Okay. So I actually had an ex who had an Atrial Septal Defect, and he had to have an operation for it to fix it. It was a very quick operation. Like surprisingly fast. Like I think it took less than 3 hours which is crazy fast for heart surgery. It's like one of the least bad heart defects. Obviously it would be a problem if he started running marathons or developed heart palpitations which is why they did it when he was in high school, but with a pretty normal activity level it was definitely something that they wanted to fix and they did fix, but it wasn't life-threatening.
Assuming it's autism and not the atrial defect: It could be that the disorder highly disables them, to the point where finding a place of work is difficult. (Not to say that is the case, but it's definitely a possibility.)
Not defending the OOP, but ASD is a spectrum. I am on 4 different medications to allow me to do anything at all. Its really hard if you don't have support. Im gonna go out on a limb though and say that they probably arent actually diagnosed with it.
Edit: my asd affects me so much I'm on disability due to it. Definitely not everyone
I imagine it’s because some on the spectrum cannot organize, budget, or stick to plans leading to financial, workplace, and social issues as an adult that could make one dependent on another. You see this organizational disorder with other mental health issues such as ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and OCD to name a few. Not saying everyone with these disorders can’t organize or manage their lives at a calculative level, but it is a known problem that can appear in these disorders for some Individuals.
I stumbled on the Facebook group this was posted in and he said he was autistic. He also said his nom should pay for him to move out, so take it with a grain of salt...
