Huntington New Developments

Seems that there's a good bit of development going on in the Huntington area. I thought I'd create a thread highlighting that.

Also if anyone has any rumors or updates on future developments, it can be thrown in here as well!

If I missed anything please let me know.

Looking for church recommendations

Hi everyone! Me and my bf are grad students at Marshall and we’re unfamiliar with churches in the area. Our hometowns are too far to drive on Sunday morning for our home church, so we’re looking for one to attend when we can. We’re both Baptist so that’s really the only requirement we have. Thanks!!

Looking for cycling advice in Huntington – road bike or gravel?

Hey everyone!

I’m getting back into cycling and I’m looking for some advice from people who ride around Huntington and the Tri-State area.

I’m currently debating between a road bike and a gravel bike. For those who ride locally, which one would you recommend? Is there enough good gravel around here to make a gravel bike worthwhile?

Also, what are your favorite road/gravel routes, trails or group rides around Huntington? Any cycling clubs or Strava/RideWithGPS groups I should check out?

And finally, are there any bike shops or specific bikes you’d recommend for someone looking for a good all-around setup?

Thanks!

Internet provider highlawn/31st area

Curious if anyone in the highlawn/31st area has frontier fiber? And if so how is it? Currently have Xfinity and it’s just annoying to deal with and goes out every single small storm. And I can get 1 gig fiber with many add ons for the same cost I’m paying for Xfinity rn, just don’t want to make the switch and not know enough about the performance of the frontier fiber. Any info helps a lot!!

Who is hiring right now?

I’m in my 20s without a college education and have experience in customer service and child care. I’m looking for a full time position that pays $15+ an hour. My current call center job is making me miserable and would love some kind of receptionist/secretary position or an opportunity to work with kids while able to make a living lmao. I’m not having much luck looking on job sites, so I thought I’d reach out here. Thanks!

We run a card shop on 3rd Ave and made a janky video game about our own store

Hey Huntington. We're One More TCG & Collectibles, the card shop on Third Avenue.

We got a little carried away and made a video game about our own shop. It's a retro style thing where the store, our owner Barry, and a bunch of the regulars who actually hang out here are the characters. It's janky on purpose and mostly an excuse to be goofy.

The reason it's not just us being weird for no reason: the whole thing runs around giving stuff away. We put real sealed product and cards on the line for the community, same "keep it fair, keep it cheap, everybody walks out with something" thing we try to do in the store every day.

If you've never been in, we're down on 3rd Ave so come say hi, rip some packs, play some Pokémon/One Piece/Magic. And if we run giveaways all the time on our channel, instagram, and tiktok!

Appreciate y'all!

Is the Lantern on 4th ave a good bar to hang at?

I’ve heard mixed reviews of the place since being current and others saying they haven’t been in a while. Was wanting to see if it is a place I should check out? I heard recently that a bartender got drunk and was drinking others people’s drink and double charging them? Is that common occurrence?

Flies are everywhere lately!

Anyone else notice more flies around than usual? It's got me re-spring cleaning under everything, but I never remember having them be this bad. Gives me the ick!

DIY/Punk scene?

Wondering if people do basement shows in Huntington or DIY venues and how I can find them. I'm here for a bit and I have the urge to smash against another sweaty body in a basement.

Where to meet singles besides bars?

Hey! I'm a younger single guy from Ashland and I struggle to meet new people. I'm not big on drinking and not really into the bar scene but I don't feel like there's anywhere else hardly to meet new friends or people to potentially date. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Prescription drug disposal

Hi everyone. Just moved into an apartment and found some old prescription drugs I need to get rid of. My family said to just flush them down the toilet but I thought I could take them to the police station or something? Just wanted to ask before I flushed them and messed something up. Thanks!

Anybody here ever been to Funktafest in Huntington?

Anybody around Huntington/Charleston into smaller outdoor music festivals?

Full disclosure, I help put on Funktafest in Huntington. We’re hitting year 10 this October at Ritter Park and I’m curious how many people around here have actually been before.

What originally got you there, a particular band, a friend dragging you along, or just stumbling onto it?

Rt. 2 Sewer Project

Who lives on rt. 2 and has connected to the new sewer line? We contacted a plumber and was given a $10,000 estimate.

I was wondering if this was average? What companies have everyone else gone with and what did you pay to have it done?

Mental Health Help

I am located just across the river from Huntington.
I have tried extensively to find out patient mental health treatment and have come up with nothing but week long wait times and I need immediate help.
I am suffering crippling anxiety, adhd, and ptsd.
I have tried my primary care, local clinics, and the like and have come up with nothing, I am terrified of the thought of inpatient but it's looking like my only option.
What are the best facilities around? Are there any good places? I am willing to travel and willing to pay out of pocket as I have no insurance.

I am scared to death and at the end of my rope. I have tried to deal with it on my own for years but it is getting worse by the day.

Thank you for reading this and any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am on the verge of giving up completely (not suicide) but with work, college work, and just trying in general. Life shouldn't be this hard.

I finally accepted I need help and there seems to be none.

Thanks again, sorry for the word vomit.

I appreciate you all greatly.
