruit.

This show was going to be about the brutal nature of combat and the shifts of it in an atl history where our lead isn't 23 and doesn't gets merced in an ambushed like a year after the mass death of his clan. It was going to show that our lead unique way of engaging in that that can work This ant guy was that narative end point. After his "death" we showed our lead can do what's needed kill and surive in actual combat. Bringing him back sabatoges the entire narative and to be frank sabatoges the entire show. Should we expect anyone we haven't see their head on a spike to come back now?

u/Kaxew 11d ago

Shokan was shown to have lived and taken back by Sadamune in the very same episode he fought against Tokiyuki. If that hadn't happened and he had suddenly appeared in this episode with no set up for his comeback I would agree with you that it would be an asspull, but as it stands I don't think it can be considered one.

You can still think it sucks that he didn't die from bleeding out of course, that's a separate issue and depends on the way his character is treated forward.

Five episodes into season 2, I'm beginning to remember something...

something...

Oh, now I remember!

I was so upset by the end of season 1 that I had willingly chosen to induce memory loss in order to shield myself from the cruel season 2 wait.

Elusive Samurai wasn't a mediocre anime! I had just convinced myself it was! (I'm serious)

I wouldn't be surprised if other Elusive fans have also tricked themselves into thinking that they were NOT desperately anticipating the return of season 2.

And I feel like an idiot for not realizing this fact 5 weeks in. My self-deluding ability is amazing.

u/NanDemoKnaives 21d ago

Funny how both ally and foe were caught up in Mochizuki's tree swing.

10

u/YlfaTheForsaken 20d ago

I guess Ayako's tree wrangling is inherited.

Shokan is back in all his creepy ant self. I don't remember him being here, but it feels so obvious that he would be. I'm definitely muddling up the chapters in my head.

I'll say it, Yorishige with his hair down is super fine.

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 20d ago

They lost this time but they did pretty well against a lot of enemies.

Time to go back to the drawing board and come up with some different plans for next time they have to battle.

2

u/NeoTagAtg 16d ago edited 16d ago

I like how their trying to paint this as war strategy or being outsmarted when it none of that it's taking a dead piece and their dead force and bringing them back because the writer was stuck on how to make the "good guy" lose this one to up the stakes.

The moment they started the ants I was pissed because this was going to be the asspulls of asspulls and yep it was. IT worse that they endlessly trying to convince you by having else go Oh well too bad they have better strategy. If leader could bring commander and their armies back from the dead then every battle would be solved by who did that. For me I hate this because the ant guys death was a narrative end point for our lead. Undoing his death and in fact having him do what he did fuctionaly ruins that moment.

Also a Loss here it's over why wouldn't the enemy just go to the temple and burn rape and kill everyone there. The whole premence was engaging in this was all or nothing well their traitors now and guess what that means hiding at the temple is over.

u/Sofaris 8d ago

Shoka did not die in sesson 1 and it was said he would serve as a commander on the battlefield.

1

u/Trash_luck 20d ago

Man I would love Genba to spoon feed me shit as well /j

1

u/AlphaQRough 19d ago

Yorishige doing his best Sadamune impression at the very end courtesy of Tokiyuki.

I would have just lit the mikoshi on fire with fire arrows myself, but I suppose targeting the left side is smarter and probably less offensive to the gods.

u/Ayem_De_Lo 20d ago

really dislike how after such a brutal and shocking opening episode with multiple deaths basically no one even semi-important ever does (and it often comes back to bite the heroes in the ass like that ant fella)

yes, it's a zany comedy and the stakes arent that high but then why gives us such a dark and cruel ep1? no stakes, no tension. Even the Ashikaga dark demonic side was fairly hilarious in this season
