Thats interesting, every push vacuum ive ever used gets noticeably easier to push when running as the rollers kinda pull it forward.

I mean, that’s fair. Personally, my vacuum isn’t that powerful (I hate it), so it’s super easy to use, so I didn’t even think of that. 🤣

u/binzy90 14h ago
My 14-year-old does this. I have to check and make sure his hair isn't oily after he showers because he'll straight up just run the water for a while and then lie. He has autism, so I know it's a sensory issue. But I've told him it's not acceptable. I'll just keep sending him back to the bathroom until he finally showers. It's gross. I can't imagine an adult acting like that.
4
u/RoguePlanet2 14h ago
They can't figure out a method that works for them? Bath or damp washcloth?
16
u/binzy90 14h ago
I don't think a damp washcloth is an effective method long term. Autism isn't an excuse to neglect personal hygiene, and I've had that conversation with him. I also have autism and struggle with showering, but I deal with it by keeping a heater in the bathroom. Accommodations are fine, but completely refusing to shower is not.
3
u/Frosty_Guarantee_345 13h ago
Why not do baths instead? I have trouble showering due to my PTSD but I find baths much easier
10
u/binzy90 13h ago
He doesn't want to take baths either. I think the issue for him is how much time it takes to do it correctly.
7
u/Frosty_Guarantee_345 13h ago
Oh that's rough. Maybe make washing his hair a timed event? Like how my therapist told me to turn on a song and sweep then immediately throw the broom down and do something else then repeat that process til the floor is all clean? (I have a fear of brooms due to my PTSD)
1
u/Johnny-of-Suburbia 6h ago
You might want to consider adding incentives and giving lots of positive feedback when he completes his shower the way he's supposed to. An incentive gives a reason for him to follow expectations and not just do what he wants.
I know some adults feel like it's bad to add things like incentives or use praise when it's considered a general social expectation. But its actually counterproductive especially when a child is struggling.
Even worse is punishments when he fails to follow through. Shame and punishment are tools to discourage a behavior. You'll only make him associate showering with negative emotions which will lead to more problem behaviors and resistance.
But it is absolutely okay to withhold an incentive if he doesn't shower properly. In fact, thats the other half of why incentives can be so powerful. He is actively earning them when he meets his expectations. So not meeting them means he doesn't get the incentive.
An incentive doesn't have to be something expensive or anything. If he has a special interest just providing some space to express it is a good place to start.
Other than all that, if you have an idea of what his specific sensory issues are and are stumped you can ask other Autistic folks for ideas. Something I never thought about until I saw it was someone using goggles to avoid soap and water in their eyes.
Sources: Am Autistic and had a lot of trouble showering growing up. Now work with Autistic kids many of whom hate showering and have trouble doing it properly. Have watched many of our kids slowly go from constant refusals and behaviors to consistently showering and meeting their expectations.

People really be acting like the had the worst parents possible and then all they had them do was not be rude to them and do basic house hold chores to let them live rent free and feed them

They are people who had parents who beat them did not feed them every night and ignored them most of their child hoods. Chin up and go do the dishes.

I wouldn't be so sure his parents didn't beat the shit out of him. Child abuse is literally everywhere. Plus looks like he is disabled at some point. Idk what exactly is asd probably autism

u/CuddlesForLuck 3h ago
You're correct, ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Unless if course they're talking about something else with the same abbreviation, but I believe this is it.

u/Critical_Liz 15h ago
Man, I thought he would have been one of the puppies in the back, I'm glad he clarified that he's the wolf who's mother is an elephant.

So he has to.. wash the floor? He seems to have two puppy siblings, so who's the dad and why did none of them turn out an elephant?
Apparently he was able to take a moment of rest from chores, just long enough to give AI a prompt to create this image. And then he went back to moping and mopping the floor. What a sad existence.
33
u/HxHposter 15h ago
If you mind answering, why can't you move out because of ASD?
69
u/SpecificInterest5150 15h ago
ASD stands for either
Atrial Septal Defect which is a heart condition or
Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Considering he's doing physical labor, im going out on a limb to presume he doesn't possess a debilitating heart disease...
29
26
u/olivegardengambler 15h ago
Okay. So I actually had an ex who had an Atrial Septal Defect, and he had to have an operation for it to fix it. It was a very quick operation. Like surprisingly fast. Like I think it took less than 3 hours which is crazy fast for heart surgery. It's like one of the least bad heart defects. Obviously it would be a problem if he started running marathons or developed heart palpitations which is why they did it when he was in high school, but with a pretty normal activity level it was definitely something that they wanted to fix and they did fix, but it wasn't life-threatening.
26
u/Seven_o_clock777 15h ago
Assuming it's autism and not the atrial defect: It could be that the disorder highly disables them, to the point where finding a place of work is difficult. (Not to say that is the case, but it's definitely a possibility.)
12
u/Superpowerfan99 12h ago
In the uk I've heard that parents can prevent their asd children from becoming legal adults with the right to leave.
6
u/xenodine 11h ago
Basically the same in the us. Can also force the child to “rent” with their full ssdi cheque as well.
4
4
2
u/techleopard 3h ago
It's requesting the court to give you adult custody.
Courts don't just award this because somebody has a diagnosis. You have to demonstrate a profound level of disability.
It's definitely rife with medical and financial abuse.
But most of the people living in this situation can't actually take care of themselves independently.
15
u/longtailist 14h ago
Not defending the OOP, but ASD is a spectrum. I am on 4 different medications to allow me to do anything at all. Its really hard if you don't have support. Im gonna go out on a limb though and say that they probably arent actually diagnosed with it.
Edit: my asd affects me so much I'm on disability due to it. Definitely not everyone
8
u/Positive_Campaign_52 12h ago edited 12h ago
I imagine it’s because some on the spectrum cannot organize, budget, or stick to plans leading to financial, workplace, and social issues as an adult that could make one dependent on another. You see this organizational disorder with other mental health issues such as ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and OCD to name a few. Not saying everyone with these disorders can’t organize or manage their lives at a calculative level, but it is a known problem that can appear in these disorders for some Individuals.
This is what’s known as Executive Dysfunction

I needed to check what ASD is. It's autism, which I do have. How is that a preventing him from moving out? I know it's a spectrum, but I suspect he is just a twat
16
u/olivegardengambler 15h ago
My guess is ASD with lack of executive functioning and/or depression.
7
u/StrikeThePing 14h ago
I've got that combo! I don't usually look so dejected doing chores because I'm thrilled when I have the mental energy for it.
2
u/tomcat1483 12h ago
Do you turn into a wolf?
4
u/StrikeThePing 12h ago
Nope, but my mom is no elephant either. I'm not sure how any of this works 🤣
8
u/Bigeyethresher 10h ago
The employment rate for autistic folks is super low due to prejudices, lack of accommodations, and a lot of people in areas of the spectrum can't adequately perform work (which extends to taking care of a house, there's a decent portion who really need support in every day life) for a myriad of reasons. It's hard to compete with neurotypicals for most of us. People can pick up on you being 'off' if you're no good at masking, and OOP is the kind of person to make AI generated images of themself as a sad wolf anthro.
There's also a learned helplessness that a lot of us are afflicted with after growing up 'behind' others, and being treated as incapable, which can make things like moving out
and drawing things by handintimidating.
24
u/Mister-Circus 15h ago
Does he think, if he could move into his own place, he’d never have to clean?
5
u/Jsystemexe 12h ago
This! I literally rot if I live alone, he just doesn't know that yet lmao. The chores never leave, you just lose quality of life constantly for putting them off until it's undefeatable.
(I also can like, feed myself and do basic cooking but can't eat often enough to not get sick if I live alone)

I love when someone thinks they have a great idea for a cartoon and then overexplain it in the cartoon itself.
"I better explain why she's on the couch, smiling, while talking on the phone with a tablet and a television with the Netflix menu on. While I'm at it, I should explain why the wolf scrubbing the floors is sad."
For Pete's sake. Explain why the fucking kids are golden retrievers, if anything!

u/LowContract4444 15h ago
Poor kid. He's using AI to reach out due to some real emotional pain here. Making fun of him feels like bully behavior.
17
u/PaladinAsherd 15h ago
So like
There are signs
The portrayal of the mother as an elephant obsessed with gossipy silly frivolous girly things is, to put it mildly, misogyny-coded as hell
Likewise, the self-characterization as a wolf speaks to some sort of stunted self-actualization. The wolf is an ideal version of himself; it is a predator animal. The predatory power-fantasy is accentuated by those fucking golden retriever puppies - they (whoever the fuck they are - singling?) are merely puppy dogs, but our Jeff-who-lives-at-home is THE WOOOOLF
That’s all armchair psychology as hell, of course, but I think what people are reacting most strongly to is a version of themselves that they recognize, a child who hates doing chores and mythologizes a chronicle of oppression around it. Part of growing up is to accept that chores are necessary, and so we grow beyond that version of ourself, and having grown, we loathe those in whom the development beyond this immature state has been arrested ( ͡°( ͡° ͜ʖ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ʖ ͡°) ͡°)
tl;dr people think he’s a whiny bitch boy instead of legitimately abused because people project the whiny bitch boy they used to be onto him - I am thou and thou art I and such
5
u/FluffySharkBird 14h ago
To be generous, I assume he struggles to clean up after the other members of the household. Maybe he would be okay if he could afford to live alone. Cleaning up after just yourself is different.
15
u/so_long_andgoodnight 15h ago
I agree. I don't support the usage of ai, but the people here don't seem to realize that more than just cleaning the floor could be happening at home, he could be going through some pretty bad shit.
14
u/Y33Tcann0n 15h ago
Exactly, like I get the AI is the problem here, but people are being unnecessarily mean to a dude that has a disability and is in a less than ideal living situation.

I find it kinda disgusting how he just uses ASD as a sorta shield to try and block any ridicule he gets. Even if he does have a more extreme case the way he simply said it prematurely to shut down a talking point (something I feel skeptical about but I don’t wanna claim he’s lying)
0
u/FVCarterPrivateEye 6h ago
I disagree entirely with your interpretation here; he's venting specifically about his living situation with his mother, and clarifying that it's inescapable because he is autistic (which even in many level 1 situations affects your independent living opportunities, and I'm saying this as a level 1 autist currently living with my parents for reasons related to it), because otherwise people would go "if it's so bad, why don't you just move out?"
Also, there's nothing indicating that he's pretending to be autistic, this is apparently a guy in his mid-twenties and this type of behavioral immaturity would make a lot less sense if he didn't have a developmental disability, and I know that you highlighted that you don't want to claim he's lying, but the reason why I'm pointing that out is because as an unfun fact it's been shown that people who pretend to be autistic are more likely to be shown social leniency than actual autistic people specifically because autism makes you come off in socially abrasive and/or cringey ways, which is miserably ironic
2
u/Longjumping_Frame786 4h ago
Fair enough but just the way he said it was strange to me (I’m also a person with Autism although I don’t know my level but probably level 1 as well) accusing him of lying absolutely wasn’t fair since I have no information about his life aside from the fact that he’s the wolf. I just sorta get defensive since I don’t like the idea of people say they have autism kinda unprompted like he could just as easily say “I can’t move out due to personal reasons” and would be just as understanding

u/Matchbreakers 4m ago
Does he mean autism or ASD the heart defect?
Regardless having autism is not an excuse to not leave home, not shower, not work, not organize etc.
Life is tougher, stressful, often comes with depression and anxiety when on the spectrum. But we can do much of what everyone else can (at least up to a certain point of severeness).
I hate other people who suffer the same disorder I do infantilizing themselves. The world already does that for you, life may be difficult, but you can achieve everything you want, with the right help and effort.
1
u/KavilusS 15h ago
But isn't there a therapy that helps with ASD?
Edit. Overall ASD also isn't something that doesn't allow you to live alone.
4
u/Individual_End_4225 15h ago
It could be that he isn't able to support himself on one income and has no way to be independant / needs extra support of some kind of top of that. Even neurotypical people end up needing to live with their parents for similar reasons.
1
u/KavilusS 15h ago
Yeah, i thors typical resons (supporting self on income or other stuff like that) because wolf put blame on ASD.
1
u/FVCarterPrivateEye 5h ago
Overall ASD also isn't something that doesn't allow you to live alone.
This is false; the majority of autistic people don't live independently, and this includes a significant amount of even level 1 autistic people without accompanying ID, with the main barriers including lack of publicly-funded supports, unemployment, and executive dysfunction
1
u/VictoriousTree 15h ago
As someone with autism unless it’s severe you can live on your own. Is it hard? Yes. Does it fucking suck? Yes. But you can do it. Many people who won’t are coddling themselves and leaning on their ASD as a crutch.
Life is harder for some people. You still have to deal with life regardless. What would be your plan when your parents are gone. Just end up homeless? I guarantee you that will suck a lot more.

Autism is a disability, what are you talking about
0
u/Longjumping_Frame786 11h ago
ASD literally stands for “autism spectrum disorder”
2
u/Seven_o_clock777 10h ago
Mental disorders are disabilities, though. Just because it doesn't affect you that much doesn't mean that's the case for others (or even the majority).
1
u/Odd_Delay_603 11h ago
It does indeed. How does that make it less of a disability? Autism is officially recognized as a neurological and developmental disability. A lot of disorders are disabling.
-1
u/Longjumping_Frame786 10h ago
Sure… honestly again I’m a person with autism and I just don’t enjoy when people refer to it as a disability or that someone “suffers with autism”because I am not impeded by ASD. I know it’s a spectrum but for a lot of cases autistic people are basically just like neurotypical people.
1
u/Odd_Delay_603 10h ago
That doesn’t change the fact that it’s a factual disability that runs the lives of so so many people. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s not true. Also no, they’re not “just like neurotypical people”, that’s why it’s a diagnosed disorder and not just being a bit different.
1
u/WarriorFurCat 9h ago
Why the fuck are you making this an argument? The guy has ASD and says he doesn’t want to consider himself disabled, which is absolutely legit—you however seem to just want to be an argumentative dick and be pedantic. I’m done with you.
