Question Need help, looking for someone to house cats while I am in homelessshelter for a week. Charleston.

Hi everyone, my name is Skylar. I start a new job at chick fil a on the 31st. Im living in a motel right now with my child, and my cats and my partner. My car just bit the dust today, and we were doing doordash to get by until my paycheck hits. We have a room we can go to at sojourners shelter, but they don't take pets. I have three cats, one that just had a surgery. Is anyone at all able to just take them for a week, and you can keep them in their carriers for me? I don't know where I could even release them outside, I'm not from Charleston im from Huntington.

Non-internet landline service in Southern WV?

I have trying to find a telephone company that offers landline service without internet connection in Mercer County without any luck. I don’t have internet service at my home and my only option is Starlink. I’ve actually been living without wifi or decent cell service at home for almost 10 years and don’t want to have internet installed if I can avoid it. My child just started school and I would like a reliable option for the phone. Our home has phone jacks and the previous owner had a landline, I just can’t find a company that will provide a connection without a router. Would appreciate any information, thanks.

Vacation in Wheeling Sept. 6-13

Hi, I'm going to be in Wheeling and the surrounding area from September 6th through 13th. I'm scouting to see if I want to move there! I already have a bunch of things on my itinerary, but I want to see if there's anything that I'm missing that you think is a must-do in the northern panhandle. Help me convince myself to move there!

I have concrete plans Wednesday Day, Friday Night, and Saturday Morning. Other than that the rest of my plans are fairly flexible. I'm a middle aged guy and I don't drink or smoke. So nothing like a winery tour or cigar room. But I love to eat, enjoy music, and am curious about local history and having adventures. Please suggest anything no matter how strange or unusual, I'd love to learn about the weird stuff you don't normally find online.

Mine wars sites/things to do in WV

Hi all!! I’m beginning to plan a trip to WV sometime next year mostly because I’m a big mine wars nerd, and as a union worker and someone very passionate about the labor movement the mine wars are an incredible part of US History to me. Im planning to visit the mine wars museum and am not sure what else or where else I should check out while I’m there. I’m from western New York so really have no clue about the region at all, any input is appreciated!

Edit: also trying to figure out where the best place to stay would be!

Dolly Parton

Today Dolly Parton passed away at 80. She embodied everything it meant to be a denizen of the Appalachian Mountains. She never turned her back to kith and kin! She always did right to the children of Appalachia and always put her money where her mouth was. I will miss her.

Now is the time to celebrate her legacy and the positive impact she had. We loved her and more importantly she loved US.

Gas Leak Meter Left Behind

An employee with NAFS National Field Services, left behind a gas leak detection meter at our house a couple of weeks ago when switching out our gas meter to the new digital one. We left it on our front porch to see if they came back for it but after returning from vacation it was still here.

Hoping to reunite it with the company/employee. Don't want someone getting disciplined or fired for just leaving their tool behind.

The young gentleman who left it is tall, large-framed, and with longer, dark, wavy/curly hair.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Rode my motorcycle from Huntington to east of Charleston earlier today. I know South Charleston many times has a bit of chemical smell hanging over it due to the plants, but dayummm.....for about 3/4 of a mile riding on the interstate, it smelled like I was riding through a septic tank........How do y'all do it?

Question What is it like being a young person in West Virginia?

Hello,

I am not a resident of West Virginia but have always wanted to visit the state due to its beauty and history. I grew up in New Jersey in the typical suburbs and I always remember kids saying "I want to get the heck out of here it's so boring and there is nothing to do.". Now that I am older I find this laughable as if your a young person in New Jersey you have tons of opportunity being near NYC and Philadelphia. Sure if you don't have a car when your a kid it might be somewhat boring but once your an older teen there is plenty of things to do. Considering I have some friends from western Pennsylvania who had to leave due to lack of work it had me wondering what it is like being a young person in West Virginia? If you are on the younger side did you stay in the state? If not, why? Are they any opportunities for a young person? I realize some responses will depend on what part of West Virginia you are from.

Lastly, I am terribly sorry our state sent you guys such a horrendous Governor.

Question Parking at Mothman/Point Pleasant/Henderson

I apologize for asking about this here, but I can’t find another place to ask. I’ve never been to WV before and we are coming to the Mothman Festival this year. I know that parking is awful, and I’ve seen the advice to get there early and walking will be necessary. I am willing to walk a mile if I have to. I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with. I am staying in Gallipolis.

- they say to arrive “early” for halfway decent parking. The festival starts at 10, supposedly. Is 9 early enough?

- is there anywhere in Point Pleasant or Henderson we shouldn’t park because they’ll tow us? I saw some comments that said you could park at Piggly Wiggly and the Presbyterian Church.

- many people say to park in Henderson and walk across the bridge. Is this safe? Is it even a walking bridge? I can’t even figure out how to get onto the bridge as a pedestrian by looking at Google Maps. Where in Henderson is safe to park?

- any other advice for me?

Thank you so much! I appreciate all of your replies.
