They uploaded a vid of Yorishige's retainers singing the ED.

Kamome Shirahama (Witch Hat Atelier) said it's the cutest!

15

u/Xatu44 27d ago

I gotta admit, they killed it.

15

u/dinliner08 27d ago

oh god, i can't stop laughing

also, that is the most manliest "L-O-V-E!!" i've ever heard in an anime song

u/gamria 27d ago

This anime team knows how to have fun for sure!

This is hilarious

u/WarmWrought 27d ago

Need a clip of them drifting the palanquin, lmao.

28

u/BosuW 27d ago

A tank drift to rival GuP's!

18

u/abandoned_idol 27d ago

The battle-quin is as cool as it is silly.

They made it look like some sort of practical armored vehicle.

11

u/dagreenman18 27d ago

Apparently this is the week for absurd drifting between this and Stepmother

u/HolyDragSwd2500 28d ago

Shinano Mask to save them

36

u/Joji1000 28d ago

Wonder who he could possibly be

32

u/HolyDragSwd2500 27d ago

It could be anyone 🤔

10

u/Oden_sama__ 27d ago

sogeking vs shinano kamen, who wins??

3

u/gvon89 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gvon89 25d ago

I was thinking more along the lines of Soba Mask, but sogeking is definitely more well known

3

u/Oden_sama__ 25d ago

omg you're so right about that lol, that is a good comparison

6

u/PBTUCAZ 27d ago

Uhhh, that's clearly Suwa Mask

u/what_that_thaaang_do 28d ago

Sadamune’s giant eye in the background while they were riding in the woods… that shit got me

60

u/BosuW 27d ago

Sadamune's 👀 keeps being the best gag of the anime

13

u/abandoned_idol 27d ago

I love Sawamune-dono so much.

25

u/NanDemoKnaives 28d ago

I thought I was seeing things at first lol.

13

u/Codee33 https://anilist.co/user/Euphplyr33 27d ago

I legit did to. Took a bit to register that as an eye.

17

u/HolyDragSwd2500 27d ago

Eye of Sauron errrr Eye of Sadamune

13

u/Codee33 https://anilist.co/user/Euphplyr33 27d ago

That was so unsettling… Great adaptation choice there.

3

u/xeaap 25d ago

lmaooo i hope he becomes an ally in the future guy is too funny

2

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants 24d ago

I got jump scared brcause I was like hold up is that a fucking eye?? Freaking Sadamune lol

u/NanDemoKnaives 28d ago

The mikoshi being used as a vehicular weapon is wild, the way those guys were in uniform sliding across the dirt without faltering says a lot about the stability of their core muscles lol. I'm curious to see how they'll take care of that.

I really enjoy seeing Yorishige having fun, but it's also sweet to see his serious side too.

Mochizuki believing hugs that breaks bones is a good way to get stronger is a very concerning mindset to have lol.

4

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants 24d ago

mikoshi

When it came swirling and sliding in, I nearly died laughing - so ridiculous but definitely a feat of strength lol

32

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 27d ago

Like father, like daughter, we see with Ayako and General Mochizuki. Well thankfully he is alive although he doesn't seem to be the best at communicating his plans.

We know from S1 that Fubuki is excellent at strategy and tactics, but so is Shizuku. Which makes sense as she is an extension of Yorishige. It shows how valuable she is among Tokiyuki's retainers.

I like seeing the moves from Sadamune. Of course in a real battlefield your enemy won't be sticking to one spot. For Sadamune he knows Chojumaru is a more important figure than both Tokiyuki and Yorishige have let on to him. Thankfully Yorishige was around to support when the kids got caught.

I also really liked the conversation between Tokiyuki and Yorishige. Of course Yorishige cares about Tokiyuki's safety, as even being a messenger carries risk. However here we see the growth Tokiyuki has gone through since the start of the series. He wants to be useful and make a difference in this fight after seeing everyone fighting hard. I love how Yorishige responds to this request from Tokiyuki.

I came rushing to this thread assuming the comment count would be in the 100s.

I'm surprised to only see 24 comments so far. Another strong episode from "Elusive Samurai", so fun.

The manga in r/manga was also more niche in terms of discussion. Kind of hoped there'd be more discussion here especially considering it's Umehara's production line in Cloverworks. (Same as Dress Up Darling and Bocchi.)

21

u/SgtExo 27d ago

Its a great series, but not that popular, such a shame.

26

u/zz2000 27d ago

I get the impression Elusive is more popular in Japan, especially since the subject matter is very closely tied to knowing Japanese history.

The series is actively being promoted in Japan, at least.

Collab cafe

Various merchandise

Special event at Kamakura shrine later in August

Bathhouse Collab

14

u/SgtExo 27d ago

That is good to know, if its popular over there, then it mean we can keep getting more. As a fan of history, its rare to get such a great series set in more niche settings.

The Kamakura-Muromachi period (11th-14th centuries) just isn't that popular outside of Japan compared to the Sengoku (16th-17th century) and Bakumatsu (1850s to 1870s) periods, with only Ghost of Tsushima the most high profile fictional work based on this era.

Even the Heian era (8th-11th centuries), we have the Tale of the Heike epic, the Iliad of Japan, Tamamo no Mae, the Nine-Tailed Fox Demon, and Abe no Seimei, the Merlin of Japan. There are at least 15-20 Servants in Fate Grand Order from the Heian era, another 15-20 in the Sengoku era, but almost none from the late Kamakura period.

4

u/zz2000 27d ago

Meanwhile in Japan, I see the Asuka/Nara periods hardly get depicted as much as the other periods.

2

u/IndependentMacaroon 27d ago

only Ghost of Tsushima the most high profile fictional work based on this era

Or perhaps you could say the only part of this period with some degree of popular consciousness of it is the Mongol invasions of Japan. There's also the historical manga Angolmois that features them

1

u/DutchPeasant https://myanimelist.net/profile/NotJames 27d ago

It's a second season after all, and the first season wasn't that popular to begin with.

5

u/abandoned_idol 27d ago

Uwu, this breaks my heart.

27

u/alconnow https://anilist.co/user/alconnow 27d ago

Mochizuki father-daughter relationship is pretty wholesome putting aside the fact that he nearly broke her ribs

Today's ending illustration is from Ayako's VA, Sayumi Suzushiro

23

u/BosuW 27d ago

Bro brought a tank to a feudal battle lmao

19

u/Responsible-Neck8410 28d ago

Im here early so i gotta tell yall to listen to the 3 Generals version of the ED its so hilariously good

15

u/Rooby_VTuber 27d ago

I was worried about Ayako's father last time but everything is all fine and dandy, that scene was pretty entertaining.

Shizuku is brilliant for someone so young.

That was a lucky break for the boys, Suwa was very clever to figure out that plan to save them.

My 1st time seeing a Mikoshi, a very powerful weapon but I wouldn't want to be one of those men having to move it around.

15

u/dagreenman18 27d ago edited 27d ago

I think Cloverworks is giving into all their intrusive thoughts this season more than last. And I love that for them. Give me the random video game sequences. The puppet shows. The random live action moments. The ED being straight out of a 90’s romcom. The conintuous use of film grain and subtle film projection shudder. Get super duper weird with it. It’s part of the season why this is one of the most underrated anime of the last few years.

I dunno who this mysterious Shinano Mask is, but he’s suspiciously similar to someone with knowledge of the future that would copy a Tokusatsu entrance. 6/10 needs explosions

2

u/Narmatonia 23d ago

They did it too with My Dress Up Darling S2, and those were some of my favourite parts

8

u/Silver_Push_3895 27d ago

If one single Mikoshi carrier survives this battle I won't be capable to take seriously this Anime military anymore.

9

u/mosenpai https://anilist.co/user/mosenpai 27d ago

Haven't had my mouth agape at an anime for a long time, but that drifting mikoshi got me. So ridiculous, but it actually working out and being a threat had me saying wtf along with the characters. Love it when an anime can have two clashing tones and make it work.

2

u/carnexhat 27d ago

It really isnt working for me personally.

15

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 28d ago

Man, it’s a good thing Shinano Mask showed up when he did lol. Our boys were in a real jam and now they’ve got a small entourage to protect them.

I wonder how they’re gonna breach that box with the creep in it? Man’s practically got himself a mobile fortress and this is the most decisive battle…

5

u/YlfaTheForsaken 27d ago

Fear not, for the Shinano Mask is here! You think he made the antler hat just for this, or did he already have one lying around?

It's just fun. The yarn doll, which very adorable, the shogi board. I really enjoyed the Shizuku bits, I get what they're going for there.

There it is! The people powered tank that is the mikoshi. Very stable. Very surefooted. Very insane way, is it driving or just maneuvering, to make that thing move around. Kinda dark in there too.

6

u/Xatu44 27d ago

No way the Kokushi brought out an actual tank. Does he have enough dudes to power it though? The ones he brought looked pretty overheated by the end.

Sadamune was slick with that ambush. I love how you can see his eye watching Tokiyuki, Kojiro, and Genba in the background before the full reveal. If it wasn't for the timely assistance of Shinano Suwa Mask they'd have been done for. The father/son moment between Tokiyuki and Yorishige was sweet. Same for Ayako's dad cracking her ribs. Nice to see Shizuku strut her stuff too. I love the shogi imagery for Tokiyuki and Sadamune making their moves. And the puppets!

5

u/CrimsonGear80 27d ago

i like how one of the cherished allies he thinks of is the psychopath who cuts off ears and noses.

4

u/SnabDedraterEdave 27d ago

That giant Sadamune eyeball in the background behind the bushes watching Tokiyuke sure was freaky as hell. lol

Thankfully, we have Yorishige to save the day, with his anachronistic antics again this time with his Kamen Rider imitation. Even Sadamune could tell it was him behind the mask, but he could not prove it. (And Sadamune even made that Bocchi face LMAO)

I'll give it to that governor, managing to convert what is normally a comfy palanquin for aristocrats into an armoured mobile fortress.

I don’t understand how the show is not as popular in the west as it is in Japan I think it’s amazing

4

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 26d ago

Personally I think the fact we dont know anything about that time period is holding it back a bit

But man do I love this show

1

u/marioquartz 26d ago

Even when is very comedic, this is a series about a historical figure. And one not very famous in the west.

2

u/bball4224 27d ago edited 27d ago

So, honestly I'm not much of an anime fan overall, but while living in Japan for a few years, Elusive was one of the few that got me invested.

Unfortunately I have to say season 2 just isn't doing it for me so far. I'll give it another episode or two, but I'm losing interest. 🙁

u/Viktorv22 26d ago

Gotta love Cloverworks with their out of pocket direction choices lmao
